I’m glad you went into detail with the LUX comparison. That’s exactly what I was looking for when Deciding between the 60d and 60x. Great content, look good dude
Thanks for the video, Benj! Super helpful! On those examples from the Palm Springs wedding, were you using the stock reflector attachment? I’m wondering if barn doors or a spotlight are needed or if I could just rock the stock attachment. I’m a wedding videographer, so looking to achieve a similar look to what you had there. Thanks again for all your hard work on the channel, always so helpful and insightful!
You can use the stock reflector for sure, but you’d need a set of barn doors that would fit that reflector, OR use another reflector like the ones that come with the 100 & 200 series. That also being said, for weddings it’s fine IMO but they technically don’t recommend them with bicolor lights as the COB mapping of the colors can show up in shadows.
You mentioned taking the Apurture LS 60x and Amaran 60x to a wedding and using both of them together. I’m currently contemplating on which of these two to buy actually for wedding filmmaking. Can you explain on how you used them exactly and power levels you used them at considering that I believe one is way more powerful than the other but also double the price ($419 for LS 60x vs $200 for Amaran 60x). Did you have them both at 100%? I don’t know if the Amaran 60x will suffice vs the LS 60x for the exact same use case scenario of wedding dances/speeches such as you mentioned. Or will I be better off buying two Amaran 60x? Also what modifiers did you use as I’ve seen people use fresnel modifiers to fine tune the light onto the dance floor/speech area and not blinding everyone else. I think the LS 60x has a built in fresnel lens so would I just be better off buying that instead of an Amaran and having light spill broadly? I know I could probably purchase a fresnel lens modifier to attach but then the price difference becomes negligible and especially the portability. Sorry for all these questions but since you mentioned these lights for exactly the same reason I’m looking into getting one I think any information you provide will be greatly helpful and appreciated!!! Keep up the great content!
This intro song is 🔥🔥🔥sign me up! You're also the 1st person I've seen mention you don't flash at weddings...May I ask how many of these you use for such an event?
Great informative video Benj! I’m a wedding videographer and looking into getting the 60d because of it’s portability and fairly priced. I’m just wondering if this can be a key light for wedding receptions, dance, and speeches. If it can, in your opinion how far can it be placed away from the subject to be used as a key light? Thanks in advance!
I did when I still shot events. They're great during receptions. I prefer the tungsten-colored ones for the warmer cozier look. They look more flattering IMO too. And if you got at least 2 of 'em at opposite sides, you can get real nice backlight/flares. These are awesome and tiny and the ability to use batteries are awesome! I think the bright spot could help to concentrate more light on the subjects while still wide enough at a distance.
Great video ! Going to need lights for my home studio, travel documentaries, music videos. There will be night time recordings or in dark light back stages . Can you let me know if I need d or x ?
I’d probably go with the X model if you think you’ll be wanting to ever match the ambient lighting. The output is still great and the flexibility is clutch
Thanks and really useful! At the wedding when you set them up as static lights did you use the mini reflector that they come with them or some other kind of modifier? I’m wondering of that hot spot is an issue in practice in these types of events.
Already put my order in for the Daylight version... not even batting an eye on this... Depending on the quality of the light from my own experience, I will buy more of these light's or get a different one.. But this one is looking very promising. I appreciate the Real world images. If you would've had video footage, it would've been great to see, but the images do help a lot. Thank you for the review!
I have the 60d and the manufacturer included a softbox cover for the mini reflector. There’s a noticeable change to the hotspot and evens the light out.
Something nobody is showing is a little "shower cap" that comes in the box, I was wondering if that placed on the Reflector for longer periods of time could cause it to overheat 🤔🤨
Hi Benj thank you for Cascade obviously. Would you make a video sometime where you reach how to use these lights at a wedding. I use strobes and I would love to try something like this as well. How many of these would you bring to a wedding? I also like what you said about the guests getting the benefits as well seeing well lit subjects for the duration of a speech or first dance.
Thanks for the video. When you use this light at a wedding for speeches/dances do you have the reflector on it? I'm wondering since it creates that hot spot in the middle.
Thanks Benj, that was a great video, I'm a wedding film maker and am tossing up between the amaran or the lightstorm 60x, do you think it's worth paying the extra money for the light storm? Do you find you need to focus the light more at weddings?
