Thanks for the recommendation on switching to Edge TX and ELRS - I made the jump yesterday and it was *so* easy to setup on both ends (besides soldering the wires to the tiny breakout pads on the FC) to setup. I would say BNF quads are a godsend for countries which do not have a sizable FPV community. Living in Singapore, we do not have a huge selection of retailers from which to purchase parts to build from scratch and parts selection is also limited. You can argue we can purchase them overseas, but the shipping costs and currency conversions (especially with costly living standards) would simply make scratch builds too costly for beginners. Anyway, just want to thank you for your videos. Just started out in FPV with the Cetus X and simulators and already ordered this in 6S analogue to go further!
Also true for Indonesia. BNF is oftentimes cheaper. The only time scratch build is cheaper or worth it is when popular online shop restocked a lot of spare parts
Bought a mk5 two months ago and I'm super stoked! Was lucky to find an old stock deal with an MPU6000. This is my first 5" quad and I'm blown away with the performance and stability. First flights were on a 4s 1300 and for cruising I managed to get a consistent 7-8 min. I now use a 6s 2000mah pack for cinematic filming and with a gopro I easily reach 8-10min even in strong wind! I bought my MK5 not long after this video and so far it's performing pretty good. I replaced the default FC with a Mamba Mk4 F722 App, since GEPRC somehow had not added the barometer and it also just didn't want to work with the SpeedyBee app. After a crash I burned the ESC and replaced it with a Mamba F40. I destroyed 2 LiPos on crashes and have yet to kill a motor, but the frame just tanks crashes at 50kph into concrete like a champ. If I need to replace the motors, I'd definitely get some RCinpower GTS V3 2107 Plus' or Wasp Majors.

Not only do I fall into the “I enjoy building” camp but I like how I cover the motor wires better. I also like to have some quads with motors in the lower recommended Kv rang and some in the higher range. With bind & flys, you get two choices for different cell counts. I do think BNF quads are a good way to get started.

I actually bought the frame and did my own build on it. What came in the box was amazing, all sorts of screws i'd need, all sorts of foam and 3d printed parts, allowing full flexibility into the build allowing for almost any component I could think of. (only thing it doesn't take is 25.5mm aios) well done geprc

I like the wire covers but didn't want to re solder all the motor wires to swap to new ones when I changed bottom plates so I took my rc lexan scissors and cut a tiny gap in the bottom center to slide the old ones off and new ones on. The tape holds it down just fine with a hair missing and the top and sides are still whole.
Purchased this quad the day after I saw this review which was exactly 2 days after the video was released. Bought the frame kit and I built it myself, with my fav components. 2207 2021kv 6s. Disappointed to find out it takes only 30x30(I might drill some holes in the extreme case). Anyway the build is solid and designed in great details. Weird how it says had front arms and rear ones, which to me they look similar…mheee. Been bashing it a lot, put it under my usual stress test and so far I’m liking it. Also great it takes 5.2 prop size and motor to motor gives such a nice flying experience that I love. Highly recommend to try this quad
Hey Josh, thanks for the video. I wanted to note your explanation of the metal front end is a little off. The metal part’s manufactured and post-processing will result in it being more brittle / stiff or soft ‘ bendable. Composites also have variations.
Actually, carbon in the material thats really strong up until the yeild point. Even aluminum will yield more than carbon before breaking. The carbon flexibility is only applicable to something less the 3mm. But as far as something small like a drone goes the aluminum and carbon are equal.
I use them motor wire shields but I also put layer of electrical tape over them so the don’t shatter. They last ages then before you need to replace one

