- Out of all the Mechwarrior 5 Preorder Mechs the Marauder MAD-9M is probably the best one. Equipped with an ECM and a nice combination of weapon hardpoints it is the dream of everyone who likes to play sturdy missile based builds. Today I want to show you a Marauder 9M build that uses MRMs and Medium Lasers for great mid-range DPS.

I am using Haven Kendrick's Soundpack! Download it here: / haven_kendrick . To install, simply locate your Mechwarrior Online installation folder, open "Game" and you will see lots of .pak files. Drop the sound mod file into that folder with the other .pak files, restart the client, and you are good to go!

[Edit]Oh, and getting murdered in the Nascar in the 2nd[/Edit] Thanks for following me into that brawl, didn't realize until I watched the video that I was under your ECM. The flea at the end of the round really was chewing me up, I put my butt into a wall but I couldn't look down far enough to get him. That was my first round out with that mech, I can see I'll want to save some skill points for torso pitch.
Marauders have always been rock solid Mechs. I consider them the height of Zentradi engineering.

In the 2nd match you did more damage than the whole Assault lance alltogether :D
I'm torn between this and the MAD-5D. When engaged in a brawl I think the 5D is a little better, due to MRM convergence and the JJ's. But when skirmishing and during positioning the 9M is better with that ECM. BUT then again, you can do some small poptarting with the 5D with the JJ's in some situations, also getting around obstacles is faster with the JJ's... But ECM is so nice!

I too love this mech. I’m currently running TTB’s version with mrm 40s and small lasers. Having great success with it.

Imagine Baradul appearing in Mechwarrior5 as a character.....some kind of feudal lord defending an estate. I can see it working with that beard :D It would also obviously be an impossible mission.
a really good mech, but 5 ML are too hot in the most cases, so I switched them for ERSL and raised the engine to 325

Very nice. If you don't have the bonus Marauder, try something similar if you happen to have a Tempest. It's served me well for a long while.
That second game especially was really fun to watch. Always pushing those limits... 🤪

Hey Bara...great vid as always...BUT...on the rare occasions where your team is communicating and fighting well...AND it’s an interesting fight perhaps you could throttle back on your tutorial(s) and follow or comment on the drop caller and lance mates who are coordinating effectively...plenty of time and vids to keep the rest of us up to speed on nuanced fighting....
I run a similar build on my own MAD-9DS, but I opted for 2 MLs, 3 MPLs and MRM 10s with LAMS. It isn't as bursty, but with a couple extra heat sinks I can fire for days even on hot maps like Tourmaline Desert without issue. It keeps pressure on with the faster weapons cycling.

I did horrible that second match. I was trying out the king crab. Was lagging behind and got picked off early. Embarrassing especially for a tier 1 pilot. Only played that mech a couple times and sold it after a couple more horrible matches. It's too bad that matches where I get over a thousand damage never make it onto UA-cam videos. It's always my worst matches that do. That being said I'm happy the team won and I did not ruin the match. You clearly carried the team. I hope one day I will get another chance redeem myself in one of your videos.

Truly Magnificient fight in the second part
I've had to switch to ER Smalls and swap Endo for Light Ferro to get an extra heat sink to not roast myself while skilling this thing up, but I like the build. Also toying with the idea of dropping to a LFE280. I think something has got to give to be effective on hotter maps.
I upped my engine to a XL 325 to get that extra heat sink slot in the engine. The extra speed helps a bit. I have had mine for a couple of days now. I got my "Seriously?!" and my "Johnny 5" yesterday along with a 1260 dmg match. It's a great mech.
It's early, I'm looking at the end score on 'ping' thinking it was a low damage game for a second....Caffiene...we needs da caffeine... Liked that brawl in the second came. Messy but effective.
When Baradul gets 1k dmg and has the humblest reaction.
In all honesty, you make this game worth playing. Whenever I feel bored I look at your videos and I am just inspired to see what can be made and how I can change the game up for myself! Thank you so much Baradul!

I don't guess I pre-ordered early enough to get the special mechs, but I did get the 9M in the Spooky Bundle. Instead of the gold trim, it is a gun metal blue. Do the colors in all Hot Rod Black and the thing looks like a sports car.
I changed my build slightly to drop the stealth and add a laser AMS, but it is still quite deadly and very tanky. I used it to get my Bridesmaid and right after that, my Johnny 5 with a 1260 dmg match. Now that they are available for MC, I have to admit that I am tempted to get another one, so I can have one stealth and one non-stealth ready to go.
This is a sweet ride.

You can do stealth armor on it and stealth armor is silly and they just don't shoot you sometimes.

Hey Baradul. Could you show us some Hellspawn Mech play. I've been wanting to get one. Because of how it could play as a Ambush Skirmisher. They Having good weapon loadout options combo-ed with ECM and jump jets. With Good to high speed. I can imagine the Hell Spawn to be a Night mare to fight against. XD
Well played as always Baradul. I was in the second game, it was a great match. The stealth mech at the end was an Enforcer Ghillie. I realized he was gauss sniping @ 15:00 so I broke away and harassed him to keep him from back stabbing the rest of the team. Definitely one of my better matches in the Arctic Cheetah. So about 5 to 7kph faster than the ecm stalker, but 20 less alpha on the mrms and less armor and less heat management. I dunno they share the same wiggle your nose to splash dmg profile, what do ya think 1 vs the other?
They are very comparable. It is nice to have arm actuators on the MRMs occasionally, but overall the MAD feels like the same mech for 10 less tons.

