And it's the Spring of 1972, so there's no internet. But you never stop trying to find that out, because the song captures your soul. So eventually, 6 years later, your step brother finally clues you in...after which you go out and buy ALL of Led Zeppelin's albums :=)

Srek three also. After touring in Iceland Plant anyways became more interested in the Vikings, & yes their invasion of what would become England. I became more fascinated with that time, watching Netflix series The Last Kingdom, I was never interested in that before & now love it.
The Immigrant Song was also used in the opening credits for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011). But it wasn't performed by Led Zeppelin. It was good, but not as incredible as the original.
I was a school nurse and every afternoon when school let out, the school principal would blast this song when he left to go home. I was playing In the Evening by Led Zepp in my car and I always waved to the principal…see you tomorrow! … I loved working at that school !
Zep had just been on a visit to Iceland and they wrote this based on the Viking lore from Iceland. You have to watch the live version of it! The crowd and the energy is fantastic! You feel that drive so much more!
In a nutshell, it was a tribute to the college students that helped set up the venue. *Immigrant Song was written during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavík, Iceland, which inspired Plant to write the lyrics. He explained in an interview: We weren't being pompous ... We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different. Six days after Led Zeppelin's appearance in Reykjavik, the band performed the song for the first time in concert during the Bath Festival.
I love the way you notice John Paul Jones bass skills. Led Zeppelin has been my favorite band since I was a little kid. I love bass guitar and in my opinion he doesn't get enough recognition.
"Ramble On" has my favorite bass lines of any song. Even up again Les Claypool. Les is second in my eyes. Even Jimi Hendrix played bass in a couple of his songs.
Great on keyboards, too. "In Through the Out Door" was his album. I love it. Too bad they broke up at that time. Seems like they could have gone in a new direction.
Trust me when I tell you that this song would take control of any car and the possessed car would would drive faster. A friend of mine had a “modified” Mustang that was a convertible. This is one of the songs that we would crank up loud during while we were driving around with the car top down. We had a lot of fun back then.
Funny you mention that. I just got my Mustang out of storage on Friday afternoon (it's just an '03 6 cyl, but it is a convertible) and brought along my Led Zeppelin favs on CD for the ride home. Immigrant Song was what I put on first, followed by Kashmir, then Trampled Underfoot. Loud music and convertibles just go together.
❤️ it!!! I listen to this on loop when I’m flying home to Norway. Daughter of the Viking Kings - n I really feel this song! Led Zeppelin is truly from another World.. and it’s one that we all love!!!👸
One of my favorites!! Thanks for bringing back awesome memories of me and my friends cruising the avenue back in the day jammin to some Zeppelin. Man it was great growing up in the 70's for sure!! Wish I had a time machine to go back to those days! Peace!
This song is one of my Sons favorite Cover songs to do. He listened to it and fell in love with it. Shows that moms have excellent taste in music and know how to rock 😊
Damn I miss those days when my X-husband and I were still dating. We were inseparable and loved going to concerts and driving around in my 74 Dodge Charger with this song and many other classics just cranked on a bitchin stereo. Yup we drank beer and smoked weed and NEVER got in accidents because we were smart and kept our wits about us. We got pulled over constantly because of the car and our leather jackets but we were always polite to the police and were always let go with a warning. We had so much fun driving all over Vancouver BC back when it was still amazing.

