Finally my best girl Aoko getting the spoylight after so long Again i hope it gets enough success for a TsukiRe translation and sequels, so that TM knows we care bout VN, coz im waiting for Mahoyo 2 and 3 way more than whatever's happening on FGO
I put off watching this until i finished reading it for myself. Took me over a year to get around to it, but you're my first stop afterward. Loved the story, Aoko might have reached Waifu level, and now i suddenly have opinions about when they add her to FGO.
I played this game like few months back. One of the best VN from type-moon. Also, Aoko best girl indeed. - Started this game on january 2023. - Finished the story on march-april 2023 but didn't finished the epilogue due to FGO NA/JP colab shenanigans. - Finally finished the epilogue (bad ending then good ending), while waiting for LB 6 part 3 on NA on july.
I'm kinda biased for Touko because I feel like she deserves the Win due to all that impressive grit, preparation and determination to become one of the top mages in the world. But of course, because she is Not the protagonist the story automatically flips a misfortunate loss on her. What I am more curious about is how do the Aozaki sister finally resolve their tension in the near-future since the Extra-verse timelines spoilt a possibility of them somewhat getting along. Soujuro is one of the most bizarre existences of all, so being out of touch from modern society makes anyone capable of harming a nigh-invulnerable wolf spirit?
I just finished the main story on new year's eve and imho it indeed is the BEST STORY Nasu has ever written. It serves as a good introduction for the Nasuverse and benefits a lot from its simplicity. Nasu managed to avoid the pitfalls he falls victim to in his other works. No forced romance (although it feels like Nasu intended to ship Soujuurou with the "witches" but restrained himself at the last minute), no overly long lore and info dumps, no badly written hentai scenes, no pretentious rambling over ideals, no edgelord-moments for the sake of being edgy. Just Aoko, Alice & Soujuurou being themselves and interacting with each other & the support cast. I also liked Touko as a villain. Idk why people claimed that MahoYo made them look at Touko in a different way regarding how she was portrayed in KnK. In both works Touko has the exact same personality. It's just that her rivalry with Aoko comes into play here. That being said, Aoko is easily the best Type Moon protagonist (sry not sorry Shirou-stans) and is the best TM "tsundere" too. There I said it. She's essentially Rin, but even meaner at times. With her only being good at destruction and how she's treated as this feared student council president, her very outgoing/energetic and downright aggressive attitude makes her stand out much more compared to the rather reserved protagonists Nasu usually writes. It kinda reminds me of how Falcom wrote Estelle Bright in the Kiseki series. Alice on the other hand is just precious. Both were wholesome female leads. The biggest surprise for me was the church father though. Eiri Fumizuka was so based. Imagine Kirei but more bi-shounen. His dialogue with Soujuurou in Chapter 11 was one of my favorite scenes. MahoYo also has my favorite ending. Soujuurou and Aoko just talk and wonder over the future, ending with Soujuurou's "happy new year". And then the supercell song kicks in. I really liked the underlying theme of the story (the uncertain march into the future). The fights between the magicians were good as well. Not as over the top as FSN or TsukiRE but you can follow what happens. For me, Mahou Tsukai no Yoru is easily Nasu's magnum opus. MahoYo stays consistently good while his other works have higher highs but infuriating lows at times. Now I'm interested in the sequels.
I think Mahoyo "avoids" all the pitfalls because it was originally written completely free of any thoughts about selling it or even fan appeal. The original version was published in 1996 (2 years before even the original release of KnK as a web novel on the original Bamboo Broom website) and all the "books" released were a few made at copy shop. Tsukihime was written to sold at a convention as a fan project, and even KnK was put up on a website to represent Nasu and Takeuchi. I guess the original Mahoyo was the most "pure" of Nasu's works to be completed [not talking about the Old Fate ideas developed even earlier as that was never completed before Type Moon returned to it], given that it lacked additional years of exposure to the anime/manga fandom and it's trends (though I won't deny that Nasu had already some experience when the wrote the original Mahoyo in his early 20s). And I guess Nasu wanted to really capture that same feeling with the released VN version. That being said, I do like the more recent works as well, so I don't think Nasu's writing has really been "spoiled" by those additional experiences. I enjoy the new Tsukihime as well, and honestly, to me it is just as good (albeit different) from Mahoyo - all that it lacks is the ingenious directing of Tsukuri Monoji who made practically every shoot in Mahoyo looking like a CG even even it was using sprites.
