- In the four years we had our 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, we used it as any good owner should: by racing it against anything and everything we could find with even remotely comparable performance stats … always on a closed track, of course. Our GT500 might not have taken every race win, but it definitely stole our hearts. Ford better have something really special in mind if it plans on replacing one of the best muscle cars ever made. Leave us a comment about what you'd like to see.

Corvette E-Ray would be Interesting, especially with the new 911.
There was a press release not to long ago and it clearly stated that
Ford has no plan whatsoever to ever do away with the Mustang and the V8 engine.
They will continue to build both.😎
In my opinion it would have been a little more fair to throw a wayy better tire like a MT ET street or a Toyo r888 on the Shelby for those awd or rear mourn engine races!!
my dad just passed away Friday June 21sr and he loved these matches being a ford guy. He has a 72 Ford Gran Torino with the supercharged 5.4L shelby gt500 engine called project breathless. Checked it out its an amazing car that he actually pulled apart to make better at his passing. I would love to find someone that would put it together for our family to continue to spread awareness of pulmonary fibrosis which he caught fro. oils he was working with at a factory he worked at. he had the car since he was 17 and I always wanted to see his new dream of it come true.
So sorry to hear about your dad’s passing.
I hope you find the right person to finish the project. My dad died of pulmonary fibrosis in November 2020. Horrible condition. All the best!

My husband had a GT500 2008 Shelby. When he passed I gave it to our son. Great car!!
The GT 500 is definitely my all time fav muscle car.
Especially its aggressive rumbling at a low speed rolling, sounding like a helicopter. What a machine

I like how they switch drivers between races, in order to prove that the driver doesn’t matter. Race 2 is always the same result.
Also impressed that Hagerty stopped filming long enough to let Edmunds shoot some videos at Willow Springs.
Actually they switch drivers because one of them is a better driver and it's noticeable. The results on race one and two are never the same as the distance is typically either bigger or smaller depending on the results of the first race. But yes the track is simple enough that even with that the car typically beats the better driver.

GT500 is really not a dig/launch car. Most things take it off the line.
On the highway or any roll on speeds it’s literally a super car killer. Absolute weapon.
Mine hooks up from 1st gear doing a 20-40mph roll no problem (live in a warm climate). 60 roll is where it really shines.

Im a chevy guy own a gen 6 camaro but i still like the mustangs. Specially the GT 500 if i could own them all the GT 500 would be one of the cars at top of my list. The Z06 won the race here but it should. GT 500 held its own definitely a awesome car. With a little aftermarket work the GT 500 really comes to life for the money definitely one of the best cars out there.

The Shelby GT500 is my favorite performance car on your channel. I was amazed with it's top end speed and the GT500 cornering . I'm wonder how many sets of tires did you use on the GT500.

I have a 21 GT in the same color orange. It's a 6 speed car and fast enough for me, i really wish i wouldn't have went with orange though, i get pulled over almost every weekend.
When it comes to launching a Shelby GT500 you definitely need a better driver than any of them, launching an all-wheel drive and a four-wheel drive, it's like having training wheels on bike. A perfect launch would have destroyed the Corvette ZO6.
I doubt it. ZO6 launch great and get faster as speed climbs.

Why did it downshift? Why were you in auto and not manual in a roll race
These races really show that having that weight over the rear with Mid or Rear engine placement make a huge difference for getting off the line. Hoping one of the new owners of a GTD let you guys put it through it's paces to see how that rear transaxle does once it ships out to customers.
You should check out some Porsche launch vids maybe in slow mow if you haven’t. I seen a high higher end street model and you could seen how nasty the launch is. Looks like it would rattle your teeth

That base corvette is such a bargain.
I own a GT500 and launching with tc on and off will cut your 0-60 time down considerably.. you have to turn the full esc off on these things to get the most power/ performance out of them. Trust me makes a difference

(Asking from USA) Is the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 the best STOCK "roll-race"/Highway race car (quickest from about 40 - 120 MPH/65 - 195 KPH) in it's price range? What STOCK car can decisively/consistently beat it from 40-120 MPH/65-195 KPH that's EQUAL price or CHEAPER?

@@carguy7627 they're going from a GT500 which is substantially faster than a supra and an emira. The fact both of them would be left so far behind on even mundane cars now like a Kia ev6 or m3p. It would be backwards to go there. They need something that's at least in the low to mid 11s so it stays relevant in the next couple years.

If you have the budget. A GTD would be an interesting replacement. Otherwise you'll need to wait until model year 2026 for the S650 GT500 or go with the new S650 Shelby Super Snake.
GT500 won some good races I don't like Chevy but that Vette was cool I'd give it that. I'll still take GT500 over all the cars no matter what.
E-Ray? R1T quad? Lucid Sapphire? 911 GTS T-hybrid?

Ever consider a power to weight ratio U-drag? Meaning race cars with the same PTWR but like RWD vs AWD or FWD vs RWD or front engine vs mid engine, etc.
I hope a 120k car can beat a 70k car. some of these races are not in the same class. I would like to see a Ford GT race a ZO6 being as though they're both mid-engine cars
Considering the Z06 is a new current model. The newest Ford GT Supercar is the final edition Ford GT MK IV with 800+ Horsepower. The issue is the cost of that hand-built Track Monster.

I’m saving my money and going for the Corvette E-Ray. Even tho it beats the Mustang Shelby GT500, the 500 definitely has my respect 🫡 ✊🏾 and I’d always respect it and be a fan. Matter fact, it doesn’t matter what you drive, the Shelby GT500 is a monster with that pedal. Even if you can beat it, you gotta respect it!
If Ford would have fixed the launch delay and dropped about 500 pounds,I think in a lot of cases it wouldn’t have lost. Of course 760 HP wheel rear drive.
We’re at the point where these cars are now so fast we should be doing mile drags.

It's actually quite sad that FOMOCO had to do over 30 spinoffs and different models just to even compete with anyone else. Kind of embarrassing honestly. I sold my mustang last year and will never turn back. Money guzzling rust bucket. 🤮

Also, in the rolling race it could only beat the entry-level version of Porsche and Corvette. In short, the Shelby is still a car with a fairly normal performance.

No need for dreaming about expensive sports cars that break the bank in not just up-front cost, but on-going repairs and maintenance. Nope, I paid 42,980 out the door for my Model Y Performance... it smokes the lot of them and I rarely need to spend more than 30 dollars a MONTH in electricity costs. No maintenance. Maybe in another year or two I will shell out 1500 for tires, and another set prior to the 5 year mark, but thats about it. Now, on to something much more important and convicting: don't let your car become an idol to you. If you clean your car more than once a week, think about driving more than eating, will spend whatever it takes to make it look, sound, and perform better, including using money and time that otherwise would be used on your wife- congratulations, you may as well be worshipping a Hindu god.

which car because the hellcat black ghost makes 807hp gets smoked in straight line and couldn't take a turn if your life depended on it. while ford with the same weight was able to get the gt500 get around a track faster than or tie cars like Ferrari f8 tributo Lamborghini huracan evo and porsche gt3rs (prior gen) and just 10k in minimal upgrades they can make over 1000whp and run mid to low 9s beating a drag focused car like the dodge demon.

the little guy on these videos is the worst driver. always the slowest to react to the start, always the worst launcher, always the worst turner. His only 'skill' is that he's 5'5" and weighs 50lbs less than the other normal sized drivers.
