@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee I'll see your Julian Bream and raised you Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler. :) (while my dusty guitar snorts at me from the corner of my study)
Christine wrote most of the pop hits, Stevie wrote the mystical songs as well as her unique iconic voice, Lindsey wrote most of the rock songs and brought the intensity to the group. They were a true 3 headed monster, then add the rythym section who are the name of Fleetwood Mac and they were certainly one of the most iconic bands of all time.
To see his very best performance, check out "Fleetwood Mac - Big Love (Live: The Dance)" - this live version is VERY different from the single version, it's just him and an acoustic guitar, but it's hands down the most impressive thing EVER. If you think this blew you away, "Big Love" will leave you speechless!
His play is a style unto itself which is something in the guitar world. He famously refuses to play with a pick. He uses his fingers to strum and much of his play is finger picking. Fleetwood pleaded with him to use a pick but he wouldn’t. His guitar sensibility is quite unique in accordance with his unique style. He is most modest when it comes to his playing admittedly he’s self taught.
Lindsey has always been extremely underrated. His guitar playing is up there with all the greatest gutarists. And his vocals are pretty awesome too! You should really watch the live version of "Big Love" from the 1997 "the dance" concert! He will blow you away playing acoustic guitar. It's the best version of big love ever! The dude literally plays lead and rhythm guitar at the same time on that acoustic! That performance alone puts him in guitar god status. Not to mention the work he did before he an Stevie joined FM. The thing is, he is so ridiculously humble about his guitar playing abilities. If you didn't know who he was and met him on the street, you would probably never know he even played guitar.
I'm a big Fleetwood Mac fan and hadn't seen the live version of this song before. Thanks for sharing it!!! Neither Lindsey Buckingham or Mark Knopfler use picks, just stunning talent.
in an interview with conan o'brien, lindsey tells him that he started running the band on their very FIRST day of practice together since not one of the other FM band members were doing it.
For a great example of Lindsey Buckingham's excellent guitar work go way back to before Lindsey and Stevie joined Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey and Stevie put out their own album titled simply Buckingham Nicks. It is an absolutely outstanding album. The guitar solo on the song Frozen Love is fantastic!
100 and, Frozen Love is what Mick Fleetwood noticed while checking out a recording studio. A few weeks later, he invited Lindsey to join, he said yes, if you also bring in my partner Stevie Nicks, History was born.
I've seen many ways of finger picking a guitar, but not once anyone like Lindsay. He has the most awkward way of playing, but the sounds he can make is pure honey for your ears.
Aside from “Big Love” from “The Dance,” you need to check out a live version of “The Chain” from 1982. And Lindsey being in the “emotional pocket” in this performance is a great description, Phil.
One of Fleetwood Mac's best and most underrated tunes ever. My fav tunes tend to be written by Lindsey. He writes the hardest rocking stuff, and is an incredible lead guitarist. Big Love from him is another gem. Listen to the LIVE VIDEO VERSION FROM "THE DANCE" CONCERT REUNION. Then you can SEE and hear him do his thing on an acoustic which will blow your mind!
if you ever get the chance to see him live, DO IT! No matter what it takes...prob the most intense dude I have ever seen, pure passion...and I have only seen him once
You need to react to Big Love live from the 1997 Fleetwood Mac live “The Dance” concert performance. Amazing performance that he did solo during the concert. His acoustic guitar work, playing both the rhythm and lead at the same time, and vocals are astounding.
I've seen FM twice, both times expecting to pay all my attention to Christine and Stevie. Instead, Lindsey captured my attention the entire concerts.( I'm not a guitarist, but have heard others say that it's a custom built one.)
Finally someone mentioned how LB is the life of their shows. I refused to even watch when Neil Finn and Mike Campbell, who I think is fantastic, replaced Buckingham on the last tour. It was a smack in the face for his fans
"Fleetwood Mac - Big Love (Live: The Dance)" or earlier "Never Goin Back Again" ... Buckingham was a monster guitarist but a shear power vocalist also. The first song to make it big off the album Rumors was the rocking "Go Your Own Way" followed by Christine's "You Make Loving Fun" and then Stevie's "Dreams".
The last two times I saw FM, of the four times in all, Lyndsey was by far the dominant member. He is a very underrated artist overall, but particularly as a guitarist.
This is a great example of how seriously good Lindsey is, but look back at the original concerts like '73 ( i think) to see how incredibly different this song was for the time. And his voice was even better back then.
When I first heard Lindsey Buckingham I recognized he was an excellent guitarist and have always wondered why he was not often mentioned more alongside other greats as top notch, which he is! Great reaction. They were such a great band live!
BIG LOVE live from “The Dance” tour in 1997!! Lindsey will amaze you with his guitar work while singing. Anyone that doesn’t consider him one of the greatest guitarist of all time is a complete Dumb🫏!!
Apart from Lindsey, I have never been into guitar solos. Most of the time they seem selfindulgent, but Lindsey always seems to have something that lifts it to an artform.
Yeah, he is only ranked 110th by Rolling Stone magazine. Primarily because Lindsey plays the guitar in a supporting way to what each song needs. However, most guitarist know that Lindsey is a guitar god. He doesn't use a pick and can switch from playing lead to paying rhythm at will. Something that very few guitarist can do and he does it very well.
Album Fleetwood Mac. Most underrated song by Fleetwood Mac, recorded version "Blue Letter". Probably their most rock song, haven't heard a live version that does it justice. Kind of like "Already Gone" by the Eagles. Heard a pretty good version live of Already Gone when they played in Australia. Side note, love that Lindsay Buckingham plays guitar with his fingers like Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits does.
Also, that rhythm section is in my top 10, Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass have been the beat f such great, evolving music since back in the 60s with John Mayall, tremendous in concert, I was beyond impressed when I saw them.
I was Lucky enough to catch the band way back in '82 (I'm 63 now, so 19 then), at the first "US Festival, In California. When Fleetwood Mac came on (final Headliner, final day), I will never forget their opening with "Tusk"... the bass was so overwhelming, I saw at least 4 ppl toss their cookies.. it rumbled through you like it was trying to jellify your innards. lol.. they were GREAT. SO, they played I think 3 tunes only, with the promise/invitation to come back EARLY the next day, for "Breakfast with The Dead", and I think they played from around 8 am, to around 1 pm... 5 hours of The Dead! even then probably cut short by organizers so people would go eat. lol. That's all I got... Really do enjoy your channel!!!👍🏼✌🏼🇨🇦
Fleetwood Mac is my #1 all time favorite band ❤ I'm glad to see the love for Lindsey Buckingham ❤️ He's a phenomenal guitar player and an equally phenomenal singer!!!
The album was Fleetwod Mac. This song is so underrated and underplayed studio or live version. Always a great song to listen to. This one really showcases all of the talents with John on bass Christine on keyboards, Mick on the drums and Stevie with backing vocals. Lindsay is so overlooked. His style reminds me somewhat of Mark Knopfler.

