I made a boo boo. I titled this video incorrectly (it was copied and pasted from my previous video) which means this video missed the initial push by UA-cam for a newly launched video! It is fixed now but.. oh well 🏃
We’d never know - this can still blow-up. I just started binge watching your videos/channel - I like your Philosophy on YT participation- not so stressful- more realistic but not complacent.
I accidentally did once on one of mine... i made the mistake of uploading it and publishing it on schedule, while i was asleep... so i didnt see until the next day after work... I was so tempted to take it down and reupload it. Thanks for the video and for talking about the subject of youtube/influencer... There's a lot of different views out there, but yours seemed very nuanced. Thanks!
Wowed that's awesome 👌 experience with video producer..you know lighting you know how to land clients, editing, writing videos is a skill mindset and the demand waits you
I'm a small UA-camr and I enjoy posting videos, I learned very early in my journey to not chase the numbers but to focus on the main reason why I'm creating content.
Same here and it isn't an easy ride. Started a month ago and spent every single minute of my free time creating content. Early mornings and late nights too.Very tiring if you have a full time job but I promised to myself and my few subscribers that I'm going to upload regularly so I stick to it . Hopefully I manage to get off from the ground by end of the year.😅 Good luck for every small or start up UA-cam out there!!
i have uploaded 4000 videos in 4 years. And some of the videos now are earnings. I never expect it. I just make it then because I enjoyed editing a lot. :)
Man that’s awesome! I needed this. I was so discouraged because I barely have any subs and lost one this morning. Not sure why either! Just start a couple weeks ago.
@@CarTrims if this is the case you lost one then I just subscribed and here you are its gained back again:) I know tbh the feeling and I recently started(1moth ago) and I put so much effort even though I've posted 5vids you've no idea how much time and hard work it costed me like tell me how it can externally to look as if it doesn't take sm time yet in reality costs u a crazy amount of hours😭 Keep it up and don't give up❤
I was so focused on getting my channel more subscribers and views, that I forgot why I started this channel in the first place, thanks for reminding me!
I started my channel few months ago and it's amazing how it grew in few months. I say start a UA-cam channel if you have something valuable to share to the world. Eventually UA-cam will see the consistent message you are putting out there and once people will start noticing that it's a value to them, it will be distributed more. I wish everyone success, don't give up, be yourself, be authentic and share value 😊
Exactly. I'm still learning with my channel and have many bad videos, but I love gardening and sharing what I do with people. Making videos is truly fun for me and I can't wait to see my growth as a UA-camr in a few years.
You gotta have a strong "Why". Because I can't tell you how many times I've asked myself why I'm even doing this. I want the time freedom and want to live on my own terms. UA-cam is the way I want to do it even though it's brutal at times. Maybe I could do it another way too. Who knows
Feeling disheartened so I am leaving this comment here so that after some hours, days, weeks, months or years when someone likes or comment on it, you will be reminded that you didn’t give up ❤️ Don’t give up @Kevin or anyone else reading this!
Great story, and I am happy to see you are satisfied. Being a UA-camr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of help from Fame -ster of course) will always pay off at the end.
That's not a great strategy for a beginner. Because no one knows what anyone wants to see, you'll do that only to reap nothing in the end but frustration when things go side way. One should do what they find enjoyable and use that as a fuel to keep going, because then you won't worry about the numbers. Eventually, maybe the right people who enjoy the same thing might appear.
@@KevinChee I'm not her, but I have a similar impulse to create for UA-cam rather than Instagram or TikTok. My two cents are that Instagram has become just a huge marketplace, while TikTok lacks depth due to its short-form nature. From what I've seen, people are growing tired of superficial content and endless offers across all platforms. I am too. So, I believe there are still creators and viewers who want UA-cam to remain a place for learning, inspiration, storytelling, and sharing in-depth thoughts in a more authentic way, not just another business-driven platform.
I upload 250 videos to promote another channel in one hour. These channels usually gain 15-25K subscribers in the first month. Know your audience's sleep times; that's all. 17 Channels 8 platforms.
I have a small UA-cam channel and you are so true. This UA-cam stuff isn't for the weak. I get so frustrated, but I do it because it's very therapeutic. But there's days where I want to throw it all away because it's seems like im going down a endless road.
