Avi freaking rocks! So good.
Let's set this comment section ablaze - tell me a joke. tell me an interesting fact (does not need to be about Avi, or music at all). Tell me a short story. Go!
🤘
He is also doing livestreams from his home right now. He is doing acoustic versions of his solo work and HIS VOICE IS GLORIOUS. Wow! Seboss12 is posting them to you tube and there are some on his channel as well.
Geoff Castellucci, the bass from Voiceplay, created the arrangement for Home Free's cover of Elvira ft. the Oak Ridge Boys. It's amazing!
All vocal is Avi.. No many instruments..
If memory serves me right Avi won the first ever award for human bass guitar, and is a classically trained opera singer. During the competition show "The Sing Off" Avi and Kevin got to be know as "Meat and Potatoes"because of the way they held down rhythm section in Pentatonix.
Avi did all the vocal tracks, including the killer bass undertones. There are instruments, mainly percussion, playing. Live version includes keyboard, drums, bass and electric guitars.
Check out Full Moon to hear more of his higher range. He has an acoustic version - with him playing the guitar while singing.
Does anybody else listen to this song & suddenly feel the urge to grab a Viking Axe & go sack a small village right quick?!
BLM must've heard it.
Brother Lets go make the All Father proud :)
I'm getting Thorin Oakenshield vibes here
No.Not like that. But a iconic song to take the US back from JB and to support DT -if nevcessary via civil wars
Lol
Avi's voice is dark chocolate for the soul and melted caramel for the ears.
Excellent description 😌🙂
Add a cup of black coffee to that and I'm in.
Mmmm yes.
Lol...so true...great way to word the love..😍😍😍😍💜💜💜💜
He's like a strong coffee to the soul
"My brain stops working when this guy's voice is on."
Exactly.
He looks like one of those crazy hermits who has just come down from the mountain with a message from God.
Hell yeah he does, and the message is "change is coming! You punks better get ready!" Yes, sir.
I’d listen 😂
Your not far from the truth. He spent quite sometime after leaving pentatonix in seclusion finding him self. His music is a reflection of that.
Avi did all the tracks (bass, high-ish second voice, instruments, all that)
I may be wrong, but in more than one comment from Avi, there is an organ and a drum accompanying him. It’s very subtle though. Most of it is just Avi.
@@jeancaldwell5391 You're not wrong. I think there's more percussion than just a drum, but he tweeted right after the premiere that he uses some percussion and "a little bit of organ," but that all the vocals are him. My impression is that he didn't necessarily PLAY the organ and percussion (though I'm sure he could).
really
@@janetranslates not sure if he can play the organ, but I bet he did the percussion by himself, in Pentatonix he used to do some minor stuff to assist Kevin in the percurssion so I guess he can handle it
He has a band... He did all the main vocals and lower back vocals at the beginning of the 1st and 2nd verse. But his band does the main backing vocals
If he wants to hear the other side of the scale we should have him listen to Aha! By pentatonix
Taylor May Aha! LIVE in Singapore at the Star Vista to be exact 😉
Pleeeease
Yes!!! This would be amazing!!
Megan and at this performance avi almost blows the speakers with his low not at t he beginning!!
YES! That one is intense asf
Yes he’s doing the bass notes underneath him singing
🤯
It's not that your brain stops working when you hear him...it's that he speaks directly to the primal part of your soul.
Pentatonix - Aha Singapure, would be amazing to see you react to Avi's lowest note I ever heard.
Like if you agree Pentaholics
Can't go in there yet! Need to check out superfruit first to appreciate everything in Aha! Singapore. Get more intimate with them first.
The note in aha is definitely not his lowest lol.
Natural disasters Springfield could compete with that
Aha is mind blowing!!!!
Actually his lowest note ever is in this song. A growled C1
Wanna see more with Avi ?
Dance of the sugar plum fairy, PTX.
Just, that song
YES I love it
;)
YES
YAS
YES!!
Avi is my FAVORITE! He does not disappoint. I love how you’re being sucked in like the rest of us. Also, listen to Pentatonix AHA live in Singapore. You. Will. Die.
Yes! Aha!, Singapore live is so fucking good.
Its a twofer, so need to be brushed up on superfruit as well before going into that one in order to appreciate it in its totality.
Yes!!! I need this reaction!!!
yes, yes, YES!!!!! that is my favorite video to exist EVER!!! it does not dissapoint
Peter Hollens and Avi Kaplan in Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair.
Was gonna suggest this!
Yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!
YYYYAAAASSSSSSSS
I think that Black is the Color... is the best thing Avi has done. Peter is also remarkable. I watch it every few days.
