- Burning Road (バーニング ロード) is a 1996 racing game developed by Toka for the Sony PlayStation. The game, at least superficially, resembles Daytona USA.

the music in this game is really good.
Without Tanekobu Mitsuyoshi, there's just something missing...
The soundtrack does try to imitate in some ways, only it ends up sounding more cheesy, heh.

I actually really like this game. It's no DAYTONA but it's still fun in my opinion. The soundtrack is cool too.
"Play-Tona" Toka/ Playmates Interactive take on mixing aspects of the pc game Screamer and Daytona USA, almost as good as Daytona but lacking some of the goofy charm due to the soundtrack.
The racing is sold , though thankfully this game does have an alternate soundtrack.
Daytona has better gameplay, by far. There's nothing more satisfying than gear drifting. But yeah, Burning Road is definitely fun in its own right.
No arguments there, ,while this game is definitely no Daytona , I kinda feel it was a good racer that got lost n the shuffle.
I had no idea the PlayStation 1 had a Daytona USA knockoff. This one is amusing!

Heh. Let's be honest. In terms of graphics, this game does LOOK better than Daytona on Saturn. The art style isn't great, but the models are more detailed, plus there's real-time lighting and weather effects.
Those lightning flashes looked crazy impressive for a '96 PSX game!
Yeah, the saturn daytona wasn't anything close to a technical marvel, even though it still holds up in the gameplay section. I get the feeling all those launch titles were rushed out the door.
Still they managed to improve the graphics with the CCE and CE editions but somehow bonked the car physics, not even the CE version nails it completely. The cars look pretty uninteresting in that as well.
It's pretty funny how this game is so unapologetic in ripping off Daytona though, down to the goddamn HUD. They were probably aiming for the confused dads demographic.
Gotta wonder how Daytona might've turned out if AM2 hadn't also been working on Virtua Racing Deluxe and Virtua Fighter for the 32X around the same time.
Yeah, the first track in particular is pretty much Dinosaur Canyon. Canyon walls, windmills, the tunnel, and the identical rock overhang that comes just before DC's final turn. Also the single lyric music, heh.
Not sure about Virtua Fighter but Virtua Racing Deluxe's dev is listed as "CS Team" in segaretro. Still it's no secret AM2 were overworked during the Saturn era, always juggling multiple projects. Those guys truly weren't allowed a breathing moment, it's a miracle they managed to get anything done.
Really enjoyable Arcade Racer. Explosive Racing is good as well.
It's nowhere near as good as Daytona, but it's still fun in its own right. That rubber band AI though... It's some of the worst I've ever seen in a racing game.
Yeah and the soundtrack is totally bitchin, especially in Explosive Racing

SEGADriven.com Tried that game. Short and easy and offers that arcade fun on console. Its sequel, Rally de Europe is bloody hard tho.
It would be nice if you mentioned this was made using pcsxr-pgxp.