It does have that affect on you. Often I find myself caring too much about subs and views even though my main goal has always been revenue. The road of subs-and-views is a dangerous one but sadly, we're often reminded of it whenever we are on UA-cam.. by the audience, by YT analytics, by numbers. It sucks the energy right off me.
I agree with you. Achieving success on UA-cam is quite challenging. It often requires a bit of luck, especially when it comes to the algorithm promoting your videos
As a small channel owner, I needed to hear this. I just need not to be preoccupied with how many subscribers or views I have. I just need to keep doing what I am passionate about and hoping one day it will pay off. Thanks for your videos!👍
just like all of us, we have to remind ourselves constantly not to be affected by numbers. It is easier said than done considering views and subs are the first thing shown to us in YT analytics!
Consider this: Would you be happy to have 400 come to an auditorium to see you present your content? Probably. So why are you fixated on 40,000? Dial it back, enjoy what you have. Create for you.
I don’t like when people talk about whether or not starting a channel is “worth it”. Start a channel if you have something to say. If you want to share your life, your opinions, your travels, or you want to teach something. Start a channel be you want to. Not because you want to make money or become internet famous. If you have a passion for a topic, you will have all the motivation that you need, and whether you gain thousands of subscribers or not shouldn’t even matter. If you get monetized, great! If not, no big deal because that isn’t your goal.
Very truly but one thing I believe these kind of videos does lot of progress in there videos and life lot I remark them lot they get fame lot for example like Adam saleh vlogs too till small age he does UA-cam videos but see his videos start with start like you tell I believe and see in final just fame in final.money get from UA-cam just how beautiful people see your videos like the video it these things is main then I believe it goes viral too because UA-cam can't does hide these videos because lot of people like it very much and everyone should be getting their chances .
Now this is the way i am thinking about UA-cam, when i start making my channel i just want to make money but then i stop because i feel like it is impossible and exhausted and then one day i try to watch my video again then i realized i collecting memory and it's fun to see again. So now i just make it for myself and be happy to my channel.
I just wanna say that I think that your channel is very relatable. I came across your channel because you were commenting about Nate black ages ago but I stayed for your personality and brilliant knowledge. Keep up the good work.
The more reason you have to focus on revenue. If you truly enjoy making videos on UA-cam, you won't sacrifice your extra time for it, you will find a way to have time for it. And the 1 way I know of is if it can bring in substantial amount of revenue to replace your job, that's 40+ hours taken away from your job and into UA-cam. Just my 2 cents.
@@KevinChee yup I'm thinking if I didn't want to do this I would have quit by now! So I guess pain and sacrifice can be a litmus test of really wanting something. I've always been such a slacker but can't be now!
Great reminders for all new UA-camrs. I love making content but am well aware there’s a lot out there for viewers to choose from. Definitely treating it like a business (and I work on it nearly every day!)
Solid points in this video which I really appriciate having started the creator journey in January 2024 ! The key takeaway I got from this is be yourself as much as possible, and I think that is the key that a lot of viewers find when watching clips overall, just how authentic is this person with what they are telling me. Cheers.
So simple yet true-If you're going to dive into UA-cam, you gotta do it because, above all else, you can't *not* do it. You gotta be in it for the love of it. It's demanding but it's so fun and rewarding if you can keep a steady head along the journey. A twist on Friedrich Nietzsche quote, for the purpose of this discussion: *"If you have a strong enough 'why', you can endure almost any 'how.'"* 💭
love that quote. Most channel's why is 'to get more views and subs', which in some way means 'I want attention'. That is a bad why. Same goes for money too. 'I just want to make money and be rich' is not a strong why but 'I need to make money to continue doing what I love' is. Has similar meaning but completely different result. Focus on the result and figure out how to get there.
@@KevinChee absolutely - and most people don’t take the time to dig deeper into their “why”… a surface level response just ain’t gonna cut it over the long haul 💡
Crazy I thought the subscribers would be the toughest part. To my surprise the subscribers was easy. I'm finding the views are the tougher one forsure. Awesome video Kevin, Thanks for the input.
More views = more revenue = more sponsors. With the income, you can reinvest into your channel and potentially buy time to create more videos to get more views. It is a cycle. Subs though, seems like a way to validate our success but the number of subs we have doesn't translate to the views we will get, a mistake most new YT channels make.