I saw a similar performance of this by them in Hartford CT about a dozen or so years ago, he had us hopping up and down, Lindsey is an all time great! 🎸
He’s not really underrated. I mean, he’s on the Rolling Stone list of Top 100 rock guitarists of all time. If you think this was good you need to check out a live performance of a song called Big Love.
Lyndsey Buckingham is Criminally Underrated. Luck enough to see Fleetwood Mac live in ‘79 and I really wasn’t into them. I went with friends and Lyndsey stole the show, which is hard to do with Stevie Nicks in the band. But to me he did with his Singing & Guitar Playing.
Some reactors act as if Fleetwood Mac is little more than a backing band for Stevie Nicks. No, Lindsay Buckingham is the real talent in this band, that's why it took 2 guitarists to replace him when they fired him. I refused to forgive them for that until they brought him back.
I've attended one FM concert, it was great. During what I thought was going to be a break Lindsey did a guitar solo that was out of this world! He is so underrated.
Mick Fleetwood made a smart business move hiring the 2 yanks. Lindsay imo is the main reason they were so successful. He produced all of Stevie's poems into hits for sure. When he left the band, the difference is so real. But the beautiful Stevie is the heart and soul, and generated the cash. Her writings and singing are from the heart.
Wow, first time I've seen this performance by Lindsay. 🤩 Yous should look at Peter Green's performances. He started Fleetwood Mac in the 60's. Albatross is particularly good imo.
"I'm So Afraid" is the song that links later Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green's earlier band because of its depth of emotional power and passion...besides the incendiary solo I love Mick's drumming and Christine's Hammond B-3 that allows Lindsey to ride the momentum all the way to the finish...
Should have done the 97 live version from the Dance concert, so much better than this, a lot crisper playing and more precise . This was from 2003 I think. If you do any more live versions from Fleetwood Mac, do the Dance concert or the one from ‘82
I agree!!! I was wondering if anybody else would mention this. I did like some of the passion Lindsey put into this one but you are right it was a lot crisper and better camera work for the 1997 “Dance Tour” version of this song. They also need to check out the 1997 “Dance Tour” version of the song “Big Love” that Lindsey does. He is just an awesome guitarist!! One of the best in the world in my opinion.
You need to check out Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac '67-'70 Fleetwood Mac '71-'74 (with Bob Welch). John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, and Christine (Perfect) McVie in all of them.
He’s underrated by the public, but not by those of us who play guitar.
🕊❤️🎼
You hit the nail on the head.
He's better than most, but is left off so many list. Not right
ha! came to the comments to say the same thing.

