I’m so sorry I missed your comment Gillian! I would go for the Bambi Silent compressor, it’s the one I use and it’s a good compressor. And I use Tacwise guns and they’re really reasonably priced and work great! For general upholstery I use 8mm-10mm staples and then for places like outside backs where you’ll be stapling into more than one fabric I use 12-14mm staples. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻

Hi there! No it cuts them clean at the wood so there’s no sharp edges when you run your hand over them. And if you do feel any, you can hammer them down. You also shouldn’t put fabric directly on to the wood, you’d have foam and dacron before the fabric.

Hi there! Sorry for the delayed reply, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment 😊 yes you can absolutely reupholster the inside back without buttons (and you’re right, it would be easier!) but you would need to replace the foam otherwise you’d see the holes in the foam once you put the new fabric on. The metal gripper is what I use for outside backs and arms - here’s a video showing you how I do an outside back which might explain the gripper better for you: ua-cam.com/video/2bFbJJ76RRw/v-deo.html I also have another video on just an outside arm if you find it helpful too 😊 I hope this helps!!

Hi Rita! It was actually on the bottom of the curve of them arm and then you put another one on the bottom of the inside arm. Sorry about my large head getting in the way of the shot!! 🙈
Hi, I just discovered your channel and subscribed! I tread through the comments, but I’m kind of unsure about what the collar is. You mentioned that it’s a piece of material for corners, but is there a video that goes through that as well? Thank you!
Hi Kathryn! Thank you so much for watching and for subscribing, it really means a lot! So a collar is a piece of fabric that you sew on (in the same fabric as you’re upholstering the chair in) to assist you around bends or corners and stops the fabrics gathering up. You usually put them on inside backs. I explain them in a little more detail in this video but I think I will need to make a video specifically on them as I haven’t done that yet ua-cam.com/video/JDkaZFao-BY/v-deo.html
I’ve never reupholstered anything in my life, but I’ve just claimed a beautiful wing backed chair for free. It needs reupholstering. Would you recommend I strip it first because I was planning to keep to old fabric underneath. Stripping it all away seems so brutal for a complete novice. Would doubling up on the fabric be awful?
Hi Julie - you can upholster over old fabric but I wouldn’t really recommend doing it. I find carefully stripping off the old fabric and using it as a template to copy on to the new fabric an easy way to make sure you have enough fabric and the right shapes for the furniture. But it’s not an absolute no no to upholster over old fabric if you feel more confident doing it that way...unless it’s leather, I wouldn’t upholster over leather 🤣 I’ve recently uploaded a video on how to use the old fabric to cut your new fabric - here’s the link ua-cam.com/video/ExcobHrP2kY/v-deo.html I’m planning a video soon to show how to upholster wings of a chair so hopefully that will help too 😊👍🏻
Hi mate, hope you and the family are good 👍 could you let me know what the fabrics called mate. Ive got 6 balloon back chairs that would look lovely in that. Cheers mate 👍
Hi mate! Good to hear from you, I hope your well too and business is going good 👍🏻 Me and the family are well thanks mate. The fabric is by Sunbury called ‘Cavalli Guava’ - it’s a really lovely fabric 👍🏻
Can I ask how much would that chair have cost in total to recover (that fabric)? We have a similar chair to recover and I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it. Thanks.
Hi there! Sorry for the delayed reply. This fabric retails around £45 a metre and you’d need around 6 metres to cover. And then depending on whether you do it yourself or get an upholsterer to do the work will depend on their labour costs.
Hi Joanne, thanks so much for watching and for your comment 😊👍🏻 We would be able to source it for you if you’re from the UK? Send me an email and we’ll help. Neilbanyard@faceliftinteriors.co.uk
Hi Mika! Thank you for watching! Unless the springs are completely broken you should be able to tighten the springs with webbing. But this does depend on what kind of springs they are?
My hands are sore from taking down 2 yes 2, I am Reupholstering 2 armchairs for my wife as a Christmas gift , she has hard it over many years from her grandma who left it to her . taking down is the worse I have done this before but this one is different , thank you for this.... the only thing I removed is the springs which I wont be putting back any ideas? again thanks for this
Hi there! Yea stripping down furniture is not easy - especially if it’s old furniture as they tend to be made with solid wood, which makes taking out staples a lot harder (but the furniture does last longer!!) I have uploaded a video where I reupholstered an older chair and removed the springs and replaced with webbing - here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/JDkaZFao-BY/v-deo.html hope this is helpful!
@@faceliftinteriors oh I know that’s my favorite video but the way my mind is set up I’m thinking the webbing isn’t strong enough 🤭 so I place a flat plywood for the bace
Hi there! 9 times out of 10 I do the seat last so you can staple off the inside arms and inside back without having any springs and foam etc in the way. However, it does depend on the design of the chair as sometimes you’re not able to do it this way.
Can you please make a video for sofa or chair upholstery with detailed explanation how to sew together fabric u cut. People in a videos like this always skip sewing part or just speed it up. There's lot of people who want this.

@@faceliftinteriors Thank you for coming back to me. That’s about what I expected.
Hello i have a chair to recover, your video great thank you, could you please tell me where the fabric is called and where i could buy it? 😃
Hi Joanne, thanks so much for watching and for your comment 😊👍🏻 We would be able to source it for you if you’re from the UK? Send me an email and we’ll help. Neilbanyard@faceliftinteriors.co.uk
@@faceliftinteriors thank you will email you in bit 😁
Just found your channel. Super helpful. Thank you. I’m a beginner and I’m wondering how do you know wether or not you need to replace old springs?
Hi Mika! Thank you for watching! Unless the springs are completely broken you should be able to tighten the springs with webbing. But this does depend on what kind of springs they are?
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for watching!! 😊👍🏻
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Sasha!
Hope I can do this with my new chairs
Good luck with your project!! 😊👍🏻
What kind of sponge you use
Sorry for delayed reply - I’ve made a video on foams to use, here is it ua-cam.com/video/jbfhtRP3gIQ/v-deo.html I hope this helps 😊👍🏻
How high is you working upholstery table as it looks like a nice heights
Hi! I use adjustable trestles so I can alter the height as I need it. Hope this helps! 😊👍🏻
super!!
Thank you Anya!
Does it matter if you do the inside arms or the seat first? Other videos show the seat first.
Hi there! 9 times out of 10 I do the seat last so you can staple off the inside arms and inside back without having any springs and foam etc in the way. However, it does depend on the design of the chair as sometimes you’re not able to do it this way.
@@thecamoflaugemetaldetector1661 Thanks! Thats what I thought.
Where is this fabric from? Looking for something similar.
Hi Evelyn! It’s by Sunbury Designs in the UK 😊👍🏻
Nice mate.
Cheers Reece 👍🏻
How many yards or meters of fabric did you use?
Hi Jean - around 5-6 metres 😊
Bravo
😊🙏
Now I understand why reupholstering furniture is so expensive. What a chore!
A fun chore 😜
Can you do a video on how to upholster a single leather sofa seat area thank you
Hi there! Yes I am planning on doing a tutorial on how to do a seat on a sofa/ chair so I will be getting that up soon 😊👍🏻