Most definitely! Beautiful!
everyone in unison: THANK YOU LEESSLIIEEEEE!
It's really an insidious song, isn't it? You think it's kinda slow and nice, but you'll find it running through your head at odd times and then you have to go back and listen to it again. That's what makes it awesome.
"The Summit" by Avi is also very good and shows his super deep voice off quite nicely.. Not to mention his crazy range.
I played that song for my mom and she had a hard time believing it was the same person singing!
@@professionalvampire1 Honestly I have been a huge fan of Avi for years and I had a hard time believing that both parts were Avi lol
That and “Chains.”
I love that song. 😍😍
Avi also does a pretty cool thing called overtone singing where he actually sings two notes at once. There are a bunch of videos out there of it
I was going to comment about his overtone singing. He's only scratched the surface with Avi's talents! Everyone from PTX is so multi talented.
@PentaholicSPN FAMILYPotter Head Seriously! I mean, have you heard Kevin's solo stuff?? And he speaks Mandarin AND was premed before getting with PTX AND has perfect pitch? Mitch's inhuman range and insane runs?? Kristin's whistle notes and Broadway vocals?? And don't even get me started on Mr. Soulful Scott and his insanity... It's like the stars aligned with them.
@PentaholicSPN FAMILYPotter Head No, I gotcha. It's annoying how brilliant they all are. My comment was highlighting each of their talents stressing on how annoying it all is they're so amazing. Seriously, stars aligned. Not sure when that's happened before or when something like that will happen again.
Jeline Nanashi also Kevin can play cello right?
Isha Valluri yes!! And he plays BEAUTIFULLY 😍
It's not acappella but there are only a few instruments, mainly percussion. All voices are Avi's. Bass too, obviously!
Maria Moumtzi *Aviously 😏
Based on the sound, I think most if not all of the percussion was body percussion, like claps, stomps, finger snaps, and probably chest thumping for the "bass drum". The only thing I can hear that is definitely an instrument is a keyboard or synth in the bridge section.
@@BusinessCasualLabCoat This will help anyone wondering...ua-cam.com/video/xNUXci7Lpq4/v-deo.html Also there are different occasions of him doing this song live.
@@mas719 Yeap, Aviously!!!
If you think you’re ready for it: Black is the Color (of My True Love’s Hair) - Avi and Peter Hollens
It is an incredible song.
Do it.
Yes, just love that one so much!
Avi Kaplan is SO RAD. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert DO IT! Not only is he an amazing musician but he is also a beautiful and kind man.
Rochelle Hershberger What she said!!!
If i were 25 years younger (and single+_...he'd be rejecting me right now! lol
I’d love to see him live, I agree that he seems such a lovely human being
For all of you who are still sad or upset that Avi left Pentatonix...this...THIS...is why! This is what he had been holding up inside of him for all those years. This song is EPIC!! All the vocals are Avi, no other backing vocalists. There is some musical accompaniment on this, as there are on all of his solo songs. No more a cappella for Avi, but the music he is creating now is powerful and MAGNIFICENT!!
He certainly did the right thing, PTX now have Matt. So a win all round to think we might not have got to hear the real Avi
Oh SHIT!! I've been sleeping on Avi as a solo artist. This is AMAZING. Truly the first I've heard Avi by himself. Love his voice. Love the song.
I should really be asleep right now. But I've stumbled across you on UA-cam. And now I'm rewatching all these lovely Pentatonix videos. And finally this amazing solo Avi song. 😍
I cant get enough of this song. Avi gives off serious Viking vibes in this I swear it ought to be a Viking anthem. As far as what Avi posted its all him.
2:02 That moment when Avi's lead vocals start, and you know you're in for it.
Avi is a god amongst men. Hands down my favorite artist.
One. Hundred. Percent.
It's so frustrating to actually feel someone to your very core and not have the words to describe that feeling. Avi does it every time I hear him! There's no one else like him. Don't think there ever was anyone before him and sure there will never be another one. This man is amazing!!
They very low bass warble is avi. Avi said in an interview that in all of his songs he loves to put that super low base line even if sometimes you cant hear it (in this you clearly can, but you know what I mean). He said that you sometimes dont notice it, but youd miss it if it wasnt there
Avi also does this very cool thing called overtone singing, which means singing two notes at the same time and can be hard to hear in songs that he uses it in because it blends in very well. It wasn’t in this song but it is in some of the Pentatonix songs from the past. You should check out a video about his overtone singing, whether on the channel or on your own. It is a really cool thing
Congratulations! You are one of the very few people to pronounce my name correctly!
