I used silicone spray from (liquid wrench) is that ok?
on my mums car the electric window on the drivers side was Dominic as you drive along the window would keep going up and down an till the motor overheated then after that i worked fine
Scotty Kilmer
HEEEELP S.O.S Show me how quick fix hack hide the clearcoating on the paint that lets loose!!!
Scotty, you're the man!
Scotty Kilmer common sense! That's the most important one on the list Scotty!
My mechanic was trying to charge me $200 to replace the whole run channel when all I needed was lubricant. Went to auto zone and grabbed the same one used in the vide. This man just saved my wallet. Thank you
same here.
Thats sad. Reason i youtube and research how to do things myself now
Scotty Kilmer is THE BEST !
I was told it cost $80 why was yours so much
Wow!
Finally a mechanic that's not trying to rip us off!
scotty kilmer's videos are wholesome af
That’s cuz he’s a RETIRED mechanic!!!😂
When I first saw scotty kilmer videos, I thought loud and obnoxious, he has become one of my favorites to watch and as simple as some of his stuff can be, I think it's the kind of stuff at times we let go. Scotty is AOK in my book..... Go Scotty!!!!
C Hansen I
Thank you for this video, Scotty. Mechanic wanted to charge me $519 if the issue was the regulator and $660 for the motor. I paid $8 for the silicone and my window isn’t struggling anymore. Thank you! Thank you! Hubby and I love your videos and sound car advice!
This guy is the best. I gained more auto knowledge by switching to Scotty Kilmer.
What old timers learned from their Dad's which young folks don't learn any longer is that moving bits must be lubricated in order to prevent wear, or eventual lack of operation.
From the old timers history log ....
If it moves, lube it ..... if its stationary (and exposed), paint it (coat it)... finally, always clean it...
My driver's side and passenger side windows were very slow to go up and down, and lots of times would get stuck halfway (not fun in the winter). Scotty just saved me a lot of money as I was going to take my vehicle in to get the windows fixed. I can not believe how much the silicon trick helped. Thank you, Scotty! At a minimum, I owe you a coffee.
Bruhhh i just did this and it worked like a treat! Needed a fair amount of spray and plenty of up and down with the windows. But Scotty, you are a G for this.
Thank you for this. I bought a car at auction that had this exact issue and a 6 dollar bottle of wd40 silicone fixed it. You rock
Glad to hear it, Thanks for the support!
WD40 isn't silicone.
It is if you buy the silicone version... that's a thing.
Reed Criswell
I didn't know WD40 brand sold cans of silicone. I've been buying gallons of WD40 penatrant to loosen rusty fasteners for decades. It evaporates in short order, so I doubt it would help sticky windows for more than a week or so.
Same with using WD40 to shine oxidized headlamps. After it evaporates, they become dull again.
@@scottykilmer is it a replacement for K Y. Oh Ya I'm a smartass.
A freaking wealth of knowledge this channel is! Glad I found this exact video cuz recently my windows have been rolling up and down super slow.
Thanks Scott, been having trouble with my drivers
side window for years especially in the winter I didn't
know what to do,I bought this stuff yesterday now my
windows run smooth as silk!
Thanks Scotty! Just used it today after noticing my power window on the drivers side slowing down. Now it's like it's brand new. Keep doing what you doing, it really helps out.
Thanks Scotty. Your knowledgeable auto DIY repair videos hae wore me out working on my own car, that has saved me thousands in repairs from a certified mechanic that wanted to replace my rubber bushings for $200 a bushing, when it was the wind chill factor. One time a mechanic PRETENDED to put oil in my car and stuck the money in his own pocket and my engine burned up it was out of oil. Thanks for you honesty Scotty and sharing your knowledge with your, youtube audience.
You better have sued him
Scotty, I got some yesterday. Window is all better. Thank you!
Justine Virtue what does gettin' some have to do with your window and why are you telling Scotty? The man's probably busy chopping lines with windshield wipers and muffler blasting product off a couple quadruple "D" airbags and her sister in the back seat of a stolen Corrola... trust me bro, we gotta step up our game if we're ever gonna PartyScottyHeterosomati with some big titty hotties, right?
