"I have so many questions.....and I've forgotten all of them so let's go back to watching them" and i immediately smashed that like button 😂 entertaining
It's going hard is the short answer. There are lots of grades of horse hair used to make bows, each has a unique sound so the ease of fraying has a lot to do with the sound you are trying to get as well a just playing hard. their cover of thunderstruck is pretty epic.
these guys are unlimited if i could watch no other music for the rest of my life i would be happy watching these guys, all their styles and collaborations
It's one thing to watch their music videos (which are bomb, by the way)... it's another experience entirely to watch a live performance. 10/10 would recommend 🤘
As a cellist, I can tell you that what the are playing is so technically insane it raise it 100 levels. They go through several bows a show because they play so hard and close to the bridge in order to get the guitar sound. Check out their very first video "Welcome to the Jungle," "Despacito," and "Thunderstruck" if you want your mind blown!
Hi I just want to say that I am from Croatia and I am soooo happy that you react to this two amazing guys...I love them so much because they are so talented and their performances are so unique....The truth is that Dimash brought me to your channel and since I am fan of Dimash I subscribed and now new surprise...2Cellos hahha....great reaction and looking for more Dimash and 2 Cellos soon...Greetings from Croatia :))))))))))))9
The frayed bowstring happens gradually when anyone plays with strings, but they play really aggressively and end up breaking the fine hair (usually horsehair I believe) as they go. While I haven’t seen them live (though I was supposed to a couple years ago), I would assume that they have to get a new bowstring every 1-2 songs.
Saw them live and they are insane. They did not get a new bowstring every 2 songs, but they still changed them quite often. They just shred them. I saw them with a full live orchestra and their drummer that is also unreal. One example here: ua-cam.com/video/nji5zvkuuFg/v-deo.html. Their are very funny and interact really well with the public. Unfortunately I saw them in Belgrade and they were speaking serbian so I could not understand a thing :)
@@sanja1313 Belgrade is in Serbia so I guess they either spoke in serbian or the public knew croatian. They are part of the former Yougoslavia so I guess they speak both? I do not know either so I couldn't tell.
Elton John performed with these guys, did an interview where he said he loved their passion for music (and wanted them in his band). They've got a video of a cover of Thunderstruck, which should not be missed. (And deeper down the rabbithole....)
When you thrash that hard with the bows, the horsehair that they are strung with tend to break. I imagine they have to switch to new bows a few times during a concert. Ending up with the frayed bows is sort of one of their signatures though.
I like your expression 👍🏻 It's the same as the crowd. First skeptical about classical music on a rock concert. And then the music kicks in your like Hell yeah 🤟🏻🤣
Just found your channel this week and I'm loving it! Please try out 2Cellos 'Thunderstruck,' too. It always makes me giggle, then bounce. And, yes, their bows are shredding because they're playing so intensely.
So I am like you I love all types of music. I came across Tokyo Myers. He won Britain’s got talent. His audition for the show is incredible. He is so talented and he just uses drums and piano. He layers them. But you will not be disappointed at all. Stay safe.
I’ve been watching a lot of reactors during this lockdown and you are the only one I’ve seen react to 2 Cellos. I would love to see you react to more of their brilliant music and amazing videos. Besides the one already mentioned, a couple of other great ones are They Don’t Really Care About Us and Smells Like Teen Spirit.
2Cellos are a real rabbit hole to dive into. They have covered songs by Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Sting, U2, Queen, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Johnny Cash and many others. They also recorded one whole album with soundtracks only. I'd recommend also watching their earlier videos which lack in technical backup but are full of ingenuity, wit and humor. F.e. their cover of Johnny Cash's "Hurt" or Mombasa from the movie Inception.
Alright. The Trooper is one of my favorite songs to listen to, espically when studying. When you have a spare chance please, please, please check out Peter Hollens and Tim Foust's covers of Misty Mountains and Sound of Silence!!! Tim has such a deep rich voice and harmonizes SO WELL with Peter.
The bows break gradually, especially with their aggressive style. They do an awesome rendition of Thunderstruck. Another idea for your world tour: Loïc Nottet - Million Eyes. Loïc is an amazing, multitalented guy from Belgium
Anytime you blend classical and metal you have definitely got my attention, and as expected they did not disappoint. Boys shredded the heck outta their poor bows, though.
