    It's a bad idea to use dji fpv remote controller =( .Better to use elrs or crossfire for control

      BAD idea is a bit strong, but you’re right, they certainly aren’t the undisputed king of the castle by any stretch in the FPV world. It has its drawbacks for sure, but the OcuSync 3 onboard is largely a really reliable signal. I’m still working on what I want to do. I’m actually thinking crossfire just because I know the long-range application when paired with a GPS rescue can be really useful.

    Fly 915mhz next time, never trusted anything but the TBS radio link. I've been flying since 2015 or so. Never had a failsafe with TBS and I fly far.

      I just ordered the parts I need to buildout a 3” quad I intend on using as a beater. I went TBS for my comm link. ☺️ If it goes well, I’ll do the same for my next buildout which I’m planning for a 5” with some sexiness to it. 😂

    Hey that sucks but I have a feeling that your dji remote is to blame. You can have video and loose link and I think that is what happened as soon as the antenna was blocked by the battery when you flipped that split second could have done it. Go with crossfire or elrs good luck

    • @TheDroneGeek

      That seems to be the overwhelming response to this from folks that are avid and experienced FPVers. I'm already in the market -- I have at least 2 builds planned for this year, so the new builds will be done with Crossfire. Thank you!

    Don't think your battery was the issue mate.

    • @TheDroneGeek

      No, at the time of recording I thought it was. Turns out the drone failsafed because the DJI Digital system is not uber reliable for whatever reason…lessons learned. Adjustments being made. 😂

  • @fede_fpv
    @fede_fpv 7 місяців тому +3

    I believe that the problem is only and exclusively the DJI Remote controller which unfortunately is quite famous for failsafes, many pilots strongly advise against using it and instead recommend Crossfire or Elrs before starting to fly.

      My buddy Sam, who is a more accomplished FPV pilot than I am, has put enormous pressure on me to get something other than the DJI controller. I’m currently in the market for one as well as working on a build for a new 5”. 😂

      So I can't wait to see more feedback on the Mark 5 with the use of a good radio and I'm sure you won't have any more sudden failsafes 😎🙏🏻

    Great info thank you. Also…would love to know what mic you’re using for this video with it being shot on the GoPro and/or what processing you did on your audio as sounds great

      Thank you for your comment! I’m using the GoPro Hero 11 with the Media Mod kit and no external mic. The audio with the Media Mod is incredibly high-quality. I now pair it with the DJI Mic, but standalone the audio quality on the Hero 11 with the kit is great!

      @@TheDroneGeek What the hell is going on? I took the screws out of my Geprc Mark 5 to adjust camera angle of O3 unit, I set it as I wanted, now I wanna put the screws back ( they are all exactly same, 4x ) and they just stuck half way??? Like I can screw them back in just a little bit and then they both stay in the same spot leaving like 3mm gap to the actual drone. I tried to push a bit heavier but no help and also don’t wanna try pushing really hard and break the camera lol. What is going on? Please help me I beg you I’m losing my mind I got this drone 7th day now and I still wasn’t out flying cos there is ALWAYS a problem. I just finally charged my bats, set everything on Beta Flight and now this💩. Omfg….

    Man this sucks...had the same thing happen to me at a meetup in Chicago, was fly my nazgul evoque, and I don't know what did it, but it failsafed over a parking lot. Lost an arm, broke 2 motors, my vusta camera on front, and my hero 8 black...I wanted to cry haha...part of the hobby I guess lol! Good to see ya bounce back and get it rolling again! 💪

    The good part is that the GoPro is obsolete by the Ace Pro. Also, non-technical guys like you should just stick to the off-the-shelf "safe" GPS-guided "drones". I hate that BNF proper fpv freestyle quads are available - you should have to build them - a barrier to entry to those not equipped to handle the paradigm.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  8 місяців тому +1

      Ah, so you’re a gatekeeper. Got it. By that logic, the whole concept of building them would have died out 5 years ago.
      On top of that, currently waiting on parts to build one…so, be careful how you compartmentalize people.

    I know how you feel when you crash and don't understand exactly why and don't trust the hardware. I crashed with my Mark5 (twice!!) because for some reason the DJI O3 air unit itself power cycled and that takes like 20-30s to reconnect. I was doing a flip both times, but not a big power burst. I eventually just hard wired the power to the VBatt rails because I'm on 4S and that is easily within the range. All better now.