Good shout, and we settled into a high speed groove. As you do. After 20 minutes of wonderfully enigmatic and rythmic synth music, my mate wanted to, er, ‘up the tempo and let’s see what this girl can do.’ He put on ‘The Immigrant Song’, and before I know it we’re doing 200kph. That’s around 125mph for you luddites! 😝 A buzz like little else, and over the piece I’ve buZZed a bit. THAT’S high speed driving music; Polo you are correct, sir. As a closer, he played Rush. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 NOTHING by Led Zeppelin is ANYTHING LESS than a COMPLETE BANGER!! Should check out Rain Song....would be interested in seeing your reaction to it!! THANKS, POLO!!
So glad more Zeppelin!! Everything is so great!! Every song is awesome!! Try the Wanton Song, Trampled Under Foot, Houses of the Holy, etc, etc! ❤❤❤❤ RIP John Bonham, Bonzo
You've heard this in Thor Ragnarok - at the start of the movie! Zeppelin doesn't allow their songs to be used, very rarely. I've only heard them 3x in films. The producer of Thor filmed the starting scene with Chris Hemlock fighting, added this track, then sent it to them to ask permission! The mention of Valhalla in the song also made it was a perfect fit, but they had to convince Zeppelin. The other two movies that featured Zep tracks were 1) The Big Short - When the Levee Breaks (totally appropriate for that movie!!) and the second movie was The Adam Project - Good Times Bad Times. :)
Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Kashmir and When the Levee Breaks are my favorite Led Zeppelin songs! Trent Reznor did a really great cover of this for the movie “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. Karen O does the vocals on that cover.
I was just shy of 5 years old when this was released. Sitter brought the album over and played it on the HI FI in the livingroom. I was mesmerized and hooked. 58 year old granny drummer thanks to Bonzo's magical rhythms
Hey, I appreciate your love of exploring and experiencing music. Much love, man. I thought I'd suggest two Zep songs: "Your Time is Gonna Come" - it's smooth, each band member shines, great production and damn fine vibe and song. It's not one that people tend to suggest, but it's SO good. You will love it. "Good Times Bad Times" - an absolute banger and really REALLY shows off what Zep is about. Also, this one is special, because it is the first song on their first album. This is how they said, "HELLO. We are the new ones that will rock the world". I know you've got a ton of songs from all sorts of artist you'll be doing, but if you feel the itch to go for either or both of these two tunes, I am quite certain you will be very pleased.
After moving from abroad back to UK after finishing school, I had to present previous artwork. When it arrived from overseas, it was ruined by mishandling and rain. I sat down with this album cover, which had just come out, as a "creativity booster" and scribbled away like crazy trying to produce something slightly more than just worthwhile. My "doodles" as they described them nonetheless did the trick and I was in!
May be one band ever that starts a song approaching cool like Zeppelin, Heart's "Barracuda" and "Crazy on You" give me the same vibe as "Immigrant Song." Heart definitely rifts off Zeppelin, probably why they were the final act at the Kennedy Center's Led Zeppelin Tribute ten years ago or so.
Love seeing you go down the Led Zeppelin road. I'm always nervous about your reactions to the bands I love and it's very satisfying when I see you ""get it ". Much respect for your musical opinion and love your content. As a drummer who loves the bass line I am with you on that one bruh! I look forward to your next one. Peace out.
At the time, and standing the test of time generationally, Zeppin kills it with the best guitarist, bass, drums and vocals of all time coming together. Add songwriting as well. Please check out one of my favorites How Many More Times.❤
Polo, my brother, I don’t know if it was this weeks cataract surgery or what, but you are glowing and angelic. The immigrant song is short, sweet and kick ass. Thanks for the review. Always good to listen with you. 🖖🏼
Just started watching your videos, love the ones with Led Zeppelin. Brings me back to my teenage years. They were so good. And I listen to all Led Zeppelin with the volume turned up high!
We take Zep for granted now. But at the time they created I and II, a lot of us were still listening to polkas and waltzes. Once we put up a tall TV antenna, I could get WLS radio out of Chicago. And this was the first ZEP song I heard. I was amazed.
Congratulations you're in the Led Zeppelin Rabbit Hole! They played this love from 70-73 but the best ones might be from '71 some noteworthy performances: Blueberry hill '70 Orlando '71 Tokyo 1971-09-23 (my all time favorite) Los Angeles 72' I think you'd enjoy them
Polo, you never ceist to amaze me !!! My younger friends of color say they HATE this music !! They don't take the time to listen like you do !!! Thank you. Zepplin is and will always be the best.
Well now you just have to hear a live version .... '72' world tour - Sidney, Aus fairgrounds (audio might be spliced in from the California shows, same tour) Watch them bring this to life and you will also hear one of the earliest heavy metal sounds that helped influence the future genre!
Immigrant Song is one of my favourite Led Zep songs. I really love Rain Song, if you haven't heard it yet. I think you'll be surprised by how different it is.
If you've seen any of Marvel's movies, you've probably already heard this song without realizing it. "Immigrant Song" is a song by the band Led Zeppelin from their album Led Zeppelin III, It is heard in the teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok and twice during the film. The song was/is so popular, it was selected and serves as a theme song for the movie and for the Thor character, and its lyrics reflect the plot of the movie.
Hey Polo ~ This is one of those songs that is rarely sung at karaoke, because of how difficult it is. Back in the day, when I was really working my voice and practicing all the time, I felt really great one night and chose this one at my favorite karaoke bar. I'm proud to say I pulled it off. I've only done it the one time as the opening "hawk" sounds as you called them, are a real vocal cord killer, unless you do them just so. It's one of my favorite Zep songs. I knew you'd love it.
This is what I like about Zeppelin, every album is an evolution of the band. This is one of those song you could play two seconds of the song and I could name it. Always a good one to hear.

