Try to take a big sheet of paper and draw again and again the character, and locate where you have difficulties to recreate! If it's the eyes, make references or change the shape to be simplier or more recognizable. Having sketches of your character around your sketch helps, so you will spy on the other sketches and recreate what makes the character. If you know you're going to draw again and again this character, it's better to do something like this to register a unique way to draw them instead of going in every direction.
Here’s a tip: If you’re still struggling with same face syndrome Start with changing the eye shape, then the nose shape, then lastly the mouth shape. Those first steps will help so much. And if after those three changes, if it still look to similar; change the less noticeable facial features. It will really help.
I make a character face based on his/her past, Examples: The OC had a fight, make it look like a gangster maybe with some piercing (but not like JoJo 5 😂) The OC has a quite life, make it look like a gentleman idk with hair like Yoshikage Kira (Idk how to say it lol)
The day I watched this, I finally started drawing Alphys (Look it up, she's s cute lil midget from Undertale) kinda chubby like she is in the actual game instead of like frickin Marceline
@I'm a UwU monster I think the only advice I have is to stop drawing so many FNaF characters. Literally all the animatronics have similar features, with only a few exceptions like Balloon Boy, or the Toys, or the Puppet. Study pictures and try to replicate them. Only things I can think of - I kinda have it myself, only it's reserved for the boys. I guess it says something about how I see men.
I definitely do agree that “same-body syndrome” can be a way bigger problem than same-face syndrome. To me same-face syndrome doesn’t just include the face but also the face and body shape and overall feel and body language of the character.
Agreed i dont suffer from same face i have a very realism based style and with everyone i draw i put a story to them and my characters never look the same but the body are loteral copy pastes
@Diamond Lullaby Still does not excuse Disney from completely throwing her off on the back burner. Both were princesses but at least Elsa gets some bloody attention and is shown with the actual princesses sometimes. Kida gets nothing. :( I just enjoy the fact that I see more people know she even existed at this point. Highly doubt she will get acknowledged or shown to the point that kids will know who she is. Same with Treasure Planet.
@@meistorm6684 fuck disney's princess crap . they should have a more better title for ALL women of disney in films becuz they should be represented n not forgotten . + loads of ppl argue how sum aren't even of royalty like for Mulan or Pocahontas ... :| we don't see poor Melody, Ariel's daughter who literally has a film based on here ¬.¬ smh. And yes! Kida, i never knew the woman until i legit came across Atlantis film. Many of the females are just there & forgotten . + Disney does have a problem of making MOST of their merch white princesses -.- Never PoC shown . Not until ralph breaks the internet came out did i see any of the other girls who ain't white ...
It would be nice if you also mention facial spacing. You changed the face shape but you can also change the distance between eye to eye, nose to mouth, mouth to chin. Having your features closer together, for example may make the character look cuter than if they're further.
Angel999Girl The girls in LL! are more realistic All the girls are Japanese and aren't from other countries,so it's normal they have similar faces. The only exception could be Mari.
you: same face syndrome me: same character different face syndrome yeah this happens a lot since I keep changing the way i draw a certain character hehe..
I used to do that but now i try to do the same eye shape whenever i draw my main oc and a different one for my other oc i also try to do different body types and face shapes
@@komahinacanon526 Okay, but I was specifically refering to the 'other eye' which most artists struggle with and how I have a very unsteady hand. I respect your input regardless. Or something I'm not one of those people who put a block of text in the comments.
I like film/game theory his theories are interesting even if they are not true i still enjoy them (but that's just my theory! A G- uh i meant to say opinion i guess that's what happens when you become a fan heh.. heh....)
My problem is drawing different faces when I intend to draw the same face (like filling up a page with the same character and making their face too different)
drawing characters inconsistently just try to draw them many times to a look you remember them by, or you could count how many noticeable eyelashes they have or remembering the distance of their eyes. theres many ways on how to draw a character consistantly
I actually have different face syndrome. I can't draw the one character with the same face because I still haven't decided my art style and it irks me a lot
[ I N S E R T N A M E H E R E ] Same! I one time tried to draw identical twins, they looked nothing alike lol But I’ve practiced and I think I’ve gotten better, somewhat lol
I suggest to keep drawing them for a little and experiment a bit. You’ll eventually find a design that sticks and you can consistently draw (it works for me at least)
I used to have it and I conquered it . Step 1. Address the problem Step 2. Experiment with different body types Step 3. barrow techniques from other cartoons and put your own spin on them. In the Simpsons every character has giant eyes and an overbite so draw a character with giant eyes and an overbite, In the Flintstones I noticed all the men have big noses so try drawing a big nose. Watch a ton of cartoons you would never watch and borrow things from them.
People are going to say "oh but so and so just made this video" and im here to clarify. 1: it takes days and even weeks to create a video, not something you just do overnight. She wouldnt have saw a recent video and immediately go "mmmmmmm yeah me too" 2: most youtubers (not all) have a schedule, or a basic plan as to what their next few videos will be about. 3: these things happen. People can make videos like other people or get inspired to do that thing. This has been a discussion
