    If Techsmith invested half as much into the actual VIDEO EDITING capabilities as they do into unnecessary kiddie effects, they just might replace our need for Adobe Premiere Pro. :(
    We've been asking for 2x and 3x timeline playback, and editing-on-the-fly for over a decade. Premiere introduced it almost 15 years ago!
    And for a truly hands-off-the-mouse approach to editing? Well, someone using Premiere will complete the job in 1/4 the time (if they are slow) thanks to the finely finessed keyboard domination of Premiere.
    Prove us wrong in 2024, Techsmith.

  • @Dotcito
    @Dotcito Рік тому +41

    It seems very good to me to add new elements for the cursor. But, they should also give priority to the text option. It is far below any other video editor and I feel this is one of the most important points to touch up, first. The personalization of the text (being able to add stroke, gradient, exterior splendor and several other elements).
    With what it currently has, it falls short, many times I have had to create these elements with Photoshop and in addition to taking time. It is assumed that in the creation of content the text is essential in the first seconds depending on the content, adding an extra section of animation since with the behaviors many times the product does not come out as desired.

    Congratulations on the new additions. As a user who has been using Camtasia for more than 10 years, I must advise you that Camtasia has more effects on the transition of images or videos. Animations that make the final video look much more dynamic. I think I'm content with Camtasia and I always have to resort to putting images with a zoom because there are hardly any effects, and those that exist apart from the zoom effect are not very dynamic and very different from the zoom effect.

    Using a handful of video and audio editing softwares over 90 percent of my videos were made with a mix of Camtasia, Sony Vegas, Adobe After Effects, Blender, Gimp, Audacity, OBS and a few others to make my content and Art.
    However, Camtasia is my PRIMARY video editing software, is the the soul reason I was able to make first seven yeats of content on this channel and get to where I am today.
    Camtasia is THE video editing software to use.
    Of couse all editing software are even better when used with other software. But Camtasia is the PRIMARY editing software that anyone needs first and foremost in their studio.
    Most people anyway. There are always exceptions. But for me personally, and I'd say most others too, Camtasia is the number one choice and the first option for making content. Camtasia is 420 percent better than Sony Vegas AND Adobe Premier, WITHOUT QUESTION. 💯

    As a 10 year Camtasia user & UA-camr, 2 requests:
    1) TEXT - Pop up text is essential for shorts. With Camtasia 2021 I can't put an outline around my text. It would be great if it auto-generated word by word like you see in so many shorts today. I recently heard of a program called Captionator that does this.
    2) Video effects - At the moment, I pretty much just use zoom as an affect. I see other UA-camrs use effects to shake a camera, wobble, or do other interesting things to keep a view engaged.
    3) Reversible videos - Have a way to play or convert video in reverse. At the moment I have to find an external website to do this for me.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  7 місяців тому

      You can actually do 1 and 3 with Camtasia 2023!
      1. If you apply the border effect and check "use alpha", it will snap the border to the edges of the text giving you an outline.
      3. In the media bin, you can right click a video to create a reversed copy of it.
      We hope this helps!

    • @davidconnelly
      @davidconnelly Рік тому

      @@techsmith If it's a legitimate request then here's two for starters: They're both to do with video players and web pages. REQUEST 1). The video player that comes with Camtasia should have 'low', 'medium' and 'high' res options. The video player should accept (via JavaScript) an array of three video URLs for each of the different resolutions. This means that videos would be able to play from somewhere like AWS and users would have the ability to stream at a resolution that suits their device. REQUEST 2). The HTML page that gets rendered could do with a note taking feature. The idea being that somebody could watch a tutorial (for example) then hit stop, take some notes about a particular section and have those stored stored and displayed with dates and timestamps. I realise that these are not to do with the actual editor but that would be my suggestions. BIGGEST SUGGESTION: Of course, my absolute biggest suggestion would be to please give us a version of Camtasia that works on Linux. I like Linux but I'm not able to use Linux precisely and ONLY because I can't get Camtasia on Linux. Your company's decision to not offer a Linux compatible version has cost me fortunes because I keep having to buy Apple gear and Windows gear that I simply don't want.

      @@matrixate On PC, you can do Ctrl + Scroll to zoom in on the timeline, wherever the playhead is.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  Рік тому +1

      @@matrixate You can customize the keyboard shortcuts. Go into the Settings panel, then the Shortcuts tab. Under "Timeline Navigation" you'll see "Zoom In," "Zoom Out," "Zoom to Fit" and "Zoom to Max."
      I used to be a final cut pro editor so I customized mine to match "Shift +Z" but some of our Premiere users like "\" to match.
      This may not be exactly what you're looking for as I don't believe we have a combo with the scroll wheel, but they should be set as a default to the minus & equal signs (which also has a plus sign on the key...so it's "+" & "-").

