      @@annearul6316 it’s Janome Harmony 9102D. Yes it’s very basic. There are some other functions that it can do but i only use it as a serger. Thanks for asking.

    This is how you do it! I'm so glad you went out of your way to transform this couch the proper way and not just put fabric on top of the old fabric. Most other videos did and it looked so sloppy! Great work! 👍

    this was helpful! I am intimidated about reupholstering a beautiful and solid couch that our rabbits chewed after a neighbor's kids tore up the upholstery a bit. Reading through this thread and I will rewatch your video.

    I am so happy that I found this video! I wish I could post pictures here, but such is life. I am in the tear down stage on my couch right now. Unlike your video I will be replacing the foam padding as this couch has been stored for years and the foam smells musty. Your video is very helpful for when I start the upolstery process.     Great video and I loved the instructional bit about putting the zipper on and using a basting stitch! I am going to be tapping myself for reupholstering later this year and that sewing tip was super helpful

    Loved this! Looks scary to do but you made it look easy lol. The string parts got me confused and concerned. I love the diy-ing...upholstery costs the same as a brand new sofa...$1200!

    Thank you for sharing this video. Your couch looks like it came out great. It would have been nice if you gave a clear view of the entire couch finished. it is covered by the pillows and you sitting in front.

      Aww thanks for the review. I’ll keep that in mind next time. I’ll take longer videos of the finished product. I’ve since sold the couch and new owners absolutely love it. They washed some of my coffee stains off it and kept to the fabric. It gave their home that design element they needed.

      Yeah you definitely could. But then you will have to measure the fabric while the fabric is on the couch.

    Take your cell phone. Take pictures so you remember how you took it apart so you know how to put back together.

    About how long did the entire process take? I'm tempted to try doing my "new" craiglist couch, but I'm scared of the time commitment. I did do an entire set of dining chairs, so I do have some experience, but a couch seems so much more intense lol

      yes a couch is intense. mine took me 2 days of working 4 hours a day. so 8 hours in total. the first day I ripped everything and just measured and cut fabric. then the second day I sewed and put together. and this love seat is only a 2 seater really. look at it this way, how much are you willing to put in to learn something by doing? if your project is a fail, you will learn where you went wrong. don't give up. good luck. :)

    What sewing machine are you using and any special cotton?

      A singer normal domestic sewing machine. I used curtain fabric. Any curtain or upholstery fabric will work. If you use apparel fabric the covers will tear after a while as it wears easier.

      No. I think get used to sewing first. I wouldn’t try if you can’t sew with a machine.

    Also..I want to do this, but my.sofa legs cannot be removed. Ideas?

      How about making cuts in the fabric to wrap around the sofa legs instead and staple them tight and well so they essentially look like the legs were removed and then the sofa was upholstered.

    How many hours did this project take you?

      Between 10-12 hours. I did break it up into 3 days of about 4 hours work. Because it can get very tiring to just keep sewing and cutting.

    what fabric do you recommend? im worried if i dont use upholstery fabric it will bobble or tear after a while

      Curtain fabric works just as well. I used curtain fabric and it’s holding up great till today. A cotton mix polyester tightly woven fabric is best. Try to avoid the ones with texture such as tapestry.

    Amazing video, thank you very much for that! We are trying to reupholster our sofa to make it an outdoor furniture and we would like to cover it a weatherproof layer. We do not own a sewing machine yet and I would really appreciate if someone would recommend a good ne for upholstery :)

      hi. making your furniture into outdoor furniture would be amazing. if you're not so much into sewing and only want to do the occasional sewing then ikea jas a pretty good priced one. otherwise the Brother brand is very good in that it has many functions and is priced well too. good luck dear.

    Hey. Roughly how much fabric did you use for reupholstering your couch?

      Hi. I used about a little less than 8 metres of fabric which was at 150cm width. I could have used at least 1 metre or slightly more less but because I had a pattern which I had to keep unidirectional, i ended up using most of the 8metres. I probably have like 70cm of fabric left which I could use to make a couple of more standard sized cushions. hope that helps. :)

      I did not rely on calculations solely. I estimated 8m of fabric for this project and had about a meter left.

    Thx for the video, but this is not for beginners. You mention this kind of stitch & that kind & you use a lot of sowing terms that I just lost interest bc I was just reacting to myself, “what….what…..what?” I’m sure you meant well, but it as a bit much for me.