This is pure genius!! I just did this with my 03 Chevy Tahoe z71 and it's like the window motor is new again. Scotty you're a genius my dude. Keep the great content coming.
This is solid gold - both the info and the delivery - I love the 'look away' style. Brilliant!!!
Wow i went out to Walmart and bought some and used it on my 2011 Chevrolet traverse and now it works a lot better than before! Thanks scotty!!!
trevor philips what was your Traverse doing? I have a 2012 and the passenger side seems to not work at times. I need to go down then up to get it going, Not sure if it’s the switch or if this would help.
Thanks for the video Scotty. I had an electric window that would get stuck and even try and jump out of the tracks. After watching your video, i went and got some silicone spray. Worked magnificently. I thought i was going to be up for a few hundred dollars. Thanks again Scotty. Love your videos mate
I rather watch Scotty's videos than TV. 1. More entertaining than TV. 2. Practical 3. Unpredictable (ties in with entertaining on a higher level).
I've been doing this for ages, without even realizing that I was helping the windows. Lol. I use silicone lube to treat rubber around the car (including window rubber) to prevent dry rot and keep the rubber pliable. Killing two birds, with one stone! I like it. Great tip Scotty. It explains why I have never really had a problem with my power windows. Those motors are quite expensive, yes.
Interesting, but why not simply use a car detail lotion, like Maguires Gold Class Trim Detailer? They're made for the task.
@@ecurb10 because there's a price difference
why so many thumbs down..somwbody wants to give some advice and share his findings.. so respect him a bit ..if you dont get lost
Some people are dicks.
Here’s why at first there was nothing wrong with the window to begin with he was just playing with the switch.
Could be Ford haters that are mad because of the intro.
@@georgerebreev He may have been playing with switch for effect, sure. But he is right. My power windows were sticking similar to what he showed. After awhile the window motor blew. $85 for a new motor, and about 2 1/2 hours tearing the door apart, replacing the motor, and reassembly. This stuff actually happens. So what's better? Waiting for mechanical failure, or a touch of inexpensive preventive maintenance?
@@georgerebreev he was giving an example? Lol
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Excellent, inexpensive advice that considerably eases the strain on the whole power window mechanism.
Thanks to this video, I did it myself. I went to auto zone in poinciana Florida and they even doubted me. I’m realizing that some things in life , you have to figure it out on your own. Thanks to this guy , my driver window is not as sticky anymore . God bless. 👍🏿 I probably saved myself $200-$300 too. Have a nice day and be better than yesterday. Thanks for reading .
My mechanic said it would be over $400 for just the drivers window if they could find the part for my 22 yr old car. I came home and searched your videos and this fixed my problem for under $3. Wanted to say THANKS and since I have found your videos you have saved me over $1000 so far.
Wow!!! This silicone trick was awsome. My Windows work perfect now😁👍 thanks Scotty
Finally remembered to pick some up at Wal-Mart. I think the can was about $5.59 or so. I'll update after I use it.
Update: Worked great. My driver door window had been slow for a year. Works so much better now.
Thanks Scotty, I went out and brought some this stuff and it made my windows glide so smooth. It also had other uses around the home .. thanks for sharing..
scotty, the silicone spray trick really worked. our cars were always freezing up north here. i used it on the windows and door seals and worked great. thnx, steve.
Great vid, Scotty! I can verify through personal experience this DOES work - even if your motors are weak/failing, it might just prolong them. I use silicone spray on my 28-year-old Buick and it works every time!
And, when it comes to GM cars, sometimes it's just easier to change the whole door out with a working junkyard door than it is to replace the motors when they finally burn out. Took me a little over an hour to change two doors on an S-10 Blazer where both window motors failed, as opposed to several hours disassembling each door and messing with the mechanisms!
yikes!
Love his enthusiasm. Best UA-cam tech by far
Perfect timing. I ordered a window motor assembly this morning to fix my window that was sticking. A little later the company I ordered from sent me a message that the part was out of stock. I could order a different brand or cancel. I found this video and just tried it... needless to say, I just canceled the part. Thanks! Saved me about a hundred dollars.
