As a classical flute player myself, I can tell you that it feels ****ing incredible to play music like this. You feel like a badass instead of the "band geek" people usually label you as.
In school I played the brass instruments, tuba to trumpet. Trombone was my favorite... Anyway, for basketball games we had a small "pep" band. A drum set, one electric bass, one french horn, one each alto/tenor/baritone saxophones, and two each of trombone, trumpet, clarinet and flute. That was it. Typically the band played more "traditional" pieces, but in pep band we mostly played mostly top-40 and some classic rock or pop tunes. It was my favorite part of band.
My favorite type to play was the old big band music from the 1930's-50's. I think having well over 100 people play that is an incredible audio sensation. We might have been the band dorks to some, but I feel like we were the cool kids in school. We grew from 16 to 149 people in four years, and you don't do that without being cool. Great memories.
Played keyboards in a rock band later, but it was never the same magic.
I played the flute for a long time and I absolutely agree with this.
Stjepan is from Croatia, Luka is from Slovenia, they met when they were very young in various cello competitions where they competed against one another but a friendship started and rest is history. Anyway, since 2cellos success it is very hard to get into a music school for cello here (in Croatia) - so many kids now wanna play the cello and it's such a wholesome thing. They inspired so many kids to pick up this beautiful instrument.
And the drummer, Dusan Kranjc, is also from Croatia.
Cello is severly under-rated. Never learned string instruments other than bass guitar. My main instrument (treble baritone) is in that same camp of obscure; can do a trombone tone with trumpet prescision, so much fun to play. I'd get into a local brass band if it wasn't so costly to buy a horn. :(
Luka is from Dubrovnik, Croatia and Stjepan is from Pula, Croatia.
LOVE the whole orchestra, but I think their songs with just the two of them are the most impressive because well.. ITS JUST THE TWO OF THEM and they recreate a whole ass song with 2 cellos. My fav is, and will always be, their cover of Smooth Criminal, you will loveeee it!
True! 🔥💯❤️
Drum shields help audio mixing of drums with quieter instruments or voices. It's hard to play drums and cymbals quietly! Great reaction, as always! Love your enthusiasm!
20 year audio tech here... you are sort of right... they isolate the drums so they need less gating and compression (2 different audio processors) and can sound more natural, and also isolates the other active mics from the drums controlling unwanted noise and feedback (many times a singers vocal mic will be picking up unwanted drum bleed)
Ah thank you ❤️🤘
@@kevinkarbonik2928 Thanks! That makes a lot of sense.
@@kevinkarbonik2928 Thanks for the info 👍 I try to learn something every day and you made that happen today.
2CELLOS and their amazing drummer are so great!
So awesome!
Your face. OMG. Your reaction was epic, passionate and genuine. 2Cellos are at the SSE arena in London in early June. So glad you reacted to this one after Thunderstruck. Please react to The Trooper next and then With or Without You. I can honestly say you have made my day with your energy at such a talented pair.
💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
2CELLOS are croatian duo, Stjepan and Luka! They're awsome, one of a kind duo in the whole world. They played all over the world and even the great Elton John loves them!
i have a crush on Stjepan !!!......can u tell me how to pronounce his name ???....Luka is pretty easy to say.....😉
@@cindyshawver9986 😁 Stjepan, you read j as in y in 'yellow'! I don't know if I was any help?!🙆♀️
Ah thank you! Wow they're incredible!!
@@cindyshawver9986 The literal translation of the name is Stjepan => Stephen
@@tihomirrasperic thanks, but i also want to know how to pronounce his Croatian name too.....that's how much i'm his fan !!....LOL
ah, when this was requested it should have been mentioned that there is an epic drum solo. Next you should check out their cover of Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson, and no there are no drum solos, not sure why the glass
😂 yeah didn't see that coming!!
The glass around the drummer is to limit "noise"
the drums interferes the orchestra, so in the orchestra drums they are usually behind
here they are in the middle of the orchestra
In addition, the orchestra "interferes" with the drummer
Glass directs sound upward to microphones
@@tihomirrasperic wow, thanks for the explanation
That version is on Glee the Tv show as well
@@georgerodz93 yeah with Santana and Sebastian?
Their Game of Thrones covers send me to another atmosphere
Ah can't wait to hear that!!
The video is filmed in Luka's hometown Dubrovnik, Croatia.
Dubrovnik is Kings landing in the series.
