Hello JD! So many missing people that have never been found in the Smokey Mountains, but a young girl with her whole life yet to live gone in the blink of an eye. As many other students around her didn’t see anything, strange. When it comes to your child it’s devastating not to have the answers of what happened and no proper burial. I never let my children go on a field trip without me volunteering as a room mother or following the bus to the destination. Mind you I had my reasons for being so protective of my children. My brother was kidnapped when he was 4 years old from our yard when we lived in Chicago in the early 70’s. Yes, it traumatized me and thankfully he was found by a police officer downtown wandering around because the kidnapper got spooked and let him go. But I will never forget the fear in my mother’s eyes and the police came and took my mother away. I didn’t know they were just taking her to pickup my brother. I was so young and terrified for my brother and now my mother was gone, that’s why I was never going to let my children go somewhere without me. Good stories and keeping their memories alive. Have a blessed weekend JD and everyone!
Protective moms (I'm one!) are just doing our jobs. I'm thankful your brother was returned and that you guarded your children safely. God bless you and yours!

Those were some crazy stories JD!! Lots of questions & not one answered yet! I’m just pretty much in the dark about them all. A young man gives his coat to a girl who disappears…….. a mom whose attitude about her son boggles the mind… and then this elderly woman just disappears!! I’m going to have to tell you in some other media what my theories are. Blessings always my friend! 🙏✝️😊
@TheAppalachianStoryteller I'm wondering about the elderly woman. It reminds me of the women who were on unsolved mysteries who got scammed by con men. As for the girl, I think the teacher did something. The boy I've heard before he shouldn't have been with his mom.
Running the stills this weekend JD, gonna be a lot of your fine story telling getting played at my house over the next few days, this is a great start!
My husband and I are avid backpackers and when we were on a family vacation visiting my cousin in McMinnville TN, we wanted the kids to experience a bit of the Appalachian Mts, so we picked the short hike on Clingman's dome, the exact hike Trini and her class took. Although it was about 15 years ago, I could picture it as you were talking about it. Did anyone check out Robert's whereabouts?
Thank You for this special episode dear JD. Although I know two of these stories, listening to them again was very enjoyable with your great interpretation .🌷
Like Kelly as a young child growing up on a small farm. My twin brother and I would go out and play all morning. But we never missed lunch because my mom would ring a bell letting us know it was it was lunchtime. We would always come running.
I am convinced that someone picked Trini up when she got to 441. That's where her trail stopped right there at that highway. She may have felt like she found her way out and got a ride with someone with bad intentions.
The only way this makes sense if she was actually extremely low intelligence and a drinker. Otherwise, she had a hand in his disappearance and death! Who knows, maybe she sold him.
I really really liked this one!!! You do such an amazing job JD!! Reminded me of the Unsolved Mysteries back in the day. Maybe on the next one, you could wear a fedora and a big raincoat. 😊
No wonder Judy lost custody of her first 2 children...who lets a 6 year old outside for 5 hours,in freezing Temps, without proper dressing...without eating...oh,I'll make myself lunch...unbelievable
Concerning Claude and his wife, as a possible reason for leaving at 2:30 am, it seems possible that they just wanted a private place for sex. Place with thin walls and all those children would have been very un- private for sex. Seems possible that they went out for quick car-sex, and were planning a quick return. They would have trusted the 11 year old with the smaller children. Images of road construction show more than one place for a driver to make a mistake and end up in that lake. At a depth of 200+ feet, that lake could keep a car hidden for 50 years.
@@19Lou77back seat of that big car would not have been too bad. Just seems to me that for a late night run to a store, for snacks, or whatever, one parent would have remained in the house. And if they had been planning something like a meal in some kind of diner, she would have taken her purse, to be prepared for fixing her make up after eating. Ladies never went to places like that without a purse. So what does that leave, as a possibility? She was not going to be needing her purse, because she was not going to be out of that car.
Nothing about Kelly Hollands story makes sense. He was playing outside for 5 hours by himself in the freezing cold. I raised 5 kids, they always wanted to go out in the snow. It would take me a longer period of time for me to bundle them up then they stayed outside! Something isn’t right about mom’s story
Im from Sevier County and 40 years old. Most of the stories and info, i already know of. I must say it doesn't matter, i love every video and all of your content. Your very good at telling these stories! Awesome job my friend!! Til next time stay safe brother and we are waiting for the next video!!!
