I agree with the talking head type videos that using a COB light with softbox will work better than the panel lights. The softbox works just fine for this, no need for a bounce of a sheet or anything that excessive. However, for narrative film there are times when the convenience of the panel light pays off, when light as soft as from a softbox is not really needed. Over the past year I upgraded my lights to Amaran lights, both COB (100d, 60d) and the P60C panel light. It's crazy how useful the panel light is on narrative sets, and being able to replicate daylight though a window with the COB lights has also been amazing. What a great day we live in. I still hang onto my old halogen lights "just in case," and I have still used them a couple times. I do much prefer being able to use the LED lights though. Being able to use batteries is really nice for that much light output. I also got an Anker Powerhouse II 400 to power the 100d. I can of course power more than one light, but I found it to be the best bang for my buck to primarily use it for the 100d when an outlet is not available. Nicely done video. I enjoy your candor.

Short and concise, loved it. Out of curiosity, what were your camera and lens settings to get that look and output from the 60x+softbox?
I’m pretty sure it was my a7siii using S-Cinetone 10 bit. 1/50 shutter Sony 24-70mm GMii 2.8 and iso 640. Then I set the lights for that exposure.
Love the lights! Just a small note - both lights are made by Aputure - the Amaran series are their budget, more-affordable version and that's why their cases and build quality are poor! Keep making awesome videos!
Yes. I noticed that I didn’t mention that fact when I was editing this up. I really need follow my scripts better, but I’m finding it hard to be both in front of the camera and behind it. Anyway thanks for the comment.

Awesome video! I bought two aperture 60x but found they were a little dim to light a venue. Which lights do you recommend for a larger venue? Thanks 🙏
Thanks. The next step up in brightness is the 300, 600, and then 1200. But they all are pricey and have big power supplies. I bought a 600x that I use when I need too. It’s pretty bright. I plan to review it soon.

Good morning, Mark! Thanks for the reply a couple of days ago. I am planning to make the purchase today, so I wanted to ask again (adding a fourth light as a background light), to see if you'd recommend what I have in mind for independent productions and corporative works, social media and ads. It's the Aputure LS 60x Bi-Color LED as the key light, the MT Pro as the hair light, two MC Pro as the background light and the fill light. So they'll be two MC Pros, and a couple of B7c to complement andy lighting setup in case I ever need to. So it will be a total of 6 lights. I actually went with a vey large panel light as my key light. I work in the health care industry and most treatment rooms do not afford the space for any type of modifier. I enjoyed this video.

Good day, sir! A question for you. Owning the Aputure LS 60x and using it as my key light. Would you recommend that I buy the Amaran 60x or the MC Pro as a fill light? Thanks for your videos!
That’s a tough one. I would have to give the edge to the MC Pro because you can mount it on the top of your camera. I have learned that the best place for a field light is close to the camera lens so that it does not add any additional shadows. The benefit to the 60 X however, is that you can put a larger soft box or other diffusion in front of it. Just depends on how many stands you want to set up and how important it is to you to have your fill light soft. Good luck.
Hello, Mark! Thanks for your amazing videos and for sharing your knowledge. Wanting to make independent films while still working on corporate videos, music videos, interviews, etc. I am planning on getting a "small" but powerful and complete lightning equipment. I want to share you my thoughts since I don't really know much about lighting and see your opinion. Of course I am planning on use them a lot and learn everyday so I know how to use it correctly in a future. I am planning on buying the Aputure LS 60x Bi-Color LED as the key light. 2 MC Pro as the back light and fill light and the MT Pro as the hair light. 1. Do you think these 4 lights will do? 2. Do you think they'll be the right options for the purpose i want to use them? 3. If I could only buy 3 would you buy the key light + 2 MC Pro or the key light + 1 MC Pro and 1 MT Pro? 4. Do you think the lights will be enough or would you add something else? In one of your videos you recommend buying also the B7c as a compliment with the MT Pro, would you also buy it if Im getting the other 3 (or 2 lights)? 5. And lastly what about the Spotlight Mini Zoom for LS 60d, are you still doing the review? I want to know what that is about and if it would be good to also get it.

Thanks for reaching out. The lights you have chosen are fantastic and will serve you well. The only thing that is missing is a background light. That’s something you can add later, but it is worth considering. The spotlight mount is great because you can make interesting backgrounds with it. I do need to finish a video about the spotlight mini. I’ve waited so long now that there is the new Bowens mount spotlight for the Amaran 150 C and 300 C. I am hoping to do a video comparing the spotlight, mini for the LS 60 X, and, the Amaran 300 C spotlight mount. My guess is that the 300 C with a spotlight mount would be better as it would give you more color options. Also, your LS 60 X is going to be needed as your key light so using it as a background light is impractical. All that said, I think the choices you were making are good ones and will certainly be enough to create quality work. I hope that helps. Enjoy!

(PS. Would you also get the B7c as a fifth light or do you think with 4 lights will be enough for independent productions?)
How long will the two N-F's last on both lights at 100%? I just can find any information about the usage with the batteries, is it that bad? Dosent that defeat the purpose of having small portable lights
I don’t know. I’ll run a test and post it. I have ordered a SmallRig V-mount battery to compare it to.
So the LS60x and the 60x have the same brightness? I expected more form LS60
Me too. But they both draw 60 Ws of power so it’s not too surprising.