I think most musicians like to do a variety music. (Plus they just want to work)
❤️
Here's a fun little fact, Mozart had an extremely popular composition called "Lick my ass". Rockstars aren't a new thing, they just have new instruments.
Love 2Cellos!!! And I believe you would absolutely love Apocalyptica as well! They're a metal cello band from Finland and who has been around since 1993, so their musical catalog is vast. They have some tracks with lyrics but it's mostly instrumental, which includes a full Metallica cover album. Also, I'm just throwing this band out there, ONE OK ROCK. Not sure if you've heard of them, or if anyone has recommended them to you but they are a Japanese rock band. They have a lot of english lyrics and they too have been around for a while. Anyway! Ima shut up now lol! Much love y'all!
Apocalyptica is amazing!
They don't care about us and smooth criminal by Micheal Jackson is really awesome also
"2cellos - they don't care about us " is amazing 🙂
As a cellist it was always a blast to play something out of the ordinary from your standard classical pieces. I actually discovered these guys after discovering, playing and seeing Apocalyptica. They are a Finnish cello group with their drummer who goes by Animal (yes as in the Muppets). I saw them live on their Worlds Collide tour. So worth seeing them live.
I love these guys!!!!
Me too!!!
Coming from a classical background and playing for years I can say with absolute confidence, I would pay them to sit in that orchestra pit any day. 😀
They did a crazy and bang up "Hysteria" Muse cover... and their live "With or Without You" - U2 cover was pretty amazing. oh and their "Smooth Criminal" cover was great too.
If you like these guys you should check out Apocalyptica. They’re a Finnish cello quartet that performs Metallica covers.
The material used for the drum set screen is usually acrylic (well, at least, it used to be; I haven't been on a stage in a while).
Oh yeah? 🤘
Some drummers use screens to control the quality of the drum sounds and isolate the mics from crowd noise and the other instruments. I worked with one drummer who did that if the stage was big enough to allow it.
Ah thank you ❤️
Amanda King says they will be in the UK on June 2nd and 3rd. You definitely need to get there to see these guys!!! You will be walking on air for a week after that!!!
They are playing at the OVO Wembly Arena on the 2nd and 3rdJune, if you can make it! Love your reactions, Thunderstruck was my first of your reactions and now I'm a fan both of you and 2Cellos.
I'm not sure if I'll be able to which is such a shame!! But you never know ❤️
@@GOTGames This is their final tour :(
@@GOTGames It's OK, Babe. This is their 2nd Farewell Tour. They'll be back.
Personally, I love being able to perform these kinds of songs in the orchestra I'm in.
Croatia and Slovenia.

@@renatacubric6288 The guy on the right as they play is from Slovenia. You can look it up, though I know I'm correct ,Renata.
@@jeffharry9675 Sorry Jeff, then I still don't understand what other guy you mean except, I was thinking exclusively of 2 CELLOS Stjepan and Luka. Hi from Croatia
@@renatacubric6288 Luka is from Slovenia. He may live in Croatia, bit grew up in Slovenia.
I am a cellist myself and have played in different groups including orchestras and love it when we play more modern and fun pieces. I have also met both of them before and will be seeing them when they come to Australia later this year
Haven't heard of this tour can you please give me more info please... I live in Brisbane.
@@LJW55 most of the information should be on their website but they are performing on the 24th and 25th of November 2022.

Have seen them twice live! Amazing!!!!! I played the cello in school...but never took it further. If I had known the possibilities...who knows what I would have done! Love these 2 guys!
@STJEPAN HAUSER Oh please…I may have been born at night, but it wasn’t last night!
@Hauser ♪ Are you serious! You have 16 subscribers and you really imagine i am going to think you are for real!!!
That shield protects Orchestra from the noise of the drums
There's some love story between Croatia and Cellos.
2 Cellos, Ana Rucner, Monika Leskovar and many more fantastic croatian Cellos players are out there.
Must be something in the water 😅
The drummer and the 2cellos all look like brothers, lol fantastic performance!!
Drum solos are INCREDIBLE
Incredible.
💯
The “glass panels” are acoustic barriers to prevent sounds spilling over into the wrong microphones
London this year O2 arena, I'm from Croatia, but I'm coming to London to watch them , despite them having another concert in Croatia in September. I'm going twice this year.
Another one of my favorites!! These two guys have made classical music instruments cool! Saw them perform live twice - once at the Royal Albert Hall. You should definitely look for them.