As well as, this is a tutorial, she might teach this in a way other youtubers havent. As well as each person as a learning style and maybe she teaches this better than another youtuber.
And i mean, its not like doing a vid about the same topic as others do, is something illegal right? xD i hate ppl that complain about that some one did a video about it first. I mean, if i like and know about this topic, why can’t i do a video about it too? Even if my opinion is the same.
Do you have any advice on giving characters unique clothing? It’s something I struggle with when designing characters and they all end up having bland stuff, which sometimes doesn’t even make sense to the story or the character them self.
Just add a little "something" to their clothes. What I usually do to add pizazz to my clothing is things like tears or stitches/patches, ect. Sometimes it can be as simple as a cute design or something. Depending on who (or what) you want your character to be, give them clothing that reflects their personality. Give them a hoodie if they should be reclusive and introverted, or a tank top or something extravagant if they're outgoing. Idk, this is just some random advice from a girl on the interwebs. Hope this helped, though.
Yea, look at HEAPS of different clothing on characters. Draw your own characters, and then draw different clothing on them each time. Do an intensive week long practice on clothing.
Same... Except for my sister characters where I just change the eye shape and maybe eyebrows (I use those two traits to give my characters personality)
1:53 I ought to stop there and brought your attention to this girl. Look at her. She's perfect. She breath happiness and proudness. I love this drawing in particular. Even if this is true with all the others, this one... this one I adore.
There were 2 DC comics characters that wore just towels around their bodies and around their hair. A lot of fans noted that, throughout the comic, they couldn't identify which character were which, because they looked exactly the same. Same body shape, exact same face. In contrast, TF2 and Overwatch did a really good job giving their characters different silhouettes. Nobody will look at Mei and Zarya and get them mixed up, no matter what they're wearing.
A really good way i found to see if your characters look too similar is to take out your Switch and make Miis of them. If you're having to reuse the same parts too many times you'll know. Not just that by the way, the Mii maker is a really good tool to make characters in general! I was playing Miitopia switch, decided to make a bunch of OCs on the spot to be the ten main heroes, and those guys turned out to be the most diverse looking group of designs I've ever made! I totally recommend trying it out.
For me, I've always associated "same face syndrome" as an introduction to "same character syndrome", because you might not notice characters having the same face if they have wildly different bodies, but have the same body and it doesn't matter what the face looks like- they look too similar. It all ties back to making your characters distinct from each other, which is a basic character development thing that I feel like your videos really help with, so thank you LavenderTowne!
Thank you for mentioning same body syndrome. That's been bothering me for some time now. I think muscle memory began to take over a little too much after I switched to anime style, and I've been trying to push myself back out of it over the last couple of years. I used to worry a lot about same face syndrome, and I think I do kinda fall into that trap here and there, but most of the time I choose different facial features for different characters, even if they're already existing characters. For instance, in some fan art I've drawn of Hotaru from Sailor Moon and Sasami from Tenchi Universe, I gave them different jaw lines, different muscular build (slightly)., and different eyebrows (as well as different eyes and hair, of course). I think I even drew their ears differently, too. I feel like I still have a lot of room to grow as far as same-face goes. I've noticed that male characters, especially in shounen, often have wildly different facial features (the fewer appearances the character makes, the wilder), but in shoujo (at least for slightly older titles) the female characters are way too similar (think of Sailor Moon), and just about the only exceptions are the rarely-appearing characters (like villains). I kind of try to aim somewhere in between the two myself, for whatever that's worth.
Anime is the biggest offender of same face and same body syndrome, a lot of anime characters, girls in particular, have the same body shape just with a change in height and chest size, and so many anime girls have the same base for their face. I think the one thing you didn’t really touch on (you drew but don’t say much about it) is face shape, because I know from my experience I used to use the same exact face shape for every character and it did take me a while to break that habit
Most animes are, but some are really distinct in facial features. Michiko and Hatchin is really good, especially since it also covers diversity in ethnic ways as well. Just avoid shows that pander to weebs and you can generally find good examples of a less-appriciated art style actually having decent faces.
Uhh.... Well, Boku no Hero Academia has some pretty different faces. Maybe you can start by changing the eye shape and the iris shape? I started studying the BNHA art style and I've learned alot from it.
My characters have similar face features becouse its a important story plot point, but when i draw my other characters i do go straith for the same face shape, its hard to draw different faces but, it is avoidable Edit : Where the hell did these likes come from?
Soul Eater is the opposite, it's amazing. It's as if every character were drawn in a completely different style. The face shapes, the eyes, the hair. Everything.
