Honestly, I think that's an exaggeration. I've lived in LA my entire life and never had my car broken into, or personally know anyone who has had their car broken into. And, I've lived in areas considered both good and bad. It might actually be a rich people area issue.

In my highschool, we had almost weekly reports saying kids got robbed. Phones, wallets, keys, and other valuables were lost monthly, but there was never a point where we were told to not be upset and expect the worst. It can be both. You can like places and still admit they have faults. Either way, crime is a problem in every big city, in that sense he's right (Charlie seems surprised that someone is told not to leave valuables in the car, even though I've heard this multiple times). What's really wrong with LA is the homelessness and the car dependency. I walked from the downtown to the Amtrak station and I must've gone past a several mile stretch of homeless tents. In the end though was a Mexican quarter with some live music and stands. The car dependence also makes life hell if you don't want to drive, and if you do.

As someone who used to live in ghetto in LA, I can confirm it's a shithole. I literally every anti theft protection device I could afford in my car after it was broken into and stolen on 2 separate occasions. My first line of defense was a steering wheel and wheel lock. The second line of defense was a kill switch that I hid in the gear stick, which you couldn't start the car without disabling. This leads me to my third line of defense, I had a stick shift. I literally didn't leave anything in my car, except my vehicle registration and insurance, and a lighter for my cigarettes It took a long time after leaving the ghetto to break those habits.

It can be both. You can like places and still admit they have faults. Either way, crime is a problem in every big city, in that sense he's right (Charlie seems surprised that someone is told not to leave valuables in the car, even though I've heard this multiple times). What's really wrong with LA is the homelessness and the car dependency. I walked from the downtown to the Amtrak station and I must've gone past a several mile stretch of homeless tents. In the end though was a Mexican quarter with some live music and stands. The car dependence also makes life hell if you don't want to drive, and if you do.

As someone who used to live in ghetto in LA, I can confirm it's a shithole. I literally every anti theft protection device I could afford in my car after it was broken into and stolen on 2 separate occasions. My first line of defense was a steering wheel and wheel lock. The second line of defense was a kill switch that I hid in the gear stick, which you couldn't start the car without disabling. This leads me to my third line of defense, I had a stick shift.
I literally didn't leave anything in my car, except my vehicle registration and insurance, and a lighter for my cigarettes
It took a long time after leaving the ghetto to break those habits.

casey lived in la for over 2 years and had his car broken into for the first time from what I know and gets the problem resolved and gets all his stuff back to him but decides immediately to move back to nyc after this incident and call la a third world country.