    Great update. Best in a while. Props to the dev and design team. I do have to echo what another commenter said though about more options for titles. They’re a huge part to video editing and motion graphics. I end up having to use After Effects and have to import them in. Even just the animation easing i.e. being able to change the velocity of the text animation to really get the pro industry look when it comes to titles.
    Would also be cool to have Rotato features like 3D mock-ups to show off Apps/UI in an engaging way.
    Finally in the future, would love to see better integration with plugins and templates from sites like Motion Array and Artlist. At that point you’ve got yourself a Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere killer, purely for Camtasia’s ease of use.

      @YashvirGamingZen 2560x1440 is definitely a preset in Camtasia 2023 Project Settings. But even if it wasn't, we offer the ability to choose a custom size in the Project Settings.
      If you're referring to when you export your video, you can change the "Dimensions" setting in the Options menu to "Current" (which I believe is the default anyway) and it will export 2560x1440 if that's how you are editing in. You should be all set. app.screencast.com/gkRRY2VkgdzmN

      The Filters are actually preinstalled Color LUTs themselves. And you can only do one at a time. However, one work around would be to right-click the clip with the first filter on it, select "Group" (even if it's alone) and then add a second filter to that Group.
      As for selecting & deleting tracks, the only way to do it that I'm aware of is to right-click the track and select "Remove All Empty Tracks" which obviously might not be what you're looking for. I'll pass this idea on to our dev team!

    Sorry Joe I tried and tried to use the Cursor Path Creator and had no luck. I created 1, 2, & 3 graphics from steps in Snagit and imported. Then placed them on my video/time line and I could not get them to connect with my graphics (1,2,3). I will go and see if I can find a video that maybe gives more details as I know I am missing something.

    I moved away from AE and Pr to make simple edits faster with camtasia and enjoy it. I won't need to upgrade as the current cursor is sufficient and I don't want to add motion tangents, pin deformations etc into my camtasia workflow. Honestly the previous version is great for my quick and simple needs. I'll export any bespoke effect from the other programs where required and pop them into camtasia.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  Рік тому +1

      That's one of the great things about Camtasia (in our oh-so-humble opinion). You don't HAVE to upgrade. If you're happy, keep your current version! Even if you did upgrade, you'd STILL own 2022 if you wanted to go back to it. 2023 doesn't have to be a replacement.
      As a tip, if you think you will upgrade in the future, keeping your Maintenance agreement up-to-date is FAR cheaper than paying the upgrade (or New) price. So you could, without downloading 2023, still renew your Maintenance with us now, and get 2024 free when it comes out later.
      Again, you don't have to though. Just a financial tip. :)

      @imoyal Рік тому

      I'll try to be a little more specific.
      I know that many types of tutorials can be created using Camtasia.
      However, is there a plugin or a feature that enables adding and editing mathematical equations in a tutorial, so that text effects can be applied to them.
      I've been waiting for such a feature for quite some time, having purchased the maintenance program for some years now, upgrading the app, but such a feature is still missing.
      So currently, I have to write the equations in MS Word (or some other math app) and use simple print-screen to copy them.
      Unfortunately, all of the text effects that Camtasia delivers can not be applied to that picture, making the editing process tedious.

    I have been using Camtasia since version 6 and here are the things I would like to see: The mouse pointer options are all great, but with videos that go, for example, 13 minutes, it takes a really long time until, for example, mouse pointer clicks with a ring effect are available (for me, the PC then hangs for almost 5 minutes, even though I have a really damn good PC). I would also like to define all the mouse pointers that I always have in all videos once in the configuration and not again in every video. I work a lot in Photoshop and record it. Then it's a horror to redefine it every time.
    Under Audio Effects -> Audio Compression there are always problems with the export that the sound is terrible afterwards (but perfect in the editing window).
    I would like to be able to desaturate only the face of the skin, for example. I would also like to sharpen videos. I don't have all that and have to use Premiere for that. It would also be great to have the option of removing all inhalation noises with a click, because I always have to cut that separately and it is very time-consuming.
    It would also be great to have standard sound effects like wiping from one image to another, which is almost standard for UA-cam videos.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for these suggestions! I'll pass them to our dev teams internally and make sure you're heard. We do have desaturation under the Color Adjustment visual effect, but if you're specifically saying for just one area, that'd be a little more complicated currently. And while I don't think you can set a new default cursor for Camtasia as a whole, in the new Cursor controls you can tell it just to use one cursor throughout the entire video, but it sounds like you know that too.
      Like I said, I'll pass these ideas on the team, thanks!

