That first part of only top 10% basically getting to 1K hits home. Its been a long journey to get where I am at, but knowing I am doing well and growing in such a large community makes me feel better.
I currently put in about 40-60 hours per week to UA-cam. I started in 2007 and until 2011 I was putting in about 20-30 hours per week around my full-time job and part-time work & was initially posting daily, then multiple times per day, which with how UA-cam worked back then & the lower number of channels people subscribed to many I got complaints from viewers about being all they saw in their feed, so I went back to daily, then as other commitments grew I reduced to about 20 hours per week, then stopped completely in 2011 due to being sick and tired of doing all this for free & attacks & abuse being daily. Then in 2015 I was made redundant, needed to make an income right away, so one thing I started focusing on was growing UA-cam. I was putting in about 40 hours per week to UA-cam & about 40 hours per week into creating eCourses. In months my eCourses income went from about £100 per month to about £500 per month (then about £1500 per month by a year later) & in about 6 months I got my UA-cam channel which I hadn't really done anything with for about 4 years to monetisation. I had previously been monetised & can't remember why I wasn't anymore. It might have been due to not posting for so long that I was no longer getting many views & only getting a few new subscribers per month. From being made redundant for about a year I was posting 5 videos per week but this took so long & wasn't maintainable but I wanted to kick-start my channel. The next year I dropped to 3 videos per week & a year after that, settled largely into a video per week. My first years income monetised was £5-£60 per month, year two monetised was £100-£200 per month, year three was ££400-£600 per month, year four was about £800-£1200, year five was about £1500-£2000 per month. Since then it's been fairly stable but fluctuating more from about £1000-£2500 per month and late 2020 through to mid 2022 were difficult years where suddenly views & rates of new subscribers tanked. For example on SocialBlade in winter 2019 it said I should pass 100k subs by about mid 2020, yet it ended up talking until late 2022. The more my channel struggled the more time I put in to trying to learn why & what I could do about it. So during this time I was making less income on UA-cam than I had been making but putting in more hours than ever, often working on my channel most days from about 7am to 2am with a couple of breaks for food. In 2018 due to a health emergency of a relative for a big part of the year I put almost no weekly hours into UA-cam, but has created & scheduled a years worth of weekly videos at the end of the previous year just to see if it was possible & it turned out to be very helpful when for months I was visiting a hospital & spending time in the hospital visiting, then trying to be helpful around this etc. Now I put in full-time hours to UA-cam, about 40-60 hours per week most weeks. Obviously I'm sharing this to show my UA-cam journey & how it is a marathon not a sprint. I think of myself as an average person with average skills doing average. I'm not engaging, I'm not good at being charismatic, I'm not skilled as a graphic designer for thumbnails, copywriter for titles & descriptions, or skilled at creating incredible hooks that engage the audience, or as a video editor etc, and think it's creators have to learn & continually improve in all these areas. What I am though is willing to learn & study (watching videos by channels like VidIQ & taking notes etc) and to put in what time I can & take it seriously with the goal of this being something I want y make a living from & then being persistent, not giving up. I accept it is a very slow & challenging road & a very long journey and I know along the way, I've seen channels appear & within a few months they are getting more views per video than me & within a year they have more subscribers than me. I've been disheartened by this because I think it is hard not to compare, but try to learn what perhaps led to their rapid growth. Some of these channels, despite doing so well, have still quit UA-cam & suddenly stopped posting, often running out of steam with posting weekly etc. I've often thought about how UA-cam sends to favour new channels, channels which seem to do no different to me, yet they are being promoted & taking off, yet I know as a smaller channel I used to think the exact opposite, that what chance is there for smaller channels when UA-cam mainly just promotes the big channels, so I now feel both positions are wrong & just a perception of what is standing out to you from your perspective in that moment. I believe UA-cam is hard work for most people, but as others have said, it is about working at making improvements and learning all the time, and never giving up...
At 187 subs at time of writing and it is difficult, but after over 6 month on my channel I have learned to compare with myself 4 videos ago... and I use around 22 hours a week on it.
Putting 30h per week and yeah I agree that the growing is hard, is so hard to focus on quality videos when you just want to post often 😅 a great video!
