    To everyone bummed out that their style looks like the "Don't" side:
    At least you recognize that you're doing things incorrectly instead of just brushing it off with "It's just my style!"
    Knowing that you can improve is the gateway to actually improving.

    I tend to draw "generic" clothes that's horrible xD I mean, I just put a blanc t-shirt and random pants, and random shoes on the character, forgetting what they would usually wear. I do that because I tend to put all my effort in drawing the head of my character and the rest is just" meeeeh not important face is pretty" xD

    • @sukidakara4326
      @sukidakara4326 7 років тому +648

      espe booii they do help artists, but only when the artist isn't copying off the image. when they draw the base all alone without just putting a piece of paper over it and tracing it, it will help.

    • @claraparker4807
      @claraparker4807 7 років тому +249

      espe booii But that can happen even if you're drawing a person without a base.
      See, it's easier to draw a person without any clothes on first before drawing the clothes.

    • @sunnywo2259
      @sunnywo2259 7 років тому +193

      espe booii I think it's perfectly fine to use bases if you create them YOURSELF (by this I mean actually drawing it yourself). But I don't think it's fine to use the bases you find on google or the bases you 'make' by removing someone else's character's clothes, hair etc.

    1- making skinny characters with bug puffy jackets and hoodies
    2- Not doing shoes unless they're wearing shorts, a skirt or a dress. Long trousers just have the colour going all the way down the feet. (+ the feet are just triangles)
    3- only ever drawing wrinkles under the armpits.

    Eyy I finally get on one video early! I love the "do this, not that" series cause it shows both good and bad examples side by side in the same style. That makes things a lot more helpful than, say, looking through DA for examples. Even if you don't see this, Keep up the good work!

    omg this is so helpful! I usually draw fabric lines in random places because I have no idea how creases etc actually work. Or I make the fabric 'tight-fitting'. I'm the don't side so I'll definitely start using these tips. Thanks!

    the base drawing was just a basic cartoon. When she added the "better" clothes, it ruined the nice cartoony aesthetic of it all. The best clothes for that base would've been ones with less wrinkles. If she had done this on a more detailed base, then yes, it would've looked good! Just remember, add an amount of wrinkles that fits well with the characters aesthetic. For example, don't draw a ton of wrinkles on a simple base. And don't draw no wrinkles on a detailed base. try to find the perfect harmony between details!

      This is really late, but try not to add too many wrinkles and make the bumps in the clothing very large. Make sure to add the poofiest bits (the parts with the most mass) near the wrist/hip area for sweaters and ankle area for pants.