I think the reason why the female characters in some older Disney films look so different is because those films were stylized. A big issue I have with Disney is their lack of stylization. They used to be more daring with art direction and how their worlds looked, but now they seem to make all of their worlds (at least for princess movies) look the same. I agree that that is due to brand recognition. However, Disney is playing it safe: I respect studios more for taking big risks rather than creating vanilla or cookie-cutter aesthetics to guarantee more profit. Cartoon Network has fallen prey to this too; many of their current shows look very similar and resist interesting art choices. I grew up with Ed, Edd and Eddy, Teen Titans, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. They all have distinct art styles. This isn't just an issue of today's animation industry; even earlier on we had Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo and PowerPuff Girls. To me, their art looked pretty similar. I don't know about back then, but I know that today, many of the people behind the shows on Cartoon Network worked on the same projects together, so perhaps they ended up being influenced by each others' work. I hope that animation networks (and other places with character art) recognize the value in choosing an interesting artistic look.
alexandra galici I agree, all CGI Disney/Pixar films sort of blur together visually. Could anyone tell a human extra from Finding Dory apart from the extras in Big Hero 6? There used to be so much more variety in art styles when Disney still did 2D movies. With that said, I think that there is still some variety in the faces... ....of the male characters. My big gripe with it is how Disney has a pretty big double standard for male and female characters, Hans, Kristoff, Flynn and Maui look nothing alike, yet Anna, Elsa, Rapunzel and Moana all have the same face with only slight modifications. As for the Disney Princess branding, there are a dozen things way more iconic than the face shape used to mark them as Disney Princesses, such as pastel ballgowns, animal friends and cutesy song numbers etcetera.
have you ever seen the concept art for elsa? especially when it was more early, less set in stone? it’s so expressive and beautiful imo, reminds me of something like the Emperor’s New Groove or Aladdin with how much personality they had. … and then of course the final product for elsa is a plastic doll fit for the merchapocalypse after the release.
alexandra galici Exactly! I thought Frozen looked ugly, not only do Anna/Elsa look like generic dolls, but there were several obvious animation mistakes as well as rather simple and unfinished looking aesthetics, such as their dresses looked like they were made from spandex with no wrinkles, and most of the snow looked more like melting rubber than real snow, and they turned trolls, fearsome creatures not to be trusted in Scandinavian folklore, and turned them into cutesy troll-dolls. Plus they reduced the Sami, an indigenous culture with a rich and complex history, and reduced them to uncultured slobs for the sake of laughs with Kristoffs character.
Ok ok, I pressed "show more" and got assaulted WHY IS THERE AN ARTICLE HERE THIS IS UA-cam NOT FRICKIN WATTPAD HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO READ ALL THIS?!?! Edit: I read it. I read it and now im sad. But hey, you can always rewatch coraline! That thing scarred me as a child
Your artstyle is a very refreshing change from the majority of the art community on UA-cam! I know artists all have a genuinely unique style, but there are indefinitely trends that people follow in terms of cartoon work, and to see someone who exaggerates certain things and sort of branches away from too much added realism and has a very personal touch to certain details on their characters is nice to see, I hope a lot of young artists use you as an inspiration.
Her style set the base for mine! She's my biggest inspiration and role model. I've been following her channel for years and I've learnt so much! I'm so thankful for her!
I mainly draw cats, and it can be REALLY hard for me not to draw the same faces, because the differences in face shapes in cats are much more subtle. I think the main thing I do, is just try to draw different shapes for the heads when I’m sketching. Some shapes for cats are circle, triangle, or square. This helps a lot, especially when you have a base, and you can chose different features that compliment it. (I know I sound like I know what I’m talking about, but I’m just sharing something I’ve just discovered, so I recommend to take this with a grain of salt! 😂)
A youtuber I could think of is Learn2DrawManga. To me, a lot of her characters have the same expressions. Don't get me wrong, she's an amazing artists, but I just think she needs to put in a little more variety into the faces
I need help I never draw the same faces again Which is a bad thing because most of the time I made a good face for a character but I can’t draw it ever again Anyone have tips for drawing the same face for a specific character?
Sakari's Edits I don’t know but I guess maybe trying to draw each characteristic separately until you remember? Just so that you get the hang of it and then draw them together. Honestly I am no expert, but I feel that might help.
Sakareeh First, make a character design sheet. Heavily reference it so you understand the way the shapes curve, how sharp the facial features are and other shapes and figures. Soon you will be able to draw it without reference, and if you’re still not able to, keep trying! Switch things up a little, move out of your comfort zone! Good luck.
Sakareeh look at the face design get a spare peice of paper and draw its head and lightly experiment, trying to match with its personality (depending on what it is it can vary) and design it so you have other emotions, it works with most of my ones (except Echo and Aqua because their my main ones) Edit: I am no artist, just my tips that help
Guys he did not copy and paste! When I was early the other comment was like that! This one said 12 minutes and other one with more likes said 11 minutes ago. HE DID NOT COPY AND PASTE! BELIEVE ME!
But... Rapunzel has a thinner face, and smaller eyes... But then again, I'm someone who get confused when a classmate tell me I look like my mom/brother, or if someone points to a father and their child and say the child has his father's nose 😂

