This remake is cool, and the graphics seriously look really superior for the Sega Dreamcast as they even fit modern gaming quite well. If I ever get a Sega Dreamcast at some point in the future, I'll have to play this version of this game. Great job on this video!
It's the rock solid framerate and also being released in December 2000, they were probably using an updated development kit. Too bad Sega pulled the plug just a couple months after. Would've been really cool to see more graphical updates on first party games.
He's also likely using an emulator (titles says 1080p while the Dreamcast natively output 480p) so he's upscaling it which can make Dreamcast games a bit better.
The Holy Meme King - LOL, I just posted this on a video of a Saturn version of Daytona. A big group of us always went to Dave & Busters in Solihull, UK on an afternoon for the cocktail happy hour. We were all under 21, which was an issue as D & B was one of the only places in UK which had higher age of entry - usually 18 in UK. The place was HUGE. Huge pool hall, casino, the old VR gaming cubicles & the rows of Sega rally & Daytona. That "Daaaytoooonaaaa" call was a trademark sound of any trip to Dave & Busters or decent arcade in the 90s. Kids now will never get the thrill of seeing the latest coin op arrive at their local arcade, cinema or bowling alley. Ah, the memories!
They still have them at some D&B's - My D&B's(Hilliard, OH) finally took the 8-Player Daytona USA out in February for a 4-Player Crusin' BLAST. I much rather prefer Daytona. Always a classic.

This was a great version of Daytona - loved it. I'd love to see an HD re-release just as the original has enjoyed. I remember being blown away that I couldn't see any pop-in and naively thinking that those days were behind us....shame.
What were those nascar games when you wrecked an totaled the car. The safety crews an wreckers would pop up? I remember playing that game as a kid an can't remember what it was to save my life
Some really great driving! Too bad this version of Daytona never made it to any other platform. It is one of the games I really missed after selling my Dreamcast. Still looks great today. BTW great video quality!
Man I get tingles when I hear that Daytoooona song. Its the best race track in the game with a catchy tune. Somebody needs to re-release this and the first couple of sega Rally games. Heck Sega should do and AM2 collection. The nostalgia is real now and they should be striking while the iron is hot.
@LEX LUTHOR The game initially launched without an H-shifter. No nonsequential shifting means no gear drifting, which is completely unacceptable. And while they did eventually start producing the cabs with the correct stick, you can tell they never did any testing with the gear drifting mechanic because going 4-2-4 doesn't work half the time and the first and last big turns in the expert courses are nearly impossible to gear drift through. The cabs also launched with a massive dead zone in the wheel. This has been fixed somewhat, but there's still more dead zone there than I'd like. None of the music in the game is new. Most of it was repurposed from Circuit Edition and 2001. Even the Daytona International music is just a remix Mitsuyoshi produced like five or six years ago. Most of the new tracks are just mirror versions of the originals. They couldn't even be bothered design anything original.
They should have just re-released this. The original arcade is good and all but the 2001 has so much features. And I wish they rereleased DUSA 2, god, they probably forgot about that game.
I made a comment on this video three years ago saying how the music isn't as good as the arcade original. The remixed tracks in this game while yes, not as good as the OG arcade tracks still hold value as really great VG tunes. I came back to this game recently through DC emulation and honestly this game is amazing. I do wish the control was a bit better. But other then that I really think its an absolutely great version of the game. But obviously the 360/PS3 release is the true way to play it.
I honestly don’t know what Genki were thinking when they decided to ship this game with so poor analog stick setup. Can’t believe no one at AM2 or Sega had this corrected. Hornet is almost ok but Lightning and Unicorn cars are just a pain to control. Not fun at all. A pitty cause this has all the ingredients to be a great game.
Found my fingers on my right hand twitching on those downshifts and trigger releases in each track's corners -- and I haven't played this game again since 2008! Thanks for the nostalgia trip, and great driving!
Honestly this version of Daytona is the definitive one. Forget the original on the Sega Saturn, or the championship edition, or the fan remakes on PC/Android/whatever, and I don't know if you can emulate the original arcade version but even if you can forget that one too; the control setup will be too finicky. Just play this one. It has better graphics, more tracks, more modes including time attack w ghost cars, mirrored tracks, etc., and analog controls/steering.
The definitive version of Daytona is on 360/PS3. This one could have been the best, but Genki botched the gamepad controls. Tweaking in the options menu won't fix it because it's a dead zone issue and there is no dead zone adjustment in any version of the game. You either need a Dreamcast wheel to play this well or play it in an emulator and tweak the dead zone either within the emulator settings or using third-party software.
@@Pythoner It's way too big. For this video, I played the game in DEMUL and used Xinput Plus to shrink the dead zone. Setting linearity to +0.25 should improve things a lot.