Bow hairs (horse tail hair often) break occasionally. The way they play, they go through about a bow per number. One guy is from Serbia, the other from Croatia. Both are conservatory trained. Shortly after their Smooth Criminal video, Elton John hired them to join his band on tour. They are wonderful!
So happy to see you do this, and so hope you do more. The bow is fraying because of the way they play. They probably spend a fortune on bows. Thank you & you have a new subscriber.
Check out Thunderstruck 2 cellos play with 16th century clothes. I cried and laughed at the same time. Notice the audience at the end of performance!!!
These guys are grandmaster cello players (like Kevin from Pentatonix, by the way, who created his own technique called cello-boxing which is a mix of beatboxing while playing cello). They went from acoustic to electric cellos in this. Watching these guys in concert is like watching a rock band play. You definitely need to listen to Purple Haze (Yes THAT Purple Haze!) and Thunderstruck. They've got Guns n Roses covers. They toured with Elton John for a while before going on their own. The start of their popularity was when they uploaded them playing Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal.
Now you have another concert to get tickets for when concerts are a thing again. 😉 I'd like to see them sometime myself. If you are a Pirates of the Caribbean fan check out their rendition of the theme music for that.
@@aniasplit54 They came to my hometown last year as part of their tour. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go. I did read where they plan to reunite in 2021 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the duo. The same story made mention of doing both individual projects as well as 2Cellos after that but for now they aren't planning any major tours together. We can all hope they decide to tour again someday.
I'm sorry there is no more 2CELLOS. They disband some time ago. But there is some good music of this guys. I suggest you to check MV for "Game of throne". It's really great. Love from Croatia.💜
I really enjoy your enthusiasm for music! As a professional musician I appreciate what you're doing! I think you're fantastic! If you haven't done twenty one pilots heathens, you should! Also, Aha! by Pentatonix is an early some of theirs and one of my favorites. Their Christmas stuff is also amazing! Keep up the good work!
Brother I am enjoying these videos with artists I would never normally hear. So will recommend one that you might already know but if ya don't he is one hell of an artist. A beat boxer from down under Tom Thumb. His rendition of Grandma's hands is just amazing.
For the bow it can happen to have some that brake off sometimes but for them it clearly is a artistic choice. You can go years without any hair breaking normally. It is a way to rock 🤘
I'd watch their cover of Highway to Hell with Steve Vai, it's kinda awesome. I'm also partial to their version of Despacito and the Game of Thrones theme
Have you heard of Apocalyptica? They were some of the first that played rock on the cello and made it popular a couple decades ago. They covered a lot of Metallica as well as produced some original pieces.
Now that you know 2 cellos I would love to recommend Lola Astanova from Uzbekistan. She is a pianist and has a duet with Stjepan Hauser ( the one in this video who crowd surfs with his cello) where they cover Bohemian Rhapsody. Maybe it will add another pin to the map.
Hey Jase, 2Cellos were together for close to 10 years and they have now both gone solo. They are extraordinary.Believe it or not they are better live! Try Mombasa in Japan or Highway to Hell , Smooth Criminal. They have a huge catalogue. You can't go wrong watching and hearing them.
The hair on the bow is made from the tail of the horse as it is corse-microscopically curls. By playing so aggressively, these hairs break even on violins.
Again, hot damn! Another awesome group to check out! The cello was played so hard that the strings were breaking under the friction. It's common but not to that extent unless you're playing that instrument hard! Okay, since you enjoyed this one I have a couple for you to check out: 1) Kevin Olusola (PTX) cover of Down where he is insanity on the cello and 2) Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling (violinist) and Lzzy Hale (Halestorm). She's not just any violinist but considers herself a dubstep violinist who was classically trained (like Kevin) and is amazing! Great suggestions and a great reaction! 🤘
I have watched tons of their videos...they are classically trained but can play ANYTHING. The frayed bows are just what happens when they play hard...they simply restring them.
Horse hair between two clips under tension is how cello bows are made. Over time and use, it's normal for an occasional bow hair to come out of the clip. However, the physical intensity that these guys are using destroys the bow hair fast. My daughter plays cello. Cellists pretty uniformly react first to the music and then comment "those poor bows!"
Their version of Thunderstruck is insane, you should definitely watch that.
Seconded.
YES its my favorite from them
My favorite of theirs

They also do have a tendency to break their bows though lol 😂
Played Cello In High School And Had A Bow With Worn Hairs And The Harder I Played It WOULDN'T Squeal! They Use Their Bows UP!!