Highly highly recommend "7 nation army"! Hearing that live drove me and my partner nuts (needless to say we grew up with rock too)
Smells like 2cellos 🤘😄🤘
Pretty sure most (if not all) of the Orchestra are having a blast with this. If they're not smiling, it's probably just because they're concentrating. 😄
Very true actually! It most be a lot of fun for them to do a song like this and just have fun with it 🤘❤️
the orchestra had a great time;
you need to see the whole concert in sydney
The shield on the drums is used for sound control. It's a technical aspect of the drums and sound. The shields dampen the noise of the drums and reduce how loud the stage sounds without the system. They also reduce the microphone bleed the drums typically give to other microphones being used on the stage.
Their cover of Thunderstruck and Smooth criminal are also amazing!
The glass shield is a sound barrier for the drum set. It's called a cage. It keeps the drums from being too loud for the instruments onstage. And it helps with isolating the drum track for recording purposes.
Their electric cellos are really cool. I love how electric instruments allow for a whole different range of sounds with foot pedals and mixing boards, etc.
2Cellos really do change the typically held beliefs of what it means to be celloists. A similar group for me is one from Scotland, The Red Hot Chilli Pipers (a Celtic rock band). I've grown up around bagpipes and I do love them, but I know their sound is definitely an acquired taste for some; but this band manage to make the bagpipes pretty epic and have done some fantastic song covers. I'd highly recommend their covers for Avicii's Wake Me Up, Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls, a compilation of Queen's We Will Rock You and Survivor's Eye of the Tiger, Journey's Don't Stop Believin', and a compilation of ACDC's Highway to Hell, Guns N' Roses' Sweet Child of Mine, Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water, ACDC's Thunderstruck and Fourth Floor.
Oh yeah? I'd be happy to check those out as well ❤️
Beethoven 5th/Whole Lotta Love is so cool. I love the way they transition into the new song from the classic.
Also, cello is very well suited for the"vocal line" as it is the instrument closest to the human voice in range and timbre, or so I've heard. It makes sense that it fits this role so well. These guys are siiiiiick at coaxing out all those awesome tones.
A friend of mine is a classicall trained violinist. He has worked with 3 different orchestras. He said it is great to do the great classical pieces. But he said when something whacky like this comes around we junp at it because its our chance to rock out a bit. he said he did an open air concert once and they were doing 2 hours of rock and pop classics with everything from ABBA, Tina Turner, Queen, Billy Joel etc. But he said one of his favourite pieces they did was Meatloafs Bat Out Of Hell.
As comedian Rob Parravonian said on his Pachelbel Rant: "it's hard to be cool when your instrument is bigger than you".
Epic reaction video. Your videos are fun to watch and enjoy . Thanks for the great content.
Ok, onto a violin like this?? David Garrett is from Germany. Classically trained but young enough to appreciate rock music- look up his catalog. Has mixture rock and classical, amazing talent...
The feeling of being part of a full orchestra is completely unmatched by anything else ever. I love playing the cello and their thunderstruck was the first orchestra video I saw. That formed my playing style like 6 months before I ever picked up a cello
I would recommend their cover of They don't care about us, wake me up, and seven nation army
There's another group called two piano guys will mind bend you how will they play and how skillful they are
The plexiglass is used for sound blockage the drums have mics on them so it is for sound quality
I played the violin in an orchestra for several years. In the middle of a song you are so wrapped up in the music, getting it right, counting, that you don't always look like you are enjoying it because you are concentrating so hard.
When you are finished and you know you played well, you know it sounded great. It is an amazing buzz and feels great. No matter what the song. Classical or contemporary, the hype is still real.
Epic reaction !
The first video I saw of them was their cover of The Trooper by Iron Maiden. My first words were “holy shit” then “wow”. I saw their video blind, just popped up on auto play, I was stunned. I play guitar but my favorite instrument has always been the cello, never played one just loved the sound. Never did I think one could sound like that, blown away. Every time I watch their videos, hours pass before I stop lol.
Wow I have seen some drum solos in my time this was epic.
That was so awesome!!
Next one Highway To Hell with Steve Vai ? (perhaps)
Definitely will be checking that one out ❤️
The drummer at the start sounds like BUDDY RICH! My favorite video by 2CELLOS is Guns 'N Roses' "Welcome To The Jungle".
"Nightwish" is a legit opera singing Diva in the old sense of the word. She sings in a heavy metal band. Imagine an operettic singer of the highest caliber singing in a Heavy Metal Band along side deep, rough throated, heavy metal vocalists. Please listen to her. You've stated that you love heavy metal, if you haven't heard of her before you must. THAT would be an amazing reaction.
i also love 2cellos. i am so glad you react to them .
