Excellent review; I love how you price each part of the package... it's very entertaining. I've got my MC Pro; I considered the MT Pro, but the MT Pro is considerably down on the brightness, according to Aperture's specs, and I use these little LED panels for food photography, so brightness matters.
Thanks. I’m hoping to finish my comparison of the MT Pro and the MC Pro soon. I’m still on the fence about which is better. I still have a few things I want try before I decide on a winner.
Really appreciate all the detail you put into this. It is a great tour of the features and differences. I've been looking for lights for walk and talk interviews at conferences and this seems like it might be a good fit. Thanks again!
Thoughtful, useful, no BS video that gave me some useful info and also made me chuckle. I bought and then lost my MC when moving house last year, I was on the fence but this leans me to getting the Pro for a replacement. Good stuff, subbed and keep up the good work.
A reference review, I give it the highest A++ rating! You are the first in my memory who reviews a product using real money and evaluates functions in money. Thanks for your review!
This is a great presentation. I like the use of the dollars in the shot as opposed to just text on the screen. You carried that idea from the Thumbnail to the Video which kept me engaged and i appreciate that. Thanks for sharing!
MC Pro is 7 watts. MC is 5 watts. There is a bit confusion here as they sometime list output power and sometimes consumed power. Alas, it's pretty clear most of the "4x" bightness is caused by different beam angles (120 vs 45 degrees) and not a 4x difference in actual lumen output. Anther win for the MC Pro is the TFT sceen instead of the burn in prone OLED on the original MC.
Battery capacity is listed as 2600 mAh vs 4200 mAh, so is about 1,6 times more powerfull. While power use is about 1,4 times more heavy (7 vs 5 watts).
Thanks for your comments. Your points are valid. I noticed the 5 watt vs. 7 watt in the specs but decided to just mention the output because the draw amount did seem very relevant to me. The beam angle is tighter and I was going to mention that but I’m prone to forget what I am going to say when the camera turns on.
@@storybabble I'm waiting for the MC Pro vs MT Pro review now! While I have 8 pcs MC and a single MT pro, I'm probably going for a couple of MC Pros as well.
@@GrenlandUnderVann I'm still working on that review. Thought I would have it done by now. Life keeps getting in the way. I might have to wait until after NAB.
I would use the MT Pro. Or the amaran Tc2c (not the new PT2C) but you would want to get an egg create with that so it’s more money but it is bigger and brighter. Good luck.
Loved to way you presented this. Gave a no bullshit appraisal of the differences and great guidance as to what we get for the money, loved it! Subscribed.👍🇦🇺🇬🇧Max.
great review !! for me, the smaller size of the MC is huge, i can easily pack 2 MC on my camera bag without any issues, while with the MC Pro, i won't be able to fit 1. For me the biggest advantage would be using the MC Pro at longer periods of time without the need of charging it. Since i rarely use the MC over 50% (generally around 20/30%), if i can use the MC Pro at 10% or so, i would be having a much better battery life which helps a lot ! for me, the 200 dollars is a little higher than i was expecting, especially for other countries, like here in Brasil, the price difference is huuuuge :( can't wait to see the comparion with the MT Pro, i have 2 units and i love using them ! The pixel effect is too good, it's pretty hard to beat that light, considering all the specs that is has, such a bummer aputure decided to go with the infinibar design instead of the MT pro design...
I totally respect your opinion. The price difference is big. I also love the MT Pro. After reviewing it I bought a second on. Thanks for you kind words. I’ve never been to Brazil but it’s on my bucket list.
Interesting. When using Sidus, our lights stay on between scene changes. We have five rooms with 40 ish lights, each set as a scene. So, if they shut off when we change scenes, that would be bad.
Changing from seed to scene requires DMX support, which the MC pro has, and other lights from aperture that have the word “pro” after them. You will also need a DMX controller of some kind.