I think your video's are too short. They need to be at least 15 minutes long to have the watchtime to make it interesting for the Algorithm to promote. For example that 20 minutes video got 5K views, but your 2 minute video's only a few views.
@@snapsna3567thanks for this advice. This might be happen to my channel. i just started my channel last June, So far I am getting some subs but worrying about the views because most of my videos are too short.
I do it because I love being creative and want to share my ideas and passions with others. When you stop chasing the sub count, you become less stressed and more natural. People can see the difference and are drawn to it. My first channel took years to reach 100 subs. This one is on track to double, if not triple, that in the same time frame. The only change I made was not caring as much about the subs and just focused on doing my thing. Great realistic advice thank you😎
Eh, see my dear. Achieving success on UA-cam is not by luck. When you see people making it big, and you pay close attention, you will notice that they are doing something people often overlook. For example, I went to your channel and the first thing I discovered was that your channel doesn't have a clear niche. You upload videos about different things all the time and this makes your channel disorganized. And when people don't understand the clear niche (or purpose) of a channel, they tend not to keep up with it. I'm not trying to bring you down, but I just want you to know that UA-cam is not by luck. There are so many things one needs to do that will give you success in UA-cam within a short time.
@destinyroland5677 I was basically saying that once I stopped focusing so hard on certain areas, positive things followed.☺️ Thanks for giving my channel a visit, and constructive criticism is always welcome💪 My niche is healing. Healing of the mind, body, and soul. Through mindset changes like my sit down vids, exercises like yoga or stretching, a healthy diet via homegrown food, having a hobby you enjoy, like reading, thrifting and last taking care of your personal hygiene. I mention it in most of my videos. We have accountability checks on my community page, and I have it all in my like description page to read. However, for potential subscribers who don't take the time to read channel pages like I do... I could do an intro to make it clearer... Thanks for getting me thinking. I'll pop over to yours and show some support.🫶
Thanks Kevin for the brutal honesty. Out of all of the how-to UA-cam videos I have seen, yours has been the most down to earth and no huff and fluff. Pure honest to goodness truth talk.
Thanks. I don't see myself as being credible tbh, my channel just doesn't reflect that. Hence, I'm sharing experiences all the time instead of claiming I 'found' the secret
I think its a good idea to start a UA-cam channel when you enjoy making the content your channel has to offer. I love animating cringe videos and if it takes off thats a plus. I see it more as an escape.
@@WalkTalkVent exactly! You don’t want your channel being a burden or something that takes time from your day. You want it to be where you can’t wait to make a new video.
@@itspaperboyyes I think that gives one an advantage if it naturally works with you rather than something you're artificially adding to your schedule. I wish you success!
I think everyone starts a UA-cam channel in the same way you mention, to offer value and everything else that comes with it is a plus. However, I do think that the talk about views and subs will creep into your mind slowly whether we like it or not, thanks to the audience and UA-cam putting so much focus on it. A strong mindset is a must to not let that hinder your goal.
@@KevinChee I agree but sometimes even the goal can be cloudy. You don't know how UA-cam can help your own business because you don't even have a business yet, but does that mean not to start? Sometimes you just wanna do things that make you feel better and greater. The goal is eventually to leverage and make money because of the time + effort you put in for sure imo.
I started my channel a year ago, the progress was amazing the learning curve just went up and up, youtube has a learning curve to learnt its secrets, and then the sky is the limit

This is impressive, two videos in one week in such high quality. With the community that you've been building, you're successful. You got this and keep up your work, Kevin! :) Plus your video is doing very well even you mentioned that you titled this video incorrectly.
Haha, yeah that's a funny mistake. The previous me would've taken this video down and re-upload but now, I just want to change and try things out to take my channel to the next level. UA-cam constantly changes and so should we. As long as the video is simple then I think it is worth experimenting.
Appreciate the advice man. Just started mine and I find myself totally obsessed with the whole thing. Straight to the point, I wanna express myself and sell my future books to my audience.
I am thankful to my 20 subscribers! The initial support means the world to us small channels. For all the creators out there - remember you've already taken the big step by starting. Keep creating, learning and growing
I upload 250 videos to promote another channel in one hour. These channels usually gain 15-25K subscribers in the first month. Know your audience's sleep times; that's all. 17 Channels 8 platforms.
Great information, thanks! It's refreshing to see the title isn't clickbait and that the advice inside is realistic for a big majority of us new creators.
