      @@jordancarter4051 Yeah it is something that any Moroccan would recognize. We do have western style sofas but in most homes, you will have what we call a western guestroom with sofas and a coffee table as well as a traditional Moroccan guestroom with embellished wood frames that go all the way around the room, on top of those wood frames we have something that looks like a narrow mattress, which is covered with tick traditional embellished covers that match the pillows that go all around the room as well. I hope that was not a long add on answer lol

  • @AttackSociety

    The reason hers is so expensive is because of the kind of couch she's looking for. A 5 person sectional isn't ever gonna cost less the 1,000 unless it's second hand.

    • @chrisbrownlov1
      @chrisbrownlov1 4 роки тому +6

      It was mainly the sheets. You can get a couch that seats the same and even more for way cheaper. I've found some from 600 brand new from Wayfair. But he's has alot of function and versatility so I'd say it's worth it. Still could have been cheaper from the sheets

      I would be the type of person to have everyday sheets for just lounging around in. I already know they would be the sheets that feel like an old cotton tshirt! 😂🤣🤦‍♀️ Then I would save my expensive linen sheets for when I had guest. I would also probably have some that match for spares so I can wash the sets at the same time. Some materials wear differently after being washed.

    Girl ikea couches come with 5 to 15 year warrantys depending on what couch you get. I have a 500 usd sectional that has a 10 year warranty. If anything happens all i have to do is go in with the couch and they will swap it with a new couch.

      Yea a couch that looks like theirs should cost 300 dollars to make. Yes it's large but the backrest and everything looks cheap. The one we have which is a professionally made sofa with armrests and everything was 200 dollars (it is second hand I'll admit, but in great condition). For 1400 dollars you can buy a better sofa than that. Just because it is not $10,000 like the "cloud sofa" doesn't make it a cheap hack.

    • @WintrBorn
      @WintrBorn 5 років тому +40

      Admittedly, it can be done a lot cheaper. My local Big Lots has great matresses, the frame wouldn't be too hard to DIY, I can get plain sheets to dye (because with pets and kids, white is a nonstarter) from Goodwill. The foam would have to be bought, and the wood I might be able to source cheaply.
      Adding that it's a sofabed, and not a tiny one, does raise the value of the final product. And if you have ever slept on a sofabed, especially an older model, you know they aren't the best.

    If you staple some left over fabric to the front of the bed (planks) it would look more high end and it doesn't cost much extra, we did it for the guest room. If you wet the fabric and pull it somewhat tight before stapeling it, it wil shrink and it looks like a proffesional made couch.

Add the fact that my kid recently gutted the inside of the three seater so now I have virtually no real comfortable or cute options at home and so far all the L shaped sofas are either too big or too expensive and this just opened up a world of possibilities

    how is a 2pk of shams more expensive than a twin fitted sheet 🤔 I would've bought 1 or 2 more sheets and made the pillows. Overall came out really cool though as well as versatile which is the most important. Love that you can push together a king bed out of it.
    also a hot tip for the future, fabric store upholstery foam is always expensive, you can usually find walmart or amazon foam mattress toppers in whatever thickness you want for cheaper, you can buy the biggest size and then cut it. I bought a 3" queen foam mattress topper for 20$ last year on target clearance and used it to make an upholstered headboard.

      I did one for $500! 2 twin zinus mattresses, 2 twin zinus frames (I used bedskirts to cover the black metal). Find/buy high density foam wrapped in batting and cover it with two twin sheets (came with the twin sheet sets I bought. Used the fitted sheet to cover the mattresses). Buy a few king sized pillows, cut open the ends and stuff them with added stuffing for support so you can lean back and not hit your head against the wall (I bought a box of stuffing from Walmart for 20-30 bucks). Get a few cute throw pillows to make it look complete and voila!

    EXCELLENT! BRAVO!
    Thank you so much for sharing. I've had this idea in my head for some time, but in ones head and in reality is two different beast! Now I see it in action and extremely pleased! You like the same $13000. sofa I do! I'm not posh, I want that $13k couch because I spend HOURS on my couch crocheting, watching movies and have 3 broken disc in my spine. I "need" a comfy, softish sofa. Finally I too need a place for company and self to sleep; sometimes the living room and couch is the most cozy more so around the holidays!
    We must be soul sisters because you did everything I would do! Extra money on the fabrics (linen sheets, etc), used memory foam toppers.
    The best thing about your DIY, is one can start with the bed frame and mattresses, save up and shop around for bargains on everything else. They are functional until the entire sofa is complete. Course if one wanted to make it even more like the $13k sofa, seat cushions can be made and again one can save up to buy goose down with some decent batting.
    FTR: I don't know how far they will ship however, "Myers Goods Home & Decor" in Charlotte, NC have a sectional close to the $13k sectional, one can order the pieces wanted. I need 4 pieces, with delivery it came to $1400. I sat on it and inspected in showroom, the fabric is extremely soft and the seat, not firm and not too soft, just right. They work with ya on price a tad. myersgoods.com/products/hobson-sloped-track-arms-sofa-off-white Ask for Pamela.

      get high density foam wrapped in batting (covered in matching sheets) to put behind pillows. Make your pillows sturdier by stuffing them more and you can close in some of that deep space so people can lean back. I'm short and I made my own sofa this way.

    Looks good! I would recommend upholstering the timber sections on the bed and also adding some eyelets to the underside of the fitted sheets so you can lace them to be nice and taught. Well done though.

    • @anmnou
      @anmnou 5 років тому

    • @maryloubrouillard9051
      @maryloubrouillard9051 5 років тому +7

      They can buy some straps for those instead. It's made exactly for that reason and also keeps it from slipping. It almost looks like suspenders but in a triangle shape with three clamps. That way, there is no holes made in the sheets. 😊

    • @NicoleHerrickDIY
      @NicoleHerrickDIY 5 років тому +7

      Yes that’s true, you can buy them, but they already have the straps underneath. The eyelets need a reinforcement strip so the sheets don’t rip. You can buy an eyelet gun from your local hardware or haberdashery store. You simply add an eyelet every 20cm or so, then lace it up like a shoe to keep everything super taught. If it were me I would buy upholstery linen and sew zipper covers.

      tbh it's pretty easy! just assemble the utaker beds with mattresses + pillows, and then for the back part, cut two lengths of the bed and one width (shorter) of plywood. then take the foam you bought and glue it down using spray adhesive and upholster with whatever fabric (make sure it's a little bigger than the wood but not big enough to cover the back) you choose by pulling tightly and stapling it to the back - can then staple/glue a piece of fabric to hide the back of the wood. then just drill/screw it with multiple screws into the bottom of the bed frame and ur done! (lots of vids for upholstering if u want more visuals on youtube!)

    • @firesuck9
      @firesuck9 2 роки тому

      also if you really wanted to make this more inexpensive it would have been a lot cheaper to build the bed frame itself than buy it from ikea i think
