"Immigrant Song" was written during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavík, Iceland, which inspired Plant to write the lyrics. He explained in an interview: "We weren't being pompous ... We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different." Six days after Led Zeppelin's appearance in Reykjavik, the band performed the song for the first time in concert during the Bath Festival. A story goes that they actually wrote/baselined it actually on the plane on their way over to the next gig - who knows. But he hadn't played this song live for 28 years until a few years ago up here in Iceland at a festival as a tribute per-se.
If this is your first Led Zeppelin reaction. You have opened a doorway into music heaven. It is worth a huge deep dive, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, Kashmir, Dazed and Confused, Stairway to Heaven. Etc….

when you have 4 of the greatest of all times in a band, you’re bound for greatness. Jones makes everyone’s top ten of best bassist, Page is always in top 3 guitarist, “Bonzo” Bonham is always in the top 1and 2 at drums and plant always cracks the top 5.
Getting into Zeppelin now! ROCK GODS!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!! Of COURSE Led Zeppelin beat they ass!!! "They come from the land of the ice and snow..." PLEASE react to "KASHMIR" you will love it.
The live footage is from their 1972 tour here in Australia, (the concert at the S.C.G. Sydney Cricket Ground). They also played here in Melbourne at the Kooyong Tennis Centre.
Good stuff! The performance you were watching was done in the Oakland Coliseum, California. And, yes, John "Bonzo" Bonham was simply incredible. Bonzo is generally ranked #1 on most "All-Time Greatest Rock Drummers" lists, and he was ahead of his time in how he played the drums, as well. A self-taught drummer since age 5, Bonzo and Robert Plant were once in NYC and stopped by a place that was frequented by MAJOR talented rock musicians who used to jam there. One time Bonzo was wailing on the drums at the same NYC joint jamming with some guys, and none other than Jimi Hendrix was amazed by Bonzo's playing, so he introduced himself by telling Bonzo, "You know what? You got a foot like a rabbit" in reference to Bonzo's famous kick-drum work. Gotta remember that Hendrix met Bonzo at the NYC joint in 1968, before Zeppelin had put out their first album (1969), so Hendrix really didn't know who Bonzo, Plant or Led Zeppelin was, but the greatest rock guitarist ever (Hendrix) recognized greatness when he saw Bonzo doing his thing. Here is the link to the only time Hendrix and Bonzo met, as Hendrix unfortunately died in 1970. www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/jimi-hendrix-offered-led-zeppelins-john-bonham-feedback-drumming.html/

That Dude is still a Rock Star!!!!! This is a deep rabbit hole you just entered! Since you checked out Black Dog You should watch Robert Plant (lead singer) and Alison Krauss sing it on Crossroads!! So different, but awesome! Led Zeppelin is what dreams are made of!. They set the tone for all things music! Thank you for this!
This song was written about conquering Vikings. His vocals are mimicking the Norse mythology of the war holler. The driving drums are mimicking the drive of the Vikings in battle , especially the berserkers .
Those are Rock Gods! Robert Plant has such a clean voice this open air recording doesn't need a lot of cleaning up. I believe they are at a college campus HD was 23 at this performance. This was the first performance of this song after they wrote it in Iceland the day before. According to an interview I saw today Robert Plant (singer), Jimmy Page. ( Lead guitar) were in Bath England with an audience of 100-200k to show off this new song they wrote in Iceland a few days before. They are all calling the Norse Gods to Follow them to war and conquer western lands. Bass John Paul Jones, Drums John Bonham
Led Zeppelin was created by Jimmy Page, the guitarist, out of the embers of the Yardbirds. The Yardbirds themselves were a 60s band that were very much influenced by black American blues singers such as Robert Johnson and BB King. It’s also worth noting that the Yardbirds birthed three rock gods: Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Both Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck played together at one point in the Yardbirds. Led Zeppelin were originally called the New Yardbirds.