I am on UA-cam solely to try to provide those who cannot get into nature and cannot be in nature to help them feel more connected to life. If I can do that then I have succeeded. It’s not about subscribers, although that wouldn’t hurt,it’s not about “likes” although I love them and views are motivating. But I’m not on UA-cam to get monetized. I usually avoid anything about growing on UA-cam as I find that tries to alter my natural spirit and passion. Thank you for your advice I found it extremely helpful.
This video really breaks down the reality of starting and maintaining a UA-cam channel, and I appreciate the no-sugarcoating approach. It’s so true that the obsession with subscriber counts can derail the entire purpose of creating content. Measuring success based on revenue or how a channel supports your business makes way more sense than just chasing numbers. The point about treating UA-cam as a business is spot on. Many people underestimate how much planning and strategy go into creating consistent content that aligns with their goals. Using UA-cam as a tool to funnel viewers into a broader business model, like the example of the 8,000-subscriber channel making six figures, is a refreshing way to look at success. I also liked the reminder that unsolicited advice and external noise can be a huge distraction. It’s easy to lose sight of your original goals when trying to please everyone or follow trends. Staying focused and building content around a clear vision is the key to avoiding burnout and staying motivated. Overall, this was a great reality check for anyone thinking about starting a channel. The emphasis on mindset and treating UA-cam as part of a bigger picture, not just a numbers game, is something more people need to hear.
If you ask me, unsolicited advice is probably the one that affects channels. I've tried several times listening to those advice, after all, we should always listen right? But 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work out and I am better off following my own instinct built on experience. The 2nd toughest one to follow is mindset. We have to constantly go against the numbers thrown at us by UA-cam analytics and those comments and trolls trying to bring our focus back to numbers as well. I've built up my mindset over the years but for those starting out, it can be daunting.
I always enjoy the no bs straightforward content that you make Kevin, it definitely feels way more realistic than what I’m used to seeing. In my space I also really like being helpful to others in a no bs way and I feel that building an honest relationship with my audience will help them make a good decision. Is my channel super profitable? No, I barely make the threshold sometimes lol. But since I’m always honest with my audience I feel that I’ll attract an honest sponsorship I’m into someday (or maybe I should look for it) and my audience will support me and the things I believe in. I could be wrong and I do get “less than ideal” comments from time to time but it comes with the territory I suppose.
I like being straightforward and realistic because I hate wasting time. Most people don't like it though, they prefer being sugar coated. Maybe that's why my channel don't grow as fast, I don't give people too much to hope for lol
This is one of my favorite video of yours to date. Very well said and presented. I agree and I’m thankful God blessed me to see these things before posting 241 videos :) But it’s always good, encouraging and helpful to be reminded by an expert trusted source! Thanks again, and congratulations on your own channel growth and success!
Interesting you should say that. I put the least thought in this video, every words came straight from the heart. Probably made it felt real? What's more interesting though is how this video got pushed more, might have something to do with the title & thumbnail.
@@KevinChee maybe. To me personally it wasn't as much about feel as it was about accurate information. But yes the feel was there too. Your title and thumbnail are an ideal example of one of the classic 'success formula' templates for UA-cam, so I'm not surprised :)
I enjoyed this talk so much. I started my channel in 2015 and it has changed my life. But could I have broken thru in 2024...I don't think so,...it's complicated!
A Big Thumbs up. I'm New here watching and enjoy hearing the different experiences that people share. I've joined your UA-cam channel/family. I look forward to checking out more of your videos. 😊😊😊Sharon in SC
Welcome. Glad my video made it to you somehow. I'm no UA-cam guru however I am interested in turning content creation/influencer into a viable business. Not gonna be easy as you can see in the journey of my videos but it will feel completely different once I reach there.
I'm thinking of starting a youtube channel. Your channel has helped me to have a more realistic expectation to how the channel will grow or be received. Thanks for the information.
Exactly. This is a great video. I actually equate UA-cam to the music business. You have some mainline entertainers and then there are indies. Now, of course, we all want to be the big mainliner but the reality is that they have crazy support and resources. The rest of us are playing in bars and clubs. We still make a pretty good living and we are doing for pure enjoyment. It is a good way of looking at it. Thanks for this video!