@@jkosch Well that's the difference between you and me. Unlike you, I don't like Nasu's recent works at all. If anything I think he got significantly worse or tries too hard to cater to the modern anime/manga fandom. Especially FGO and Tsukihime Remake are guilty of that. It hurts even more if one has read the original Tsukihime and sees what TM did to it and Melty Blood. Although I'm interested in the MahoYo sequels I expect them to be very similar to Tsukihime Remake. At least I can safely ignore them in that case and treat MahoYo 1 as a self contained story.
Shirou ( and Fujimaru ) is the worst protagonists in TYPE-MOON, for me. The whole idea of Shirou in the VN ( pulling humans and a Servant as harem is like the idea of a beginner mangaka who is trying to write a unintentionally generic isekai story with the MC being an edgelord and have hidden power and could overpower Servants when the freaking Rin Tohsaka ( the direct descendant from the three families that created the Holy Grail War, have a specialty in Jewel Magecraft that could be used as an offensive or defensive weapons and have access to Gandr Shots that is absolutely destructive and is similar to Aoko's Destruction Magic and could literally project the freaking sword of Zelretch, a weapon created by the wielder of Second Magic himself and almost defeated Angra Mainyu + Greater Grail Corrupted Sakura who is said to have reached a TRILLION Magical Units during the final fight of Heaven's Feel route if it weren't for her intentionally lowering her guard down ) couldn't do the same shit as Shirou can do. He's an edge-lord, a reincarnation of those mediocre and trash male MC from generic isekai anime who is "i'M wEaK, bUt tHerE's a hIddEn tAleNt iNsiDe mE tHat cAn mAke mE sO pOweRfUl iT can aTtrAct hArem aNd dO whAt tHe briGhtEst mAge iN mY eNtIrE fReaKinG gEnerAtIon of mAgUseS cAn't dO". Thankfully Kara no Kyoukai and Witch on The Holy Night is there to show that female MCs can be more competent and doesn't need to be a fantasy-derived cringe edgelord who is "tHe hErO oF jUstiCe". Cringe at the max.
I enjoyed this story a ton. It was a nice world to build up on and a semi prequel to both knk and tsukuhime but honestly I enjoyed it as much as knk. I really hope the movie is split into parts as ufotable will need the time as even hf had to cut so many corners despite being in 3.
In regard to Heaven's Feel, they actually said they explicitly chose to do it as a cinematic production, rather than a fleshed out story, in order to go all in on budget for every iconic fight and moment. UBW and Zero were meant an introduction for those new to the Fate series, but the HF movies were done as a love letter to fans of the VN.
@@caster269 ubw was both a love letter to the fans and good introduction at the same time I mean only real fans would have appreciated the epilogue as it's basically canon material to ha and a good connection to zero anime as those two got so much work done. Even the ova material is done well with sunny days and the grail Kun explained with taiga Hf is just lacking in substance being more set pieces and forcing Sakura on screen when it contradicts the entire point of how the story went so I'm worried on how mahoyo is going to go by that logic being a movie.
Just some trivia, Mahoyo can't happened in knk timeline... Why? Because according to knk timeline, aoko was younger in the knk timeline for some reason...
@@ShinJack_ honestly I just chalk it up to being like zero where it's a "past" that is sorta what happens as nasu isn't good at being consistent. @@ivanbluecool found the source > Nasu: Other than that... oh, right, there's Aoko's age. If Rakkyo and Tsukihime were the same world then Aoko would only be a little bit older than Tohno Shiki. The Aoko in Rakkyo has not yet gained the title of "Miss Blue", and is still training in Misaki Town. From the KnK movie pamphlet Q&A.
Soujuro, could no- MIGHT be the first user of the legendary skill that is Harem Protagonist EX, well Harem Protagonist A+ at least. I mean to pull both Alice and Aoko is just too godly.
It wasn't much a harem or so. He's not even a main protagonist; he's a secondary protagonist. Aoko take that place as well as Touko. Soujuro is just merely a human plot device so the story between Aoko and Touko could continue on.
