We set off with our local friend Hoan, to explore, eat our way through, and try the best, most incredible dishes in the city of Hanoi. This is "torture".... not being able to smell and eat it as I watch. Hanoi is just as I remember it ages ago. We stayed in the "old" town area in a "local" hotel avoiding the western style antiseptic bland boring accommodations. I'm a picky eater but in Vietnam every dish was exquisite. So fresh, so tasty, so delicious. What a memory. Thanks Julia and Matt. Hoping Uzbekistan will rival this! Smiling. Linda Merci for this culinary tour!

So so so as I experienced. Cross the street so so slowly and the motorbikes, bikes, cars, carts, just go around YOU. Slow slow slow walking and it works! Brilliant. And a rather "nasty" comment: very rarely ever saw an over weight person in Vietnam... they eat such healthy, non-industrial food and it is so so so delicious. A lesson to be learned around the world!

Julia, well you have an allergy! I have watched your videos for a number of years now and felt so envious that you seem to eat everything. I cannot eat Wheat Gluten or anything with Lactose in it, not a good combination, there are loads of gluten free options and vegan options but very few with GF + Vegan. Oh well I am well overweight so what's the deal, I do envy people who can eat anything though. Still very interesting videos and I think in Hanoi I could eat most foods. Thanks to you Julia, hope Matt returns to normal (maybe even better than normal!!) and I will wait patiently for your next post. Happy Christmas , Graham

Look who missed it! Matt hope you’ve recovered by now. And do be extra cautious with stomach troubles in warm climate, it can turn bad quickly. Rest during illness and strict diet both during and post illness to avoid recurrence.
Is Hoan a professional tour guide, what’s their contact page. Cannot imagine navigating Hanoi and find all the hidden stuff. I thought I knew all about Vietnam food based off UA-cam.

Matt missed a real treat. The Food looked delicious lots of variety. Hope Matt is Feeling better and things are under control. He can always wear an adult Diaper :) watch out when your burping him though.. The sudden diet change possibly was a shock to the system. In Vietnamese..

These tour guide and food guide should educate their people and vendors to keep their streets and places of commerce clean and free of garbage so they can attract more tourists.
As a Vietnamese, it’s frustrating to see the people litter indiscriminately and continue throwing garbage everywhere.
@nocancelcultureaccepted - your repeated trope gets old and so out of place. Look at the world's complimentary sentiment towards VN's food and it's clear that you're nothing but a troll, and a bitter one at that. It's pathetic actually, the same old rant from losers filled with a sense of betrayal.
The changes will gradually happen over time as society evolves. But when it does, much of this will be in the past, possibly never to return in our lifetimes. So take it all in. When it's gone, it's gone...