    I just got my Mark 5 but GEPRC forgot to ship my batteries. I hope this doesn’t happen when I start flying.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  11 місяців тому

      After talking through it with friends who fly FPV, they are fairly confident it was not a battery issue, but rather a failsafe due to a temporary loss in communication between the RC and the drone. There is an electrical power station on the hill behind where I fly, so I believe that was the culprit for the interference.
      Big thing to learn from my misfortune is that situations like this are precisely why it’s important to avoid flying over people and critical infrastructure. Something random and freak happens like this and you could really hurt somebody or damage something that could create a dangerous situation.

    • @DimmyV
      @DimmyV 11 місяців тому

      @@TheDroneGeek that’s odd as I thought the O3 is meant to have really good signal. This is why I opted to separate the RC link and video feed. I have CRSF on mine but I’m yet to fly. Once I get my lipos will test.

    Hey Chris, sorry for the crash my friend, like you said at least no one got hurt... another great video. I think Battery overheated and actually exploded in mid air not at the crash. this happened to me ones on my Rc car

  • @ATF2099

    maybe interference with the power lines and upside down backwards angle is gonna have frame and battery between ant and yourself. what protocol are you running?? this shouldn't probably be an issue with tracer / xLRS maybe set stage 1 failsafe timer.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Рік тому

      It could be, but I'm just perplexed how that would happen since I have flown that exact route countless times without issue. It just makes no sense to me, which makes it all the more frustrating to work through!
      As for your question about my drone's protocols, right now I'm flying it straight out of the box because I'm still learning how to configure my drone in Betaflight and using hardware and firmware to create the performance I want. I'm still very green. The protocol, as far as I am aware, is direct from the DJI FPV Controller 2 to the DJI O3 Air Unit, which I believe communicates to the FC and ESC.
      Don't stone me too badly if my understanding is lacking...I'm still trying to sink my teeth into this so that I'm not ignorant to how my drone actually works. I'm still practicing freestyle and looser styles of flight!
      Thank you for your perspective and thoughts, I'll run it through Betaflight again to see what my failsafe settings are and see what can be done to mitigate the risk of this happening again!

    did the video feed to your goggles freeze at all or go black before this "failsafe"? or was the video feed still showing but lost control of the drone mid flight and watched in your goggles as the drone tumbled to the ground?

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Рік тому

      I'm 90% certain the feed was live until impact. To be honest, it happened really fast (gravity is crazy), so the timespan from loss of control to loss of feed is extremely foggy in my memory now.

    • @TwinTurboFX
      @TwinTurboFX Рік тому

      @@TheDroneGeek ya my assumption would be if you still had video feed while not able to control the drone, it did indeed failsafe due to interference or out of range from controller like behind too many trees/obstacles. do you remember if link quality/rsssi dbm alarm was flashing at you just before the failsafe?

  • @Nullscr1pt
    @Nullscr1pt Рік тому

    when you say failsafe, what does that mean? Did you lose signal on your goggles? I have a mark5 o3 and it comes with Betaflight 4.3 stock, did you update your betaflighjt to 4.4.2 ? did you change any settings? pid tuning? I am buying a anti-karen drone soon Siren F3 split o3 air unit, etc... sub 250g... also will be quieter and less power so thats going to be my neighborhood flier and the mark5 will be my wide open area flyer...

    You’re flying much longer than I get with the same setup and batteries. With the same style of flying I’m averaging 4.5-5 minutes. Do you land with at approximately 20% left in your packs? If you routinely push them much further it’s not good for them and could have caused issues.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Рік тому

      I fly them down to around 15-20% normally, but I also don’t fly acro and at high speed usually. I’m just cutting my teeth on freestyle flying as of the purchase of the Mark5 (and sims). Battery health could have played into this as I’m not the best at managing my batteries, but the more I talk with folks and tell them what happened the more I’m convinced it failsafed for some reason. Not sure if it’d failsafe for a battery issue, but maybe?

    • @gpaull2
      @gpaull2 Рік тому

      Hmmm…I don’t do much acro or high speed either. Only get about 4 minutes when I do. I even have my throttle dialed back to 80% max and don’t have a GoPro mounted. 🤔
      I much prefer the crashes caused by dumb thumbs. Humbling but can still have trust in my equipment.