Yes, but he wrote it wrong in the patreon list!
So I saw. He'll fix it, and even if he doesn't, it's no big deal.
What!? I did!? total facepalm moment...fixing now.
You want the bass? Check out "Chains" :) He also does a cover of Hey Ya, that demonstrates more of his range.
Seriously i JUST found all his new stuff like, 2 weeks ago.. the first time i heard 'Change.." I seriously cried. my heart about leapt out of my chest. It just started a huge rabbit hole,, ive been listening to all his new stuff lately. I am seriously blown away by this. he was my favorite in Pentatonix.. and now I know why he had to leave.. he was born for this..
So glad you found his music! It's wonderful isn't it!? He has been doing live acoustic versions from his home the last few weeks. They are so good!
A i is my favorite. I cried when he left PTX, but love love love what he has been doing Since!!! His voice is so so beautiful.
Totally agree
I'd like to recommend giving Kevin a watch, too; his studio performance KOvers are amazing.
My recommendation: Kevin Olusula - Down (Marion Hill KOver). Plus a challenge with that video: try not to let your mouth hang open when you watch it. ;)
Yaaasssss!!!
An absolute mandatory experience!!! I've watched his KOver of Sign of the Times 4 times today already, lol!!!
I recommended he check out KO too! I honestly don’t think he’ll be able to keep his jaw from hanging - I can’t! 😂🤩🤯
Definitely under appreciated in PTX
second this!!!
Great reaction! Avi did all of the vocals with just a couple of percussive instruments. Those low notes are him, and all of the layered harmonies
His vocals are phenomenal. The fact that he does layered vocal tracks in the background just really adds to it all.
Avi Kaplan “Otherside”. Sit back, close your eyes and let him take you away with him. Avi is amazing and I can’t wait to hear more 👍
Otherside is my alarm in the morning - I have my alarm set a few minutes before I /actually/ need to get up so I can just let it run
I'm so happy you are finally are watching this!
He also loops himself live to sing along to himself. It's a sight to behold.
Plus, yes, all the accompanying voices are him.
Please listen to his audio only Full Moon. You're welcome in advance.
QotD "My brain stops working when this guy's voice is on."--Jase 2020
--How every Avi fan feels and we totally enjoy it.
**btw, new subscriber here! You have great taste in music and great insight.
I have watched a ton of reactions to this video. The "head bob" always happens. Thanks for this reaction, loved it!!!
Now that you've heard Avi by himself, you should check out Scott Hoying's cover of I Should Tell Ya Mamma on You.
I second that!
I agree
Yesss!!! A must!!!!!
Please please do
I forgot that existed and you're bringing back some great memories
This was so awesome live at his London concert! The crowd was so wild lol
He is flat out wonderful in concert!! When he and the crowd get going it's the best. Plus, he's so nice and can be a funny goofball too.
He just released an EP and it's fantastic! Well worth checking out his solo music. Thank you to Leslie for her request. LOVE Avi. He had a 4 song live video from the youtube studios last month. All songs from the new EP. It was super. I was supposed to see him on the 1st but obviously cancelled. Was so disappointed as I was looking so forward to it. Saw him last year as well and it was a show to remember. Lovely man.
I agree. His live shows are unforgettable and the acoustic versions he does just blow me away.
I think my favourite Avi Kaplan song is 'Full Moon'. It has a sort of ethereal but haunting quality to it.
The really low stuff in the background is him. He did the same effect for the soundtrack of the move Blade Runner 2049. Look for the "Wallace Headquarters" version on u-tube and you'll here it there way at the bottom of your hearing, and not realize at first it's an actual voice... Avi's voice.
That's simply amazing to listen to.
You should really react to “Man of Constant Sorrow” or “Hillbilly Bone” both by Home Free
Joshua Braselton Tim Foust is a King. Not to mention Austin? ♥️
Yes! Pretty pretty please! I was a die hard PTX fan until i discovered Home Free... my favorites are Man of Constant Sorrow and Elvira.
Jase, you’ve been brought to another level of perfection!! Avi never disappoints!! With that said, you asked for a story(Avi-I’ll Get By).... Resonates so much with this song and video in many ways and years of my life.... My Sister was killed in a car accident on Mother’s Day, my Dad passed away on March 22,2013. My Younger Brother had a brain tumor removed and suffered a stroke during surgery that same year(November 4,2013). So now, in my life with the ones I Love Dearly(Mom,Brother, and My Brothers Son who is 7).... With All on my shoulders, “I’ll Get By”, is my “Theme Song”!!! Thank you Leslie for the request”Change on The Rise”!! Thank You Jase for Your Awesome Content and Reactions!! Much Love, Billy😌♥️
He has another song called “Otherside” that’s also fantastic but very different from this one, can we add that to the list?