      @@techsmith Wow what a quick answer. Thank you so much! I think that an extremely large number of people will approve of my ideas and will be very happy if they are implemented. I love Camtasia because it's so simple and editing videos is so much more fun than in Premiere. If a few more of the desired functions are added, I won't be able to stop raving about it. By the way, it would be great if you would also allow plug-ins. I really like to use the audio improvements through AI from crumplepop and then always have to go through the hassle of exporting as audio and then importing again. That would be much better with a plug-in, or you can integrate the noise removal and reverb removal with AI yourself, because that doesn't work very well yet, unfortunately.

    Excellent! I could really have used the background remover in my last 2022 video! And it looks like the mouse path editing has been improved - that really was an excellent feature. I am abusing this comment to mention my biggest pain point in the product and make a suggestion for an AI feature in the next release.
    Biggest pain point is the selection mechanism. Shift > and Shift < should increase or decrease the selection at the point where video head is. Today it only increases the selection jumping the video head to the other side of the selection - there is no way to deselect a frame (without the mouse). In all text editors Shift → and Shift ← only operates where the cursor is, Camtasia should behave the same. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FIX IT.
    If you are looking for some nice AI to add, consider an object removal tool - these exist for photo editors and it should be an interesting addition to the video editing environment.

    Background removal would be a really useful feature for me. I currently use some other software (XSplit VCam) to do this, but being able to do it in one place would be much easier. I tried it out and I know this feature is in beta at the moment, but for me the results it produced were unusable. It was like a really soft mask that sort of tracked the movement, but also lagged it quite a lot and was nowhere near accurate enough to use in a final video at the moment. This will be a great feature if you can make it work.

    Suggestion: This is GREAT! I always look forward to updates. I'd like to suggest that you focus a little more on the AUDIO side of the house. I have to learn Audacity just to have a simple graphic equalizer. This week, I'm doing an aviation video and I just want the audio dialog to sound like it's over a radio. Any public safety videos could also use this feature. Adding some interesting audio effects would be HUGE for me.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  Рік тому

      While we may do some audio updates in the future, a lot of our teams audio effots have been focused on our sister product Audiate (audiate.com) to enhance that software as well. And Camtasia and Audiate work great in conjunction together too, so you can send your clip from Camtasia to Audiate, make edits, add effects, and send back to Camtasia and it will re-sync your video with the audio cuts & edits you made.

      Camtasia 2022 isn't less money. We only offer purchases of the current version, however, if you buy that, you'll have the ability to download previous versions here with your license key: www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

      We no longer sell Camtasia 2022. It's still available for anyone with a 2022 or 2023 key for compatibility reasons, but we don't offer it for sale.

    Editing the cursor size, the cursor path and cursor image are available in Camtasia 2022. Why are these previously released cursor features mentioned in this "See what's New in Camtasia 2023" video?

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  Рік тому

      This video is targeted particularly at users who haven't upgraded from Camtasia 2021 & previous versions to that (2020, 2019, et al). Anyone using Camtasia 2022 gets this update for free with their Maintenance and wouldn't need as much convincing, so we were showing older users what they've been missing (and many of the effects like Cursor Color and some of the controls weren't released until the very last 2022 update, which not everyone downloaded either). You're not wrong about the cursor, but that's also not the only thing Joe showed off here.

      @@techsmith Thank you for the quick response. I do understand. Not everyone upgraded to 2022 and I can see now how this video would be of benefit for those that are on an earlier release.

    I just wish that Camtasia would return support for 32-bit video files. I get content created as QuickTime animation and AVI files with embedded alpha, and when I take it into Camtasia and use the COLOR REMOVAL tool, I get less than stellar results. I also get snide comments from the Camtasia fanboi who tell me I don't know how to use it. I have been using Camtasia since 2004, and do know better. Frankly, Camtasia 8 was a better product, but I am forced to use the latest version to stay compatible with the current co-worker configurations.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  Рік тому

      Sorry to hear your disappointment. We don't plan to return support for 32-bit to my knowledge though. If your color removal is coming out less than ideal, what's worked for me (Andy here) is adding a second color removal to it to pick both a highlight and lowlight area. The way to do it is to first use the color removal on the original clip as always, but then Group that clip (without any additional clips in the group) and you can add a second color removal to the group. Hopefully that helps.