They also used it for snow whites fight seen in shrek
If you want to listen to a sick bass riff there’s lemon song by led zeppelin
You need to turn it up per saying "I do not always listen to Led Zeppelin but when I do so do my neighbors"

@@chrisross-fd3fo lol...any band would be happy to have Ten Years Gone On one of their albums.
Well said!!
No Quarter is the aftermath.
facts!
This is about the Viking raids on the British Isles over 1,000 years ago. The beginning is a war cry!
They use this in the Thor movies.
Robert wrote this about the Viking hordes coming to Britain. 😊 It’s very primal! ❤
I was also featured in "School of Rock". Jack Black begged the band to let him use it for the movie.

“We come from the land of the ice and snow” For DECADES, I hear Robert Plant’s wail and that killer line; AMPS me UP!!!!!! 🔥
That bass line is ferocious. Just a beast.
Oh yes very powerful.

"One of the nastiest grooves I've ever heard" Hell yeah brother!

They opened quite a few concerts with this song.
"They sang songs about love, about vikings...about vikings making love." - Jack Black
This album doesn’t get the same recognition as II and IV. Every song is great but side one is unreal. 🏄♂️
💯😎
Every member of this band is top-notch, and they let it show. You have to do When The Levee Breaks. Please!
He did it five months ago.

Agreed! Jimmy's added solo in that live version is super tasty.
Bonham was a goddam genius!!!
It's a jam. The lore is that this song was sort of a joke song, after doing a gig in Iceland. Turns out, everybody loves the jam.
This is Vivaldi in rock form. Love this song!

They played this love from 70-73 but the best ones might be from '71 some noteworthy performances:
Blueberry hill '70
Orlando '71
Tokyo 1971-09-23 (my all time favorite)
Los Angeles 72'
I think you'd enjoy them
Check out, "Babe, I'm gonna leave you." by Zeppelin. Next level bluesy goodness.
If you’ve never heard no Zeppelin before boy are you in for a treat.Strap your headphones on cause you’re in for a ride
I seen all of your reactions to Led Zeppelin. You do now know they are the best lol.
Zep is one of the most sampled bands . Eg. Tupac "Life's so hard" Sampling "Ten years gone."
"CELEBRATION" IS REALLY GOOD SHOWING OFF JIMMY PAGE'S TALENT🎸🎸🎸🎸
Polo, you never ceist to amaze me !!! My younger friends of color say they HATE this music !! They don't take the time to listen like you do !!! Thank you. Zepplin is and will always be the best.
Hands down the best rock group of all time. I've always thought so and I'll always say so! "Kashmir."
You restarted this song and i replayed this video as this is one of my favourite Zeppelin songs! Loved seeing you react to it ❤
Well now you just have to hear a live version .... '72' world tour - Sidney, Aus fairgrounds (audio might be spliced in from the California shows, same tour) Watch them bring this to life and you will also hear one of the earliest heavy metal sounds that helped influence the future genre!
Having a LOT of Scandinavian ancestry, this song is my favorite guilty pleasure.
my god man, how I envy you the experience of first hearing as an adult the grooves I grew up with - it has to hit different
It's crazy. Their songs, inspired by Vikings and JRR Tolkien were the other side of Zep, who did all the old Willie Dixon blues mega remakes.
85 baby here and this song is a classic, zeppelin is well known in my home
Best rythym section ever.
Immigrant Song is one of my favourite Led Zep songs. I really love Rain Song, if you haven't heard it yet. I think you'll be surprised by how different it is.
good s*** never goes bad!
LOVE IT POLO!
This is in my top 3 Zeppelin songs!
1:12 .... You mean the Viking berzerker WAIL?! 😅
This is what I like about Zeppelin, every album is an evolution of the band. This is one of those song you could play two seconds of the song and I could name it.
Always a good one to hear.