Kyuuru Well,if it's a character, then your preference shouldn't make you not draw it,even if you don't like how they look, remember,no one looks perfect.
I try my best to make variety and even some character themes I normally don't like. Though I always end up making them " my preference" if I don't try my hardest to make something unique if this makes sense xD.
"Don't be afraid to do weird stuff to the eyebrows because that's another point where humans have a lot of variation. There's some people who legitimately have no eyebrows AND THEN OTHERS WHO HAVE SO MUCH EYEBROW THEY CAN BARELY HANDLE IT." APH England, anyone?
My problem is that all of my faces are different... My style is really complicated so when I draw the same character twice, it's extremely difficult to draw the same face twice.
I didn't think I'd take anything away from this video because I've practiced a lot to make my faces look different from each other but after watching it I still feel I learned something and the exercise you suggest at the end seems really fun! Great video!!
"And you see, two of these characters are related..." me: Yup. uhuh. Elsa and Rupunzel. Mhm. "But Rapunxel isnt related to them.." Me: ... me: WELL ITS JUST A THEROY, OK?!
Side note: I think while Adventure Time has very simple faces, it's great at expressions, if you're interested you should really see if you can try to find some, it extra impressive when you consider the simplicity of the faces
I've been drawing since i was a child, but i never actually watched videos to learn and stuff, but now your videos are helping me a lot, and my characters had the same face sindrome, thanks for teaching things about drawings, its really helping me out, and im sure is helping a lot of people too!
THIS WAS SO HELPFUL!!! I was sufferingfrom this but i didn't know, until i realized today. Luckily a vid was already set for me! And oh boy when i looked at the thumbnail was ur art!!! Thx so much Lavender!!!
Kpop and Korean Nobelas: “We don’t do that around here” -Also, as an animator on flipaclip, I beg to God that people tell me I have same face syndrome and then point out species or head shapes, I mean it’s good for a web comic that you have different heads but on an animation.... no
Honestly im confused about how people use flipaclip, Theres no blending modes, No clipping, You cant even change the opacity of layers, Also, No smudge tool or blur option, Also i think some more brushes would be nice but thats more of a personal preference, Idk how people do anything with flipaclip, I know its more accessible then alot of other animation programs, But procreate is fairly accessible (only on apple products and costs money, So thats why i didnt just say accessible) and it has a animation feature, Yes you are limited to only 200+ frames since thats the limit for layers and layers and frames are counted as the same thing, So you cant make a super long animation, But you can turn that into clips and put those clips together in an editing program like kinemaster, And for audio you can just add that in a editing program and mess around until it fits decently, I do understand that procreate isnt accessible for alot of people since iphones and ipads are more expensive then other tablets and phones, And even if somebody did buy a iphone/ipad for procreate, It still costs money (on iphone 5 dollars and on ipad 10), So i understand that some people might not want to pay that much, But if you are able to afford it, Then i would recommend it, Its definitely a step up from flipaclip, Its alot more complicated, I had some problems when trying to use procreate for the first time, And i didnt know how anything worked, Instead of using the add blend mode i used the light pen and light brush, Instead of using the multiply blend mode i just darkened the color of the area i was trying to shade, Instead of using the smudge tool i used blur, Most of my art ended up looking terrible because of me not understanding how procreate works, Instead of actually taking time to learn how it worked, I just saw somebody using it to make cool art, And i downloaded it without knowing anything about it, I just assumed that the app was what made the art good, And not the fact that the person had years of experience, And put hours of work into that drawing, I just thought 'Oh hey! Some people are making cool art with this app, Maybe that'll inprove my art skills' Instead of actually thinking about the fact that if you're skilled enough, You can make good art in any program, Somebody literally made a hyperrealistic santa in ms paint, I think the reason that i thought that its the program that made it good, Is because i was just relying on trial and error and youtube videos, I still am learning through that, But i think it was because of the people i was watching, Most of them werent really giving what was helpful art tips for what i was drawing at the time, Instead their content was mostly made for people with a decent understanding of what makes good art, Back then i was just drawing hot girls instead of actually learning what made good art, Also i didnt really set achievable goals for myself, Instead i just wanted to draw in that one semi realistic style, Whoever is reading this knows what im talking about, The style that one guy on tik tok has, And so many other artists have, The guy who just opens every video with 'WhAt I wIsH i KnEw BeFoRe GoInG pRo', He literally comes up everytime you search up anything related to procreate, No hate towards him, Hes probably a really cool guy, Im just saying that i wanted to have a art style similiar to his because 'ThE pEoPlE wHo DrAw In ThAt StYlE hAvE cOoL aRt So ThAt MeAnS iF i DrAw In ThAt StYlE iLl HaVe GoOd ArT' without taking into consideration that you can mix and match features from different styles instead of just sticking to one, Also, Instead of clicking on those videos that say they'll teach you the basics of art, I clicked on the ones with the cool looking thumbnail instead of any other video that could actually help, I found those videos that teach you the foundation of good art boring, When some of them are pretty interesting, For me its easier to just occasionally try out new things and see if they work through trial and error, But sometimes i dont wanna go through all the work of sketching out the drawing repeatedly until it looks close enough to what i want, And then do the lineart, And then start trying out new things to see what works and what doesnt, Just to find out that it doesnt even look decent at the end, No matter how hard i try to make it look good, Uhhh i probably made this way too long so heres a summary of what i just said, Use procreate instead of flipaclip if you can, And just put the clips and the audio together, Also trial and error is better then youtube videos until you get good enough at art that you can actually learn from those videos, Which the second half, The trial and error is better then youtube videos bit is unrelated and idk why i started talking about that