@@ArtieFufkin546 ya, it's my understanding he had a huge influence on the finished product of many of Stevies songs.

Agreed!
THANK YOU!!! Buckingham is the #1 underrated guitarist.
And @calibrax nailed the live performance that shows you why…. Great suggestion!
The dance version is really the only one to listen too.
John McVie is grossly underappreciated as a bassist.
He is absolutely underrated. He should be in the top of the lists of every greatest guitarists in the world.
Absolutely the most underrated guitar player in the history of mankind!!!
I always like Lindsey's playing, but several years back I saw him on one of his solo tours. I was hooked!!!

💯🔥
The song the Chain is probably one of their best live songs to listen to.
Lindsey also sang For your Own Way about Stevie Nicks.
One of my all time favorite groups
Great choice. Saw them live. Oh so good
Lindsey plays a Rick Turner Model 1-DLX-C, a very expensive custom guitar. John Mayer plays a variation of this same guitar.
Best performance of this jam!

As much as you may love a live performance, it's important to then listen to the studio version to get perspective on the song.
Watch "Sound City" by Dave Grohl and you'll hear how Mick Fleetwood discovers Lindsey Buckingham.
Stevie Nicks is not THE lead singer for Fleetwood Mac. The band has 3 lead singers: Stevie, Lindsey, and my favorite Christine Macvee.
One of my go-to tunes for "Take a guess who *this* is".
John mcvie is also under rated as a bass guitar player.
Get that man a band-aid.
This is THE BEST VERSION right here!!!!!!!!!
He should call it, "Claw Hammer". For the same intensity, react to "Silver Spring" from their Dance concert.
Lindsey also performed the song Holiday Road from the Vacation movie with Chevy Chase
Thanks that was fun .
Wow, first time I've seen this performance by Lindsay. 🤩 Yous should look at Peter Green's performances. He started Fleetwood Mac in the 60's. Albatross is particularly good imo.
He is very underrated! Love the Man!!!!!!
Great video ... Buckingham is a GREAT Guitar player also
Notice that he doesn't "pick" the strings with his fingers, rather, he "flicks" them! Most unusual style!
Yes Lindsey Buckingham and Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits for some finger-picking dudes
In spanish lenguage: Ha sido alucinante. Este tipo se te mete en el corazón...
Love Lindsey's long jams! He makes this band worth listening to 😅😊

Don't see any mention of the song 'Come' from the same concert - pretty similar but I reckon he beats the guitar up even more in that one.
Part II 😁 On the album: RUMORS Lindsey sings; GO YOUR OWN WAY, NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN, SECOND HAND NEWS and DON'T STOP!! And THANKS DON!! 🕊️☮️
why is every musician who plays a great solo is always underrated?
this was always my favorite of theirs.... the 1980 live album is the best version

That is a Rick Turner Guitar. He had the 1st 1 made to his speck. & they sorta became a thing,,,, if you want 1 get the check book out
Big Love,The Chain both live are great!