I love how he says some things "Not only will they make the windows smoother, they'll make the motors work less stronger!"
Great tips! You are so fun to watch, I just watch because I want to. With all the stuff I'm learning, I'll hopefully prevent needing to watch you, or other UA-cam vids because of all the preventative maintenance I've been doing trying out all these great tips. Thanks
thanks a lot man. This worked Wonders on my 2008 Toyota Yaris, the driver's side window keeps sticking. I thought it was the motor was going out did the same thing you demonstrated few minutes later it was working like a charm. I am definitely going to keep up with my windows from now on. Thanks!
I usually don’t pay attention to much the stuff I see on youtube but I did this to my car
I have a 1990 Honda Accord and it worked
my passenger side window was squeaking and not closing right and did this and it works perfect took away the squeak and now the window works perfect
Good Channel and good advice thanks man
Hey Scotty, Im a big fan, love what you do. I saw your video today & boy did it help me out. I thought my driver widow moter was going bad, after following you video & doing it my widow is sooo much smoother!!! Thanks Scotty

Your a legend Scotty 👍
this video is exactly what i needed
Now Scotty - you never left the TWILIGHT ZONE!!! You & I is “twilighters forever”! Love ya so much for the blessing you’ve been in my life through all your videos!
Thank you! My old Honda windows were so bad they were pulling the door panel in with them, now they're great!
hey Scotty your the best.thanks for all your advise.God bless you.
Will this work on my Windows 7 ?
As many as you like. I did Windows 8
FordFalconAu
Did it power up smooth ?
No, it's only compatible with 2000,XP, and Vista.
Try pouring ATF into the usb port
Nah, works best with Linux Mint, tastes nice too
I followed Scotty K. video instructions on mine and im so proud. Thx Kilmer.
THANK YOU for the door slamming trick when power window gets stuck. With the slam and then spraying with silicone, you save me a bill at the car shop where they would have charged me for a new motor. Thanks again.
well played, keep up the great work Mr K
If you own a BMW, this is a must because even after 30 years, BMW still can't seem to figure out how to make power windows work well, and the motors are notoriously weak... so do this as often as needed.
Temptation Christmas Silent Night
That is why BMW stands for Break My Windows.
LazyEyeCrazyI my 91 e30 works just fine after 26years
will this make my windows dirty whenever i roll them down and back up? you know like will they be like greasy?
LazyEyeCrazyI I must concur with you, my esteemed colleague. Ford and BMW must use the same brushes or windings in their motors because before I started typing this, I pressed my window up toggle, made a sandwich and now here I am. Another 40 seconds or so and it'll be mere centimeters from its apex. While I'm waiting, I will note that BMW has the best paint aside from Ferrari. Their Red is close to comparable to that of Ferrari in my opinion. Although, I haven't cared much for the color codes in the past few years. I'm not trying to be a dick when I say this, but they started using womens mascara colors to attract more female buyers which I understand, but they could definitely throw in a deep orange or burgundy, or even cubed blue like Cadillac did... that paint was gorgeous I have to admit and I'm a ford guy... Ford paint is by far the worst. A month old garage kept vehicle shouldn't feel like a junkyard undercarriage, ever! And my window along with my time is up...
Thanks Scotty. Recently acquired an Audi A4 (for free!) and it had this problem with windows getting stuck on 3 out of 4 windows. I bought a $4 bottle of silicone grease and now all 4 windows work great. Thanks 👍
Hey Scotty I have been doing mechanic work for a very long time and I didn't know that you can move the windows I guess that goes to show you no matter how many years you've been in automotive you always learning something new great video
The best car guy on UA-cam.
I 2nd that!
This is the best channel I have found for useful tips. I have followed many of them and now all is better in my world, well at least in the car world. Now if you could just explain women to me I would be even more grateful. Hope that will be your next video.Your like my cool uncle.
Thanks for the support!
Thank you for this video, had sticking pw on my 96 Buick RMW; your advice solved that. Windows are working like new. Once again thank you very much Scotty,
Finally fixed my 85 c10 from burning out window motors! You’re a hero sir!
