I feel the same on James. Lars is unpredictable as usual, sometimes he’s tight as hell, sometimes he’s very sloppy. Kirk seems to have problems remembering some leads here and there. He plays wrong notes/chords from time to time still. Rob is rock solid as always.

Inbetween European and South American and North American tours and rehearsals for them, and constant random shows here and there, they are writing, rehearsing and recording new material, probably more aggressively than in the 80's and 90's. Howard's audio mix is always legendary but it's more interesting to see how the band's live arrangement of the new song is evolving. if you wanna get critical, you can tell that it's not yet perfect *("we know you know how to play the old stuff")* but it's already extremely tight. this band is effortlessly tight which is exactly what you get after 40 years of touring together.

The whole reason Metallica is big is just the chemistry between all of them as a whole(and it is amazing). I'd just love to hear an instrumental album of just James

Lar's drumming is fantastic in this. He's in the pocket the whole time.

No he isn't - you're just obviously used to modern metal bands that have robotic time-aligned drums.
