I've had both cars and loved them both.. The build quality (engine, trans, interior, etc) is much better on the BMW. Had to replace the GT350 engine within the first year due to oil consumption... no other car sounds like the GT350. Instant smiles everytime you step on the gas!
It's pretty obvious that the Shelby owner does not know how to launch his car. He should be slipping the clutch instead of using launch control. The only thing he accomplished in those 2 dig races was showing how badly the car bogs down when using launch control in these cars.
I have a 2018 gt350 and I gotta tell you all, man I love this car. The sound with the valves open is insane. Especially downshifts. Pops every time lol. But what people forget is that this car wasn't created for drag racing. It was created to take around a track! Yet it still beat this m4. Around a track it wouldn't even have been close.
@@beardedforlife3740 did you read what I said? I said the gt350 was never built for drag racing. It was built to go around a track. It's not surprising it lost from a dig but it is impressive it won on a roll.
I can't tell if the Bimmer puts the power down more efficiently, or if you are a better manual driver than the other driver(launching successfully in high hp manual cars is truly an art and skill). Maybe, if possible in the future, have the drivers swap and perform the same races.
I knew in the roll race the higher revving GT350 would hit its stride and win. The M4 wins from the dig because of its low down grunt. Overall, I’ll take that GT350 all day every day. That GT350 is making music. Puts the M4 to shame.
Races usually happen on rolls, so mustang would be legit, bmw is just so nice its hard to pick. On the street a bmw, and Highway or long roads mustang imo
True. But starting from 0 is like when ur at a red light. Side by side . Few other scenarios but for me I drive on a open highway for 25 minutes to get to work and I usually beat the comp
Dang. Both are amazing. Shelby would out perform the bmw around the track, that's what it's built for, all that aero and power gives it an advantage, not only to that M4, but lots of cars even more power than it.
The GT350 was never meant for off the line drag racing- it is a true enthusiasts street legal race/track car. Very special. They'll never make one like it again.
A manual BMW doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me the thing basically drives itself down the road you're sitting there in luxury and then it's like hey user/driver you got to do this really important thing..... slower then the model with a DCT.
The mustang would’ve beat you from a dig if he knew how to drive the car. Every time he used launch control it landed flat on its face. If he would’ve raced you without launch control he would’ve beat you every time.
Yep, I own a GT350R, you have to have launch control set to at minimum 4800 rpm any lower and it bogs, it needs the wheelspin because the torque isn't your typical down low torque. Get the tires spinning just a little and the car leaves way harder than this shows. His rolls he is also down too low in the RPM, he should be starting his rolls at 5500rpm.
The GT350 sure sounds better. That is why I didn’t replace my E92 M3 (V8) with an M4, but choose something more raucous. Besides, BMW lost me on their front end “styling.”
The GT350 doesn't have low down torque, so you have to wind it out to get adequate power. Similar to BMW's own V10 M5. The BMW M4 has quick spooling twin turbos and those generate torque quickly, meaning stop light glory. On a roll and assuming the GT350 in the 4500 rpm range, it's lights out for the M4.
U can't be serious. If this wasn't a complete base model m4 it's getting obliterated. The m4 competition xdrive would make the shelby look like it's parked
Mustang has never really done anything for me. GT350 is a whole other machine. Truly the best Mustang Ford had ever built. Maybe the best they will ever build.

But facts are facts... performance number vs. real world performance "on the track" seem to confirm both manufactures - seem to make a long history of under rating their vehicles much more than US companies. When US car makers do the same, its never accepted. The 'street rumor mill' quickly 'corrects the lies. like Cobra Jet mustangs (claimed HP was 335hp? Boss 302 mustangs claimed 290hp? Dynos, don't lie - however, where and when you take your reading (on the dyno curve) can change the 'observed' HP/TQ reading by a bunch.