I dont think Gladys left on her own. What if someone said they would harm her family? Could she have thought her money might buy their safety? Then the blackmailer took her life to prevent being caught? Or perhaps Im wrong and so ran off to Cabo with some rich old geezer? Endless possibilities! Thank you, JD for keeping them all alive in our hearts! God bless!
I call Bullpucky on Kelly's mom Judy. No loving mother lets her little child be out in freezing temperatures for 11 hours. My theory involves the boyfriend very briefly mentioned. Pethaps he was not involved but was her motive, like the modern Susan Smith case? Tell us what you think, please, JD!
1 story: I believe one the male students did something to teen. 2 story: parent met with foul play. But fact the car was never recovered is puzzling. 3 story: the trifling mother definitely did something child. Who leaves small child unsupervised for 8-10 hours. She fed herself dinner but didn’t check on him. Why did she wait to call 911. What human tells a desperate mom to wait until later call 911!!
I believe Trinny fell into culvert. Much under brush cliffs crevices in the mountains. One wrong step and people vanish. I am always brought back to a young mom that went jogging along the same path everyday. And she vanished. Searchers never found her. One morning a hiker with their dog found her remains off the side of a cliff tucked between the cliff and a fallen tree. Her leg was broken in two places and in a weird obscure place unable to crawl out or scream. As the saying goes. Accident by misadventure... Its truly sad when loved ones have no answers. They are in that lake.
Good morning JD. Has anyone thought about opening up these cases to get to the bottom of what happened to these people? With all of the new technology this day and time surly the police can find out what happened to all of these folks..Keep them stories coming i love them.God bless you and your family JD.
Hello JD. I'd still love for you to do a story on Clarence Potter. Here is a little about him and his exploits...He is also some of my kin. Clarence Potter Murder House OUTLAWS IN WATAUGA COUNTY. To say the Potters had a reputation in the mountains is to put it mildly. One Potter woman up in these hills ran off the Yanks with a split rail all by herself! They were tough. You didn't want to get them angry. Clarence was born at Tamarack, North Carolina, near Snake Mountain in Watauga County. His parents were Abraham and Selena (Phillips) Potter. The Potter family had been in the area since the early 1770's. When Clarence first got into trouble with the law, he was only 17. He and his cousin, Boonie Potter had taken some lumber in to a mill. The Constable heard they were bringing down wood and he had a warrant for Clarence's arrest, for shooting and breaking into a home some days prior. It was November 5, 1902. Will Hamby, Joe Wilson, A.W. Howell, and a Snider man formed the posse. They had met the night before and decided to sleep with a family near the mill since the Potters usually came real early. We might mention that the Hamby's were neighbors of Clarence as he grew up there on the mountain. Amos Wellington Howell had been hired just a couple of days earlier. It had been raining and as the warrant was read, Clarence asked if his father could count as a guarantee as he went home to get dry clothes before being locked up. There seems to be some confusion about the true story. Nevertheless, Boonie clucked the mule team into a fast trot and took off, with the warrant still being read by Howell. Howell also had a pistol in his hand. Clarence had one inside his coveralls. He handed it to Boonie. Clarence then threw a rock that struck Howell between the eyes. Boonie fired his gun. Howell died three days later. Boonie fled to Wyoming, where he was arrested and brought back to the Iredell jail a few months later. Clarence was taken directly to jail. Those that sat at his hearing weren't exactly unbiased. He would hang on his 18th birthday, 1903. There had never been a hanging in Watauga County and enough people hated the short-tempered Potters enough to provide one. They were to be disappointed. Clarence somehow managed to hire Will and E.F. Lovill as attorneys and the case was appealed. It seems that the original arrest warrant had been lost. Clarence claimed self-defense. After all, Amos Howell had a gun in his hands pointed at Clarence. Clarence was acquitted. Clarence would go on to kill about 12 men during his life. He even shot his own mother, we are told. It is known that he physically abused both his parents. One man was killed for knocking over a lamp during a dance. Clarence even shot another guy through an outside wall. Clarence killed his neighbor over in Mountain City 30 years later. Elizabeth South-Storie and her brother, Stan, wrote about Clarence, their relative. Storie wrote the book, "My Killing Kin..." Stan wrote, "I Never Killed a Man that Didn't Need Killing." That seemed to be Clarence's excuse. Clarence worked in coal mines in West Virginia for a few years before returning to Fall Branch, near Shoun's Cross Roads in Mountain City, Tennessee. He had served time in prison. From about 1930 through 1965 he made that area his home and you didn't want to be his neighbor.
