I’ve been to those parts, the land is so beautiful I can certainly understand why a man would do what he did, real American history is rife with an untamed spirit and I’m proud as hell that the Lord decided to make me one too! 😊
This story brought back the memory of an old song from the 1950's. "If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, don't pick a pretty woman to be your wife." "From my personal point of view, get an ugly girl to marry you." Many beautiful women are rude, cruel, selfish, thoughtless, self centered, and just plain mean. They don't change their ways, even after they lose their good looks. However, (thank Goodness) not all beautiful women are that way. David should not have set his head on Mary. Without knowing what he was doing, David proved Mary to be correct (by making other people pay for Mary's cold, and cruel rejection and painful words said to him). "Two wrongs never make it right." It would be interesting to learn about what became of cruel, hardhearted Mary.
People like Mary are everywhere their only Love is themselves. In all my years have seen this in many men and women. Sad is that this man became bitter from the rejection of this pathetic self centered woman. He would have been better off to have worked hard to find a truly beautiful woman who had a good hart, and made himself a happier life. So many fall for the appearance of beauty but don't take the time to truly look for real treasure.
Thank you Melissa, it is a complex answer to who was right or wrong, and the story evolves many emotions. It's one of those nuggets from history that has nearly been lost to time, but brought back to life today.
Have read through these comments, and while I appreciate these opinions, I must say that I have a different opinion concerning the lady's response. On the basis of experience I will say that she did what she had to do. If attention is unwanted, the only reasonable response is to speak clearly and with brutal honesty. Nice words will be taken as encouragement. And in these cases false encouragement is unfair to the unwanted person. In my opinion she was the wiser person in this situation. To be "nice" in these situations keeps the unwanted person hanging on. She may even have had enough kindness to think that a brutally honest rejection would provide the other person with a basis for moving on quickly to a suitable relationship. Or she could have percieved that he was somewhat dangerous, and wanted to avoid an accusation related to 'stringing him along". Women can get themselves killed, in that situation. It is far better, to be absolutely clear, even if the words sound harsh. 0:00
While felt some empathy for David's heartbreak, I don't like what he did with it. I've seen people carry a torch for someone their entire life w/o even making it known, due to extenuating circumstances - and that's a mark of true nobility. But then it didn't help that the girl waited so long to let him know he had no chance with her. 'Tween you and me and the gatepost, he was better off w/o her type.
What a sad story! He let a cruel selfish girl (who probably made whoever she married miserable) determine what kind of person he would become. She wasn't worth it.
Damn I've , wanted to go hermit my hole life , grew up on few isolated islands and places around NZ.....id love a small island just few ackers to grow vegetables and raise couple animals, a heap of native trees and being able to build my own little shack from recycled materials and things .....god thats the dream.😢 pity it will never happen, lol I got the plywood shack on a trailer but thats as close as I've gotten so far and i travel around different farms helping people out where i can grow vegetables and keep a couple of animal ( my latest pigs starting to look pretty good).lol and my name's David
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller honestly man I had a pretty good child hood ,kinda like the isolation of the Appalachians . My grandmother used to bake us stuff and cook on this old fire stove,we spent all day when not at school hunting, fishing or working. One island we lived on had Kiwi's nesting under our house and penguins in the woolshed, I got to swim with what wild dolphins , went white water rafting , jumping off waterfalls. I used to walk for miles beach coming looking for cool stuff, Island hopping in helicopters and on boats ....all in remote places of NZ. Lol 🤣 the good old days, but even then all u wanted was some little shack on a little bit of land with ability to get some water and food,be awesome
I grew up near bald mountain, both walked and rode horses across it many times. Another story about the big bald is that in the late 1800 hundreds and early 1900 hundreds each year on the 4th of July people from all around would go to an area near the summit called the big stomp and have a 3 day party with music, dancing, courting, eating, and drinking, ETC. but it came to an end with the advent of the radio and other forms of entertainment. TO BAD .
Very sad that someone with so much positive potential could let a woman like her beat him. Theres a mtn in Allegany co md called Everetts mtn. In colonial times a woman nagged her husband he packed his horse rifle some food n utensils n his rocking chair n dog n rode up on the mtn built a cabin n lived the rest of his day n peace n quiet
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller He could've healed maybe found a decent wife and come to realize the crush was on a shrew, and ended up having a far far better life-> but he turned against Christ & the Scriptures hating God & his neighbor figured the world owed him everything about like a Atheist MarXist Communist...!
Happy Saturday!
Morning Robbie
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller thank you for another great story!
How sad and interesting all in one. I hope and am sure Mary was never a happy woman. Thanks
Thank you Melissa, it is a complex answer to who was right or wrong, and the story evolves many emotions. It's one of those nuggets from history that has nearly been lost to time, but brought back to life today.
These mak great movies 🎬
Thank you !
Thank you for sharing your insight, well said
Good morning JD
❤❤❤love ur stories
Thank you Janice ❤️
I think my favorite parts were the drone shots over the mountains.
Thank you!
'Tween you and me and the gatepost, he was better off w/o her type.
thank you for your thoughts, well said
I love this…and in my way, I identify with him…🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing that ❤️
....he looked out the WINDOW of his hayloft! 🤣😅😂
True Freedom
Yup
What a sad story! He let a cruel selfish girl (who probably made whoever she married miserable) determine what kind of person he would become. She wasn't worth it.
Love can destroy some people
He really took that turn down hard from her for as intelligent as he was
That’s one of the tragic parts of this story
I got my sticker!! Thanks JD.. so how much for one without your picture on it.. 😂😂😂😂
🤣
Damn I've , wanted to go hermit my hole life , grew up on few isolated islands and places around NZ.....id love a small island just few ackers to grow vegetables and raise couple animals, a heap of native trees and being able to build my own little shack from recycled materials and things .....god thats the dream.😢 pity it will never happen, lol I got the plywood shack on a trailer but thats as close as I've gotten so far and i travel around different farms helping people out where i can grow vegetables and keep a couple of animal ( my latest pigs starting to look pretty good).lol and my name's David
Wow 😮
If this is actually true dude is pretty pitiful to let the rejection of one woman change his whole life and cause him to be a hermit
It’s a true story, brother
I grew up near bald mountain, both walked and rode horses across it many times. Another story about the big bald is that in the late 1800 hundreds and early 1900 hundreds each year on the 4th of July people from all around would go to an area near the summit called the big stomp and have a 3 day party with music, dancing, courting, eating, and drinking, ETC. but it came to an end with the advent of the radio and other forms of entertainment. TO BAD .
Wow, thanks for sharing that
There is No Such Thing as