The plexiglass protects the members of the orchestra from hearing damage from the drums. Sometimes drummers in rock groups also use them to protect their own hearing from loud amplifiers. If you don't mind seeing rock artists accompanied by orchestras, there is also guitarist Steve Vai's orchestral version of "For The Love Of God".
You are wrong twice.... sort of. It isolates the drums from other active microphones while also isolating the mics on the drums, lessening the need for noise gates and compressors, allowing for a more natural sound. It also helps with controlling feedback and bleed to other mics. I was a live audio engineer for over 20 years. Most Orchestra are way louder than any drums, even Tympani and kettle drums get drowned out by strings and horns.
@@kevinkarbonik2928 When I mentioned protecting the drummer's hearing, I was remembering how during the Cream reunion at MSG, after the first night Ginger Baker was complaining about the volume of the bass amp, and had the plexiglass put up around his drums, - but yeah, I see how it would help with mic bleed.
Thank you!
And okay! Happy to ❤️❤️
Trooper, trooper, trooper!
In case you haven't guessed you need to watch TROOPER!
Have you heard "Mombasa", performed live at Suntory Hall in Tokyo? It will blow your 2 Cellos-loving mind! Great reactions - you are so enthusiastic about music, it's fun to get pumped up with you!
In my country (Belarus) we have an orchestra which plays rock songs from time to time👍🏻
Deep Purple tried to do a recording with an orchestra in the 70s. The orchestra stood up and walked out in the middle.
But that was a different generation. Classical musicians back then viewed Rock and Roll as a threat. Something that was trying to replace Classical music.
But the younger generation today are happy to play alongside bands like Metallica or Led Zeppelin or 2Cellos. They no longer see Rock music as a threat. Merely an alternative.
This may help for the drum question - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_screen
Thank you! ❤️
They also do some spectacular videos such as They Don't Care About Us by Michael Jackson. There playing is amazing but when it's combined with the video, chill inducing. Same thing for The Show Must Go On.
The Trooper Overture Official Video should be next! Thanks for the reaction!
I think their version of "The Trooper" by Iron maiden is better.
I can't wait to check that out
The orchestra was enjoying it more than the actual ordience.
I've seen them live!!! They were INCREDIBLE!! I laughed, I cried, and I screamed until my voice was horse lol.
I really hope you check out The Trooper, the music video is awesome and it's one of my favorites by them.
Aussie hip hop group Hilltop Hoods re recorded a few albums with the Adelaide symphony orchestra. There are interview with some people from the orchestra out there about their experience.
Not sure if someone told you about the glass shields, so here it is- they're used by orchestras for 2 reasons.
1) Limit the amount of sound that hits the instrumentalists right in front of the drummer/pianist (main ones that are shielded)
2) Change the tonality/quality of the instrument sound that gets broadcast to the audience.
😮❤️
I've seen them twice in concert - loved every minute !!! BTW - they were just in London on June 4th.
Didn't see anyone else answer your question, or I missed it.
The 'glass' is a sound screen and dampens the sound so it doesn't feed back on itself in the mic. And doesn't overpower other instruments.
Playing at Wembley arena 2 and 3rd june
The guys use stuff like the drum solo during their live concerts to get a break (and likely change their bows).
This was the song that introduced me to 2cellos
Smooth Criminal is the Bomb! If you love heavy metal you should check out Apocalyptica - they are 4 Finnish cellists. They were formed in 1993 before 2cellos. The Inquisition Symphony Album contains covers of Pantera, Faith No More and Sepultura. They write their own original heavy metal works. They got famous for Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters." One of their best original metal works is "Harmageddon" Apocalyptica is amazing, one week they will be playing classical music concerts in a symphony hall the next week a sold out stadium performing heavy metal, they are that good. They will blow or mind!
when i played in an orchestra i loved playing anything that wasn't 'classical', but i was one of the youngest players, and listened to korn so maybe that was just me. 😅
😂 bet it was a lot of fun! ❤️
While not orchestra level I was in a national championship band and we loved all modern pieces we could get our hands on. The problem we had was most were not made to have sheet music for all instruments or we ended up playing somewhere where modern pieces were not traditionally played.
I played cello and trumpet.. I absolutely loved playing modern songs and movie soundtracks back when I was in orchestras..Seriously fun!
Your reaction to Thunderstruck was the exact same one I had when I first heard it being done by them, which was also the first time I had heard them.