I don't have this problem AT ALL, however, I do sometimes have problems w/ poses... Like sometimes I'll draw the same pose such as a piece sign. Also, I think this video is very useful for beginners that have this problem, and can very well help people fix it. You get an A+++-+ UwU lmao
I tried the thing where you draw your characters without clothing/hair to see if they’re too similar, and I was surprised at how different they actually looked. I was convinced I had really bad Same Face Syndrome, but maybe it’s not as bad as I had convinced myself it was. Thanks, Haley!
My favorite show is Steven Universe. So my art style has, luckily, been influenced by an art style almost based entirely around the unique shapes in the character’s faces and bodies and pretty much everything else.
Hey Lavender Towne, I have A LOT of trouble with “Same Pose Syndrome” when I draw bi pedal characters... facing the ‘camera’ full frontal view arms down by the character’s sides wings fanned out visible over their shoulders (all of my characters have wings and the patterns / colors / shape (IE angel vs bird vs dragon vs bat vs dragonfly vs butterfly fairy vs a combination of any number of these) are how (along with their faces) I tell who’s who in my drawings or on rare occasions a straight profile if they’re easier to do in profile (IE they’re sleeping or a quadrupedal character) Any advice? Thanks so much in advance!!!
Hello Emerald I'm not lavender town nor do I believe I am at that level...at least with humans. That being said the same could be discussed when drawing my wolves,so what do I do to avoid same Boring poses? I practice, grab refs similar to what I am looking for but try to imagine them in a different light this can bring you all kinds of possibilities. If you need to do foundation practice just grab an image and try to sketch the basic shape. When you sketch something enough it becomes easier to draw that's why I believe most artists can get into a pose rut. Try drawing from above or below to get a new angle,or do an action like running, jumping,or even flying. If you have a lazy character you can have them slumped over with a blanket while standing with bags under their eyes. Excited characters just imagine giving someone coffee so maybe wide eyed in an over enthusiastic pose:) art is beautiful because of all the possibilities for my fursona I have Vixen who is an enthusiastic/shy sort of character she is a gray fox crossed with a spotted tail quoll so she has shorter legs but large rounded ears. She is a fun character that I can draw laying down, being a loud mouth around friends, but also caring granted I imaged her as myself sooo I go off of my characteristics in that regard ^^. Hope this helps some just my experience from drawing over the years. Try some gesture drawing that will really help you just take notice of the shape/strictures ^^
Not sure if you're still looking for advice, and you might already know this, but I figure it couldn't hurt to tell you that LavenderTowne uploaded a video recently about making more interesting poses
She seems really cool to hang out with! I wanna go get milkshakes with her and browse art stuff. Haley is the kind of girl who'd be your best friend for life and is basically the embodiment of a marshmallow.
i guess it depends on what the cast looks like if its kinda like "Happy tree friends" then i guess its not that bad, but if its a game like "Mario bros" then a character might need to look different and recognisable
I tried the same-face syndrome test and I actually don't have same-face syndrome! I use to have same-face syndrome a lot at younger ages, but now that I've learned a lot more, I've been able to change faces up. Of course they have some similar factors and you can tell they were made by the same person, but you can definitely see big differences! The exercise also helped! I tried to vary expressions and shapes. I would have rectangular face characters with round eyes and round face characters with sharp eyes! Anyways, sorry for talking a lot! This was still pretty helpful though 😌
This comment shows that MEME THEORY rules are true. 1. If there is a reference the adience thinks is funny, people *spam* it in the comments like there is no tomorrow.. thinking it's still fresh.
Hi Lavendertowne, I’m an 11 year old wishing to be an artist when I get older! And I was actually wondering, when I draw my faces, I just draw different types of noses and eyelashes on the eyes. Is that ok? Or should I try more out of my comfort zone, and try something new? P.s. I love your work! You’re my inspiration :3
Izzy Bizzy2468 I'm another 11 year old artist, you might want to try changing the proportions a bit. (Some have bigger mouths, some might have smaller ears.)
Try different shapes to base your faces off! Start with a triangle or a circle (any shape really) and place the facial features on. Just experiment a lot with the spacing of the facial features on the face too. I hope this helps.
This is so helpful, and also this is just like real life. We all change are clothes, Hair, etc. but we all still can know who is who because our faces. Anyways, love your videos so much they always improve my drawing.
I don't make my faces all that different, but I usually give my characters defining traits. Such as with my characters, Alexis (Which is basically my self-sona, and looks pretty much like me, and has the same name as me, lol) and Mimi, Mimi's defining traits are blue and orange multi-colored eyes, a "Kitty" mouth, and fangs. Other than that the faces are pretty much the same, and even their hair is basically the same, so you can't tell them apart by hair. Except the whole cat ear thing, you can definitely tell them apart there. Oh and Alexis wears eye makeup while Mimi doesn't. That's another thing. So yeah, the main 2 characters that I draw have enough distinct differences that you can tell them apart. I may draw the faces pretty similar, but not similar enough that you can't distinguish them.
I have the exact opposite of this syndrome lmao XD everytime i try to draw the same character or twins they always look so different ;-;
Twins dont have to be identical

