That's a good idea to clean the throttle system. Usually with older vehicles such as the F150 and/or Expeditions the EGR valve doesn't open all the way to allow fuel in. Chances are it'll run for a while then the code will possibly come up again. I simply replaced the valve itself and the control switch. One thing about the larger vehicles with vacuums and solenoids,,, you'll almost end up replacing the whole system due to the age of the vehicle.
Your daughter is adorable. Just finished intake gasket job trying to fix high LTFT (vac leak). There are NO vac leaks anywhere and now have the P0401 code along with high LTFT numbers. When I did have the manifold off, everything was coated with gunky oily shtuff. Also, while the engine idles, I can here a hiss that is no where to be found. Going outside to replace the EGR and then the solenoids if that doesn't do the trick. Little story behind my truck. It is a cheap CList junker that has me addicted to getting it back to perfect. No shop is going to touch this truck. Want to do it all by myself no matter how long it takes.
@@iamlazarow3526 YES....took my time and made sure all the Dorman gaskets were replaced clean & easy. She runs perfect with great fuel trim #'s. NOW I'm working on steering wheel play/slop.
@@iamlazarow3526 The intake gaskets & water cross over gaskets. With the Dorman intake off, I turned it upside down and filled it with water to see if it had a crack or leaked. Check to make sure it wasn't suck'n air that way. That vac leak was driving me mad I tell ya and it was going to get fix'd !

I appreciate you making a video to try and help… however brake cleaner is too harsh for the throttle body. Use throttle body cleaner that is designed to protect the sensors and rubber or plastic apparatus that may be connected to the throttlebody assembly. thanks!

I started getting that Code after SeaFoam shocking my 99 F150... the shock worked for Bank Lean code, and Manufacturer Control... I'm on my next fill up... So It maybe needed to burn off.

No codes yet; only an indication that the Evap system has a problem. Misplaced my good scanner that gives me the Mode 6 info. Thanks for making this video - very helpful.

My engine light cones on at random moments, but the PO401 is the only code I get. It must need a cleaning. I'm the second owner of my truck. The previous owner, a old man in his late 70s, took good care of it, but never replaced parts. I've already had to replace the waterpump. I can't imagine this being more difficult than that.
It wasn’t very difficult probably took an hour or two. However I will say that after I had solved that problem I ended up eventually getting another code P1406 DPFE downstream hose off. I checked the two hoses that ran to my egr and they were gummed up severely. That completely solved my issue. No problems at all after that. I have a video on that as well. I would check those two hoses. Most likely they are gummed up. Engine code P1406 fixed!!! Is the title.

Check your DPFE hoses. Mine were completely clogged with emission gunk at first cleaning the throttle body worked. The I got another engine code P1406 (down stream hose off). I replaced the two hoses to the EGR and fixed the problem.

I had to end up changing my DPFE hoses that go to the egr valve. At first this worked however I ended up getting a different code which told me I either had a downstream hose disconnected or clogged. After checking I realized the hoses were completely clogged with emissions gunk. I did another video on that as well you could check out. It may be the problem your having as well.

That particular code never came back however I ended up getting another code which was P1406 (downstream hose off) In which I had to replace the downstream hose. There were actually two hoses that are side by side that needed replaced. They were completely blocked by emissions crud that was preventing flow big time. I have a video on how to replace those as well if you would like to check that out also. I would check those hoses also because my downstream hose was completely blocked. That totally fixed that code and I haven’t had an issue with it since. Replacement hoses were probably 20-30 bucks at most if I remember correctly. Might have been less than $20

That hiss turned out to be a vacuum leak on my F150. Had to replace the head as they are famous for getting warped.

It would idle ok as well and would slightly stumble a little on take off and seemed to stumble while driving just a little.
@GR ABS light is likely a sensor, my 99, has been on for 85k miles, my po401code caused zero drivability issues , just a SES light

You don't need to replace the gaskets unless you rip them.
9.5 times out of 10...its your dpfe sensor.

Just did that and replaced a cracked exhaust on a 3.8. Suckers running better now but it passed smog with the crack.. .. it's cursed
