After the UX560 I reviewed a year or two ago, I was eager to try Sony's new offering, the UX570. The 560 didn't impress me much with it's audio quality, so I didn't expect much difference here... I was wrong. The sound quality on this recorder seems a lot better. I especially loved how it illuminated background noise when recording outside using 'focused' mode (see video). The design is also nicer IMHO and looks a bit more rough and ready but at the same time looking classy and smart.
Anyway, if you enjoyed this video please consider subscribing and liking so I know it was useful to someone. And hey, drop a comment if you like too :) Thanks

Couple-a pro-ish tips for using the UX570 as an external audio solution for youtube:
Use lowcut for windy scenes. Still need a deadcat in all outdoor cases. There are adjustable deadcats for Zoom handy recorders on the amazon that fulfill this need, that will fit over the recorder's internal mic. However, I use a Lav mic for this purpose - which usually will fit tiny deadcats of their own. Speaking of that - this recorder behaves oddly with external mics. I found all of my mics, Rode Wireless GO, and a mass market lavalier - run too hot for this recorder's default gain. I do voiceover work with this recorder, but the "voice" setting clips at even lowest gain. Weird. I use the Music setting instead - either on Auto or LOW (I use the lowest gain 99% of the time). The internal recorder preamp is reasonably free of hiss, unlike the majority of camera preamps. I am able to get a +9db gain in post before hiss becomes a distraction. Levels at Music/Low are a tiny bit lower than I'd like, but I can safely increase gain in post just fine without the hiss. Using Auto gain introduces an unnatural amount of compressor / limiter hiss. It's not great. And medium gain or higher ends up clipping way too easily. Music/Low ends up being the most natural sounding and most usable.
Good day. Can you tell me what are the best settings for voice overs? Should I put these settings? I don't use editing software.
Thanks for taking the time. Very nice and in-depth review. Very helpful.
Awesome, funny and super helpful and straightforward review. I've been going in circles trying to figure out which one to get... you helped me choose. Thanks!
great review mate!
Thank you for taking the time and sharing this.. I absolutely was convinced to buy one after seeing and hearing your tutorial ( I just bought one ) I want to use it with my dslr video recording and some music as well .. I dont really need sophisticated equipment to perform top notch projects .. this will do the job perfectly.. so.. thanks again man :)
Thanks for saving me the work! Great review, love this recorder.
Love the awkward banter haha makes me giggle! Thanks for the solid review, just what I was looking for. Cheers mate!
Jolly good reviews!
I’ve listened to like 15 and this made the most sense!
awesome review fam, I'm really interested in getting this device!
thank you for a comprehensive review....from nairobi,kenya
Purchased it. Your review was awesome!
Glad you liked it! Hope you enjoy the recorder :)
Thank you so much,
The best review on youtube about Sony recorder, you helped me❤️❤️
Your review was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. Your dubbing the sound while displaying the settings used should be a standard.
Awesome, thank you!
definitely going to buy this.. neat review, thanks a lot
Hey great video, I want to ask about the distance range without an external mic, how do you think will it go with my recording in a lecture class with no external mic and how good would it be when I record it on my pocket or just put on the table with me sitting on the back or front?
Greetings! I just bought this unit to replace an earlier older version for our investigations teams.
Great review!
(Loving your accent - reminds me o'home)
thanks kindly
Thank you Martha. That sounds interesting... What investigations do you do?
Such a good little device. I use it to record my DJ sets
Insanely helpful video! Thank you!
Great video review!
Great video man! I film fly fishing videos and I'm using this as a stand alone device to capture my audio and then I sync it with my video in post production. Ideally, I would like to capture all the stream noise and surrounding ambient sounds but I need to cut wind noise. I use a Rode lav mic with a dead cat wind cover on the mike. Given that, what setting do you think would be best for me to try? Thanks again!
Thanks for the review, very informative 👍 Do you know how quickly the VOR recording starts? Does it cut off much of the recording at the beginning?
Fantastic review very helpful 👍
Excellent review, thank you...
I appreciate your clear and straight forward presentation.
Great review, thank you!
No problem, thanks for commenting :)
great review!
I'm sold. Buying this right now.
Nice One Fellow Taffy! Expertly Explained.........
Nice review Mister. 😎👍
Thanks mate, great video! I currently have the UX560, what are the main differences between the two? Just wondering if it's worth an underage.. cheers. Subbed.
Great review, thanks!