I grease and white lithium silicone spray the rollers, pivot points, and hings on the actual window riser frame and use the grease on the gears (the spiked teeth). Helps AMAZINGLY on ANY car older then 5 years of age. Also make sure your felt strips that are on both sides of the window, one inside the door and one on the outside. They wear out sometimes or have tears that cause slow or even completely stopped windows.
To Man Asking About Preventing Fogging On Windows: To prevent fogging on the windows, use RAIN-X ANTI-FOG. It lasts a very long time and you only need to re-apply a coat on the inner window every year or so.
I use Barbasol shaving cream...much cheaper than rainx and also does an awesome job on the bathroom mirror and it only takes a little bit. Try it!
Jeffrey McDavitt good tip jeff,You are obviously a mechanic, also .thank you for the input
scotty is AWSOME. love how he sprays that shit everywhere..Thanks scotty.
I sprayed the silicone spray all over my car !!!
On the driver's side window,
on my front winshield,
on my radiator,
in my gas tank...
On Everything !
Never had power anything in my old work trucks back in the US. The idea was to keep things simple for easy repairs. Just purchased my first project vehicle here in the Philippines and yes, it has power windows and yes they stick. ACE hardware tomorrow AM for silicone spray. Thank you bigtime Scotty K.
I wish Scotty could be my mechanic. But since he cant, I watch his videos and I always learn something. Thank GOD for Scotty Kilmer!

Fly spray works too
HiddenTreasureHunter I JUST mentioned this too, lol!
I want to make scotty's intro segment my morning alarm clock
I just bought some silicone spray for £4 and used it as you showed. Wow that works really well, what difference. Thanks!
I recently came across Scotty Kilmer videos and tried this on my 1994 Toyota SR/5 pickup. I thought the electric motors were going bad on the power windows. This solved the problem and they work like new.
in case it hasn't been mentioned, use tyre shine spray if you already have it rather than buying expensive silicone spray. Tyre shine is silicone based, and fixed my binding window track, which was causing the window to stop as the overload switch was tripping due to rapid heat build up..
i used silicone dashboard shine spray and it worked too spray plenty of it and bonus thing is my car smells great since thn
Ahhh I just remembered I have some tire shine. Thank you for making me remember I don’t have to buy anything new now
I love waiting to see the intro and outros, hahahahaha
did this on my 2013 honda accord cause my window's were stopping about halfway up. I thought it was my motor going bad but this fixed them!! thanks scotty!
Did this this last week. Works perfectly. Thanks!
Can i use this lubricant with my wife ?
+Korsion a-oh
sure. as long as you wipe it away before it dries.
only if you have trouble getting her lubed up with her own natural lube lol
+Korsion Yes. Sillicone is perfectly safe on human skin.
+Korsion sure! I use it with her ;) j/k

This worked on my Matrix! I thought the motor was dying but no, all it needed was this! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this. It fixed my window and was a huge relief. I will definitely do this from now on.
Hi Scotty! Thanks for all your great videos! With regard to using the silicon lubricant on the windows is there any concern if the windows have a tinted film applied? If not, I'm hoping this will take care of the fact that my power windows have decreased in speed. Thanks again!
Did u ever find an answer?
@@cimism610 whats cheaper, the silicon or the motor?
Silicone lube spray is also good to keep windows from freezing shut.
+66gt40lm yep, lube helps to keep windows from sealing, and vaseline helps so the door seals wont stuck together, I do this every year and never had issues, well, only when the whole car got covered in ice but that's a different story
draconpost actually silicone is good on both overtime you'll see the issues with using things that seem to be fine. Petrol based can dry out and cause parts to become brittle or tear. I use rain x on my windows then drop them down and do the tops that normally are covered by the seal. That way you don't get felt/rubber stuck to the edges if your windows are usually closed, kept outside etc.. That also helps keep them from being frozen in the winters.
Can it be useful in reducing noise while operating power windows
Kartik Jain Yes smoother is easier on the motor with a consistent easier effort vs catching or drag as it is running. So it tens to be quieter and smoother.
the trick of slamming the back door while holding the switch down that is on the driver's door worked for me. THANK YOU! Now if I can only get the other window back *up* !