I agree the MAD-9M is the best preorder mech. But my TBR Warrant (LBX-10, 2xER PPC, 2xSRM2) honestly stomps it in just about every category except hardpoint placement and of course ECM. It's a good alpha strike mech, but the heat kind of makes it a "one and done," the damage sustainability just isn't there like it is in my TBR-WAR.

Your build comes up short compared to mine. -- At 74.9 weight (w/ no skill points yet) = I have light 300 / ECM / 2xMRM30 / 5xML / 4xDBL HS / TC Mk1 / but I also have full 463/463 armor and 1/2 ton more MRM ammo in torso for 4.5t total. and 76/78 Internal slots used..... ( Armor = std / structure = endo) isn't that strange?
You could leave out the TC and add a heat sink in one of the arms. That fills all your critical slots
@@comstock79 - rgr that , but the point was I had the same *exact* build baradul has, yet had room for an additional 1/2 ton of ammo and full armor... and still have 2 internal slots left.

Why does my MAD-9M(S) has no armor quirks?
His 9M is getting armor quirks from the survival skill tree; the mech itself doesn't have any.
Wanted to preorder MW5 but have been burned by the preorders in the pasted. I'm waiting for the game to be release before I purchase it, no matter how bad I want it.
I found a great build for the special variant catapult. 2 lb10's and 4 srm2's the cooldown is exactly the same with the included lbx coooldown perk.

Baradul:
I have always loved the missile variant of the Marauder and have run it with a single MRM 40, 1 LL, 4ML. I have also run 2MRM30 and 5 ML. When I saw this one coming I really began to salivate. It has much in common with the Archer Tempast which is also ECM, typically runs 2 MRM30, 2 ML in the CT and 4 ML in the arms but the Marauder has better hit boxes and doesn't suffer from the low cockpit / high shoulders of the Tempest.
This new Marauder is a beast. I prefer to have the extra missiles so I do not take the TC but otherwise am running the same build. It really is a joy to run and is a strong C-Bill earner!

It was released as the MAD-9M in the Spooky Bundle and I grabbed it. It was worth the price of the Spooky Bundle all by itself. Now, it is available for MC, but sadly not for C-Bills. I think it is worth the price of MC, but it might be on sale for half price in one of the future events. If so, grab one.
I run exact the same build.. but I'm doing just ok in it, but not very good. I win most of my games, get lots of kmdd, but rarely get a kill so far. Hm. :/

Don't focus on being the first to engage and if you do just throw some missiles and duck into cover. I also highly advise taking the seismic sensor nodes with this build. You already are 90% of the way there with the ECM nodes. Knowing when the enemy is going to poke around the corner is invaluable for lining up 60 MRMs and 5 ML.
As the late game comes if you have preserved yourself the MRMs are going to start decimating open components. That is when you are going to start seeing the kills roll up.
@@kennethfharkin Exactly. I tend to get my kills in the last moments of a match. Like a few seconds apart.

You must try machines. Yes W 98. They still can't beet the training in it. Alert. They all missed it. Oh shit ? What else's new !!! Blaaaaaaaaa. They missed freespace 2 ! Blaaaaaaaaaa. OMG ! Oh ouch ! Dropping like fly's ? Right.
Nothing about this mech's quirk?? I think that's worth mentioning. This mech can fire 4 large lasers without a heat penalty.
It's honestly not that good tbh, even without the ghost heat it still runs crazy hot with less heatsinks and alpha than a typical IS laser vomit combining 3 larges and some number of mediums. Not to mention that while the Marauder's arms are not the worst hardpoints in the world, they offer no advantage either. At the ranges fights typically take place in in this game you'd get wrecked due to your low alphas and low DPS and if you hang back to snipe your team is really going to miss having a nice tanky Marauder sharing armor with them.
This quirk is not so great when pugging, but firing 4 ER Large with no ghost heat is great in a 12 man faction match.

Well if you put it that way, im gonna do it now.
You shoot your teammates so often. You're constantly calling for action from the back, and when you do get teammates in front, you hit them in the back.
Looks a bit pay to win compared to the other missile MAD.
No jump jets. You cannot put a large energy in the head. I have run that other MAD with a HPPC and MRM40. It is a beast.
As far as PTW, it will eventually be available but so what? If people pay to support this game they should get something for it. The game isn't charity.
@@kennethfharkin Advantage in MW5? Sure, no problem. Advantage in MWO? No, bad move on PGI's part. But hey, PGI isn't known for good biz decisions anyways, so no surprise there. Just like MWO playerbase doesn't overlap much with BattleTech, same thing will apply with MW5. People who want MMO experience don't care much for playing against AI, but you will sure piss them off if you require them to buy a PvE game to get advantage in PvP.
@@ChurchAutoTest PGI needs to keep the lights on. MWO and MW5 are pretty damn closely related so I think the complaint is not worth the electrons.
@@kennethfharkin and yet, here you are. I stopped spending recently because of PGI's stupidity. If they'd been smarter (about balance decisions, FW, etc.), I'd still be spending, so they'd have a better chance of keeping the lights on. I love playing MWO, but PGI tests that on a monthly basis.
@@ChurchAutoTest There are changes I would like in MWO and things I certainly believe could be done better. I can say though that I have no problem throwing $20 in for a mech pack which interests me from time to time (WHMR IIC was the last although I would have gotten the MAD II if it weren't included in MW5). Iv'e been a PC gamer since ZORK and can say that no online game has gotten more hours of play from me than MWO.
Changes can be made but I still get tons of enjoyment from the game.
