Chris Isaak was once described as what would happen if Elvis and Roy Orbison had a baby and it was born into the body of Michelangelo's David. I have loved him for years.

I only knew Chris Isaak from this song, but about 10 years ago a friend had an extra ticket to a Chris Isaak show, and he asked if I wanted to go. I said yes (I mean it, was free!). I was blown away by his entire show. I've now seen him four additional times. I've told multiple people to go and see him if he's in your town. They've all been blown away. So, I say to everyone here. If Chris Isaak passes through your town, go and see him. Isaak and the band are great.

I've never had the chance to see him live, sad to say. I can remember my cousin and I taking a surf trip way down into Baja California and listening to Isaak's "Baja Sessions" album on the drive, which came out a few years after "Wicked Game." That album has been one of my all-time favorites every since. Such a talented dude who doesn't get enough recognition, IMO.

I saw him with Fiona Apple at the Capital theater in NYC. He walked right passed me after the show
Chris signed autographs in the lobby after the show
I bought a t-shirt and a hat. He drew a cartoon on the hat. He stood up and shook my hand and said thanks for coming.

@@jonathanmol4489 That sounds like a blast. Curious about the location as I'm always looking to check out concert venues in and around NYC, especially if they're a bit more intimate than the MSG experience! Are you sure that wasn't at either the Beacon in NYC or the Capitol in Port Chester just outside NYC? I believe the Capitol in Manhattan closed down before Chris was touring. Just want to make sure I'm not missing a potential venue for shows! Either way, jealous that you were able to get his autograph in the lobby.

It's worth mentioning Chris Issak and his band can nail this song EXACTLY as you hear it here live EVERY TIME. And he is funny as hell with his banter between songs. The production and audio engineering of this song are stellar. The bass drum is actually a sample manipulated for the perfect thump and fit in the mix. And the reverb on the guitar is practically three dimensional, like sitting in the middle of a calm lake and watching ripples roll away in concentric circles.

S tier among S tier songs. This is easily in my Top 10 of all time. No lie, the first time I heard this song was with the music video and my GF and I had just broken up and decided to just be friends (and we still are,) and I was watching the video at her house while she was getting dressed as we were going out with friends, and this song and video actually made me cry. It was so haunting and longing and meaningful and beautiful. Chris is SO talented. He had his own series for a bit and it was pretty entertaining. Wanna VERY different take on this? Diana Ankudinova sang this on a Russian talent series a few years ago when she was just 15, and her dark, earthy voice completely took this from hauntingly beautiful to bewitchingly gorgeous. Oh and she only spoke Russian at the time, but learned to sing it in English. Incredible version of this amazing song. Thanks for sharing.

Notice the almost exact repetition of the line, with ONLY ONE letter changed:
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you
where you hear the first line and then for the first five words of the next, you think it's just a repetition ... and then "love" is replaced by "lose" and that one changed consonant makes all the difference in the world.

When the rest of country was sliding into disrepute...a sad caricature of what it used to be, a few people kept the essence of it alive and well. I recommend 'There She Goes' as a follow up...captures the heartbreak of old country exquisitely.

One of the big reasons I pushed for this song in the previous poll (other than being a classic) was that it's the kind of song that gets lost when asking for songs from specific decades. Like it was initially released in the end of the 80s, but became a big hit in 1990, but isn't necessarily something that people think of when they says "80s Music" or "90s Music".