Although it is true that UA-cam is hard, but there are still a lot of opportunities. You should not be comparing yourself with someone else. It is possible that you stand out from the crowd because of your content and your way of presentation. I have seen many channels in the the past year who has grown from few hundreds subscribers to tens of thousands in a few months
Hardly any famous Youtubrr stands out of the crowd anymore though. They all copy the same exact script, body language, key words, editing format, music, etc. It's almost like you can't even get famous without being exactly like everyone else because people expect it now.
@@qspeaksfacts2003 hehe I guess so! Though luckily, we treat all such subscriber numbers as a bonus and just a bi-product of creating and having memorable experiences 🙏
@@MRB0US3RI’m on both sides.. shorts are good for easy subs but shorts content gives lots of subs but less connected ones. But they are still subs so I’m not on either side
My channel has been around for over a decade at this point (late 2012) and I'm still not even at 500 subscribers lol. Don't be hard on yourselves, especially if you upload incredibly inconsistently like I have for 99% of my channel's existence. You'll grow eventually, even if it is slowly. My channel has grown more in the last 7.5 months than in the previous 10-ish years. My shorts do well, but I still have to figure out long-form content and that's okay. I'm busy with exams and stuff so obviously I won't have the time to be making loads of 10+ minute videos that people actually want to watch. Make what you enjoy. Don't let it take up all of your time. Take a break when you need it. Be proud of how far you've come, regardless of how long it took to get here.
I feel like the momentum build as you post consistently. I took me 2 plus months to get to 100 subs, but it looks like it will be the next hundred in about 1 month
I watched a couple of your videos and although the content is something some video players would watch, I don't see a script nor hear any audio voice-over commentary from you, that you add to your videos. (correct me if I am wrong). If you added an interesting voice over to the video to explain the game or react to it, you may get a lot more views. Plus strong titles. I am just trying to help with suggestions.
@@adrianvanleeuwen thank you i appreciate the feedback, it is something I will look into it’s also something no one doing similar videos to mine is doing
I work on UA-cam content about 20 hours a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It all depends on how long it takes me to edit my videos. In 16 months I've reached 343 subs, with over half of them being from just this year. It's nice to see that if we're getting 100+ views in a video that we're in the top 1%. Just don't give up, peeps! We can do this. :)
I have had the mindset of leaning as much as possible, but I have fallen subject to comparing myself to other creators. It can be a bit hard for me sense I have friends that are creators with careers on youtube, and though they have been doing this for waaayyy longer than I have I still compare myself to them a bit. It definatilly is useful to have friends that have experience on youtube though, I have leaned so much from them and I'm thankful they have allowed me to hang out with them on videos and such. (Protip: if you want to make good youtube friends you can connect with well find someone who is in your niche and participate in their community as much as possible. If you want them to be in your video make sure you have a good idea and you respect their time. Note that some creators are more open to collabs than others.)
this made me feel real good, im 15 months old and have 12k subs... that makes me one of the 2 percent. it wasnt hard for me at all. i understand how it could be hard for most.... so i cheat, i don't plan anything and its all improved, i make 49 videos a day when i work and its easy but its because i made it easy. its not possible for all content but if you can improvise and don't need to story board or write or plan anything it sure helps :)
Congrats on 12k!! ...did you say, 49 vids a day? Can you share more about your methods? (I know you mentioned you don't plan, so do you upload when you can, instead of scheduling?)
In addition to 1:55 I'd also say I've had to learn how to be an audio engineer, stage lighting technician. It's crazy how many different people's jobs you have to learn to be able to put this together by yourself. Being a UA-camr as a full production requires so much effort, I knew NONE of these things before starting UA-cam, Had no clue how to even set up a green screen 😅 It's quite funny knowing that and then finding people want to actually hire you to work on their stuff 😂
"you can't fail if you don't quit" YES. it takes time to find a rhythm for creating, fitting it around our lives. true. Awesome video, compassionately put thought out and put together. 👍👍 i am overcoming a few hurdles - and working on myself and my channel in the background - one of my "issue" to overcome would be - how to figure out what to use my community tab for - as i don't post for the sake of posting, and i am not sure how community posts turn up, as channels i follow, such as yourself mention in vids they did a poll or whatever - and i'm like, i never see thee things! am i supposed to go to your channel and find it myself? so then i am left wondering this about my community tab. how does the reach work? got any words of wisdom about this for me, cos its hard to figure out
Thanks for being encouraging, let's keep going! The important is to enjoy what we do and in the process we will come up with new ideas to try out. There is always a bit of pay off awaiting us.