JD, on another note 📝, have you ever made a video about Nancy Ann Ashworth? I think it would make a very interesting video, if not. She was quite a lady 😳… I really appreciate you sharing these stories! You are definitely a Master Appalachian Storyteller!!
JD Kelly Holland Junior looks like a friend I had in Montgomery West Virginia. He was a neighbor in an apartment building on the eighth floor, his name was Eddie Rhodes. he had an opportunity to have his own place on a mountain in West Virginia, so he moved several years before I did I do not recall the name of the mountain further south next word I got several years later that Eddie died of a heart attack. I hope this info helps. He was a good person and neighbor.
I believe thr Sheldon couple met with foul play. The broken down vehicle would very likely have been where it happened. They didn't abandon their children. Sounds like they were too solid as a family. The assumed route they would have taken wasn't all near the water and the dam was still under construction. Any spots at the time where they could have run off the road would have made the search area smaller since it was still a river.
Adventures with a Purpose may want to check out that lake....they have modern equipment and a fine track record of locating missing vehicles in water. Just a thought.
I love this channel. Love the stories. This one was hard though. But loved the Brady bunch house and station wagon picture. 😂 foul play is my guess with all the missing people. Is my guess. Maybe someone watching can solve one of these mysteries? Hopefully 🙏🏻
I've heard of this story before. But not about the stalker, the boy who left her on the trail or the teacher not revealing the destination before hand.
Gladys was swindled and it's a good possibility the family knew the culprit. They knew she would sell the farm and probably had a part in her meeting the buyer. They had a great deal of influence on her. I don't believe she was prepared to leave right after taking the 80 thousand dollars out of the bank. The mystery person either forced her to go or used their influence on her to leave with them. I'd like to know more about her case.
I believe they are in the lake and have just never been found. Over the years there would be alot of silt build up and their car and them could be buried in that silt and that would make it hard for them to be found.
With the Gibson girl it sounds like she was abducted. The dogs did track her back to the highway. The only thing unclear is her disappearing from the middle of the group. October brings a lot of visitors to the park to view the fall colors. Even in 1976 that was enough to attract a criminal element looking for an opportunity.
Another good video. With the boy, I'd like to think who ever got him bribed him with a much better life as other story's have gone. The last story makes me wonder if they questioned the new owners of the farm as anybody was seen with her during the sale. She must have been threatened with death or for her family to keep quiet but I have a feeling she's a goner.
the truck driver probably fell asleep at the wheel…caused the couple in car to end up in lake…and truck driver didn’t tell the truth cause it was his fault 🤷🏼♀️
In Kelly’s case, how you gonna leave your kid outside ALL day in the cold and snow, then just eat your dinner like nothing happened??? I’ve always suspected the mother in this case.
I think Trenny fell from where she was last seen bent over looking at something. The path was narrow with cliff on either side. She most likely hit her head right away and it either knocked her out or killed her instantly. And because it was the autumn season with lots of foliage her dark clothing would have blended in. The dogs couldn't pick up her scent because of her suddenly leaving the trail. It had been 2 years since the stalking incident. I think the boy now was over it. And like you said in 1976 the times were different. As long as the school staff knew where the teacher was taking the kids it was OK. If the teacher told the kids where they were going some may have ditched the class. Making it a surprise guaranteed all the kids would be there. My heart goes out to her family. It is awful not knowing what happened to her.
JD, I love to hate mystery videos. So many possibilities, so many questions. They frustrate me because in some cases, SOMEBODY knows exactly what happened, and they never spoke up. Im sure they didn't what the truth to he known. But its still frustrating. It just shows that there are and seemingly always have been evil people in this world. Some mysteries may have been simple mistakes turned tragic... But still frustrating.. anyway, your ability to tell these stories amaze me. Have a good night!
