Hey, just an FYI you may want to do an update or comment insert on your video. I followed this video for installing the HSM conversion on my 2017 F250. I made a couple trips around town, all OK. Then I headed out on a 180 mile trip over a mountain pass. About 20 miles out of town engine suddenly shut down and I was fortunately able to pull off right away. What I discovered was that the HSM supplied fuel line hose pulled off of the barbed fitting which was on the HSM hose side (not the side of OEM smaller hose with supplied clamp). HSM now advises there should be a clamp on the other side as well. Your video is excellent but shows the old version (11:25 - 11:55) and can be a problem if the supplied hose pulls off. HSM claims they are supplying two clamps now. Mine only came with one and instructions did not indicate a second one was needed.
So how do you get around having to buy the upper and lower fuel filter together since they're only sold that way? Have you found a way to buy just the lower fuel filter by itself?
Small fuel tank? Go to Titan Tanks. I replaced the 35 gal with a 55 gal underneath in my 2018 F-250 superduty. I also put a 50 gal Titan tank in the bed with a transfer pump. That gave me 105 gal fuel capacity. It costs over $300 to fill up completely but what a trade off for the range. Do a video on the tank swap. And, the guys at Titan are super cool. Great company.
I did not have to cut the small 5/16 line. There was plenty of pipe to reach the far right connector on the HSM block. I kept all the factory connectors. I used Earls AT949064ERL Earls 90 Degree -6 AN Male to 7/16"-20 Swivel and a Torque Solution Quick Connect Fitting Male 5/16" to -6 AN Female.
GREAT VIDEO, appreciate your time. , Noticed at 12:03 in video, it appears that HS forgot to install the clamp on opposite side of small barb fitting where you cut and attached Ford hose. My HS upgrade small hose arrived with a compression clamp installed on one side of the small fuel line and they supplied a clamp for use during installation on the opposite side of the barb fitting to the small fuel line. Hope you are no having leaks or adding something after shooting the install video.
Been there done that won’t do it again. I did this modification on my 2012 450 because the engine fuel filter was a bastard to install and remove. The little koozie thing lasted one filter change interval. When I went to change the filter 10k miles later it came off the filter in two pieces. Plus it never set in the holder correctly, kept riding up and almost out. Only thing holding it in place was the fuel lines. Also good luck finding just the frame mounted filter. The only manufacturer I could get one from for the 2012 was aFe Power.
Is there enough slack in the fuel lines to change the spin on filter without disconnecting the lines? If not, there is nothing accomplished with this "upgrade"
If there was a fuel system related failure or the fuel system caused a failure,...you can bet Ford will say the modification voids the warranty. Then it’s your lawyers versus Ford lmao. Just keep it stock, there is no problem with the stock inline filter, it’s the morons who don’t know how to remove and install correctly.
What's the advantage of this? It's just like the factory plugs of the plastic filter, they too can pop off. Is this just for looks or is it a better filter?
The plastic caps are defective and get a pinhole in them. It will cover the inside of your engine bay with fuel. I had mine do it with 28k miles on my f250 platinum.
Why on earth would you install that filter? How many microns does this filter? Here are the warnings listed on the H & S website. The stock filter works down to 4 microns that's why I asked what this filter does. I'm installing FASS fuel system which will filter down to 2 microns and that system has many other benefits.
Don't listen to the manufacturer's suggested services. Services need to be done a lot more often if you want the truck to last. The manufacturers main concern is about making money off of us, not so much at building something that's going to last without any issues. I been dealing with diesels my whole life and I can reassure you, changing fuel filters often is a must. I wouldn't go past 15000 miles one bit. You really shouldn't go much past 10000 in my opinion. Especially with the cp4 pump. On my 21 I'll be changing every 8000 to 10000 miles. Might be over kill, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper then a completely new fuel system, or engine.
The brown clip has a small plastic barb in it that can easily snap off under routine oil changes. There is the safety aspect in that but also the Baldwin filter is supposed to be of much higher quality than the OEM stuff. Not sure the specifics on that, I guess I more so took the internets word on it..
Every aftermarket part company has warnings or fine print on their products. It’s to cover them in case something goes wrong the end user doesn’t come after them in a lawsuit. Pretty straightforward stuff in the aftermarket auto industry... Don’t like it, don’t mod it. I bet FASS has similar verbiage somewhere on their site.

Can you buy just buy the water serperator filter by its self or does it also come as a package deal ( both filters together) ???
When should the baldwin filter be changed out?
I guess I missed it but what was the advantage of changing the secondary fuel underhood & what is it's micron rating? Thanks.

Just curious as to why HS doesn't make a fitting so you (we) dont have to cut our fuel line? Seems that it would be easy to do.
Exactly my thought.. Seriously! They made the other bung plugs to accept the plugs but require you to cut the third one makes no damn sense..
They do that because that last fitting is notorious for breaking. I agree there has to be some other options, but the stock fitting is garbage.