I have both the Roma V2 and the Evoque. I got the Roma first (late summer 2021) and my wife bought me an Evoque for Christmas. I have to say out of the box the Evoque was the better drone but I have tuned and gotten my Roma V2 so synced to the way I like to fly, I prefer it over the Evoque. The Roma feels punchier on throttle. The Evoque is great and looks great late evening (LEDs are gorgeous and configurable...running a fixed Seattle Seahawks ble/green theme right tnow. I did swap the camera for a Runcam Phoenix 2 (not a JB) as the default camera was terrible in variable light conditions. 600mW VTX has not been as much a liability as I thought though Roma is still better. I like the Mark 5 but with the cost and I don't need another 5" will keep me away. If they make a 3-3.5" of it, I am there day one as I love the basic design.
The product page on iFlight's web site says F7 45A power stack, but that is referring to an older rev of the product and is not correct. If you check the changelog you can see it changed to the E55S ESC in November 2021.
Great video. I really need to try one of these new pre builds as they have just come on som much. As you say it close to make no sense to build for the average user now. rcinpower was the first I noticed who released 2107 sized motors. The stator length is actuallly 7.5mm, so it should be the same size as this one. The GTS V3 motors have been tested by Chris Rosser in one of his motor testing videos together with Xing2, FPVCycle motors, and Wasp, another motor from rcinpower.
I have in months gone from learning to fly on a bnf to cnc cutting my own carbon fiber frames and building my own but I still keep good bnf quads on my radar, sometimes they provide inspiration for your tune or hardware on another quad
@@Funky.P0V I recently got into contact with some of the major companies to be considered for design and development. I haven’t cut for someone else yet but I’m interested. Hey mate, I'm very very new to drone flying from down on AU. I just thought I'd get in touch and firstly to say I appreciate your content, it's been really helpful for me tryingto get my head around the whole hobby. I've not yet subscribed to your Patreon, but hey, maybe that day will come soon 😉 In terms of the motor wire protection. Have you ever used the 3m self amalgamating tape? I use it on a tonne of stuff from bikes to remote control cars to random stuff around the house... It is non sticky, but binds to itself. You stretch it as you wrap it so if you stretch real hard you can get a nice this layer. Once installed it essentially ends up as a retrofitted heatshrink.. Anyway, not sure if that's if any use to you at all, but yeah, cheers for the videos. Simon
With your own build you will make any you want. I made 6s quad on cl25 frame with rcinpower motors and eachine fc. It is specific, but it is. But eachine fc, I think, need to be replaced. :)
Good review. I have an iFlight Evoque which in reality I do not prefer despite much trying to my old EMax Hawk5 with a Vista added in. IMO its simply too heavy. My Hawk5 is 320g w/o battery, even with shark fin 3D print top, actually visible (!) eight LED rear, double strapping and DAL Folds. That's REALLY noticeable in flight! SO, build from scratch? Maybe not, but modding a BNF is an option not to be discarded. The LEDS on the Evoque are for daytime use worthless. I have a 6" GEPRC Mk 4 that I built up myself, possibly the last "from scratch" build I will do. Excellent frame, was Analogue, now Vista, of course it flies the same, but now I can see MUCH better and go places I could not risk before! How will the GEPRC Mk5 fare against the Hawk5 ? Dunno, mine should be delivered today!! Finally, its a LLOOOOONNNNG time since EMax produced a new 5", any rumours??
SO, direct off scales, the Mk5 with Air Unit weighs nearly the same as the Nazgul Evoque with Vista, and both are a whopping 100g plus over the weight of my EMax Hawk5 with Vista!!
Re: motor diameter. I always preferred a wider motor instead of taller motor. My thoughts have been the wider diameter is able to spin up the prop easier.
Yeah, those 'wire protector' things suck, I put them onto one of my builds and the first light crash I had caused the props to bend and strike 2 of those protectors and cracked them, going to just go back to cutting prop blades up and using them to cover motor wires.
Damn! You got REALLY good!!! Watched you many moons ago when I flew quads. Costs just got too much! LOL! One of your videos just popped into my feed again. Miss those days and I miss watching you. I'm subscribing for nostalgic reasons! 😀