I recently got hold of a MC2 wheel for the DC and playing this game is a lot better with it. If you’re playing the US version it means you’ve two methods of adjusting the control sensitivity (which I still don’t feel is perfect afterwards, but a hell of a lot better than on pad).

We finalize for sonic back in glory The controller should have just been the Saturn pad With a ergonomic design and small twin analogs in the center controller built in rumble . At one point Sega WAS going to put Scud Race / Sega Super GT on the Dreamcast. There was even test footage shown that basically proved the Dreamcast could actually run the game. It was going to happen...and then it didn't.
That had to be Naganuma behind these crazy remixes; they've got Jet Set Radio and Sonic Rush vibes all over them. Wonder what he's been up to lately...
Eh, I'd prefer more. The tracks that were included from Circuit Edition are very well designed -- especially Desert City. The ones unique to this game are a bit underbaked. If Genki had just added one or two more challenging turns to Rin Rin Rink and Mermaid Lake, they'd be awesome. And looking beyond Daytona 2001, the tracks in Daytona 2 are fantastic. I'd love to see all of the aforementioned recreated in a hypothetical new Daytona game.
First off, great driving skills! You’ve got all of the turns down pat! I’ve read that Circuit Pixie, Mermaid Lake and Rin Rin Rink were more designed for online competition (and to appeal to a wide variety of skill levels). I was never a fan of them myself. I have the Daytona arcade download for the Xbox 360, and still have my Dreamcast with Daytona. To me it’s best of all worlds: the 360 version for an enhanced but still pure arcade experience, and the DC version for all of the extra content. To this day I still miss the extra cars from the Saturn version. They really gave that iteration a lot of replay value.
@@ericolson2286There are elements to the latter two that I do like -- especially that first turn in Rin Rin Rink in which the optimal way to take it is to go into a drift as soon as you crest the hill. If they had done a bit more to flesh 'em out, they'd be great track even for online. I think Daytona on 360/PS3 shows that more complicated track design doesn't necessarily hinder multiplayer.
Yeah I don’t hate those tracks, but it does feel they’re all missing something. The decision to remove the roller coaster from National Park Speedway was a very bad one. That track has almost no personality without it.