Try "Highway to Hell"...bonus is nice drum solo...these guys are Croatian
As a classically trained musician and total metalhead, I can confirm that most of these musicians here are quite happy and even having fun playing this stuff, because quite frankly, it's different! They've played the majority of their normal repertoire so many time that something like this would just tickle their fancy. Also, the likelihood is that those who just look grumpy here, probably looked grumpy during their own wedding!
I’ve only ever heard thunderstruck from them years ago and you reminded me of them, fun to watch lol
I think it's time for their Trooper Overture next.
Croatia :) I think that's... whatsit.. not glass but hard plastic. Fudge I don't know my brain doesn't work. I think maybe it keeps the drums from drowning out everything and everyone? I'm not an expert. 2cellos is legend.
Ah thank you! Much love ❤️
Having played the flutes AND finally the clarinet.... I can tell you that playing this kind of music makes way more fun and is VERY refreshing to that standard classical music. I still like all that classical music AND contemporary music has its own importance.
Imagine I played electronic music on my clarinet as well.... 😂
Really enjoy the 2 Chello’s reactions! The drum solo was epic. Such talented people in the world! Just amazes me sometimes. See you in the next one! #Wafflegang ❤️
It's crazy how much they can do with just one instrument! Wow ❤️
@@GOTGames An instrument that's thought of as being mellow & relaxing. Lol, not theirs!
I played in a symphony and an orchestra since I was 12 years old, on several instruments, but my 2 main being the bass clarinet and the contrabass Bb clarinet. Sheet music is sheet music. The notes are just notes no matter when the song was written. A great musician can be handed any sheet music of any genre and play it perfectly, as written, or if a singer or choir is involved, change the octaves to what octave the singer or choir is singing. Keep in mind that while most kids made fun of us in band class, people like me were getting paid $500 a weekend in the 80s to play two nights a week for ballets, plays, concerts, radio and tv commercials, etc. Now I can play 23-28 weeks out of the entire year for movies, tv shows, or better yet, video games, have full medical, dental, vision coverage, my hotel and expenses paid, be handed a piece of sheet music for whatever the conductor needs me to play, play it, get paid more than my MRI Tech husband makes in a year, and go home for the rest of the year and chill with my grandkids.......who's laughing now lol. The teachers never tell kids this in school when learning how to play instruments is free of charge to them....a true disservice to the students and their future.
He (Dušan) is the best drumer in Croatia and ofc he has his own moment in concert cuz he is always going on tour with 2chellos. Btw proud croatian here ✌️🇭🇷 All of them are from Croatia
they played 2 nights atWembley arena a couple of weeks go. Blew my mind. They were amazing. Down in the crowd rocking with a wireless electric cello
I'm not sure about the perspective from within orchestral music, but from the outside most of the advertised symphonies are for non-classical music. Accompaniment with live vocals for soul, rock or other genres could be a way to increase attendance for symphonies with a large building & the upkeep that goes along with it.
I know I'm a little late but when I was in school I was apart of the school orchestra and we would do 4 concerts a year and the 3rd concert of the year was always a pop concert where we would break out movie scores, rock music, pop songs and other sorts of crazy music that you wouldn't normally think of when you thought of an orchestra.
you need to watch their pirates of the caribbean video, wake me up video, and castle on the hill video there great
Was looking for a calm sound of cellos or piano when I discovered these guys and second thing Im doing after a few seconds Im yelling and singing a rock song of ACDC.🤣🤣
2Cellos is actually more like a trio with their drummer Dusan. In earlier vdeos they did not give enough credit to their drummer. You will always see him in lve videos and in the newer videos, he is also featured.
I would suggest you check out their performance of Mombasa (by Hans Zimmer from the movie inception) live in Verona. While this may not be one of the legendary pop or rock songs they cover, but it is a very high speed high energy song.
...drumm cam...
As a cellist myself playing more modern songs is amazing especially if cellos have more to do then just background… halo, pirates of the Caribbean, yea amazing lol
The look on your face says: Why’d I have to come in the middle of the drum solo. 😂 Another good one. I suggest Smooth Criminal. And as a classically trained bassist. If there is a steady paycheck, I’ll play whatever you tell me.
Nothing is better than seeing them live. Saw them a couple weeks ago in Detroit.
Ah would so love to! Bet it's insane!
You need to check out the video of them and Steven Tyler doing Dream On and Walk this way, performed in THE Coliseum. It's AWESOME!!!!!!