No problem. Glad it was helpful :)
Cool Taffy!! Nice Overview! Wouls have liked a bit more on Direct Recording from 3.5 jack external music source. Mine seems to surge at the start then drops to the volume level i have set. Not sure why it does that? But nice overview. thanks.
Thank you so much! So helpful
You get a thumbs up straight away due to the INSTANT start on the product. No waffle.
Great video very detailed
This video help me so much.Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks for the useful review - I'm looking for something that shows the recording time very clearly as you're recording an interview so I can note down the exact time someone says something interesting.. Last Sony device I had was very hard to see at a glance. How's the display on this one?
Hi, the display is very clear to read from all angles. Much better than the pervious model (560) 👍
Just bought one using your link! Cheers!
Wow thanks my man! Really appreciate it. I hope you enjoy using it! 😀
Great review.. thanks
Thank you for the video.
On play back do you have speed control so you can still hear audio as you speed up or slow down?
Hi there, thanks for your review.
I sometimes do a long cycle rides and attempt video/audio recordings (I've just started again after many years of youtube absence!). My audio sucks on so many occasions due to wind noise, however I found a lav mic into my phone works somewhat.
With the Sony ICD UX570, does it do auto split recordings over a very long duration? Ideally I would like automatic time/date stamped recordings every 10 minutes, for the whole duration of a long cycle ride (sometimes up to 10 hours). Then I'd like to find the recordings I need via the time/date filename when I do video editing. If it does this, is there any audio lost during the saving and recording the next split? (My phone app currently losses some audio each time it saves). Thanks for your help!
good tests! helpful
Thank you! Glad it was helpful 🙂
Thanks it's really helpful
good evening i just wanna say that you video is exelent very easy to understand i just had a small question with this device can i also record from a cd player or record player i as well or just tape player and what kjind of tape playr can i use ,can i also record it of cassette deck or is it not recomnded
Hey, I am considering getting this recorder for my voice overs for the wedding, did you experienced any breeze, from the audio? I I use zoom h1n and it doesn't do a good job when the voice tone changes, laughing, etc and I can't use dead cat because I attach the recorder to the mic. I would be grateful for the advice
really helpful cheers mate
Going to be recording a person(s) in a loud background. Would you recommend this one?
I've always been a big fan of Sony.. I bought the Sony PCM D100, very clean audio but it's a little bit bulky, So i was wondering about a smaller/thinner device for on the go, and cheaper than £500!!!!! lol this is very good, I'm impressed, thanks for the review
Informative and hilarious. My kind of video. Thanks.
Thanks Gerald :)
Hi! This review was the very best I have seen! Quick question, how does it do picking, how well will it work for picking up sound from speakers from a school lecture and/or zoom call?
Thanks. I would imagine it would be great for that, but make sure to set it to a wide pickup range, that should work much better 👍🏼
Thank you kindly!!
I've been using mine to record audio while motorcycling. It works really well but I have found the best "scene" is voice notes but be careful it switches the REC mode to 128kbps. FYI I'm using the Sony Lav mic with it. Does anyone know if you can use the Rode micro with this recorder?
Good deep review
nice review
Best Review!
I love this recorder too👍 my only complaint is that the screen isn't gorilla glass so gets scratched easily.
How long does the battery last for continuous recording?
Thank you for the great review. I plan to mostly use to record all of my phone conversations after having yet another corporation lie to me in a phone call. If they record you in the U.S., one is well within legal rights to record them without having to disclose. When not convenient to record on speakerphone I'll use the Olympus TP-8 telephone pickup microphone in my ear. So the compactness of this over the Zoom H1N appeals to me. The best recorder is always going to be the one you have on you. I doubt I'd carry the Zoom as readily on an EDC basis. One other use...recording my hormone addled 11 year old daughter to play back to her how she sounds when talking to me.
I'm looking for a voice recorder to connect to Dragon or some similar software and write to me in text format. What dictaphone to buy?
In highest quality setting what is max record time on full battery?
well done
Nice recorder alike it! But more interesting is what you are using to record the video. What microphone are you using to create the vieos? Thank you!
Thanks. The mic I use for my videos is the Rode Wireless Go system. I've also done a video on that here: ua-cam.com/video/KF1x0vg2EWg/v-deo.html
It's a great unit, I use it as a scratch pad for recording keyboard ideas.
But as of 2024, I's really like to see Sony release a 24bit or even 32bit version, and no need for any gimmicks like reverb or drum patterns!!
