Mick Fleetwood is one of the best Drummers of the 20th and 21st Centuries. He compliments Lindsey Buckingham in his guitar solo without a doubt. This Band has had their good times and bad times, but they are so in tuned with each other that they are one of the best bands around. I’m a 67 year old woman who has grown up listening to the Greats of Our Generation.
I am a 68 yr old woman. I saw Fleetwood Mac perform in Cincinnati twice in the 70's. They are still my favorite rock band, and I am so glad to see the younger generation enjoying their music. Right there with you. I saw them twice in the 70s, twice in the 80s. They were great every time. Have to say this is the best version of Fleetwood Mac. All versions before this are still very much enjoyable. Bob Welch had several members play on his first solo album after leaving the Mac. So much talent in every version.
That Rick Turner guitar that Lindsey uses came about actually because of John McVie. Before Lindsey & Stevie joined the band, Lindsey preferred Fender guitars. John & Mick asked him to switch to a Les Paul by Gibson. Peter Green the original guitarist and who named the band, Fleetwood Mac, because he said John & Mick were the best rhythm section in the world. Peter used a Les Paul and so did his replacement Bob Welch, who Lindsey replaced, they wanted the thicker sound of the Les Paul. Being new to the band, Lindsey switched but he never liked the action of the Les Paul as compared to his Strat & Tele. John who switches bass styles between a pick and fingers wanted a bass that he didn't have to switch out for which style he wanted play, so he originally got with Rick Turner to make him a bass with the action he wanted. So, Lindsey asked him if he could make a guitar that had the sound of a Les Paul but the fret action of strat. Hince, Lindsey Guitar.

Mahogany body, laminated maple/purpleheart neck, piezo pickup, humbucker magnetic pickup which is mounted on a turnable plate to find the sweet spot of any guitar string, a switch to split the magnetic PU to a singe ecoil, a fade-control for mixing piezo and magnetic pickup and an active parametric eq. This guitar looks tiny but clearly is a masterpiece of Rick Turner. Lindsey wanted something powerful like a Gibson and the Clarity of a Strat beacuse of his finger style technique and loved to handle this guitar like one of his acoustics. Great reaction. Lindsey is phenomenal with his Travis picking technique / style. As other's have mentioned, Big Love is the best showcase of how versatile his skill is. He and Stevie were originally folk rock singers / players and when merged into the rock scene - the catapulting of Fleetwood Mac evolved. Mick Fleetwood is the drummer. My parents played The Dance concert a lot when I was young and what an amazing band.

First time I heard this song was on The Dance live release from '97. I didn't have Fleetwood Mac's self-titled album at that point (Rumours, Tango In The Night & Greatest Hits, yes). Had to pick my jaw off the floor. I think I repeated the song several times in a row - I was blown away! Then I got the DVD of the concert & saw his style - blown away again - he makes it look effortless. Special kudos given to Christine (RIP) on keys, Stevie (vocal harmonies), & especially John (bass) & Mick (drums) for a KILLER rhythm!!
You might like early Fleetwood Mac when Pete Green was in the band. Great guitar player, had a spot with John Mayall's Blues Breakers for a while. Pete formed Fleetwood Mac. He wrote Albatross and Black Magic Woman....
The thing about Lindsey is he changes the guitar solo slightly each tour. I've seen Fleetwood Mac 6 times and his solo show twice (the arrangement of the whole song on his solo shows is stunning) and each time there's a slight tweak that makes it new even though it's still basically the same solo. My favorite version is the Live In Boston performance from 2004 and then his solo live album from 2012. This version actually isn't anywhere near my favorite but it's the band's most famous live performance so everyone automatically thinks of it. I know everyone is saying listen to Big Love, but I would recommend Go Insane from this live concert. It's one of his solo songs from the 1980's that he rearranged as a solo instrumental. It's pretty nuts.
Mick Fleetwood (who looks to be in his 60's here) is a very good and underrated drummer. He used to wear a body drum suit where you hit different parts of your body to create drum sounds and he would do a drum-off with another drummer for 15 minutes.

The 60's through the 90's were exceptional since it was possible to hear this sublime quality across the dial to the extent that it was sometimes impossible to choose what to listen to...The Bands inspiring each other and themselves to rise to even greater heights. Buckingham is one of the most spectacular guitarists of the age and SO-O underrated. While it does have a tonal intonation similar to Pink Floyd; the guitar crying always reminds me of the Steel Guitar from Gordon Lightfoot's Edmund Fitzgerald emulating the wind of the storm, the souls of the terrified Crew Members as well as the families grieving the loss afterwards. Buckingham's 'I'm So Afraid' is one of the most intricate of Fleetwood Mac's many contributions to a level of quality far beyond excellence from the deepest depths of the soul.

I've seen FM twice, and always expect my attention to be on Christine and Stevie, but Lindsey's playing always steals the show for me. And you mentioned Stevie's vocals harmonizing with him so well, they were a duo for many years before joining the Mac.

You should watch the live versions of "Big Love" and "I Go Insane". You would swear it was more than one guitar! Lindsey Buckingham is a genius. He manages to create the bass line with his thumb while maintaining a finger-picking running line solo over the top. TRUST ME! The guitarist in you will geek out.

