- In this video I will go over some of the changes and updates in Camtasia 2023. We will look at what's new in 2023 so that you can decide if the upgrade is worth it to you.
UPDATE: Camtasia changed the subscription model in June 2024, and it is now a yearly fee instead of an upfront cost and optional maintenance.

Once you import that old library(ies), how do you organize it all?
Hi Dale, there is no one answer because it really depends on how you like to organize your assets. What I do is I have the 2023 and the 2022 library as a separate line item in my collection. Then as time permits I go find the things I will use most often and then send a copy to my UA-cam or Work library. I also have a library for sound effects and music to make them easier to find when needed. 90% of my work is done out of the UA-cam library. The one thing I find is there is soooo much in the Camtasia standard one I don't want to lose track of how I found a thing, which is why I move the ones I like to a centralized location. Hope that makes sense.

I have been using camtasia for many years.
Until recently, it used the 2022 version.
I started using camtasia 2023 and I really missed the old rendering patterns.
In the past, it was very easy to put a watermark on the video.
In camtasia 2023, in the default rendering mode I didn't see a way to do this.
And there is a message stating that later this year, camtasia 2023 will no longer work in the old rendering mode.
Can you give me some guidance?

Hi you can put a watermark using the Legacy Rendering but each time you do you will see a message saying that it will eventually be removed. Not sure why.
Camtasia when you create a video with Camtasia
I noticed that the video has the file name in the video, how can I remove it? Is there a setting for that?
If you are seeing the video name as a watermark on the actual footage after you export it, you can turn off in the export settings provided you are not using a trial version of the software. However, the only place I know to see that setting is to use legacy local file when exporting.
Should have the feature to over lap vidos for transition on the time line
There are a lot of transitions and adding an extra track is no issue. This may be a lack of imagination on my part but I don't see why that cannot happen. I just did not talk about transitions in this video either last year or the year before they added like 100 transitions to use. I picked my favorite 4 and forgot about the rest :) I am sure there is a technical reason behind your comment that I just don't understand.
My 2 questions... Did they fix any of the performance issues that 2022 seems to have? It gets laggy when have lots of edits - even in a short video. Also, I've never had Camtasia crash so much as it has in 2022 (usually when working with mouse paths). Which leads me to my second question - Have they made a way to have the mouse cursor on it's own track in the timeline? There are times when I have to put an image on the screen - and I'd like my custom mouse path to go ON TOP of the image - but it always goes UNDER the image. I know there are some wonky work arounds - but you'd think there would be an easier way (like in Captivate). Thanks! :)
Hi Mike. I also experienced performance issues with 2022 and was really not happy that my employer made me stay with the tool. But in the 2023 version I have only had a crash one time. It can still be a bit lag when I have a very long video but not near as bad as before. The mouse cursor is still on the same timeline as the raw footage. At first I thought I would love the cursor corrections but have found them too tedious to manage. What I do is put one of the cursor images like the hand pointing cursor on the top track and then use custom animation to make it move in a controlled way. Sometimes I event do that when I have a slide but don't want people to be bored when nothing is happening on the slide. The trick is the slide or video is on track one and my cursor is usually on track 3. I don't know if there is an easier way but it is what works for now :)

Hi Camtasia is a single purchase that you can make once and then keep that version until they stop supporting it (Usually about 10 years). In the first year the maintenance program comes with the purchase. This means you get the upgrade for the next year. Example buy 2023 and get 2024 upgrade included. After that you can choose to pay a yearly maintenance fee to get access to priority support, training library, and the next years upgrade. Last I looked that cost $59 USD a year but it totally optional. I get it because the maintenance fee is cheaper than buying the upgrade. For example this year for the $59 I got a $135 dollar upgrade. I have a look for the cost for the bundle I wanna know when I get it do I need anymore editing software? Do I still need loom to share screen...
On cam I only use it on UA-cam, can ?

@@YourTimeToMove-hi1ed No Audiate is an extra price and can be paid monthly or yearly. They may have a bundle where it comes with it for the first year but after that you keep paying for Audiate.
@@YourTimeToMove-hi1ed Camtasia is all I use for editing. It comes with a screen capture tool built in and a lot of included assets. That being said, it really depends on what you are trying to do. I do tutorials as so this tool is a one stop shop for me. Someone doing cinematic stuff may feel the need for other tools. The videos will export to an MP4 file and you can put that file anywhere you want. I use camtasia for my work videos too.
I love the camtasia features. But I hate how many resources it takes up on my computer (and I have a REALLY good computer). Even a short 10 minute video causes so much lag when working in camtasia that is it literally unusable. And camtasia will often (nearly 80% of the time) totally mess up the synch of my audio and video when I do screen recordings so that my mouth and the audio are not lined up. I make a lot of videos and just had to stop using camtasia because it would literally add hours to my editing time. Disappointing to leave camtasia, been using it for 4 years. But just not up to the level of use that I need.
Hi Steve, I hear you. The longest video I can do is about 30 minutes. But for now that works for what is required for my job. What software are you thinking of switching to? Curious.
Camtasia desperately needs better audio effects, and the ability to reverse clips.
I don't know a lot about audio but that tab does seem lite on features. They have more features in Audiate which is $300 per year. That is too much in my opinion but maybe it is because I don't really know a lot about audio.

Hi, if there is a watermark it is because you are on the trial version or it needs to be turned of in the export settings. If you are on the trial version there is no way to turn it off except to purchase the software. Techsmith does not offer a free version. If you are looking for free software, I hear DaVinci Resolve has a fairly robust one but I do not know how to use that one.

Hi Camtasia does not have a free version of the software. However, once you purchase a software key you can keep that version without paying again. You do not need to upgrade each year like I choose to. My boss has not upgraded hers since she bought it in 2017. If someone tells you there is a free for live version it is a scam.