Nice Tshirt dude
Is it suitable for classroom recording? I plan to put it on the table near the teacher, hope thia device could record question and discussion from students in the classroom. It is not big classroom, only max 25 students in the class. Would it work for this usecase?
Very nice video
I am trying to record a meeting and the sound is not loud like another sony i had prior to this that was less expensive
Will it charge and record simultaneously at the same time if i connect to external powerbank?
Can it secretly record conversations if you keep it in a bag or cover it up with something?
How did you sync up the Sony audio with the video audio to show the difference in audio quality for your review? I can never seem to figure this out. Thanks
I just do a clap at the start of recording. Then in my video editor (Vegas Pro) i can line up the tracks according to the massive visual peak that the clap made. If that makes any sense?lol
@@RedForShort Ahhh...like the clapper board they use in the movies for the same reason. Can't believe I didn't answer this question myself...lol. Thank you.
On my model, the Stop button is soft when I press it and not as "clicky" as the Record button. Is it the same on your device?
nice video thanks. what is the cold shoe option you used for keeping your recorder on a camera
Well you would have to get something like this amzn.to/2UflU8f and then maybe use Velcro to attach the Sony to it. Should work fine as the recorder is very light 👍
thank you
Hi I bought one but I have a problem because I cann't record it sends a message Full Memory even though I deleted all the files. Is there a reset?
Can it record up to 6 to 7 metres distance in outdoor.?
Very informative.
Glad it was helpful! :)
I was just hoping that you would push "play" to the speaker to see if it was loud enough... I have no idea trying to look at it seems not to be a speaker
Does anyone use these to record an audio diary and how do you find it? What about audio-to-text?
Do you know of any other recorder that is same small size but better?
can be use with 2 channel mic inputs?
Sold!
You mentioned you would compare to the ux-560. Which do you think is the better unit?? Thanks!
I'd say the 570 100%. The recordings sound a lot better quality to me :)
great 👍
Why don't any of these reviewers talk about playback, fast forward and rewind features? I need a device that I can playback and rewind certain portions of it without having to start at the beginning. Would like to know if this recorder has those features!!
Hi. I'd really appreciate it if you could help me understand if this could do the following...
I know this is dreadfully old school, but as well as capturing voice notes, i'd like this to store a small amount of ripped songs. I dont care about seeing song names (i'm used to screenless Ipod shuffles). I just want to have a folder for Jazz, a folder for Dance, etc and have maybe 30 or so songs in each. I'd input them with the line in jack and just feed tracks from my CD player and also individual tracks from UA-cam.
I'd be really grateful if you could tell me if this Sony could be used this way. Thanks
How much long distance sound does it catches
Is the UX570 an improvement over UX560?
Great video, just had a question can I insert an sd card which contains lectures and stuff on it and listen to the lectures on the sd card through this voice recorder?
pls reply thx.
Hi there. Yes you can do that. 👍😀
@@RedForShort ok thanks a lot for letting me know.👍
How weird that while I was checking this very unit out on Amazon and here's a video from the same day?!? Wow. That never happens to me,LOL!
lol yes this video was hot of the press today.lol Glad you found it when you needed it. Hope it helped 😀👍
How long you can record on one charge? I was able to record 12 hours on best options available on it :( This don't match 20 hours that was mention to hold..
Not sure mate, I haven't tried it sorry
Very nice and helpful. Started using mine :) Sorry, bought it before i saw your video. Otherwise i would have used your link...:S
Maybe next time
Most complete audio test on UX-570.
Did you test it for meeting etc using "focus & wide" ? How far it can record clearly ?
Thanks. I didn't get a chance to test it in a meeting environment, sorry 😔
Thx
Does it have Bluetooth? Auto voice record?
Thank you
This or Olympus WS 853?
Good video.

I get two asks are below:
1-Can you recommend for interview?
2- How long baterry for recorded?
Many thanks.
😂 good n fun review. Tq
When you did the recoding test what were your settings. Everytime I do it I get his even when the volume is average
It sounds like yours is faulty. I'd send it back and get a new one. I didn't have to do anything special to get the quality i got. Unless you have a look for quality or format settings and make sure it's set to a high bit rate. That's the only thing i can think of besides it being faulty.
Can I record if the audio recorder is inside a pocket or inside a purse?
Hello, thanks for share. Can we récord an audiobook with this advice?. Thanks and my best regards
I would probably say yes, but you'd have to have good conditions like a makeshift sound-booth to limit background noise and stop reverb etc.