Hey, thanks for this awesome video. I have 200d with light dome 2 as my key light. Do you think I should get a 60d for a filler/second light? Also, what modifier would you suggest for something that doesn't have a lot of space? I'll be happy if you let me know. You have a new sub.
Yeah, the panel lights in general are just very different from a COB light like this. I’d most likely use the COB light for a key and maybe a panel for an accent as there are just many more modifier options for the 60D/X than the P versions. That being said, I have a P60C on preorder because I do want to use one still too :)
How many batteries do you bring when you use these lights at a wedding? Never used anything similar, I have no idea about battery life. Thanks for the quality content
We usually work on together to find the best balance for the space. There is very rarely any issue unless they have a vastly different lighting style from me
Aloha! I'm a wedding videographer in Hawaii & I am looking to upgrade my lighting equipment to something like these small form factor yet high output lights. I love the examples you gave from the wedding & I was wondering how you dealt with the hot spotting. Did you use the reflector that it came with or did you modify it to not have as much as a hot spot? Thanks!
Nice! Yeah, I’m actually on Maui right now. The LS60 is a better wedding light for sure. But this works in a pinch. The hot spotting diminishes the further you are away from the subject, but you can use other modifiers as well
haha! this one is literally the cheapest junk off amazon that isn't even a video light ;) basically these, but I'd recommend buying some actual ones if you can [what I ended up doing] amzn.to/3ti3rpQ
This is great! Thank you! I have honestly just been looking for something like this to play as part of a background I’m building- so higher end ones aren’t totally necessary for my needs. Appreciate you!
Great video. I don't know if you'll respond but for mini documentary type content, between the 100D and 60D, which would you recommend? I'm trying to have something versatile but packs a punch and is small enough to be portable. I know the 60D has the added advantage of the Battery power.
For doc stuff I’d probably use the Aputure 60X if it’s super run and gun. But the Amaran 60X Is also going to be a great budget option. The battery power is a crucial feature too. All depends on your output needs though. Hard to tell without knowing the scope
@@benjhaisch I hear you and i appreciate your response. Right now I just need a big light. I make the mistake of buying 3 mini LED Lights (2 Ulanzi ice lights and one Vijim VL120), worst lighting mistake and so now I want a big light that I can use to light interviews and talking head videos. I know I'll probably dabble in commercials and spec ads but I just need to get something for general use until I figure out what I'm niching down to. I do tend to get in situations where I need to be mobile but most locations I've been in are close enough to a power source.
@@rinusworldzm I think maybe even having a 200D would probably be a better bet if you want to light interviews for the flexibility of better matching the ambient lighting levels
great review Benj! question - how do you manage to not shine the light in the guest's faces? are you just strategic in your placement or can you use the barn doors with the reflective hood?
Yeah, the LS60X is definitely the better light and far more useful with it’s focusing lens and barn doors, but depending on your use case, you could do it however
Nice review, Benj. My requirement is for a key light in a small studio nook to primarily create UA-cam content (talking head shots), would the 100X be a better choice? I really like how small the 60s are (including the Godox ML series), but guess the extra lux on the 100s may come of use in due course
@@rinusworldzm if I was going to keep it in studio 90% or the time, 100D. If I was going to be taking it around a lot more, 60D/X if I needed portability and bicolor
Hey Benj, were these new lights able to support the Light Dome II without issue? I've heard the mounts aren't the strongest and you have to be careful with bigger softboxes. Thanks!
I wouldn’t use it as my primary soft box but they worked while I did the testing. The Light Dome SE I’d much lighter though, but obviously a pain to setup/tear down.
Oh good! I'm still trying to figure out the best kit to bring both in terms of size and usability. Ideally I'd want to find a way to shape the light a bit more to keep spill off of guests, so I'm considering buying a small set of barndoors
HI! thanks for the nice video! would it be possible to mount them directly onto the camera with a hotshoe adapter? or would the batteries be in the way? any thoughts on that? thanks :)
@@benjhaisch thanks for your answer! got you! i am looking for the best (brightest) LED light to be mounted directly on the camera. for wedding photography. do you have any recommendations? thanks :)
The Lightdome SE that I have linked in the description is fantastic for the price, but a little annoying to setup on location. The Mini II would be a good option as well if you don’t need a huge light source. It all depends on your needs
Definitely one of the best reviews on this light. Period.