Check out , " Since I've been loving you" by led zeppelin , Live at Madison Square Garden ,1973 ! An incredible performance , f'sho ! I was at their New York show and I'm 71yrs old now and I still love that cut !
My daughter's love this song from thor. Anyway they can hear and like music from 50 years ago i am good with. One on my favorite bands of all time. Each one of them are top notch. Jimmy Page- Enough said.
They used that same opening vocal sound in Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots are Made for Walking" song. Also, you should hear Robert Plant on the harmonica.
As someone already stated, this performance we're seeing is in Australia, but I'm 99% sure what we're hearing is from a show in Los Angeles at the Forum.
Since everyone obliged you with the name of all the band member, I'll add a bit of texture and a suggestion or two. Robert Plant and a few others are shown under the definition of "Rock Star", almost as if the word exists because of them. John Paul Jones is the most underrated bassist of all time, he is so nasty, but he never shows up on a best of list where he should be, by that I mean comfortably in the top 10. Check out "The Lemon Song" from the Led Zepplin II album, I suggest the studio version, pay special attention after Plant says "take it on down.." John Bonham is the gold standard for many a drum player, famous or not, and most will tell you they started drumming after hearing a Zepplin album. One of his most iconic beats is "Fool in the Rain", it really highlights his crazy tight timing and just beautiful technique. Now the part that will probably draw hate... I'm not a huge Jimmy Page fan. He is an absolute animal on the guitar, no doubt, and sure, at the time Zepplin was coming up in the UK his bluesy sound with that driving rock and roll feel that Bonham and Jones supplied was I am sure mind blowing, and I totally see why they were/are so popular, and deserve it. All that said, as the story goes (one of many I am sure) he got his love for the guitar in no small part from old black Southern blues guys of the 30's and 40's, who had albums that had made their way to the UK during the war, and as you will hear in a lot of Zepplin it is for sure a large influence on his playing. The problem is that he "may" have took a little more than influence from them, I'll just leave it there because it changes NOTHING as far as how talented he and the band are, and I have no problem separating the man from the music. I may not be a big Page fan, but I FUCKING LOVE Led Zepplin. Also, he really does do the blues thing well, check out "Traveling Riverside Blues", it will make you want to eat a fried catfish sandwich and lay back with a jug of moonshine.
Robert Plant (lead singer) Jimmy Page (lead guitarist) John Bonham (Bonzo) ( Drummer) John Paul Jones ( Keyboard/ Bass) the greatest rock band in history ever. They will never be surpassed ever.
Led Zeppelin is said to have set the standard for Rock Star debauchery, and decadence. Travelling in a jet called The Starship to shows, groupies, partying, and playing a set in between. The Rock n' Roll lifestyle if you had what it took to reach those heights. The drummer died in 1980, from choking on his vomit during his sleep, after a heavy night of drinking, and the group broke up right after. They only tried coming back together again 3 times since 1980. The last was in 2007, with the former drummers son, Jason Bonham sitting in for his dad.
Grew up in the 70s listening to Zeppelin! Still blasting them till this day! Greatest rock band to ever grace this planet!! 4 gods brought together who RULED! Plant BEST frontman🎤🎙 till this day! Jimmy Page🎸...John Paul Jones🎸...John Bonham🥁

when you have 4 of the greatest of all times in a band, you’re bound for greatness. Jones makes everyone’s top ten of best bassist, Page is always in top 3 guitarist, “Bonzo” Bonham is always in the top 1and 2 at drums and plant always cracks the top 5.
Thanks for your reactions to my favorite band ❤Led Zeppelin ❤
Getting into Zeppelin now! ROCK GODS!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!! Of COURSE Led Zeppelin beat they ass!!! "They come from the land of the ice and snow..."
PLEASE react to "KASHMIR" you will love it.
Singer is Robert Plant, he often wore the shirts from the groupies at the show that night.