Yeah, it is similar so I see UA-cam as a business. Everyone has to start from the bottom, everyone has to start unknown, unless they have existing connections (e.g. the child of a celebrity, the partner of a big UA-cam channel) where they can have that added leverage.
I think you’re spot on. You blow the other channels in your niche out of the water due to your straight forward approach. You don’t use hyperbolic rhetoric that screams used car salesman. I value your videos and have gotten some motivation from them. I’m not one that would ever solicits any advice or paid coaching. It’s just not my personality. I create content for me. I do want it to turn into a business but that’s the hard part. Paying for individualized growth advice will never work for me. This is my journey no one else’s. But there are people out there that do value personalized advice and I wish you much success on that level. I look forward to your next video 👍🏻
I think everyone has their own way of achieving success. Some requires a mentor while some can work things out by themselves. It is just different personalities coming together. The best way is really to make full use of your own capabilities. We may all have the same goal (turning this into a business) but we may travel differently in our own unique ways.
Wow! This was amazing Kevin Chee! 😲I made you the no.1 (first one) on a playlist for my viewers, since I feel everyone needs to hear this, not just us with YT channels. I see you have a great number of comments-so I'm not sure I can get through them all, but I will sub for sure, to check out your channel in depth. Thanks so much for this TRUTH! Actually, 'Your other title" is what brought me here, but I just got through to (celebrate) my second year, and almost 200 videos. :-) ~ Not even sure you'll see my comment, but hope so! I so much appreciate what you shared here~~💞👋🙏💞
Thank you. Your comment appeared on my UA-cam Studio so yeap, UA-cam made me see your comment (fortunately). Thanks for putting me on your playlist, much appreciated! More videos to come for sure so stay tuned.
Kevin , glad I met your opinion on it! As I started my Very Venture China to connect the business worlds of China and Europe. Tired of all the negative news about China on UA-cam and Facebook, I moved there for my MBA to see the truth for myself. What I love most is seeing people become more curious and less biased. I decided to build a channel about breaking misconceptions and sharing real, firsthand experiences to foster better understanding, for business as well!
That’s weird because I seen your latest video and most people who leave comments like this are either in a niche that would never get insane views or just make unwatchable content. Your didn’t fall in either of those categories. I’m sure if I did some more digging I can help give you some legit pointers. If your posting frequently your channel should grown larger than it has already after 12 years.
@@KevinCheenot true. There is definitely secret methods that can be used without breaking UA-cam’s guidelines that will help grow your channel. Crazy to hear this from a channel that’s meant to help content creators grow.
Thanks so much for making this video, it's helped way more than any others have. I've watched many videos where they give you the main things you need to do to get views and traction. Well I've tried them all, and after 2 years, I've only just passed 50 subscribers with over 150 videos. 15 of which are friends and family. I spend time creating good thumbnails, categorising the video, add descriptions, chapters etc, try and make them engaging and I've tried different types of videos to try and get an audience. All with very little success. I did originally (and suppose mostly still do) upload videos that would entertain me. I do gameplay videos, and I happily watch them all. Over time though I started to want more recognition, and the number of subs did start to matter. I'm a bit less concerned about that now after watching your video though. What is extremely frustrating as a relatively small unknown channel is that nearly none of my videos show up on YT search, as they always show the more popular ones. The tip I dislike the most (from other people) is that I should look what people like and make those kind of videos, but I can't (and won't) make something that I'm not going to enjoy doing. My most successful video has reached over 1400 views though, so that's something good. I never considered treating YT like a business, but that does make a lot of sense, maybe I'm not cut out for that. I do enjoy making videos though and I enjoy editing more than I thought I would. I suppose a gaming channel is probably more challenging to get going as many, many, other people do the same. Massive thanks though for this honest video.
Thanks for the comment. Creating video you love is one thing but once you start to want the attention, that is when UA-cam gets you. You'll first crave for more subs, then more views then eventually, money. It never ends which is why you need to have a goal in mind in order to stop yourself from deviating. Based on your comment, I can't really tell what's in it for you other than recognition (I could be wrong). But if that is indeed the case then you'll need to work out why that recognition matters to you then find a different perspective towards attaining what you want. Again, this is just my opinion based on your comment so I could be 100% wrong. But if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to email me or DM me on IG. Just make sure you let me know your YT channel's name or I won't recognise you :).
