I love this recipe. One change I've made is that I just spread the mixture out on parchment paper and cut it into squares or bars. They pack in containers better and I like the look better. Thank you for your nice tutorial!

I cut mine into squares also. That's how my mom always did it. Its so much easier and you don't have to worry about the candy getting to dried out and crumbly before you're done dipping it out

I am diabetic and used Splenda 2 cups instead of white sugar, I'm the only one who will eat oatmeal in my house, I put the cookies on the foil, put them on a large cookiesheet and froze them then put them in a large freezer bag , this seems to freeze well. I just eat them frozen. Good recipe though I do think next time I'll add a bit of vanilla.

These came out good ! But not exactly like my mom used to make , but I couldn’t figure out what was missing , turns out it was the same recipe, only she added a tablespoon of vanilla extract with the peanut butter!

I use half cup evaporated milk and 3 teaspoons of cocoa, stick of butter, 2 cups of sugar, 3 cups old fashioned oats, boil on medium high for 2:30 min, half cup of JIF peanut butter, and a teaspoon of vanilla…that’s my grandma’s recipe and I made these for my son and wife tonight…their favorite by far..everytime I make these I think of her. Miss ya mawmaw❤
If it’s dry at the end just splash it with some milk and it turns out perfect 👍

when they dont set up right, bcz a kitchen witch dropped by or who knows, no worries, we eat it with spoons and love every bite !! parchment paper or buttered wax paper works better than foil to cool faster. def need to add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract , a pinch of salt and pnut butter is optional.

I allow it to come to a rolling boil but instead of removing it at the end of a minute, I allow it to stay on the burner albeit off but still hot and u know what happens.my cookies continues to cook an dry out and become unusable. So now I will try again. Thank u!

    • @Fantabulosity

Yay! I hope you get the chance to try them again, and this way! We've been making them like this for years. Every once in a while, say... once every 5 years, we'll accidentally make a bad batch. (Leaving them on the burner too long, haha!) But they turn out the majority of the time and are so good! :) Good luck!

SO, if I'm understanding correctly, bring to, & let boil for a few moments, then remove from heat, rather than bring to a boil, turn off heat, but leaving mixture on a cooling burner, yields different outcomes...?

@@ashleygonzalez9471 You can easily cut down to 1 1/4 cup maybe even 1 cup sugar but the sugar is needed to create the overall tetxure and bulk IMO. Perhaps (don't know tho) a cup for cup ratio of a proper sugar substitute may work however see sugar substitute manufacturers own recipes for that info.

I can never get these to set properly. I've tried 1 minute boil, 1 1/2, even 2 minutes and they are still runny.

Oh interesting! So, I don't know if this will help... but when I turn the burner on, I turn it to medium-high heat. I don't stir it at all, until the entire pan is a rolling boil. THEN, I start the 1 minute timer. I think sometimes, some may start the 1 minute timer when it begins to boil. I hope that helps!

@@Fantabulosity Thanks, yeah that might be why. Every recipe says to start the timer when it starts to boil and your probably right, I should wait a little longer and shouldn't stir it. Thanks!

Is there a way to make these without using so much sugar? I'm trying to watch my girlish figure. 😃