👌 Specially that it was released right after this one 👀
He sang that on a live the other day. His voice was in a particularly low register that day. It was great!!!
@@michelegillespie1971 OMG I love his live acoustic work! When he changes up a song it's always fascinating to hear.
I always take this song and "otherside" together. This is the battle cry, the call to war and Otherside is the aftermath and someone in the battle breathing his last and asking to be taken to the other side 🤷♀️
Lesley Tate yesss, I like that
Avi is from Visalia, California, south of Sacramento, if you want to put that pin in your map.
Not far from Sequoia National Park, if I recall correctly!
This is so fabulous. "We're singin' all day and you can't tame it" has to be one of the best lyrics ever. That voice. Yum.
I'll add another Avi request, but it's not one that is mentioned here. The first solo single he released (well, Avriel and the Sequoias, which was his first solo project) was entitled "Fields and Pier". It is *not* a cappella (he plays his guitar throughout, there are strings, and Kevin's custom-tuned cello is heard as well), but it is a wonderful song. The scenery is lovely too--Avi searched for locations to film the video, and while much of it was filmed in Central California (where he grew up), the pier is in Oregon. It is very different from anything he ever did with Pentatonix, and is quite different from "Change on the Rise" as well (although, to be fair, *everything* he has done is different from "Change on the Rise").
My god, fields and pier is definitely my favourite song from Avi. It's so relaxing
You might put Peter Hollens on your list. Most of his stuff is human-voice only (a lot of covers, medleys, mashups, & a few parodies), and while he's done a number of colabs (including with Avi Kaplin & Tim Faust), most of his work is layered harmonies of... himself. Also, if you haven't already seen it: Weird Al-- Word Crimes.
Y e s #hollensfam
This is the content I subscribed for
He’s singing over himself, in loops. He does have back up singers, as well. He does have background musical instruments.
He only uses the band as backup singers in concert. In studio all the voices are him.
He gave a real eye opening interview to @Tommymarzband on @Soundvapors talking about how he does all his music. It's mindblowing how talented and creative he is.
When it was over you looked disappointed that it was over. i get that same feeling and watch it over again.
Avi is actually an incredible musician as well as a vocalist.
Fun fact, Avi is classically trained one voice. He can also do overtone singing.
Apparently he did that twice on sing off and the judges missed it both times
Seeing how both Avi and Kevin have stepped up to do solo work, I'd love to see them join up for an album. Call it KO Kaplan or M&P or whatever.
One of the reasons I love Fields and Pier is because its Avi and Kevin. I'm with you. I would LOVE to hear what they could do to a whole album.
The deep rumbling under his voice is still him he hits a C1 I belive maybe C#1
i love listening to ur reactions with avi singing he was also my fav from ptx u rock #jasenyoface
Avi Kaplan. “Quarter past four” is my favorite for hard times like this!
Avi is AMAZING each of his songs can be very different but they all have great messages. Not accapell in this some instrumentation, but ALL vocals are Avi.
Avi plays guitar for most of his songs.
So much more from him waiting for you to discover!
Chains by Avi Kaplan is amazing and gives me chills.
You need to see him live. Life changing!!
This has the depth of an old time spiritual. Wow.
There is a kick drum and and organ ....the rest is all Avi multi tracking. Yes that backing track has SICK bass.
as someone who has loved avi & pentatonix for YEARS i’m so happy to see someone fall for them as well! Avi uses instruments in his solo music but he does back himself up as well 😂 this is actually my son’s favorite song! sing the day he was born it calms him instantly! ❤️ you should also check out Avi’s song called It Knows Me.. even if not for a video.. just if ya love avi!
Aviation need more recognition he is phenomenal
On his studio tracks he does a bunch of layering/harmonizing with his own voice, mixes his low notes with instruments like cello, base drum etc, adds whatever he feels like to create the atmosphere he initially imagined for said song to have
At concert the arrangements are more "concert-y" (I think I don't know how to say), with band that changes, and his voice live is the frickin SAME quality if not better 👌🤩
Avi is doing all of the bass and vocals, the only instruments here are the percussion and the organ, but the rest is Avi’s voice. He goes really low here, C1 in growl and G#1 and probably one chest G1.