I am 69 years old. I was a (very young) Fleetwood Mac fan before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band, as I had a thing for Blues/Rock. Once those two joined, those two changed the entire dynamics of the band. Most fans liked the newer version of the band, because of Stevie Nicks vocals. I was always drawn towards Lindsey Buckingham's stellar guitar work. He is in my viewpoint is the most underrated guitarist in Rock and Roll history. And Mich Fleetwood was always a demon on the drums.
If you have a "great guitar playing" playlist, and Big Love (live) isn't on it, then your playlist is incomplete (or very flawed). I'm most familiar with the version from The Dance.
I saw them live at the University of Illinois and sat within 20' of Lindsey at stage height. Best performance I had seen to date, better than Grand Funk at the Odeon Hammersmith in London in '75.
When Lindsey and Stevie joined FWM , Mick at first was concerned that Lindsey finger picked and told him he should probably use a pick...and Stevie stepped in immediately and was like "nooo". Let that genius be!!!

For me, Lindsey Buckingham is one of those great guitarists who make the guitar lyrically sing, but still rock. It’s hard to describe. There are some rock guitarists who are great-Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, but to me it sounds like rock. Others, - like Lindsey, Carlos Santana, Joe Walsh, make to guitar sing with them. Love it!
Brian May is also one who can make his guitar sing. In fact, he speaks of “her” (his guitar, The Red Special’s) “voice”, and purposely composed many of his solos to make his guitar “sing a verse” that was thematically related but not identical to the human vocalist’s verses.
Having seen them perform this live more than once, I could only hope to convey the level of emotion Buckingham’s performance elicited in me and I’m sure all in attendance. The final two times I saw them, the last in 2014, Lyndsey was clearly dominant and the star of band.
I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac. Back then, all this brilliant music was just ... radio. If you're looking to look even further back at rock n roll bad-asses, check out The Small Faces. It's a bit tough to find live performances, but Tin Soldier is a gem (guest starring the beautiful Miss PP Arnold). The Small Faces were *way* before their time and deserve *a lot* more fanfare than they've been given.
Have you done any of the songs by the original lineup of Fleetwood Mac, sometimes referred to as Peter Greene's Fleetwood Mac? They were a proper blues band then, this was prior to Christine, Stevie and Lindsey joining. Check out "Oh Well", "Albatross", "Black Magic Woman" and "Man of the World"!
Dude as a musician you need to watch- “while my guitar gently weeps” cover by Yellow Matter Custard. I’m a drummer that’s been playing metal and prog for 20+ years and this stands out as one of the best guitar performances I’ve ever seen. It’s Paul Gilbert and Mike Portnoy so you know it’s insane.

I love Fleetwood Mac so much! I'm 42, they became my favorite band when I was 15, in the late 90s. I saw them in Nashville it was so good even tho they were aging lol. I did one of my research papers on the history of the band. There's been a few different lineups. They started in the 60s as a blues band in London. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are the founders and it's their band hence the name. Stevie and Lindsey were already making music together, they put out an album together as Buckingham Nicks. I don't remember how they met up but when they did it was magic 💜
He’s incredible. Mind blowing. Another guitarist who is so severely underrated is Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Take a deep dive into his catalog of work. On a sidenote, Mike Campbell toured with Fleetwood Mac when Lindsey Buckingham wasn’t a part of the group. Mike Campbell can play all of Lindsey’s riffs. Lindsey Buckingham also played with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on a song called Walls. Anyway, the history is deep and sometimes convoluted. But yet it all comes together beautifully in song.
Not one of their biggest hits, but has always been one of my favorites by them. :) And also John McVie's bass on this carries the bottom line so well I've used to test speakers with every time i set up or test a system.
Chet Atkins was an amazing "Picker". He had a number of people that he considered "True Pickers" like himself. One of those people is this Aussie that started playing drums before going to guitar. Check out Tommy Emmanuel. Try Mombasa. You will see that even though he uses a pick he is also using his nails to pick. You will also see that he was a drummer to begin with. He is also one of the nicest humans you would ever meet.

He did only once play a better Solo than he did here - it was the same song in Boston in 2010, the solo was 3 Minutes loinger then this one and he really played his heart out there. Maybe in some time you can react to this as well - it is on youtube too. The dance was a fantastic concert i have it on DVD and rewatch it every now and then. Every song was top notch, fantrastic.
Damn…..it’s been so long since I’ve heard this song…….and I love it. Yes….I had not thought of how much, during the instrumentals, they sound like Floyd! Buckingham is such an emotive player….like Gilmore. Criminally underrated…..I guess because in FM, the style of the songs did not lend themselves to long guitar solos where he could shine. If the songs were more guitar based in FM, Buckingham would be known to be in the top 20….consistently, IMO.

Fleeteood Mac got me through the era of teen angst and early adulthood. Their music always had a hit to get you through a breakup.

I was always drawn towards Lindsey Buckingham's stellar guitar work. He is in my viewpoint is the most underrated guitarist in Rock and Roll history. And Mich Fleetwood was always a demon on the drums.
If you have a "great guitar playing" playlist, and Big Love (live) isn't on it, then your playlist is incomplete (or very flawed). I'm most familiar with the version from The Dance.

