    Rumors released in 1977 and over 40 million albums sold worldwide. All while there were several breakups going on in the band. This is a group of highly talented people individually, but exploded collectively with hit after hit. You simply must do this entire album. Many of the band members have continued making music for 50 years. But we lost Christine McVie recently. RIP.
    This band is indeed one of the most popular in US and many other countries!

    Hey guys thats not a banjo , its a dobro guitar. Lindsey Buckingham is a very unique guitar player. He uses a few alternate tunings and has a sort of unorthadox picking approach at times. Also , you've probably heard Fleetwood Mac before just didn't know it was them. Their music has been used in commercials & tv , not sure about movies.

    Fleetwood Mac are a British/American rock band formed in London in 1967. Their album "Rumours" (1977) has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums in history. All the songs on it are great. "Go Your Own Way", "Dreams", "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun". "Second Hand News", "Gold Dust Woman" etc. Other songs from other albums are "Over My Head", "Say You Love Me", "Rhiannon", "Landslide", "Tusk", "Think About Me", "Sara", "Hold Me", "Love In Store", "Gypsy", "Oh Diane" etc. Sadly Christine McVie passed away last year.

    Lot's of variety in Fleetwood Mac to check out! Particularly since three members take turns as lead vocalist and there was a completely different blues version of the band early in their career. Also, this album was made while everyone in the band was going through a break up...in most cases, with each other! The guitarist and one of the singers were breaking up and the bassist and Keyboardist were going through a divorce. They were all writing songs directed at each other! It's an emotionally charged album.

    Back story on this band is crucial. Two couples (guitarist Lindsey Buckingham-singer Stevie Nicks, bassist John McVie-singer/keyboards Christine McVie) were breaking up when this record was made.

    Formed in the 60s by drummer MICK FLEETWOOD, (Fleetwood Mick) the group went through several guitar changes, style, and personnel. In 1975, Mick heard a tape by Buckingham/Nicks and really liked the guitar. Linsey Buckingham happened to be there in the studio. Mick asked him to join the group, and Linsey said "as long as my girlfriend Stevie (Nicks, the queen of rock and roll). After discussions with Christine and John McVeigh (keys and bass) they gave it a try. One of rocks most talented and mystical bands.

      The style you are looking for is "Desert Rock". Filled with traces of Spanish style guitar, Texas blues, flamenco, and mariachi. The Doors and the Eagles also did some "Desert Rock" songs, indicative of the southern California, Sound City sound. Tom Petty, and the Eagles also recorded there, all using a unique sounding Neve console in the booth.

    Fleetwood Mac was founded by guitarists and vocalists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer and drummer Mick Fleetwood. Bob Brunning was hired as a temporary bass guitarist before John McVie joined the line-up in time for their eponymous debut album. Danny Kirwan joined as a third guitarist and vocalist in 1968. Keyboardist and vocalist Christine Perfect, who contributed as a session musician starting with the band's second album, married McVie and joined Fleetwood Mac as a full member in 1970, becoming known as Christine McVie. Appreciate and enjoy your thoughtful reaction.
    I have one suggestion: Listen to each song from start to finish, because otherwise you dampen for yourselves the musical and emotional impact of critical transitions. To enjoy and appreciate a song completely, you must listen to it from start to finish. Doing so will add value to you already thoughtful reactions.
    This song was the first conceived and the last finished for the band's iconic album Rumours, which was created and produced at a time when all members of the band were going through break-ups: Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, the marriage of John and Christine McVie, and Mick Fleetwood’s marriage to Jenny Boyd. Christine McVie started the composition, others added elements, but the song wasn't unified and recorded until John McVie riffed that incredible baseline that appears three minutes into The Chain. While each band member contributed elements of music, Stevie Nicks wrote the lyrics herself, and along with the music, creates a song that shows the tug of war that occurs as couples fall apart.

    Just found your channel. An important point to note with Fleetwood Mac is that they went through a radical change in their line up after the departure of Peter Green. The earlier line up was far more blues orientated which I preferred but then I'm of an older generation. That is not to say it was necessarily better or worse and Mac was a consistently good band throughout its existence..