WAY, way, way better than taking the door apart to replace parts that just needed this silicone spray!! Thank you!!
your videos are perfect without making all that noise .

THANK YOU Scotty! The drivers side window on my Chevy truck was soo slow that I had to help it up with my hand. I tried this and it's very fast and smooth now! The only down side? I used all of my silicone spray and now I have to do the rest of my cars! Lol. Thumbs up!
Will this work on Vista?
No lol.

I've been watching for a while
Dell0304 Him and Chrisfix and ETCG are great!
It is so hilarious how reckless he is with the spray. Getting it on the car interior. lmfao
Really? So many people whining about the most trivial things. Every see how cars are treated at the dealer? When I got a new car I got a free oil change. I did the second one and when I drained the oil, I got double the capacity of the crankcase in my drain pan. Go figure. I'd rather have a little bit of spray residue.
Should have emptied your drain pan first
+Zack Zander Yeah, I never trust those guys. Only went to the dealer for recall work. Otherwise, I have a very honest mechanic work on my car. Sadly, it's getting harder and harder to find decent mechanics :(

Hi Scotty, thanks for the vid. I tried it on my car and my problem window is now working so much better. I wiped away the excess as best I could including anything that streaked my window as as I tested it up and down. I hope it doesn't eat away my window tint!
Came for some information left with a smile and hoping I encounter this guy's videos again, what a massive LEG END!
The BEST stuff to use is Shin-Etsu silicone grease. Honda contracted Shin-Etsu to make a specific grease for window tracks and rubber seals. It even has a Honda part number lol. Look up "Honda 08798-9013" and buy it. You wont be disappointed.
*****
No it wont hurt. The Shin-Etsu grease I use from honda is designed for all rubber window tracks. Stuff works great it reconditions the rubber.
Works great on sun roofs also.
garretts91 Thanks for the option! Ill cost shop this perhaps!
Another good silicon grease you can get at NAPA, it'll probably be less expensive than Honda grease. It's called Sil-Glyde or Sil-Glide.
garretts91 and how much does it cost wd silicone spray is about 8bucks here in Australia
I have found that silicone accelerates dry rot on rubber....not a fix for window trim..
Another completely false comment. Come on people. Before you try to prove him wrong just google what your going to say
Scotty--Love your vids! My son had a sticking truck window so we just tried this and it worked!!! Love your channel and thanks for the tips.
Thanks Scotty I recently tried this an wanna say thank u for the tip it’s been working a lot smoother
WD-40 fixes everything.
+Peter Griffin NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO only use sillicone lubricant, not regular WD-40. WD-40 RUINS the rubber and makes the operation even stiffer in the end.
+Peter Griffin = I spray it into the car's door lock cylinders (and truck lock cylinder) every couple of years, to keep things working smoothly.
To bad it can't fix my wife 😂😂😒
Wd-40 Rocks !
Hi I used the normal wd-40 will this cause any major issues or shall I just buy the silicone one instead
G35 drivers know these window problems all too well
sillymoons oo yup. Just replaced the driver wibdow motor today smh.. now needs a new switch as it wont go up if i out the window all the way down.
Thank you, my window side has not worked for months, I tried this and wow the window rolled down, and I was doing the happy dance!!
my drives windows was going slower and slower, pretty much figured i was going to have to replace the motor....saw this video the other day, used the same spray he did, and my window is flying up and down. completely fixed it and saved me from buying a part i didn't need. Thanls Scotty!
Ya just dont use Justice Brother 80 (JB80) for this job - I had someone use it for that on their old Pontiac grand am windows. It is 10 years later and still smell like JB80.
can never get rid of that smell... it gave me a swore throat using it on my car
Does that also help in the winter when it freezes? I spray the door gaskets and locks every fall so they don't freeze, but I wonder if spraying the windows like that could help?
That is why he uses silicon lubricant, it resist low and high temperatures without doing a gum.

Good advice and hope you help more people with your videos
Gotta say Scotty you saved me with this one, back passenger window would not roll down on my Infiniti G37x Thought to myself u might have a video about the issue and you did. Went and bought the silicone, sprayed the cracks and let it sit for sometime and the window rolled down!
