First off: great review. Much appreciated. In another note.. you would not believe how many reviews I've watched on this.. But I seem to find nobody talking about the 'music' functionality built in on this. I mean.. how does it work? do you have to play each file each time.. or does it play it sequence wise? Can it recognize album titles, artists and years? or will it treat it as plain files? Will it go into sleep mode while playing, let's say, an entire album? or does it keep the display ongoing? How does the battery fares while reproducing music files? Will it behave as frugally as with recordings? or will it be drained much faster? Do you see what I mean? In any case... thanks a lot, mate. Great job ;)
Thanks for the nice comment and I'm not sure on the music functionality. I don't think most people will use this for music with the streaming age we live in now. I don't even have a way to test this.
Hey great video, I want to ask about the distance range without an external mic, how do you think will it go with my recording in a lecture class with no external mic and how good would it be when I record it on my pocket or just put on the table with me sitting on the back or front with what distance?
The zoom hn1 recorder is good for UA-cam videos but I bought the Sony because I intend to record out doors and the zoom would be too sensitive and bulky for that. I think he should have gotten the zoom h1n for UA-cam videos.
For that, a sound comparison to the Zoom H1 and the Sony UX560 WITH an external microphone would be good... It seems in that case, the two would be more 'equal'?.... For 'cinema', use a Nagra or similar
I just bought it and a mic. Mayham is about to begin. I'm a spy now I want a camera. If you got Time do a video on it. Life is good. It's the little things.
I got the same i use it to records phone Conference and it works well. I’m only concerned that it’s internal battery so in the few years that batteries going to die out so the device will not be useful , Plus if you forget to recharge the batteries you can go and put it in fresh batteries, what does device itself is nice, actually I didn’t have a Sony recorder before it did had a AAA battery I never had to go buy a new fresh battery for it because it charges, I had Sony. ICDUX 533 it was awesome unit that we chargeable battery died out I went and got a new battery for it and now it works again fine,
I’d agree that gain level customization would be a nice feature, although I’ve never had a problem recording meetings, even when it’s in my pocket (mic pointed out).
Thank you for your detailed review. I bought this unit just last week and immediately noticed the flimsy usb. Has yours held up? Only one review out of 300 on Amazon mentions this problem so I am wondering if it is possible that I received a faulty unit.
Hi. Thank you. All I care about is how fast it is from the time I turn it on until the time I am recording. Bought a Chinese one. 15 seconds. Too long! How many seconds? Thanks!
Wav mode or LPCM is best because the the files are uncompressed , which won't degrade the recording . I would not use a dvr that didn't allow recording in wav
@jettlash1000 excellent review. Can you look at led. Im a little ocd is the led not perfectly red when lit and is the led have like 2 pin holes in the led. don't know if that's a manufacture defect or that's how all leds are. You have to have good eyes to see this !!! thanks
Surprisingly, the screen display is not visible outdoors or in strong light. This limits the areas where the recorder can be used. As for the recording quality, it's no better than my 8 year-old Olympus voice recorder. This digital recorder is not useful for medical dictation. I am a doctor who dictates my patient notes throughout the day as I walk around my office. I am often interrupted while dictating, this causing the need to rewind (on my tape recorder) a few seconds at a time to remember where I was in my dictation. This recorder does not allow you to rewind WHILE dictating. You must end the recording and then listen to the whole thing again and then start a new recording.
hey doc, I am looking for a unit that allows quick and easy folder changing and adding folders. as a home inspector, you comment was invaluable as I am obviously outdoors quite a bit. have you found a better option? sony used to make great options for me and I just ordered a used one that is similar to the one I am currently using. just thought I'd ask. thanks!
Its a nice review . Keep doing what you are doing.
Thanks, will do!
Great review! Thanks, dude.

Can you scrub forward and reverse through recorded clips?
Very easy to follow and informative. thank you!

Nice review, how is this for recording nature sounds? Outdoors?

Can it capture university lectures from far
has the Sony broken? I want to get it but many people say the USB breaks and they cant get their audio back
Shame there is no gain level for the built in mics. Very low recording volume for meetings

I would like to ask: some months into regular usage, is the daily battery life still satisfying or is it starting to show some decrease?
Lithium-ion battery is expected to degrade over regular use.
You can expect a maximum of 10% degradation per year. Anything from 3%-10% is normal.
@@awesomises thanks
Good review
THANK YOU!!
You’re welcome!
Nice review. Thanks
Thanks for the comment!

It’s probably about 5 seconds. It starts up quickly, and hitting the record button starts it immediately regardless of which menu you’re in.
It is real quick as far as i know
What format (mp3, or mp4, or other) is the recording when you transfer the recording to your computer?
I cannot remember off the top of my head, and I don't have any current recordings for reference. It should say on their website.

nice and detailed review. thanks.
This voice redord can reduce the noice?
Sir price

Agent Octopus Why don't you just hit the pause button and then resume?
the problem is the battery end life....
You had issues?
For how long can I record in one go? I'm planning on interviewing someone for a few hours
They go a long time, well over 10 hours.
Your recording is very hissy and noisy