The flat plane-crank V8 in the GT350 is one of the best sounding engines in the world. Unfortunately, the Mustang's interior is just laughably terrible for the price. I had a fully loaded Mustang rental car for a week and just couldn't get over how cheap it all is and how awful the NVH is. I would rather have the GT350, than the M4. There's just something about that Voodoo engine and Tremec 6spd that is extraordinary. If only Mustang's could just find the traction during a dig. Can't wait to see that M4 vs the Cadillac CT-4 Blackwing with the no lift shift 6spd. Thank you Sam.
The M4's front end is hideous!

I've had both cars and loved them both.. The build quality (engine, trans, interior, etc) is much better on the BMW. Had to replace the GT350 engine within the first year due to oil consumption... no other car sounds like the GT350. Instant smiles everytime you step on the gas!

Agreed. He does look a little psychotic with the intensity of that stare but I dig it!
Are you kidding me? Sam is literally the worst manual driver i've ever seen. Have you seen his M4 vs supra video? God awful.
Mustang sounds glorious. The high revving engine in the 350 and 350R make it the most special modern Mustang ever produced...at least in my books!

@@anthonycraig2079 One that's above your level of comprehension!
It's pretty obvious that the Shelby owner does not know how to launch his car. He should be slipping the clutch instead of using launch control. The only thing he accomplished in those 2 dig races was showing how badly the car bogs down when using launch control in these cars.
Wow, both cars amazing and Sam can drive the crap out of that manual. Good job.
Happy to see your channel growing Sam! 😃
You are doing a super job with the drag races 🎉🎊🍾🥳🍻👏
Great Race, great race
Both cars evenly matched
I have a 2018 gt350 and I gotta tell you all, man I love this car. The sound with the valves open is insane. Especially downshifts. Pops every time lol. But what people forget is that this car wasn't created for drag racing. It was created to take around a track! Yet it still beat this m4. Around a track it wouldn't even have been close.
Eh I would really brag about it winning. The BMW ate the mustang on every dig race and that's real drag racing so....
@@beardedforlife3740 did you read what I said? I said the gt350 was never built for drag racing. It was built to go around a track. It's not surprising it lost from a dig but it is impressive it won on a roll.

I much prefer this intro soundtrack to the older one gives me Unreal tournament (1999) vibes.
I can't tell if the Bimmer puts the power down more efficiently, or if you are a better manual driver than the other driver(launching successfully in high hp manual cars is truly an art and skill). Maybe, if possible in the future, have the drivers swap and perform the same races.
Sam you're a freaking awesome presenter and I thoroughly appreciate the effort in your content creation. Keep kicking ass.
Thank you!
Agree! Love the content and the variation. I am beyond tired of seeing the new BMW racing the new Porsche. No one even buys those cars... Sam gets it.
interesting race.. i didnt even know the m4 came in manual. but the gt350 sounds dammmmmmnnn good
Shelby doesn't need any fake engine sounds from the speakers. In fact it doesn't need any speakers, I'd be good just listening to that engine.
Such a sick intro buddy! Great job with the edits!
Thank you
I knew in the roll race the higher revving GT350 would hit its stride and win. The M4 wins from the dig because of its low down grunt. Overall, I’ll take that GT350 all day every day. That GT350 is making music. Puts the M4 to shame.