Started creating brand new content for this channel a month ago. 95 subscribers right now and hoping that number begins to grow as a community. Feeling very hopeful.
depending how much I am motivated to work on content each week, I could spend 8-10 hours a week or 30-40 hours a week. Some advice I can give is to try your best not to get demotivated when your videos are underperforming. I've had like five 9/10 and 10/10s in a row, but I took a few days to reflect on it and realized just how much better those videos were doing compared to how many views I would get 6 months ago. Just keep up the grind, keep learning and improving your content the best you can, and eventually, you will see success
Wow. I enjoyed this different perspective of my channel. I spend about 20 hours a week or more on my channel. Plus I work about 60 to 70 hours a week in the operating room.
It's really tough to not get caught up in the numbers while simultaneously trying to analyse things that you can aim to do better in with each video. I'm very fresh here. Video number 4 is in the planning stage - i like to script and plan out a few days before i shoot so i can try and post around the same time each week. Combined with learning and researching, i reckon i'm spending nearly 15 - 20 hours a week here. It's incredibly nice to see the numbers broken down here. And the community of small creators on here is incredibly supportive to each other.
This is so motivational for content creators. It's a good perspective on things and why to keep on going. Wishing everyone who reads this great success! 😍
I still feel like I havent been working hard enough 😅 this video is a good refresher to allow myself to think back how much time I did put into this and there is results as long as you don't lose the mindset of being able to learn and don't be afraid to try new things.
Knowing that I'm 3/4s away from my sub goal (and a few hundred watch hrs away from the watch time monetization goal) It gives me something to look forward to.
I am naturally extremely hard on myself and have always been. I currently have 7.77k subs but feel inadequate and seldom celebrate any milestones or achievements because i constantly compare myself to others. This video presents a great standard I should try and live by going forward while continuing to improve and stay consistent.
i can't measure how long i put into my channel per week, but per video i generally get 5-10 hours of footage and spend anywhere from 10-20 hours editing
Man I feel you, you spend all this time editing and recording only to get, what, under 100 views? But hey it’s all worth it the moment your video passes that, the moment you get your first positive comment, the moment you reach your first subscriber goal even though you got all your subs from shorts(cough cough, not me, cough cough). But seriously, if you love what you do keep going! It maybe be sad that the good moments can’t last forever, but there will always be something new!
Im ticking up to the 100 subs mark. I'm seeing steady growth which really helps to keep me motivated. It is always a bit disheartening when a video performs worse than expected, but sometimes the algorithm just takes longer to find who to show it to. Every video I get a bit better at making them, so hopefully one day i'll make those larger milestones
I just started posting a few weeks ago. I'm in it full time! I put in my full day and then some, 12 to 14 hours a day on average. Go BIG or go home!! 3 weeks in and at 77 awesome people to enjoy this adventure with and over 22k views!! Thanks for watching everyone!! So much more on the way!!
i've been doing youtube for 5 months now and i already thought about giving up because i stopped gettings subs, that video actually motivated me, thanks!

This video explains exactly how I started my content creator journey, and how I continue to do this each day. April 2022 was the month where I started my onboarding process with training, but the following May was the first month I actually started applying what I had learned to content creation. Of course I have big goals, but breaking it down into smaller milestones helps immensely. I also make a point to remember that every new subscriber is another actual person that has found value in my videos enough that they have said they want to see more. It's humbling, and encouraging. It's become a real passion project for me.

Thanks for the encouragement. Preciate it.
Absolutely! There are many opportunities, gotta keep going 💪
Hardly any famous Youtubrr stands out of the crowd anymore though.
They all copy the same exact script, body language, key words, editing format, music, etc. It's almost like you can't even get famous without being exactly like everyone else because people expect it now.
We've passed 500 subscribers recently and we're enjoying the journey and have so much fun together
Once u pass 500 u know u can't turn back you're almost there
@@qspeaksfacts2003 hehe I guess so! Though luckily, we treat all such subscriber numbers as a bonus and just a bi-product of creating and having memorable experiences 🙏

I put in 7 hours a week! 😢
I put in 7 days a week after work 😅
554 subs and moving in the right direction
You got this! 💪
I watched alot of GYYC channels and your channel is probably the BEST UA-cam Channel! Keep going!
UA-cam is hard indeed, I have over 50 vids but it’s difficult to get over 60 views on normal vids
Keep going ! ✌️✌️✌️
Thank you 🙏
I watched a couple of your videos and although the content is something some video players would watch, I don't see a script nor hear any audio voice-over commentary from you, that you add to your videos.