  • @oscarhalpert5967
    @oscarhalpert5967 Рік тому

    Rock music evolved from the early 1950s to the early-mid-70s and began to incorporate different musical genres. If you're under 40, it might be hard to understand how rock music was still new enough that bands experimented with various musical styles. You don't hear that as much today. So, in the case of Fleetwood Mac, which started out as more of a blues rock band, they morphed into a band that incorporated a lot more folk or country. Bands changed their styles. Look at The Beatles and compare their pre-1965 albums with anything after late 1966-67. They didn't change because the label said to. They changed because they wanted to go in a different direction. That became much harder to do later because labels wanted bands to fit into specific niches - the ones they decided would be marketable. You didn't get a promotional budget if your band didn't fit into one of those niches.

    As you've learned by the time I post this, this is indeed somewhat atypical of The Mac. Unusual structure, relatively little melody. In short, Fleetwood Mac is a long running band, and began as a British blues band in the 60s, named after drummer Mick Fleetwood and Bassist John McVie. After many successful permutations, remaining members Mick and John, and John's wife Christine, took LA duo (Lindsey) Buckingham (Stevie) Nicks into the band, and made history in the 70s. Lots and lots of great stuff.

Especially when it comes to classic rock as there are the super groups and best known bands which you seem to be working your way through. I think you've done the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and now Fleetwood Mac. I am not sure if you've done the Eagles, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Who or Queen. There is a deep, deep well of rock music. SO much to dive into with Fleetwood Mac. Especially on this Rumours album. But one of my favourites by FM is *Rhiannon.* Sung by the lovely Stevie Nicks (she did backing vocals on The Chain). Highly recommend their performance of Rhiannon they did on The Midnight Special. It features so much more than the studio version does (it’s like 2 minutes longer). One of the best live rock performances of all-time imo.

    This album is regarded as one of the greatest perfect albums in rock music. There's just something about rumors., it just kills on every song but each in its own way. And by the way that's not a banjo but a mandolin, but yeah that definitely adds a tiny bit of a Bluegrass or hillbilly element to it, and both of those are also related to country music ultimately. But they were their own sound, to me it's just 70s rock but it's like the best of it.
    But seriously, you could wrecked every single song on this album and I don't know if you ever do albums but you could do this one song by song or sometimes people will put two of them together when they go through an album. But this is such an iconic and historic album. It's great to start at the beginning and just experience it all the way to the end, both sides of the record. I can't remember but I think this song might start off side B of the record. It's a fan-favorite but then every song on this album is a fan favorite.

  • @blabla48076
    @blabla48076 Рік тому +8

    Lindsey Buckingham, the band's guitarist, is one of the most famous fingerpickers in rock music. Which brings me to another band that you should check out: Dire Straits, fronted by guitar virtuoso Mark Knopfler (also a fingerpicker). Some suggestions would be "Sultans of Swing", "Telegraph Road", "Tunnel of Love", and "Brothers in Arms". Make sure you check out the full versions of these songs! Also, the first three got brilliant live renditions from the album "Alchemy: Dire Straits Live", and the band performed a moving version of the latter at a tribute concert for Nelson Mandela. They also scored other hits, though, such as "Money for Nothing" (the ground-breaking music video is worth checking out, and the song has a magnificent guitar riff) and "Walk of Life".

    In my opinion, The Chain is their love of music and the hard work they did to get them so far. It binds them together through all of their hardships and pain. Every member is credited for writing it.

    Formed by Peter Greene in 1967 as a Blues Band. Peter Greene was a fantastic Blues Guitarist and writer. He left in 71. The band’s founder members John McVie ( base guitar) and Mick Fleetwood ( drummer) have had various members in the band. Christine McVie ( maiden name Prefect) had been in and out of the group. She was songwriter and keyboards and joined the band permanently at the beginning of the 70’s. Married and divorced John McVie. Then around 1973 two Americans Lindsey Buckingham ( Lead Guitarist and vocals) and Stevie Nicks (Lead Vocals and unlimited talent for songwriting) joined the group. They produced a self titled album which was brilliant. However it was followed by the album Rumours, every track is an absolute platinum star. The on off real life relationship between Buckingham and Nicks is reflected in the songs and when they where at their worst that’s when Stevie wrote her best. With only Christine being the Peacemaker. Unfortunately Christine died a few months ago and Lindsey, one of the greatest Guitarists left the band.

Also, Lindsey is a vastly underrated guitarist, and Mick Fleetwood is the drummer, but he hardly gets any mention.