It has to be Purchased.

I love your channel and the rich history in each story. What is the name of the beautiful song within this video?
Without you
At first I was going to say that David dodged the bullet with that girl but he turned out to be a bigger jerk than she could have ever tried to be.
👍🏼
You should do a video on Kan Foster.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
thank you Carrie!
Thanks for sharing this
Wow, I actually felt sorry for him.
❤️
Would you tell me what the name of the song is and who sings it?? I love how you interspliced it into the video.
It’s a song that was made for this channel called without you !
@theAppalachianStoryteller Sir, what's the song with the female voice. Absolutely lovely tune.
It's called without you. It was written for this channel
@TheAppalachianStoryteller if it's available to stream, I'd surely appreciate the link.
David seemed educated for anytime from his yrs of reading as stated and listening every night to his hopeful father inlaw...!
He went around the bend to be an enemy to both God and man full of calloused self righteousness with blatant disregard of everyone else...!
Well said

He could've healed maybe found a decent wife and come to realize the crush was on a shrew, and ended up having a far far better life-> but he turned against Christ & the Scriptures hating God & his neighbor figured the world owed him everything about like a Atheist MarXist Communist...!
Was a very sad tale tho not as bad as the tale of that poor murdered preacher in West Virginia...!
❤
Thank you Sharon!
Have u ever covered the rutherford county line. Sheriff Husky?