I wonder, which would win in a confrontation between Aoko bearing the full power of the Fifth Magic vs Goetia wielding the full force of Ars Almadel Salomonis, since they both operate under the pretense of manipulating/altering time via extreme heat values.
If I have to pick two favorite moments it would be the following: - Soujirou taking of his shirt… I mean come on! He’s ripped af, I always wondered before why he’s so bloody sexy. But now with his past revealed, it makes sense. (My BL Horny levels are rising.) - Alice’s deployment of “Flat Snark, Oil of the Moon”: not only was it a marvel to look at, but how the reality marble create an endless amount of mystery which also transform structures into animate units for combat.
Nah fr, Soujuurou was beyond jacked, had Aoko, Alice, and myself staring. And the fight in the amusement park was also my favorite (I have a heavy Alice bias so seeing her fight and creating the whimsical world with Flat Snark was gorgeous)
Yep him and his clanbro Kuzuki are sexy as hell oh newsflash him Souichirou from Fate are canonical as relative's as in come from the same village as they're fighting styles are exactly the same actually
Mine is Aoko and Soujuurou's convo in chapter 11, Aoko showing her confidence despite her current state and everything she and Alice had againts them was incredible but the best part was, without a doubt, Soujuurou, his response it's what makes him my favorite protagonist "I know you just said something beautiful, but i don't understand" pure peak
Wow I actually saw more of this story than I thought when the non official stuff was translated. I got up to right before touko was formally introduced but knew the stuff after the epilogue somewhat Yeah I love this story a lot and wish it was an anime instead but my guess is that's going to be reserved for tsukuhime as like ubw it's an introduction to an entire franchise and mahoyo is not as big to both knk and tsukuhime. Surprised you didn't bring up the way aoko acts around people which like Rin makes senses to how they treat shirou and sojurou and normal people being magus and it made me like the story more as it's basically a good way to show even while close magus have to put up barriers between them and humans. Hopefully like Nero chaos we can see these characters in part 3 of fgo if they go different universe way instead of timeline what ifs Instead. I'd love a whole alice aoko sequel storyline. Also don't know why but i always enjoy the arc/illya pose takeuchi and nasu seemingly love on most characters
What I know before watching the video: Aoko Aozaki is a young magus who was chosen to succeed her grandfather as the inheritor of the Aozaki family magic crest. Her elder sister Touko was enraged to be passed over and was believed to have murdered Grandpa Aozaki in retaliation but that was actually a friend of Touko’s. Aoko lives with a witch named Alice Kuonji, who uses strange magical traps called Ploys, some of which are alive in a sense. Aoko’s magecraft is witnessed by a young man named Soujuurou who Aoko and Alice attempt to capture to erase his memories. When Aoko and Alice come to disagree on how to progress, Alice traps Aoko and Soujuurou in an amusement park with one of the strongest of her Ploys called Flat Snark. Aoko eventually realizes that Flat Snark has impersonated the full moon and they are in danger of being annihilated by its massive strike. In desperation, Aoko calls upon hidden reserves of strength and unconsciously channels the Fifth Magic. After this, Aoko and Alice agree to host Soujuurou temporarily while researching a method of removing his memories. Aoko is attacked by a frightful doll that bears a resemblance to her, and it is revealed at the climax that Touko sent it to try to kill her. Touko herself attacks using a massive array of magic crests taken from other magi with the aid of a powerful Elemental named Lugh Beowulf, who is NOT a werewolf but similar to one. Soujuurou reveals he is a practitioner of “Snake,” the same martial art used by Souichirou Kuzuki and deals Lugh a devastating (but non fatal) defeat, the first he’s ever experienced. Touko murders Soujuurou in retaliation and Aoko properly uses the Fifth Magic to save Soujuurou then defeats and curses Touko so she cannot attack again for many years. I don’t believe they mentioned it in the story but Touko weaseled out of the curse by killing herself and swapping into another of her doll bodies. Aoko eventually finds a memory removing spell but chooses not to use it and presumably stays friends with Soujuurou. I’m sure I missed quite a bit, but let me know how much.