Before the long overdue 2011 re-release on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, there was the Dreamcast remake Daytona USA 2001, which was co-developed by Amusement Vision (who also developed Super Monkey Ball and F-Zero AX/GX) and Genki (of the Shutokou Battle series fame, aka Tokyo Xtreme Racer / Tokyo Highway Challenge). It's worth noting that only the Western releases allowed players to adjust the analog sensitivity (there is NONE for the Japanese DC release), but it still doesn't change how it managed to have worse controls than even Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition. Then again, Genki's involvement was a dead giveaway. It's a shame since the DC version looks amazing with its high-res graphics, solid visuals and online play at the time.
I love the soundtrack, the graphics everything. Tho the controls are so bad. When playing it on my Dreamcast I never manage to properly make turns and its hard to pull of drifts and sharp turns because theres no dedicated button for drifting. Instead you have to awkardly push the joystick into the direction and hope that the car drifts when you want it to. Otherwise solid game but the controls kinda ruin it for me
A long time ago, I built a custom Dreamcast racing arcade cabinet for this game alone, then came all of the other awesome SEGA racing games like F355, Test Drive LeMans and Metropolis Street Racer that this cab was excellent for also. ua-cam.com/video/sBCYo9Kn1B0/v-deo.html&t=37m50s ua-cam.com/video/sBCYo9Kn1B0/v-deo.html&t=19m20s
The dreamcast was an amazing console, tell me again why Sega lost the console war? It had everything 4 its gen - powerful hardware, season arcade pedigree backing it & amazing games. It's a bloody shame Sega did a crap or job against the Sony hype machine & lost big time. Shame really as imo this version of daytona was better then the arcade & I used 2 smash this with my mates in the arcades. We used 2 play the co op verses arcade cabinets & l was really good at it. For me the dreamcast will always be segas best console ever & I know Sega still has fanboys like me that are still waiting 4 the rumoured return 4 Sega 2 return to the console market like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Sega are legends & just imagine if the really did release a super powerful home console to rival ps5 & series x, wouldn't that be something 2 rejoice!? Thanks 4 posting big like from me mate stay safe & Godbless! 😁🙏👊👍👊👍
These graphics still hold up, even today in 2022. Clean and sharp and smooth. The graphics and games had nothing to do with them losing out, that's for sure. It was mostly bad management decisions, like not enough anti piracy, no DVD disk formats, etc, just to name a few.
Just about everything in this port is a major step up from the original, except for the crew chief's voice. He just sounds so bland and "matter-of-fact" compared to the arcade crew chief.
This poor game gets too much flack. People compare it to USA 2 so harshly and convince themselves its a bad game because of it. Yes, USA 2 is the more "pure" Daytona game, but this game still has a ton of charm in its own right and deserves to be appreciated.
God I love this game. Out of nowhere last night I dusted off my Dreamcast for the first time in years just to play this game. That said, I literally can't race on the Dinosaur Canyon track due to that idiotic song that's playing in the background the whole time. "Daytonaaaaaaaaa" Ugh......
It's an anamorphic widescreen hack that can be used with either real hardware or an emulator via CodeBreaker. Just google "Dreamcast widescreen codes."
From the video description: "Daytona '01 usually gets dumped on for having poor controls when using a gamepad. And it's a claim that's certainly not without merit. While the US version of the game does add an option to adjust sensitivity, this isn't a proper solution. The real problem lies with the analog stick's dead zone -- it's massive. Fortunately, if you play the game on an emulator, you can use a program called XInput Plus to address the issue. Just tweak "linearity" to around +0.25, and that should help to nullify the dead zone." Plays great w/ this fix! :D
I grew up on Daytona in the arcade and on the saturn. when i first played it on the dc i never got why people had such a hard time with the controls, just hold the analog stick up all the time and your good to go!
Yes, it's a dead zone issue that you can only really correct if you're emulating the game. Hook your emulator with Xinput Plus and adjust linearity to around +0.25. That should make it much more playable.
The Saturn and the Dreamcast missed a golden opportunity by not becoming the arcade machine they should have been. If Sega had transferred as many arcade games as possible into their machines, the story may have gone a different way.
Doubtful. I really love arcade games, but the industry had been moving in a different direction since the previous generation. If anything, Sega's reliance on arcade and arcade-style games probably hurt them during the DC years.
Dreamcast is literally an arcade machine (Naomi/Atomiswave)...And got lotta pixel perfect ports from Naomi, near to original quality Model 3 ports and enhanced /beyond perfect arcade ports from weaker systems, like, Model 2, System 12 (Soul Calibur), Midway Zeus (Mortal Kombat Gold), Neo Geo etc....If there is an Arcade perfect home console, that´s Dremcast!
If they hadn't messed with the controls/driving feel and left the intro music alone, this would have been the ultimate version of the game on home consoles at the time. I still played the crap out of it though regardless.
Absolutely nuts how big a learning curve a seemingly simple arcade racer can have. Excellent driving sir!