Keep at it! I’m on 554, grinding at it everyday
I love the sims! You got a sub from me :)
@@TheMegChan thank you so much!
Absolutely!
You, my good sir, just got a new subscriber. Good day to you.
I’ll be a part of that 2% someday soon 💪🏻
I must have watched this 100 times it really touched me and made me think I'm doing alright. Just give it time, and l will get there
You can’t fail if you don’t quit ! Those 4000 hours watch time feels like a war zone 😢
It is hard... Check out this video, might be helpful!
ua-cam.com/video/n9vdSZO0wfI/v-deo.html
I hit 3000 subscriber only in 4 months. And i only uploaded less than 20 videos. I am doing it guys!
this made me feel real good, im 15 months old and have 12k subs... that makes me one of the 2 percent. it wasnt hard for me at all. i understand how it could be hard for most.... so i cheat, i don't plan anything and its all improved, i make 49 videos a day when i work and its easy but its because i made it easy. its not possible for all content but if you can improvise and don't need to story board or write or plan anything it sure helps :)
Being a UA-camr as a full production requires so much effort, I knew NONE of these things before starting UA-cam, Had no clue how to even set up a green screen 😅
It's quite funny knowing that and then finding people want to actually hire you to work on their stuff 😂
If you’re reading this, your UA-cam channel will grow, keep grinding and stay focused!
Wow! Made me realised how lucky I am with my channel. Thanks Rob.
"you can't fail if you don't quit" YES. it takes time to find a rhythm for creating, fitting it around our lives. true. Awesome video, compassionately put thought out and put together. 👍👍
i am overcoming a few hurdles - and working on myself and my channel in the background - one of my "issue" to overcome would be -
how to figure out what to use my community tab for - as i don't post for the sake of posting, and i am not sure how community posts turn up, as channels i follow, such as yourself mention in vids they did a poll or whatever - and i'm like, i never see thee things! am i supposed to go to your channel and find it myself? so then i am left wondering this about my community tab. how does the reach work?
got any words of wisdom about this for me, cos its hard to figure out
Thanks for being encouraging, let's keep going! The important is to enjoy what we do and in the process we will come up with new ideas to try out. There is always a bit of pay off awaiting us.
If you are reading this, don't give up! The hard work will all pay off!
Thanks mate
Beautiful. Hard not to be inspired and motivated after this. Lovely job as always, Rob.
Yes agree, this one hit differently!
We are always here to support you guys😊

I´m still struggling to grow my channel! Implementing the advices and uploading a lot helped me so far a lot. Subscribed!
Nice video mate as Always💪🏽
This is so motivational for content creators. It's a good perspective on things and why to keep on going. Wishing everyone who reads this great success! 😍
If you're a small creator, keep uploading and improving, you'll get there soon too, just keep going if this is your passion you'll never get tired.
The struggle is real to us upcomings but Insha'Allah 🙏 we shall overcome
Must be about 15-20 hours spent on my channel a week. Maybe more if I count community management! This video has given me a good fresh perspective!
Just reached the 1k subscribers, it took me 26 months and over 250 videos.
Unfortunately watch time is nowhere near monetisation
I just started posting a few weeks ago. I'm in it full time! I put in my full day and then some, 12 to 14 hours a day on average. Go BIG or go home!! 3 weeks in and at 77 awesome people to enjoy this adventure with and over 22k views!! Thanks for watching everyone!! So much more on the way!!
16K in 3 Months‼️🔥 I just kept being consistent‼️ it works i promise..🙏🏻 Keep going.

it's a good quote but not by VIdIQ itself, though :=)

That's rad! I'm also from a videography/film background. But no amount of film school or corporate work could've prepared me for the beast that is UA-cam. 😅😜
@@tunnel.vision.x yeah exactly that man ha ha. I think being self employed over the last 10 years has helped a bit but it’s a proper grind but I’m loving every second of it. Even if that sub count goes up one a day it’s gives motivation
@@aggymatt the thing that kills me so far is watching it go up one or two and being excited and then watching it drop down. Like any creative pursuit, gotta hustle.
I thought i wasnt growing fast enough, but from this i realized i was doing alright. 550 subs in about a month
Agree 100%
You got this! Keep growing! 💪💪💪
I treat UA-cam like A business! Once you do that success will roll your way. Follow your passion