Yes, not all twins are identical, I support your comment. But even siblings that were born 8 years apart should look similar.
me: [draws two different characters] why do they look the same
me: [draws two drawings of the same character] wHY DO THEY LOOK SO DIFFERENT

Worn out places, worn out faces
Here’s a tip:
If you’re still struggling with same face syndrome
Start with changing the eye shape, then the nose shape, then lastly the mouth shape. Those first steps will help so much.
And if after those three changes, if it still look to similar; change the less noticeable facial features. It will really help.
Pretty sure you just described 90% of the human face, but ok cool.
Face shape is also just as important (Jawline, hairline, cheeks etc)
Yes
I make a character face based on his/her past, Examples:
The OC had a fight, make it look like a gangster maybe with some piercing (but not like JoJo 5 😂)
The OC has a quite life, make it look like a gentleman idk with hair like Yoshikage Kira (Idk how to say it lol)
Honestly I think the actual face shape (ie. round/square/high cheekbones/low cheekbones) is one of the most important things too.
"Why does no body ever talk about same body syndrome?"
Me: I HAVE THAT. I HAVNT HEARD OF IT BEFORE BUT I HAVE IT.
i have it too

It would be nice if you also mention facial spacing. You changed the face shape but you can also change the distance between eye to eye, nose to mouth, mouth to chin. Having your features closer together, for example may make the character look cuter than if they're further.