How did I miss commenting on this 'reaction' Jase it's obvious you 'get' Avi. This was written to tell us he's changed his direction and getting back to his roots. Such a powerful song. This is all Avi except for and organ he used and the clapping .....It's all him....Pay attention to when he sings the words...'We're going strong" the boom is not a drum it's his magnificent bass.....Ah love this man
Avi Kaplan. Tim foust. Geoff castelucci. They Lal so amazing. Voiceplay and homefree are mind blowing as you have seen voctave "come all year faithful" if you want some real goosebumps
Avi does the bass singing in the background. I think he had some percussion and another instrument added in as well. He does this in Live concerts as well, which I didn't get to go see, but there are some videos out there from Amsterdam and I think London as well from this year. TFS Avi is one of my favs!! Also, he released an EP in February.
You should react to more of Avi's music! Great Reaction!
Please check out his song "Otherside" it is such a change from his deep voice.
This would sound perfect for a theme song on one of those Alaska/Yukon survival shows
That is Avi doing it all, and blending it in...
AVI did all it!!! 💞 ALOHA FROM HAWAI'I 💞🌹 LYSSA 🌹
Avi kaplan and peter hollens - black is the color of my true loves hair. You will be blown away. I promise.
This song takes me to some warrior movie. Perfect song for going into battle (in my opinion). Also love Otherside and The Summit. Love the range of Avi!
ADORO SEUS REACTS DO AVI!!!!!! GREETINGS FROM BRASIL
Please react to Superfruit’s defying gravity! It’s Scott and Mitch from Pentatonix, I think you’ll like them!
I had the great pleasure of seeing him in concert in Chicago, March 2019. It was an amazing show. The best was when he did this song! It's awesome to hear it with headphone, but to hear it live is AMAZING!!! The whole song vibrated in you body but the deep bass REALLY rattled your chest!! We will absolutely positively be at his next concert!¡ You really should check him out in concert. You wont be disappointed.. Rock On!!
Avi sings his own base line! Goosebumps! The song is prophetic; more, his voice is a memorable and healing sound from another realm. As frequency is healing, so does Avi's vibrations hold us up, elevate us, We Are Risen. Avi unlocks a temporal door; we feel as powerful as that which comes through him.
You should listen to Say Something From Ptx. It’s just amazing, so much feelings it brings you to tears.
Thanks, Leslie
There are some minor percussion (tambourine) that isn't him. But otherwise this is all him. He layed tracks. Amazing!!!!
Yess , my favorite , you make my day :) :) !! I love his music (and him as a person as well ) , it's so different then with PTX ( which I love as well ), but his own music is more folk/bleugrass.
I love the tone of his voice, it's like dark chocolate :), so warm and rich !! He's a great vocalist , but does a lot of whistling in his songs and he can do overtone singing , you should check that out,
it's awesome !!
All the vocals you hear are his , there's only some organ in it and a tambourine I think. Other great songs are "Full Moon" , " I'll get by" , "Born in California" .
Well , actually every song of him is great ( sorry, I will stop fangirling now , LOL )
Full Moon has been my anthem lately. Well, more like the song that eases my stress and calms my soul.
@@jelinenanashi9466 I saw him singing this song with a choir a year ago on UA-cam and fell in love with the song right away. It made me so happy that it's on his new EP :) !
The acoustic version that he did on the you tube livestream with his band is my absolute favorite version of Full Moon. His voice was stellar in that one.
Thank you so much for reviewing that song! Avi has such a different style. So smooth.
YEEESSSS i've been waiting for this one!!!!! 😍
He sounds so amazing in this.
This song/video is bringing out the storyteller in me.
I see the young Avi leading a night time revolt against a powerful and reclusive man who has let his wealth distance him from the needs of the people. He wins the battle and gains the respect of the whole village, bringing him wealth and power, but as he ages, he finds that he loses touch with what the people want.
He retreats to his empty mansion in the woods only to look out one night and see his younger self leading a revolt against him. Even as his material wealth smolders around him he realizes that he changed nothing. He can only hope his next self will learn this lesson before it's too late.
I am so glad you came up in my recommendations! It's delightful to watch a person enjoy art with pure enthusiasm and no reservations. You're fun. :)
I would love to see your reaction to his song, "It Knows Me." He is so amazing!
I was doing my cosplay makeup while listening to this I ended up looking like a viking war paint everything ready for battle
You want some good Avi? "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" Avi Kaplan and Peter Hollens cover here on UA-cam.
Yo, I just discovered your channel and subbed right away
And also, Holy crap Avi is amazing
In the live version, you see Avi singing all of it. And the its looped
You are so damn adorable! I just love your reactions. :) Keep up the videos, love them!
This is All Avi !!!!!
Woah, that was amazing