We… are still unsure. Nasu claims that the events of Mahoyo are a blueprint to the basis of the rest of the works. But the events are slightly different in all timelines. For example, the year does not fit with the Tsukihime world any longer, and it never fit KnK.
@@abarr2951 Might I add he has renewed his mention of wanting to write the Mahotsukai sequel, so we may get a better grasp of how it fits then (Nasu likes releasing side material that clears up things like that).

They THOUGHT it was 'cause Soujuurou is dumb but as it was revealed later, even sister Yuika whose senses are enchanced could not sense him. Probally because of his training in the mountain which made him almost "nothing" before he gained a "self" for some reasons.
Last time I was so early only about half of Mahou Tsukai no Yoru had been translated into English. Last time I was so early Touko had a different hair length ... Last time I was so early Assassins raised in the mountains were more likely to team up with Greek instead of "Japanese" "witches".

@@otakudaikun It’s in the chapter around the big final exams part. Finally my best girl Aoko getting the spoylight after so long
Again i hope it gets enough success for a TsukiRe translation and sequels, so that TM knows we care bout VN, coz im waiting for Mahoyo 2 and 3 way more than whatever's happening on FGO
If Aoko and Alice were around during Tsukihime how would it go?
Aoko would cause chaos like in Melty Blood.
Cant wait for this series!
53:41 She's the legendary super saiyan
I'm kinda biased for Touko because I feel like she deserves the Win due to all that impressive grit, preparation and determination to become one of the top mages in the world. But of course, because she is Not the protagonist the story automatically flips a misfortunate loss on her.
What I am more curious about is how do the Aozaki sister finally resolve their tension in the near-future since the Extra-verse timelines spoilt a possibility of them somewhat getting along.
Soujuro is one of the most bizarre existences of all, so being out of touch from modern society makes anyone capable of harming a nigh-invulnerable wolf spirit?
well in clocl tower 2015 it does seems those two buried the hatchet
Finally, someone who appreciates Fumizuka like me, can't wait to learn about him in the sequels
@@eclipsewaves … what?
Even the ova material is done well with sunny days and the grail Kun explained with taiga
Hf is just lacking in substance being more set pieces and forcing Sakura on screen when it contradicts the entire point of how the story went so I'm worried on how mahoyo is going to go by that logic being a movie.

- Alice’s deployment of “Flat Snark, Oil of the Moon”: not only was it a marvel to look at, but how the reality marble create an endless amount of mystery which also transform structures into animate units for combat.
Nah fr, Soujuurou was beyond jacked, had Aoko, Alice, and myself staring.

Yeah I love this story a lot and wish it was an anime instead but my guess is that's going to be reserved for tsukuhime as like ubw it's an introduction to an entire franchise and mahoyo is not as big to both knk and tsukuhime.
Surprised you didn't bring up the way aoko acts around people which like Rin makes senses to how they treat shirou and sojurou and normal people being magus and it made me like the story more as it's basically a good way to show even while close magus have to put up barriers between them and humans.

What I know before watching the video:
Aoko Aozaki is a young magus who was chosen to succeed her grandfather as the inheritor of the Aozaki family magic crest.

@@lenleon3699 What scene was that?
@@otakudaikun It’s in the chapter around the big final exams part. If I recall it served as the follow up to Alice visiting the library and it centered around Alice noticing Shizuki cleaning the yard. The scene also had a portion dedicated to Alice’s backstory and how her family venerated unicorns or something like that (and that his dad and grandfather where, as per usual for mages, just jizz banks to create a heir).
Honestly, I have no idea why the scene was removed, other than maybe Nasu retconned it.
