How well do you think that would work on the S & B larger fuel tank ?? Maybe not so good because it is longer. ??

Where you notched out the shield for the hoses. Go to any auto parts store and buy a set of black thin self sticking door edge guards. You can cut lengths needed to go in those square rough cut outs. This will give it a finished smooth edge to look good and will protect the hoses from chaffing.

Nice looking kit. Wish is were designed a bit differently. Spin around the filter mount 180 degrees in order to shorten the hoses. I'm concerned about my fuel lines being so exposed.

Just put this on my truck. I have the factory 48 gallon tank with the long bed. Filter mounts with the same hardware just longer hoses because the fuel block bracket mounts to the drivers side forward bed mount bolt they put have a hole in the bracket and give you a big flat washer and nut no need to take the nut off the bed mount bolt very solid and the hoses get routed over the frame rail. Also no plastic shield to modify. Down side is the filter is outside the main frame rails. Plus side you don’t need to crawl under to drain or change.

So glad I found this comment. I just ordered this setup two days ago and called HS-M and asked them if I had to take the caged nut off to install this. Good thing I don’t because I’ve got a 91 gallon rds combo sitting right over that bolt and didn’t want to have to remove the tank for that one bolt. 🙏🏼

Interesting setup. Firmly believe the SPE version is a lot better. Replaces the entire plastic housing, and the filters screw right the new manifold.

For anyone doing this mod I can confirm the Donaldson P553203 which is a superior filter at 3 microns absolute instead of 10-15 like the cat filters and works with the HSM lower. You can also install P569758 bowl so you can see the fuel and if there’s any water that needs drained.
The 3 micron rating is better than the upper stock filter at 4 microns.
I can also confirm that Baldwin BF46228 fits the HSM upper kit and offers superior filtration compared to the BF7967 at 4 microns absolute vs 4 microns nominal 15 microns absolute. The BF46228 is just a little longer maybe half an inch.

@himni1, I also use this Donaldson filter with the clear sight bowl on my 2012 I made a very similar set up and like you said, straight out of the tank to a 3 micron filter is superior then most.

FYI for anyone installing this kit, HSM said the fittings in the hoses can be twisted or spun for proper hose alignment, the way my fittings were positioned in the hoses from them kept putting a slight kink in one of the hoses. The fittings almost need to be 90 degrees from each other to aid in proper positioning. Mine were pointing the same direction. Hope this helps if you find yours doing the same.

Why Ford went to all that plastic sh*t, glad to see a kit made to convert things to spin ons makes servicing so much easier. I'm not a fan of the cartridge system that's used on the 6.0 the HFCM is awful I dread changing that filter. Myself I would have prefilled that filter with Diesel Kleen not right full mind you may be half. My procedure I always write the date and kilometers or hours on spin on fuel filters.

Another very informative vid. ARod. Like the HSM kit way better than the SPE kit, since one of two the SPE filters hangs scary low - lower than fuel tank skid plate (yikes!). Would you recommend adding a quick wrap of teflon Thread tape or gel sealant on the fittings (or would fuel just degrade it ? I always prime my “upside down” fuel & oil filters. Am i doing it wrong? I like that you zip tied the lines. Always a concern for lines snagging / getting snagged by something when off road (or when your mother in law is napping on the driveway).

To add to this. The CAT filter doesn’t meet filtration spec. Ford primary filter is 10 micron absolute and can filter 96% of emulsified water. Baldwin is 13 micron absolute and does meet water filtration spec. The Donaldson P550847 does meet both filtration and water emulsion filtration specs. Just thought I’d add to this. I am rather curious if the WIF sensor will correctly operate too. The water will drop out in the water separator/filter. They may make a filter that has a WIF provision but I don’t think the stock sensor would work in that situation. Might be possible to wire in an aftermarket sensor into the loop that would still trigger an accurate response if we knew the circuit values.

Then you can simply buy a water separator and fuel filter of any brand of your choice, and they install in the same place. Here you still have one under the hood and one under the truck. How hard is it to remove the fuel filter housing from the truck, do i have to drop the tank to do so so I can replace the mounting bracket ?

Couple questions? Just was thinking of the placement of fuel water separator since OEM it looks like the filter is placed well below the pump in tank, wouldn't placing that aftermarket filter higher, I can't tell if it's below the pump or above? couldn't that cause more air entrapment? Also with road vibration aren't the hoses more susceptible to damage due to rubbing against plastic protector?