UA-cam has its mood swings. Sometimes the algorithm just gets it right and recommends the video to the right audience, other times it just refuses to do so.
Yeah, I'm trying that too. It does help bring some sanity into the whole numbers game but it is failing in the engagement category if you ask me. Not a big issue though, can always counter that with long form
I started mine about 3 weeks ago, but I also have a podcast on Spotify and trying to get into TikTok. I have about 13 videos so far and only a few friends have subbed. The one thing that I have not found, is truth, honesty and integrity. That is what my UA-cam is about. How bad it was and the struggle. Its raw and real. No bouncing images or voice overs, intro music, lol yet, I want intro music haha. This video was on my feed and I can say from long hours of searching, this is by far the best advice I have seen. Its real, and genuine to me. Also, I love all the comments. I read them while listening to the UA-cam. If I make it and have more subs and it launches, I will dentate some of the earnings to help others if possible. It will prob never be my real job, I just enjoy talking and helping others. I hope some will learn from my mistakes. Keep your head up everybody and I hope we can have a solid community of newbies to help each other out.
Thanks. Great to know that this video appeared on your search. I think there are a lot of videos out there similar to mine but UA-cam just have a hard time pushing it to the right audience (probably still learning). Having said that, to have the right thumbnail and title is important as well. The right video may never reach the right audience if they don't click so everything kinda goes together. It is hard, we're told to focus on creating great content but without learning the marketing bits, we still wouldn't get the views.
@@KevinChee I 100% agree. The best thing for me is one, your honest and you have a good presence about your videos. With that, you comment section is very helpful as well. I love to hear peoples stories . You show the struggle and the reality. I'm a fan Sir! Thank you for the advice you give.

That's excellent. I've started to take in brand deals as well. My channel is growing but it is not sustainable for me to keep creating content for free as my time becomes more precious. I have had some success with some brands, hope I can share with you someday.
HOW DO YOU THINK I FELT nearly 7 years ago!!! I was one of the worst case scenarios! I still make less than $100 per month!!!!!!! But boy them sponsors and collabs came rolling in and now I make thousands! THIS VIDEO IS EXACTLY ON POINT IN MY SITUATION! Thanks for this my guy!
It depends on your country and niche. English speaking countries are the highest paying - USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Finance, Money, Health, Real Estate are some of the highest paying niches.
Oh really? Thanks for that. I just feel like everyone should value their time more. This is also the reason why I don’t really like big channels saying this is easy or just fix this and that and you’ll be fine. Asking people to do things that they themselves can’t replicate is an insult to people’s time and effort.
The reality of it is unfortunately everyone doesn’t reach their full potential in whatever they want to do. But that’s all on u if you want to be the best in what u do. I was doom scrolling and found this video. Regardless of how many videos u post or have tried just keep going man. Life is so short just make sure you’re having fun while doing this and try ur all
I agree with everything you’ve talked about. I enjoy making my detail videos and I also upload so people can use my videos as a helpful tool and I also really want to make how to’s which I know can help when it comes to what I do, thank you and keep growing!
@@KevinChee I think you might be associating intelligence with regards to making money off youtube. That can be viewed as being smart, but the intelligence I am referring to is in regards to knowledge and critical thinking (which are the most important types of intelligence in my opinion).
Love this perspective... It's so true that small channels can find real success by focusing on what they do best and using youtube as a tool for their business rather than just chasing subscribers. It’s refreshing to hear someone emphasize this, it’s definitely a smarter approach for anyone starting out. Thanks for sharing these insight
Internet can be really noisy and majority of them focus (and want you to focus) on subs and views. The ones who truly thrive are the ones who knows how to leverage UA-cam as a tool for their business.
This is solid advice! I have found that UA-cam demands your life but pays pennies for it. The R.O.I is horrible. I have now focused on what will gain me clients and share my creative process rather than make it an actual source of income. Thank you. :)
UA-cam is a great platform to gain new traffic and build authority if used correctly. We don't work for UA-cam so I don't expect to be paid equivalent to a job and I don't hold them accountable but at least we can control how we want to utilise our channel
First time you get in my recommendation and I must say being honest and real about topic is what win me over. I can't stand those how to grow ytc, get 1k subs with 1 video ect. I will subscribe and follow your journey from now on sir!