drawing characters inconsistently
just try to draw them many times to a look you remember them by, or you could count how many noticeable eyelashes they have or remembering the distance of their eyes. theres many ways on how to draw a character consistantly
Me too D;
I suggest to keep drawing them for a little and experiment a bit. You’ll eventually find a design that sticks and you can consistently draw
(it works for me at least)
you gatta draw a lot and regularly to find a stile you like and you find easy enough to do.
Pro: Consistent drawing
Con: Same-face syndrome
People are going to say "oh but so and so just made this video" and im here to clarify.
1: it takes days and even weeks to create a video, not something you just do overnight. She wouldnt have saw a recent video and immediately go "mmmmmmm yeah me too"
2: most youtubers (not all) have a schedule, or a basic plan as to what their next few videos will be about.
@@robynnhoud Axolotl!!! 😛

Yea, look at HEAPS of different clothing on characters. Draw your own characters, and then draw different clothing on them each time. Do an intensive week long practice on clothing.

@@lefaboo3941 No thicc as in curvy
You are making me triggered because you misspelled Rapunzel.
Yeah great point, though the same about it, also ears can make a huge difference
The first thing I thought of was "Dragon Ball Z" but I haven't watched that show in literal years and I don't watch anime anyway.
Bnha is a good example of different faces. You can compare Momo's face to Uraraka's face and know exactly who's who.
Uhh.... Well, Boku no Hero Academia has some pretty different faces. Maybe you can start by changing the eye shape and the iris shape? I started studying the BNHA art style and I've learned alot from it.
the ultimate same face syndrome: south park
EmoHairAnimations I love that art style I fuse it with the Powerpuff girls style all the time.
The only one who doesn't suffer from it is Cartman because he is a fatass. I understand it though because of how simple the style is.
Yet the characters are instantly recognisable due to their colour scheme.
*gasps*
EmoHairAnimations Haha I instantly thought of South Park when she mentioned same face syndrome in media.
My characters have similar face features becouse its a important story plot point, but when i draw my other characters i do go straith for the same face shape, its hard to draw different faces but, it is avoidable

The one anime that doesn't look like a commonly used base
That’s why Soul Eater is my favourite anime-
yep it has an amazing way of making every character unique and still looks amazing and interesting
Adventures with Sam as long as it doesn't create a monstrosity like The Problem Solverz I'm all for it

I agree, all CGI Disney/Pixar films sort of blur together visually.
… and then of course the final product for elsa is a plastic doll fit for the merchapocalypse after the release.
alexandra galici
Exactly!
Renoldo Jeffrey I agree.

Anyone have tips for drawing the same face for a specific character?
Sakari's Edits I don’t know but I guess maybe trying to draw each characteristic separately until you remember? Just so that you get the hang of it and then draw them together. Honestly I am no expert, but I feel that might help.
take a piece of tracing paper, and trace their face 20-40 times. then try drawing the face on a piece of regular paper
Draw them over and over and over again..
Maybe..
Sakareeh
First, make a character design sheet. Heavily reference it so you understand the way the shapes curve, how sharp the facial features are and other shapes and figures. Soon you will be able to draw it without reference, and if you’re still not able to, keep trying! Switch things up a little, move out of your comfort zone! Good luck.
Sakareeh look at the face design get a spare peice of paper and draw its head and lightly experiment, trying to match with its personality (depending on what it is it can vary) and design it so you have other emotions, it works with most of my ones (except Echo and Aqua because their my main ones)
Edit: I am no artist, just my tips that help