Comp is auto, not a fair race
Races usually happen on rolls, so mustang would be legit, bmw is just so nice its hard to pick. On the street a bmw, and Highway or long roads mustang imo
And all the drag racers say that real races are from a dig.
True. But starting from 0 is like when ur at a red light. Side by side . Few other scenarios but for me I drive on a open highway for 25 minutes to get to work and I usually beat the comp
BMW front end........ugly!
I'm not a Ford guy but the gt350 is something very special.
Good race.. I noticed that the 350 bog down abit off the line
I heard it too need launch that thing like 5,500 rpm ain’t nobody home below 4k
I am curious to see how a regular GT with the 10Speed would do against the M4 in Dragstrip mode with some Cup 2s would do against the M4.
A 10 speed Mach 1 would beat the M4 easily
@@davemillan5082 M4 manual, maybe. M4 with a DCT, I doubt it.
Another awesome vid. Thanks for the great content.
Dang. Both are amazing. Shelby would out perform the bmw around the track, that's what it's built for, all that aero and power gives it an advantage, not only to that M4, but lots of cars even more power than it.
No
I’m always appreciative of the Mustang’s looks when I see one in my rear view mirror.
Great intro Sam!!
Big naturally aspirated engines are very powerful from a roll
Sound of GT350 its... 👌🤩🤤
The GT350 was never meant for off the line drag racing- it is a true enthusiasts street legal race/track car. Very special. They'll never make one like it again.
Are the Canadian GT350 specs the same as in the US?
Yes lol
A manual BMW doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me the thing basically drives itself down the road you're sitting there in luxury and then it's like hey user/driver you got to do this really important thing..... slower then the model with a DCT.
Haha that's true
Nice work sam, should be close since BMW underrate their horsepower claims
In German AUTO BILD Sportscar magazine the dynoed a M4 Performance (510 hp stated) with 522 hp. So this one should have nearly 500hp I think.
So does Ford on the Mustangs
That GT350 sounds Godly!!!💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
The mustang would’ve beat you from a dig if he knew how to drive the car. Every time he used launch control it landed flat on its face. If he would’ve raced you without launch control he would’ve beat you every time.
Yup he needs to learn how to slip that clutch or let them tires spin a bit
Yep, I own a GT350R, you have to have launch control set to at minimum 4800 rpm any lower and it bogs, it needs the wheelspin because the torque isn't your typical down low torque. Get the tires spinning just a little and the car leaves way harder than this shows. His rolls he is also down too low in the RPM, he should be starting his rolls at 5500rpm.
@@dirtjumper1979 Absolutely! From a GT350 owner
чувак за рулем форда не умеет стартовать - бросает сцепление, в итоге машина на старте едва не глохнет. А должна делать рывок
The BMWs hook up so much better from the start.
That Mustang needs a driver...
I was actually looking to buy a Shelby 350 awhile back, but ended up buying an M4, this was a good video to watch, I love all cars, but after owning an M4 I can’t have anything else

The 350 in this video 60 ft got to be 2.4 sec. It should be much faster than that but it is geared and meant to be most of its power high rpm.

My 350 is not a drag car, but in a roll race it's not too bad vs world class engineering from Germany .... And a whipple makes it insanely fast ... On the track the BMW is a monster, they both are
The 350s advanced trac isn’t off , so it bogs the launch . that’s why he falls on his face off the line. my Bullitt will do the same thing unless you hold down the traction button 15+seconds.
Amazing how well Bmw performs even when underpowered against the competition.
"under-powered?" ...since when? I don't know How the heck, European mfg's dyno their cars, (or even the Japanese for that matter).
@Peter P. look at the stats dude American car makers are behind like 20 years in everything Europeans do.
same thing Ferrari said back in 1966.. Ford said 1st, 2nd, 3rd.... :) .....Then did it again 67, 68, 69.

A stick sport car is about the driver from the launch. Good battle guys.
My money would go to the M4 (really M3 for me), even though it costs way more. I'd also do the M3 Competition with AWD then it's insanely quicker than even this M4.
You don't buy a mustang for the interior lol and tbh the s550 interior is a big step up from the s197
Wouldn’t the M4 Competition be more direct competitor for the GT350 than a regular M4?
Sure M4 comp auto vs GT350 manual…brilliant idea 🙄
Great video. Did you have the M4 in the all wheel drive setting for the dig race? If it wasn’t, then that was incredible for the M4 to pull like that.
It’s a rwd
Wing on the gt350 slows it down a lot when it comes to straight line racing
As well as the Gt500 splitters up front.
The GT350 was bogging out on the launches. I'm thinking if the driver would have known how to get out of the hole better the 350 would have won those races also. The 350 puts out more HP and torque than the M4.
the beemer is one wicked car, but i would still take the shelby any day of the week. It just has more soul to it