Re Trenny Gibson. I live in East Tennessee. You can walk into the woods for one minute to pee and get so twisted up, dis oriented that you’ll never in a million years find the trail again.
You are an amazing storyteller. I hope these families eventually get answers.
These stories remind me of my dad, who has passed away.
Thank you for the bit of joy during the holiday season ❤

Sounds like they were too solid as a family. The assumed route they would have taken wasn't all near the water and the dam was still under construction. Any spots at the time where they could have run off the road would have made the search area smaller since it was still a river.
Thanks for the stories JD.
Thank you 😊
What an AWESOME video!!!!!!!
Thanks so much!!
Love a good mystery.
What a nightmare for her parents and family. Poor girl.
Very interesting and sad stories , thank you .
Adventures with a Purpose may want to check out that lake....they have modern equipment and a fine track record of locating missing vehicles in water. Just a thought.
I'm referring to the Claude and Sue Shelton case.
I love this channel. Love the stories. This one was hard though. But loved the Brady bunch house and station wagon picture. 😂 foul play is my guess with all the missing people. Is my guess. Maybe someone watching can solve one of these mysteries? Hopefully 🙏🏻
🤣
This was a great story. So so sad
I've been to the dome on a Easter Sunday cold and very windy frost on everything
Loving your stories brother 👊 Respect! London 🏴👊🙏🏴
Much appreciated!
You have a beautiful voice
Awww, thank you ❤️
The Holland boy was likely a victim of someone in the neighborhood . They were watching and saw an opening when his mother went to use the phone.
I've heard of this story before. But not about the stalker, the boy who left her on the trail or the teacher not revealing the destination before hand.
Such strange stories. We have some very strange missing people stories here in Oregon.
3 more great stories
Gladys was swindled and it's a good possibility the family knew the culprit. They knew she would sell the farm and probably had a part in her meeting the buyer. They had a great deal of influence on her. I don't believe she was prepared to leave right after taking the 80 thousand dollars out of the bank. The mystery person either forced her to go or used their influence on her to leave with them. I'd like to know more about her case.
I believe they are in the lake and have just never been found. Over the years there would be alot of silt build up and their car and them could be buried in that silt and that would make it hard for them to be found.
Missing child..
Either she or her NEW boyfriend killed him or both..
He was driven away and him playing outside all day NEVER happened.....
Thank you jd God bless you ❤🎉
You are so welcome!
Those were sad stories but I was wondering? Who bought glades farm? Gb❤ JD.
Damn it Gladys! This feel like the origin of Catfishing.
In the second video I ðo believe the parents sunk or in accident that can't be seen. They would never leave their children!
💜
Another good video. With the boy, I'd like to think who ever got him bribed him with a much better life as other story's have gone. The last story makes me wonder if they questioned the new owners of the farm as anybody was seen with her during the sale. She must have been threatened with death or for her family to keep quiet but I have a feeling she's a goner.
the truck driver probably fell asleep at the wheel…caused the couple in car to end up in lake…and truck driver didn’t tell the truth cause it was his fault 🤷🏼♀️
Wow 😮
🤔
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! ❤️ 😊
JD and Sara hey 👋
Did you sneak in a picture of the Brady bunch house @ 17:39 on your video?
🤣
JD, I love to hate mystery videos. So many possibilities, so many questions. They frustrate me because in some cases, SOMEBODY knows exactly what happened, and they never spoke up. Im sure they didn't what the truth to he known. But its still frustrating. It just shows that there are and seemingly always have been evil people in this world. Some mysteries may have been simple mistakes turned tragic... But still frustrating.. anyway, your ability to tell these stories amaze me. Have a good night!
I cannot imagine not checking on my child out in freezing cold or even letting him go out. That place is suspicious. I think her boyfriend knows .
If she sold the farm Who bought the it ?
Re Trenny Gibson. I live in East Tennessee. You can walk into the woods for one minute to pee and get so twisted up, dis oriented that you’ll never in a million years find the trail again.
Was it a ‘61 galaxy
Or was it a ‘67 galaxy
Heard one in the beginning the other in the end
Sad!
You should do a story on Robin Stone, Cambridge Ohio, Guernsey County
His mother killed him