I wished Daytona USA 2001 gets ported to Nintendo Switch.
That Plim Plim
I love the soundtrack, the graphics everything. Tho the controls are so bad. When playing it on my Dreamcast I never manage to properly make turns and its hard to pull of drifts and sharp turns because theres no dedicated button for drifting. Instead you have to awkardly push the joystick into the direction and hope that the car drifts when you want it to. Otherwise solid game but the controls kinda ruin it for me
Just play it with a steering wheel on the dreamcast.
I have an Act labs rs1 racing wheel for dreamcast. Awesome drive!
A long time ago, I built a custom Dreamcast racing arcade cabinet for this game alone, then came all of the other awesome SEGA racing games like F355, Test Drive LeMans and Metropolis Street Racer that this cab was excellent for also.

we wanted daytona usa2 on dreamcast...
4:24 I see Sonic up there!
Where's the "rolling staaaaaaaaaart!!!"??
I still do posses the CD since 2001, in the original PAL-version! And it's in perfect conditions!🏎✨😊

I bet the tires were cooked after those runs. Impressive piece of driving there.
Circuit pixie looks like a more larger version of baby park
Nah its a nascar oval.
That sax in Seaside Street Galaxy is suhweeeet!
DADADADADADADADADDA
Checkpoint!
Magic Kids- Nivel X DAYTONAAAA MEMORIES!!
I broke saturns récord in 777 speedway in 2 minutes and 20 seconds with a dreamcast emulator
Sa2 and this was made in the same year and yet this one looks better than shitty lazy Sa2
That is the Super Monkey Ball Announcer, did you know?
I would love if someone brings a mix with the Sega Saturn music and Sega Dreamcast graphics! 💙
Here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/zpQfQzd9cRM/v-deo.html
Your driving skills were awesome.
Like and subscribe.
That was an Amazing Race Videogame.
It's all a Jewel.
0:20 I would call this Shutokou Battle: Daytona USA 2001.
Some of the best "sense of speed" in a racing game ever.
You have to roll the analog stick like a steering wheel.
33:18 great guitar
@@toby2581 oops, Sorry😅
Definitely an apology for the Sega Saturn game…
Is this Anamorphic Widescreen? Or 16:9 rendering in emulation?
It's an anamorphic widescreen hack that can be used with either real hardware or an emulator via CodeBreaker. Just google "Dreamcast widescreen codes."
If you pause at 4:18 you can see a Dodge Viper on one of the billboards
EMULATION FOOTAGE
I bought daytona dc thinking this was genuine dc footage, the game does not run as fast as that on a dreamcast :(
I remember the graphics being superior to the model 2 arcade, however it controlled terribly...
Outside of the first Saturn release, none of the follow-ups seemed to get the controls correct.
From the video description:
"Daytona '01 usually gets dumped on for having poor controls when using a gamepad. Just tweak "linearity" to around +0.25, and that should help to nullify the dead zone."
Plays great w/ this fix! :D
Which emulator are you running this from?
I dunno. With the fix I posted, I have control that's on par with the 360/PS3 version. My gameplay in the video reflects that as well.
DEmul.
I grew up on Daytona in the arcade and on the saturn. when i first played it on the dc i never got why people had such a hard time with the controls, just hold the analog stick up all the time and your good to go!
Pure nostalgia.
i remembered my younger time. use manual transmission and sliding tire feel so great
Have you adjusted the controls, I always found the DC version really twitchy.
Yes, it's a dead zone issue that you can only really correct if you're emulating the game. Hook your emulator with Xinput Plus and adjust linearity to around +0.25. That should make it much more playable.
I'm proud to declare that I'm the 500th liker of this video!
And just because they say the name "Daytona", this game will forever be in the chains of licensing hell. Absolute Lunacy!
got that classic dreamcast ‘smooth’
a gameplay like that I wanted to see!!!!
grade 10 !!!
If they hadn't messed with the controls/driving feel and left the intro music alone, this would have been the ultimate version of the game on home consoles at the time. I still played the crap out of it though regardless.
I have the saturn version, although not visually as good as the dreamcast, sounds more arcadey on the Saturn.
Oh hi ceo
On the saturn (first) version you could actually practise to get good on the arcades because the gameplay was similar. Sega Rally too.
What’s the music name on circuit pixie ?
It controls perfectly with the official Sega wheel
Uaaaauuuuuuu! Junto com MSR, um dos melhores games de corrida de todos os consoles que tive... Difícil decidir... Daytoooonaa!
Ss
Brilliant control.
This game’s has a remake, it had deserved.
How you start so fast i try in my emulator it dosn, t work