@Joshua Bardwell Correction, Evoque F5 Analog comes also with a different esc 45A not 55A like vista version, cool review , thank you
The product page on iFlight's web site says F7 45A power stack, but that is referring to an older rev of the product and is not correct. If you check the changelog you can see it changed to the E55S ESC in November 2021.
Gosh Joshua you making me want another drone this frame is really nice
Looking to move in from DJI FPV to a legit quad. This looks like a good place to start!
Try the 3m friction tape. You’ll love it.
Joshua, You are the best.
I've been flying The Mark 2 for three and a half years its my favorite freestyle quad. Now I need a mark 5.
kid's got an awesome spud launcher setup. has he taken out one of your quads with it yet
Great video. I really need to try one of these new pre builds as they have just come on som much. As you say it close to make no sense to build for the average user now. I was close to getting the Evoque but when I stop pending on other things I will pick one of these up. I like what they have done here.
The best part about this video is the freestyle park you made. Please do a video on that. :)
I’ve never had the plastic wire covers break 2 years in on my iFlight Titan XL5
At 1:30 you start flying around an obstacle in the yard. I would love to see external video showing the quad doing these maneuvers.
That looks pretty nice, if i was to buy it i would order a few extra sets of front end plates for future repairs but it seems pretty good to me.
Sick!!! adding gates to yr compound....
Really amazing stuff. Im learning so much from your videos
You have the best job in the world
I have bout a brown new Diatone and was So so happy to fly with it. 2 mounth has gone and I have not been able to connect a reciver to it nor fly it with my Dji system. The viasta is gone, and that has taken 2 stack flight controller with it. AND what do I do while I have not concurred anything with the Diatone Roma. I just go and buy another Diatone!!!!? I really do not know what I am doing these days. THE ROMA took 3 of my very expensive recivers with it.....
gaffer tape FTW. rips perfectly into any size section.
Love the video. The information was on point and helped me massively. Also want to say thank you soooo much from a viewers perspective.....There was no lengthy intro branding clip taking up the first minute before any content, there was not the obligatory "HEY GUYS dont forget to hit that like and subscribe" yelling at the beginning and when you do mention a like, we are already 10min into content. Brilliant! So much so that I just felt the need to comment and say keep up the good work and your videos are informative as well as a pleasure to watch!
rcinpower was the first I noticed who released 2107 sized motors.
Do you build custom orders?
@@Funky.P0V I recently got into contact with some of the major companies to be considered for design and development. I haven’t cut for someone else yet but I’m interested. What kind of frame are you into? Are you looking to have it completed with electronics? What kind of flying do you want to do with the custom frame?
Just ordered some more carbon fiber and 3D printer tpu! I have a frame in the works I’m getting excited to produce!
This thing is terrifying loud, PERFECT!
@ 20:43 you better be careful - that mortar seems aimed very cleverly at that little structure in front of it...... 😎
Awesome review - makin' me wish I had one LOL 😁
I have lock-tight only at the bottom screws in my mark4 frame. I always open from top, never had to unscrew bottom screws.
building your own and then customizing the thing would give you the best of both worlds really.
Finally you reviewed this.
Thank you Joshua for all the work you put in that.
Hey mate,
I'm very very new to drone flying from down on AU.
I just thought I'd get in touch and firstly to say I appreciate your content, it's been really helpful for me tryingto get my head around the whole hobby. I've not yet subscribed to your Patreon, but hey, maybe that day will come soon 😉
In terms of the motor wire protection.
Simon
Yes I've tried it, but it splits too easily. It lacks durability.
Nice work on those sticks!
Love the intro. So true. Thanks again for the thoughtful comparison at the end too.
Yeah, those 'wire protector' things suck, I put them onto one of my builds and the first light crash I had caused the props to bend and strike 2 of those protectors and cracked them, going to just go back to cutting prop blades up and using them to cover motor wires.
Nice review, there is still the new HGLRC Sector 5 v4, will you review this as well ? Would be curious how this compares to the others 😊
I am going to get one of those as well. Funny you bring them up in comparison.
Damn! You got REALLY good!!! Watched you many moons ago when I flew quads. Costs just got too much! LOL! One of your videos just popped into my feed again. Miss those days and I miss watching you. I'm subscribing for nostalgic reasons! 😀
1:31 I know you were speaking directly to me.
Another awesome video!
I wish Race Day Quads had the Air Unit version I'd pick this up!
I’m getting ready to move to the country. I can’t wait to build some obstacles like you have! The freedom to fly the way I want anytime, and be far away from people will be nice. BNF quads are really good these days! I really like this Mark 5!
Hi Joshua bardwell i have bought the iflight evoque f5 and i have blown 3 esc's and the analog vtx is only puting out 10 mw when set on 600mw thats also why i just bought dji
Love your obstacles really nice and fun looking to fly through.