@@storybabble …. So, we haven’t seen that. Sidus link allows us to have many scenes and when we change scenes our lights do not go out as you showed in your video. I’m not sure why, but we have not needed anything more than Sidus to “keep the lights on.” When I switch back to a scene, it connects and picks up where they are. Hummm
Awesome review. Love your format of valuing things. Super Entertaining and it makes me feel like im also inputting into the conversation by just watching. Couple things to note though.... The MC Pro is 4x the brightness without any diffusers or attachments .Not 4x the power They achieved it by increasing the power a little bit(definitely not 4x) and by reducing the beam angle of the light. The MC Pro has a less diffusion and tighter beam compared to the MC out of the box and thats the main reason why its able to put out more light. Also, i feel you definitely undervalued the fact that its rainproof id value that at around 20-25$ with how much i work outdoors. Also the fact that theyre mixing in the red and blue leds into the white spectrum to achieve a higher CRI and further temperature range. I would definitely say thats a difference in money. The MC Pro will achieve fire looks much better because of it aswell as if ur trying to do a cold blue look like someone is starting at a bright screen then the extended range would also help a ton with that. Id value the extended range as atleast worth 10$ Also the eggshell lens is definitely worth 25$ if not more!!! That thing is bussin
Thanks for your kind words and insights. Good Points. You’re right about the beam angle and my values are pretty arbitrary and will be different for everyone. I’m a great indoorsman myself so weather is as big a deal for me, but I can see what you mean. Thanks for your comment. It helps me a lot and keeps me going. Appreciate it.
Thanks for the great review. I was wondering if you could please tell me if the MC Pro works while it is charging. I am considering getting 2 or 3 to use in my voiceover booth, which means they would mostly stay in place and the USB would mostly be plugged in. Space is tight (5'x6'x7') so I am considering using one as a key light for live directed sessions with clients. I need something that I don't need to charge to use, is quiet, stays cool, looks pro, and will fit in my space. I like the Aputure/Amaran universe, and I like the control the Sidus app affords. Thanks!
Another great review! I bought the MC about since the release and Im so happy with this little light. The MC pro looks good though it will be really great to win the amaran 😀
That’s hard to say. The beam angle is tighter on the MC pro, so it does seem harsher. It’s also less to fused, but when you diffuse it, it’s not harsh at all.
Hey i need one of those 2 to be used in combination with a hue smart plug to turn it on/off via cut the power from the plug. Will both go off or stay in akku battery mode?
That’s a great question. I have look at the manual to see if there is a studio mode that would bypass the battery but I couldn’t find anything. Maybe it’s something that could be fixed with firmware, but I think you’re out of luck. The aperture B7C does have a studio mode, but I can’t find anything on the menu that would bypass the battery in the MC or MC pro.
@@storybabble sadly a few years back i already had a aputure MC. I just want it again because its a great handy light but did not test that back the days. All my lights can be used as in a studio mode. (200xS, 300C, 60P and the T2C. I will buy it again and see if its possible, thanks!
I've been watching videos and researching these lights compared to eachother and the lume cube RGB panel pro. Your video helped with part of my decision. Thanks!
It can do both because it switches between being a flash (for photo) and a continuous light (for video). However, a continuous light alone can also work for photo too, but a flash will be much brighter and allow you to have a much faster shutter speed. I have not used the Stella reflex but I would be wary of the light because it’s hard for me to imagine that it would be better than separate dedicated flash and video lights. Hope this helps. Thanks for asking.
Awesome. This light looks pretty sweet sadly I rarely ever used my mc. So idk if I will get it.. I ended up getting the mt pro based off your video.. Totally dig it

Yeah the way it goes sometimes unfortunately! Always gotta keep good track of your gear but accidents can still happen sometimes. But great vid! Enjoyed this comparison and regardless will pick up the MC Pro at some point
The 4 times brightness is worth 110$ to me because I would of purchased it anyway if this is the only difference. The UI (menu system, screen and rotary encoder) is worth 30$ to me because I do like a nice user experience. The hot shoe adapter is worth $30 because I don't have one. The quick release magnetic filters are worth another 30$ because time is valuable and I don't want to fanny around looking for alternatives that may or may not fit correctly. The grand total of what it is all worth to me is $110. Yes 110$ (that is not a maths error) I am also happy with it. 🤣
It is a great light honestly and a great honest review as always but I feel it’s not worth it over my MC and for what it’s worth, $200 for the MC Pro is too much when I can get the MT Pro for the same price, I know they are different tools for different jobs and have different features for said jobs but !!! Still … I’d go MT Pro and keep my MC non pro.
Having and using both, I believe the MC Pro is a huge jump over the original MC. I have two of the originals and they awesome but the Pro is a different tool entirely due to its output, beam pattern and workflow efficiency. So now I’m using both.
Yes that are both 5 watts, but watts does not mean lumens. I don’t know how they did it, but I know that the pro is significantly brighter and I believe them when they say it it is four times brighter.
6:01 Charging from 99% to 100% is not necessary and takes a long time for the same reason it happens in a Tesla: the battery is like a parking lot for electrons. The fuller it gets, the longer it takes to find a spot. So that last little bit can take as long as the first 80-90% in a Tesla, 99% for the MC Pro apparently. Elon Musk explains it really well if you google Tesla charge time.
