    This tutorial is for the sewing challenged buddies out there like myself. I intend to teach myself how to use our sewing machine, but our couches just couldn't wait that long. So here's how we're living with what we've got in the meantime.

    Great idea! I will pass this on to friends who don't sew and are looking for a quick and affordable option to change their couch. Only down side to covering the darker-colored couch and pillows with the lighter-colored dropcloth is that you can see the original fabric underneath. An easy remedy for that would be to first pin an old white sheet (or cheapie new one bought at the dollar store or thrift store) to the couch/pillows first, and then pin the dropcloth in place. The white sheet will usually hide the original fabric, no matter how dark or bold. Great job!

    Doing this as we speak. By far the best no sew cover video! I have four kids, 3 boys 16 on down to 6, and a 3 year old girl, and I’ve had the same sofas for like 10 years probably. Dreaming of the day it’s safe to get my pottery barn slipcover sofa ❤️😂

    I love drop cloth projects! I use to do this when my kids were small but with bed sheets and upholstery twist pins. It would stay on even with all the jumping they would do.

    Your method is elegantly simple. And it is beautiful. Years ago, I attempted something similar, but I didn’t know about Terrierists! Both our rescue terriers have been incredibly attracted to pins on our sofas, and delighted in disemboweling the store bought stuffed quilted sofa covers. Returning home from work, I would find wads of the fluff dotted around the living room rug. And, pinning spare sheets onto the sofas gave them their next thrill! They located, chomped to flatten, and yanked off all the pins they could, thankfully not eating, but only spitting the mangled pieces onto the floor. The struggle is real!

    I’m a sewer and I’ve discovered that sometimes we sewers go toward the most complicated method possible! Thanks for showing a simple way to accomplish what it has taken me many hours to do- and for inspiring me to, at least sometimes, go “KISS”

    I just found your channel and I’m soooo glad I did! My sofas are 10 years old and the color doesn’t go with my decor. Like you, I don’t want to spend the money for new sofas and the sofa covers are so expensive. I never thought of using drop cloths! 😱 I’ve made my kitchen curtains out of them and now will use it for my sofas thanks to you!!! Thank you!!

    I definitely recommend using stitch witchery or a no sew bonding tape. You can even add an elastic with no sew on the skirt for around the bottom. You could do the same with the seat cushions so you don't have to pin. Go a step further and add double sided velcro cut your fabric to the exact shape as the front of the arms then stick them on last. Plus it would make it easier for when you wash them and have to put them back on. Great idea though. Especially if you love the shape of your furniture and it's still comfortable.

    • @sarahcurrence7642
      @sarahcurrence7642 3 роки тому +1

      You can also use the white linen table cloths for a lot a stuff too. They get softer with every wash. Yet still hold their shape.

      Not to hijack this wonderful video, but I have made a cover for a sectional before and it worked out great. Before I knew about drop cloth material, I bought exactly 15 yards of 60” wide quilted muslin. It amazingly was just a fit for my sectional. What I did was drape the fabric over the sectional wrong side out. Then I pleated and tucked and pinned where I needed it to fit. I sewed those areas where I had pinned. Turned the fabric right side out and worked it to fit. It was huge as one big piece but I was able to wash in the washing machine and dry it pretty good. I also want to note that washing it and drying it makes it softer so it helps. It amazingly comes out wrinkle free from the dryer. I don’t bother to bleach the drop cloth. I like the natural color.

    I did try this method on a love seat. I live alone so I'm the only one that uses the love seat. I will say that at first it looks nice but over the months it does not hold up. The pins do not hold the fabric in a stable fashion. I will say that this gave me the idea that I could cover my love seat with this fabric but I will use a staple gun for some parts with a little sewing instead of safety pins.