I saw them live at the University of Illinois and sat within 20' of Lindsey at stage height. Best performance I had seen to date, better than Grand Funk at the Odeon Hammersmith in London in '75.
When Lindsey and Stevie joined FWM , Mick at first was concerned that Lindsey finger picked and told him he should probably use a pick...and Stevie stepped in immediately and was like "nooo".

My wife snd I saw them a few years back and Lindsay Buckingham stole the show. His guitar playing is so under rated.

Lindsey should be recognised as one of the best guitarrists among guys like Knopler, Clapton, Gilmour. If there's a guitarrists who is criminally underrated is LB. I whish I could Watch him one last time!
For me, Lindsey Buckingham is one of those great guitarists who make the guitar lyrically sing, but still rock. It’s hard to describe. There are some rock guitarists who are great-Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, but to me it sounds like rock. Others, - like Lindsey, Carlos Santana, Joe Walsh, make to guitar sing with them. Love it!
Brian May is also one who can make his guitar sing. In fact, he speaks of “her” (his guitar, The Red Special’s) “voice”, and purposely composed many of his solos to make his guitar “sing a verse” that was thematically related but not identical to the human vocalist’s verses.
He is insanely underrated. His skill is phenomenal .

Having seen them perform this live more than once, I could only hope to convey the level of emotion Buckingham’s performance elicited in me and I’m sure all in attendance. The final two times I saw them, the last in 2014, Lyndsey was clearly dominant and the star of band.
You NEED to go watch Big Love from the same concert. Just Lindsey doing things with 1 guitar that will melt your brain.
He is incredible. Seeing him live up close was a spiritual experience, along with Stevie Nicks and the rest of Fleetwood Mac.

It's a bit tough to find live performances, but Tin Soldier is a gem (guest starring the beautiful Miss PP Arnold). The Small Faces were *way* before their time and deserve *a lot* more fanfare than they've been given.

Have you done any of the songs by the original lineup of Fleetwood Mac, sometimes referred to as Peter Greene's Fleetwood Mac? They were a proper blues band then, this was prior to Christine, Stevie and Lindsey joining. Check out "Oh Well", "Albatross", "Black Magic Woman" and "Man of the World"!
I agree Lindsay is underated especially his great guitar skills. Also he had a great song Im in Trouble in 81, what a vibe worth checking out.

Dude as a musician you need to watch- “while my guitar gently weeps” cover by Yellow Matter Custard. I’m a drummer that’s been playing metal and prog for 20+ years and this stands out as one of the best guitar performances I’ve ever seen. It’s Paul Gilbert and Mike Portnoy so you know it’s insane.
This entire show is Fleetwood Mac at its greatest to me. Perfectly seasoned greatness. ❤❤❤❤now I have to go watch it again.

I love Fleetwood Mac so much! I'm 42, they became my favorite band when I was 15, in the late 90s. I saw them in Nashville it was so good even tho they were aging lol.
I did one of my research papers on the history of the band. There's been a few different lineups. They started in the 60s as a blues band in London. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are the founders and it's their band hence the name. Stevie and Lindsey were already making music together, they put out an album together as Buckingham Nicks. I don't remember how they met up but when they did it was magic 💜

Another guitarist who is so severely underrated is Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Take a deep dive into his catalog of work. On a sidenote, Mike Campbell toured with Fleetwood Mac when Lindsey Buckingham wasn’t a part of the group. Mike Campbell can play all of Lindsey’s riffs. Lindsey Buckingham also played with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on a song called Walls. Anyway, the history is deep and sometimes convoluted. But yet it all comes together beautifully in song.

Not one of their biggest hits, but has always been one of my favorites by them. :) And also John McVie's bass on this carries the bottom line so well I've used to test speakers with every time i set up or test a system.
This concert is available on DVD. Called the dance. But it you won't regret it
Chet Atkins was an amazing "Picker". He had a number of people that he considered "True Pickers" like himself. One of those people is this Aussie that started playing drums before going to guitar. Check out Tommy Emmanuel. Try Mombasa. You will see that even though he uses a pick he is also using his nails to pick. You will also see that he was a drummer to begin with. He is also one of the nicest humans you would ever meet.

He did only once play a better Solo than he did here - it was the same song in Boston in 2010, the solo was 3 Minutes loinger then this one and he really played his heart out there. Maybe in some time you can react to this as well - it is on youtube too. The dance was a fantastic concert i have it on DVD and rewatch it every now and then. Every song was top notch, fantrastic.

Damn…..it’s been so long since I’ve heard this song…….and I love it. Yes….I had not thought of how much, during the instrumentals, they sound like Floyd! Buckingham is such an emotive player….like Gilmore. Criminally underrated…..I guess because in FM, the style of the songs did not lend themselves to long guitar solos where he could shine. If the songs were more guitar based in FM, Buckingham would be known to be in the top 20….consistently, IMO.

The best version of this song by far is the 'Cleveland, Ohio 1980' live version. Lindsey's solo on that performance is on another level.
