Nicely done explanation of this product. I was heartened to see that I could plug the device into my computer and download the audio to the computer. I hope that it means that I can then type the dictation into a Word document. Do you think that I can type what I hear on the documents page as the vocal comes across from the Sony device?
Keep in mind that anything this tiny is not going to record a very robust sound. I haven't done any tests (I own one) against a iPhone or iPad recording, but it should sound a bit better, and it will let you control the sensitivity for close-up vocals or ambient room recording. Would be interesting to actually set the sensitivity on high and record vocals by placing a pop filter in front of it, or even sticking of those puffy wind-sock filters. Otherwise, by adding a lapel (lavilier) mic or other external mic will give great results. I love my little Sony unit because it's on me at all times, because of it's convenient size.
How is the sound on playback with this device compared to the ICDUX570? I mean I wish the volume was louder on the Icd Ux 570 which is the one I have using just the built in speaker but it only gouse up to 30. Is theree a way to increase the volume while still using the built in speaker? Mine only goes up to 30

Hi Aaron, thanks for this video.... But I'm so so so curious, been looking long enough trying to find someone testing SONY ICD UX or SONY ICD PX type to record loud audio, I haven't found any... off course beside ZOOM, I have zoom H2, but SONY has a nice shape.... Do you have any video that using Sony ICD to record such an acoustic drum or a live band from blind distance ?? Or any loud audio source.... Or could you please make an experiment recording a very loud audio source using this SONY ICD ?? Let's say an acoustic drums... I'm so so so curious to know before buying one of this... Thanks a lot Aaron 🙏🙏

Hi Aaron - Glad I found your video, helps a lot. Clip/lavalier mics are recommended by other websites for recording interviews - I'll be conducting 1-1 interviews for my research over the next year, some of which may take place outdoors and/or in public settings. It is recommended I use two clip mics, one for the interviewer, one for the interviewee. I assume so but can't find for sure if the Sony ICDUX560 can accommodate two? Thanks so much.
No, sorry, the Sony unit can only handle one input. You'll have to record on 2 devices or get a mixer. 2 mics is always more complicated. Let me know your solution...I'd love to share it!

Use one mono-channel for each with a stereo-to-mono split dongle-cable. You will get two channels tat you can post-mix down to one again if you don't like the pure-stereo for each person
I have never burned the battery to zero over a day. If I have a long delay, I just turn off the recorder. If it's not recording, it'll go to sleep anyway.

Aaron. I have watched many of these overview videos, but they all suffer from the same problem. I want to know, if the external MIC input, is also a stereo LINE IN as well. Some of us, like to download, from our other devices ?
Hello, can you hear the what is being recorded through the headphone simultaneously. Also, would it be possible to connect two microphones into the single input using a splitter?
Thanks Al, that was a great demo! However I was just wondering, as I know from your background you'd record mostly yourself in videos, do you know if it would record another person or persons voices across say a lecture hall about 10 metres away from you clearly (hopefully with minimal background noise!) without the use of the extra microphone? Reason I ask is I need to record meetings in large size rooms with around 50-100 people talking in various parts of the room!
You can easily align the audio with your video in your editor of choice (FCPX, Premier, DaVinci) by using a loud clap. Just clap loudly after you start your camera and audio recorder, then line up the spike. It's simple and works every time.
I was trying to recharge mine, hooked it up to the pc when I came back to it after a few hours unhook it, it shows that sleeping sign says (please wait), and has stayed that way for 20 hours and does not turn on or anything else and is dead. do you know anything about that.Thank you
I would buy this recorder, but I have a question for you: I know that it has a sleep timer mode, which can automatically stop recording in 2 hours. I would like to know whether the sleep timer can be used together with the VOR function. And, In this case, would the recorder stop recording after 2 hours of absolute time, or after 2 hours of recording time? Thank you!
Could you advise on the process of once you have recorded an interview for e.g. how I can upload the interview onto microsoft word without physically typing it out? Thankyou
Go to UA-cam and upload and click the three dots ... and open transcript. It gives you almost time by time or frame by frame. So if you are taping a college class you can go back to your notes and use it as a review for the notes that you took.
Sir .. I have this Sony headphone. I want to record tablet courses ... What is the best way..? Kindly reply please.. I have video contents in a tablet. I can only connect headphone to the tablet.. I want to record the voice of those course videos clearly .
Set the Sony recorder to Line Input instead of Microphone Input. Then, Get an auxilary cable (3.5mm to 3.5mm) and connect the audio out from the tablet into the Sony recorder. You're set once you do that!
Your review is incomplete. You did not show us what it sounds like without the external microphone. Does anyone out there know how to do a competent product review?
I am about to buy the next model (PX470) Can someone answer this question, can I record music onto the SD card and play it through the car stereo? Two devices in one..........
Why the USB POP OUT ?? Would be better the old USB Hembra conector with the cable. And why the built in battery no reemplazable ?? I own a Sony UX-533 with that damm USB pop out but it uses a 1 AAA (whit a long histamine) and could charge too directly of Recorder-PC conection... and i want to sell it and get the very old Sony PX-333 without that USB pop out and get a nice cable to carrie out. ok dad. not a very technical review. nothing on sound quality or most features. you dont even mention the recording formats. for broadcast-quality, no one uses mp3. would have been nice to get a rundown of .WAV settings and, i don't know, one or two sound files. also a comparison vs. the zoom H1, tascam dr-05x and 07x, comparably-specced Olympus models, etc. how sensitive is the mic? what's the noise floor? anyone? Bueller?
If you have the ability to hook up a lavalier, then it might equal a dedicated recorder. I've used my phone many times but I found the Sony to be more versatile.
Thank you for a comprehensive and honest review. I'm seriously considering getting the ICD-UX570.
Best of luck!

Would you recommend it over the Sony ICD-TX650?
I prefer the 650 because it has more buttons meaning less menu scrolling. It’s worth the small extra cost.
Can you rewind as you listen to your recording

Is it better than the zoom h1n to capture ambient sounds?
They're arguably similar. The ultimate is having an external mic for ambient capture with a Triton Fethead Preamp to increase gain without noise.
