    Carly is the daughter of Richard Simon, cofounder of the Simon & Schuster publishing house. So she was raised in an affluent and well connected family. She would know many famous and "vain" people with private jets. 🤣 But her talent carried her to her own success and fame as one of the top singer-song writers of the 70's and beyond.

      Warren Beatty's sister is Shirley MacLaine and apparently their mother was from Nova Scotia Canada so that could explain the Nova Scotia connection. Perhaps Warren and Shirley still have relatives living in Nova Scotia, cousins etc.

    The song is written about the actor Warren Beatty. My son works at the horse racetrack in Saratoga Springs New York that she refers to. She grew up rich but isn't an heiress. Her father died in 1960 when Carly was 17. She was left 60k$ from the 1 million her father received after selling his stake in the company. Adjusted for inflation, she received around 600k USD in today's $. That's a healthy inheritance, but it's not like she was Alice Walton (Wal-Mart) or Françoise Bettencourt (L'Oréal) type of heiress.

    She also tells a story of a rich girl who is disillusioned with marriage "That's the way I always heard it should be." The situation may seem unfamiliar to young people today, but in the late 60s and 70s women were just starting to break out of identifying only as "mrs" someone.

    When asked what she thought was the best break-up song ever, Taylor Swift immediately responded by saying, "You're So Vain", by Carly Simon. There is also a video on UA-cam of Taylor and Carly singing a duet of this song.

    Rumor has it that some of it was about Warren Beatty, maybe some James Taylor. Amazing song. Glad it touched you.

    Carly finally admitted that one verse in particular was written about the actor Warren Beatty. To prove her point about him being vain, she said only one verse was about him. But she then reiterates he probably thinks the whole song is about him, because that’s how vain he was. Genius. Thanks for the great reaction. 👏👏🥰

    * Legend in Your Own Time
    * Anticipation
    * The Right Thing to Do
    * Nobody Does It Better (theme song from a James Bond Movie)

    BP, Think Simon says. Lol! As others have said, some of the song is about Warren Beatty but Carly refused to answer that question until he book came out. Just in case you're not familiar....he was a huge Actor back then and dated many starlets. Think Tom Cruise level from the 60s to the 80s. He married Annette Bening in 1992. But before he was a player's player. I think he was on more National Inquirers than many others. Just check out his Wikipedia. But Carly says it's about 3 guys so....

    An iconic song-love Carly. For years it was believed she wrote this for Mick Jagger, who she had dated but nope, he sings back-up on this. Or James Taylor, who she was married to, but nope. Or Cat Stevens, who she also dated, but she said nope (See Anticipation which Cat did inspire). She has acknowledged one verse written for Warren Beatty, another love interest of hers but I don't think she has revealed the others. A great guessing game for decades now💞

    Most men wouldn't say that out loud. Putting yourself on Blast like that about your past. It's shows how much you've grown as a man. One that'll be there for his girls, if she gets her heart broken... God forbid that ever happens. 💯 You're definitely a kind man & going to be a Great Father. Kudos to you!!! Very inspiring!!