Greatest band of all time
The live footage is from their 1972 tour here in Australia, (the concert at the S.C.G. Sydney Cricket Ground). They also played here in Melbourne at the Kooyong Tennis Centre.
"Since I've beenloving you" live from msg is a must
Live at MSG!!
Robert Plant does an eerie version of Hendrix's "Hey, Joe".
Wasn't born until 74 and one of my favorite bands, nothing compares 🙌
One of the greatest bands to come out of the UK.
Ahhh. The good all days of general admission when you were on the field and you just ran for your life for a good spot
Musicians back then put a piece of themselves in their music. If it touches your soul on a cellular level then they've done what they accomplished.
Saw them live in St Louis '74. They absolutely kicked ass. All of the members, man. Jimmy did a solo that was fckng mind blowing. Oh, they were fckng loud.
I was there, I was 17 at the time...The film footage taken from the band's performance at the Sydney Showground in Australia in February 1972; The audio track was from a Long Beach Arena show, in Los Angeles, in 1972.
Robert Plant--lead singer
Jimmy Page--lead guitar
John Bonham--drummer RIP❤
John Paul Jones--bass guitar
GREATEST BAND EVER TO WALK THE PLANET!! This was in Australia in 1972🎶🎶🎶 If you like the blues, listen to I Cant Quit You Baby🎶
I saw Led Zeppelin in 1970, my senior year in high school!🤤 My first concert and first acid trip!🤯😂 They did about a 10 minutes long version of "The Lemon Song" for the encore!🔥🥰 Jethro Tull was the opening act.😲 Fabulous concert!🤗 What a great time it was to be young and wild!💯😁❤️✌️👍
"Dyer Maker" , "Communication Breakdown" , "Kashmir" , "Rock n Roll" , "Good Times, Bad Times" , "Ramble On" , are all great ones 👍
Edit: I didn't know you'd already done a few reactions, lol but either way the ones I listed are greats ha
DYER MAKER IS SHIT
Just list their album names instead lol
@@sabrewolf1030 okay.
Stairway and Kashmir, 1 and 1a in top songs ever.
@@nickcapozzi6749 In Led Zeppelins opinion, "Kashmir" is their best song 👍
That Dude is still a Rock Star!!!!! This is a deep rabbit hole you just entered! Since you checked out Black Dog You should watch Robert Plant (lead singer) and Alison Krauss sing it on Crossroads!! So different, but awesome!
Led Zeppelin is what dreams are made of!. They set the tone for all things music! Thank you for this!
Excellent reaction. I was a teenager in the 70s, which means I'm old as dirt 🤣🤦♀️
Listen to the studio version on the best, most powerful stereo you can find. The Bass will blow you away.
The peerless JPJ
Legends , vocals is Robert Plant...
I remember when that song came out
Led Zeppelin was created by Jimmy Page, the guitarist, out of the embers of the Yardbirds.
Jimmy Page-
Enough said.
God yes...Jimmy!
John Bonham and John Paul Jones, the best rhythm section in rock history.
Ditto
100% agree with you
I was at this concert it was great.
They used that same opening vocal sound in Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots are Made for Walking" song. Also, you should hear Robert Plant on the harmonica.
This......just listen to Jimmy and Bonham while John Paul Jones plays bass 100 mph....and Robert screams about Thor! 🎼🎶🎸🎸🎤😎🔥🔥🔥
Check out "The Lemon Song" from the Led Zepplin II album, I suggest the studio version, pay special attention after Plant says "take it on down.."
John Bonham is the gold standard for many a drum player, famous or not, and most will tell you they started drumming after hearing a Zepplin album.
Kashmire was my fave when I was 15. My Uncle worked for Madison Square Garden, and hot tickets to see them. The drummer died and concert was cancelled Forever. We were devastated and bumming heavy! I saw so many concerts with him. He was only 25 my mom was the oldest of 7. One of my Uncles is 5 yrs. Older than me. Younger than my hubby. Lmao