@@KevinChee Kevin, for me it was the title. Enjoyed your sense of realism and the need to be clear on your objectives and not just chase the numbers. Timely video to watch.
Thanks. I don't think I can take another round of 'this video will explode your channel' situation. I would prefer higher than average views per video launch. That's the best.
I feel the same. I made many channels over the years. My first uploaded video is 13 years old. It was shitty with Moviemaker, but the comments were nice, it had a lot of likes and views. Every channel I made it got harder and harder.... Starting early was the key to success on UA-cam and all other socials. You can do it for fun. Thats it.
@@KevinChee I DID! then the sponsors rolled in and BAM! monetized the shit outta the content.. Im one of the lucky ones! 100k Sub channels are jealous of my sponsors!
Thank you! For a moment there, I don't even know I have that turned on since it has been inactive for a while but I'll make sure you get some specials :)
It is very time consuming and hours of work may not get you but 1 or 2 subscribers!!! Small channels seem not valued so being pushed out is rare. You have to do this because you enjoy it not to get rich now. A few yrs ago everyone was in their home watching TV and You Tube so many people were subscribing and viewing!! But you have to look at it like the lottery, one day you might win! I appreciate your honesty.
I have no luck with lottery so I wouldn't see it that way. Everyone starts out by having fun but it is still important to have a goal in mind and not just doing this for subs and views.
thanks, Kevin! what you say really inspires me! I think as a new UA-camr i put more time into creating videos rather than thinking of providing value to my audience!
Good perspective and advice. I really appreciate your point on how one should identify his/her end-goal with YT and then direct one's energy producing contents.
Also 100k+ views on 227 subs is really nice. Today I've seen a channel with 30k+ subs with 166k views? wtf? :D I have more than that with 500+ subs. I'd say what counts is views or even actually watch hours.
I really appreciate everything you said its truly inspiring and makes me feel like I really am doing what I can with what I know knowledge wise. Growing my business through youtube has been years of a process but my subscribers are so true to me and support me they're all very genuine yeah I might not have thousands of subs but the ones I do got are they're for me💚✨
I get it Kevin…. Everyday I have to talk myself out of shutting down my channel …everyday is just another batch of disappointments. Hang in there buddy…
I am trying to move away from thinking like that. The main contributor seems to be those numbers (subs and views) that is visible everywhere. Doesn't help 1 bit!
I have felt like this and I have even quit UA-cam for several years. During those years when I wasn't posting videos, UA-cam continued to grow without me. Friends I had then who were UA-camrs are now owners of awesome and successful channels. Was the biggest mistake I've made. I think the best advice is just record that video and post it. It may get views, it might not but you won't ever know without trying. Can only be disappointed if you don't try, right?
I know I have said this before and never want to sound like a broken record but, it just happens to be true for me that out of all the UA-cam advice that's out there, and there's a ton of it, I find your advice to be the most interesting, genuine and useful. I imagine that won't change any time soon.
My sort of advice don't gain traction lol. Most people prefer videos that displays 'shortcuts' or 'hacks' or 'secret'. But I prefer to be blunt and truthful so I'll have to take in the slow growth.
I completely gave up on getting monetized!!! After I reached my 1000 Subs I rarely get excited anymore when I get new subs. I love my Subscribers but I noticed YT will only push out the bigger channels no matter how you change up or be creative and do all that suggested only to not get more views!!!!! So I decided to focus on putting out what I enjoy and pray others will see my work. It's nearly impossible for us small channels to gain 10Mill views really?!? It can only happen if YT push it out to more people!!! They push mine to do many then wham stop pushing after about 6 hours. Really I mean we never see growth until YT does what it wants with our videos!!!! Very frustrating. Going on 3 yrs now and I'm trying to stay motivated here. Thanks for your helpful videos.
@@YD-uq5fi Listen carefully to what Kevin says at 5:15, his words are golden! Even with 150k subs my channel failed! But I wish you all aspiring UA-camrs best of luck!
It is easy to assume 150K means success but many big channels out there are not sustainable due to insufficient revenue. Maintaining a channel takes time and effort, something I would say many take for granted. We all may have good intention when creating our videos to help people for free but I find free content can be detrimental to our channel. A minority of them appreciates the free content but a majority of those just want free content because it is free and can get all fired up when we try to sell something (which is essential to support ourselves). I guess my point in this video is, finding the audience who are supportive in every aspect (growth, finance, experience) is essential. You can build a community who just wants free stuff, and that's good to grow your channel, but it is not a sustainable business model. It is not easy to walk away from the effort you put in in the last 5.5 years and I respect you for that, for your courage and decision. All the best!