species or head shapes, I mean it’s good for a web comic that you have different heads but on an animation.... no
Honestly im confused about how people use flipaclip, Theres no blending modes, No clipping, You cant even change the opacity of layers, Also, No smudge tool or blur option, Also i think some more brushes would be nice but thats more of a personal preference, Idk how people do anything with flipaclip, I know its more accessible then alot of other animation programs, But procreate is fairly accessible (only on apple products and costs money, So thats why i didnt just say accessible) and it has a animation feature, Yes you are limited to only 200+ frames since thats the limit for layers and layers and frames are counted as the same thing, So you cant make a super long animation, But you can turn that into clips and put those clips together in an editing program like kinemaster, And for audio you can just add that in a editing program and mess around until it fits decently, I do understand that procreate isnt accessible for alot of people since iphones and ipads are more expensive then other tablets and phones, And even if somebody did buy a iphone/ipad for procreate, It still costs money (on iphone 5 dollars and on ipad 10), So i understand that some people might not want to pay that much, But if you are able to afford it, Then i would recommend it, Its definitely a step up from flipaclip, Its alot more complicated, I had some problems when trying to use procreate for the first time, And i didnt know how anything worked, Instead of using the add blend mode i used the light pen and light brush, Instead of using the multiply blend mode i just darkened the color of the area i was trying to shade, Instead of using the smudge tool i used blur, Most of my art ended up looking terrible because of me not understanding how procreate works, Instead of actually taking time to learn how it worked, I just saw somebody using it to make cool art, And i downloaded it without knowing anything about it, I just assumed that the app was what made the art good, And not the fact that the person had years of experience, And put hours of work into that drawing, I just thought 'Oh hey!

Idk man I dont use Flipaclip anymore I just draw in ibis and connect them together in Kinemaster
What’s your favorite idea
Mine is being creative
Let's agree to never be creative again.
Green is not a creative color
It's time to get creative
How did you get this idea
I just try to think creatively
*_HOW DO YOU GET DA IDEA?_*
Thanks, Haley!
i love u sooo much u are makeing my art get better every time in the day im so thankfull!!
Oof yeah the straight-forward pose will kill ya
Not sure if you're still looking for advice, and you might already know this, but I figure it couldn't hurt to tell you that LavenderTowne uploaded a video recently about making more interesting poses
Lavendertowne is so cute I’d highkey take her out on the cutest date 💖

She seems really cool to hang out with! I wanna go get milkshakes with her and browse art stuff. Haley is the kind of girl who'd be your best friend for life and is basically the embodiment of a marshmallow.
that’s hella gay but i love it regardless

Thank you for posting this video. I figured out that two of my characters had same face syndrome, so I had to change them up.
i guess it depends on what the cast looks like
if its kinda like "Happy tree friends" then i guess its not that bad, but if its a game like "Mario bros" then a character might need to look different and recognisable
Sugarlad the Cryo hehe, happy tree friends lol
Yup this used to be me emo hair big eye's and weird cat face's don't you just love childhood art T^T
yes, also me. in 5th grade.
stormie Pegasus yep....only an edgy teen could love this kind of art...*gags a little*
You could copy paste any character from A1 pictures animes
I tried the same-face syndrome test and I actually don't have same-face syndrome! I use to have same-face syndrome a lot at younger ages, but now that I've learned a lot more, I've been able to change faces up. Of course they have some similar factors and you can tell they were made by the same person, but you can definitely see big differences! The exercise also helped! I tried to vary expressions and shapes. I would have rectangular face characters with round eyes and round face characters with sharp eyes! Anyways, sorry for talking a lot! This was still pretty helpful though 😌
Why do some people think you are evil HOW CAN YOU YOOUU BE EVIL??!!
WAIT HOLD UP?! When did she get an animated intro?!??
Quibble Art I think this is her 2nd video with this intro so im guessing just 3 days ago?
ahh the intro!! I love it

Mr. Oscar thank you so much! I really appreciate the reply and advice!
Izzy Bizzy2468 I'm another 11 year old artist, you might want to try changing the proportions a bit. (Some have bigger mouths, some might have smaller ears.)
Always push out of your comfort zone. That's how you improve !
Zac Draws Stuff Thank you for the advice!
Try different shapes to base your faces off! Start with a triangle or a circle (any shape really) and place the facial features on. Just experiment a lot with the spacing of the facial features on the face too. I hope this helps.
you: "Think of a Cartoon show you watch"
me: "Miraculous Ladybug"
This is so helpful, and also this is just like real life.
We all change are clothes, Hair, etc. but we all still can know who is who because our faces.
Anyways, love your videos so much they always improve my drawing.
I’m trying to avoid the same face syndrome but It’s hard...
Anime. Just
Anime.
Just Me most, dude. MOST. like 90% lol

Pink Puggeh
Uh, My Hero Academia ??
Attack On Titan?? etc?
I expected her to mention anime tbh lmao
depends on the anime tbh
like yes, most of them definitely has the same face syndrome, but there are also some that don't, which is great.
My drawings these days never have the same faces.
*_BECAUSE I NEVER GET SATISFIED OF HOW THEY LOOK HNNNNGHHGHDGDK_*