@@KevinChee I absolutely agree with everything you said! Thank you so much for replying to my comment! The decision to leave YT didn't come easy. But my channel failed as a business and it has drained me mentally and emotionally.
@@YD-uq5fi She has it as a primary income, and people started hate comments and telling not to buy her products. So views and sales crashed. Heartbreaking.

How much now
I was so focused on getting my channel more subscribers and views, that I forgot why I started this channel in the first place, thanks for reminding me!
Nice work!
That's precisely it!
If you're a reasonably attractive woman, you could literally stare at the screen and say nothing and still get subscribers/views.
Exactly. I'm still learning with my channel and have many bad videos, but I love gardening and sharing what I do with people. Making videos is truly fun for me and I can't wait to see my growth as a UA-camr in a few years.
Very true

Great advice. I’m in this for the long haul.
Never give up on what you like mates :-)
Great story, and I am happy to see you are satisfied. Being a UA-camr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of help from Fame -ster of course) will always pay off at the end.
🤔
I disagree totally
That's not a great strategy for a beginner. Because no one knows what anyone wants to see, you'll do that only to reap nothing in the end but frustration when things go side way. One should do what they find enjoyable and use that as a fuel to keep going, because then you won't worry about the numbers. Eventually, maybe the right people who enjoy the same thing might appear.
I just started my UA-cam and honestly I decided to start because it’s a form of escape ❤ makes me happy and I enjoy it. That’s it.
that's good. Why UA-cam and not IG or TikTok though?

Anything of true value must be developed and cultivated nothing comes easy just focus on publishing your content.
for sure
I agree with you. Achieving success on UA-cam is quite challenging. It often requires a bit of luck, especially when it comes to the algorithm promoting your videos
Yeah, I still think luck plays a big part but most big channels don't wanna admit it

I agree 100%. and you got one new subscriber
just like all of us, we have to remind ourselves constantly not to be affected by numbers. It is easier said than done considering views and subs are the first thing shown to us in YT analytics!
Consider this: Would you be happy to have 400 come to an auditorium to see you present your content? Probably. So why are you fixated on 40,000? Dial it back, enjoy what you have. Create for you.

@@JayKayz0r Thank you very much! I am very glad that you did!🙏
I don’t like when people talk about whether or not starting a channel is “worth it”.
Its good you think that way but majority of them don't think like you unfortunately.
Thanks ❤❤
It this I love it because something which made me happy and you happy and other are being happy to watch these videos.

Millions of people create channels but they often lack the personal Charisma or there is just something missing. Not all can succeed.
not everyone is born the same!
Kevin I already feel like UA-cam is my full time job. 😭. (I work 40+ hrs a week in a warehouse as well.) It's INSANE. Keep the great content coming.

Thank you, glad you like it.
I have startedy channel 3 months back. Not many subscribers or views but i am happy to get a platform to express myself 😁
That's fantastic
@@snapsna3567 That's wild to hear, I actually actively try to shorten the time because my thinking people's interest will drop
Yes it's interesting for sure. I've got 1 video posted as both long format and short. Complete different views.

I think its a good idea to start a UA-cam channel when you enjoy making the content your channel has to offer. I love animating cringe videos and if it takes off thats a plus. I see it more as an escape.
I agree with you. I decided to make my channel one that works well with my daily habits of taking a walk.
Well Said Kevin! I just started and I like the peace of mind at the moment and I am hopefully going to keep it this way!
all the best to you!
This is a great message and encouragement for small, and very small channels.
Thanks for this
That's awesome to hear
I enjoyed this talk so much. I started my channel in 2015 and it has changed my life. But could I have broken thru in 2024...I don't think so,...it's complicated!
Oh wow. Your channel is amazing. The views you get are fantastic and consistent. To me, you have broken through. Any advice for us?
nice! will soon start to focus on my channel seriously next year. now it's just fun. enjoy the process and have a wonderful year!
have fun
Well said brother. Just started my channel and I find this true. We all like to watch good videos. Try and create the best you can :)
Thanks. The journey gets tougher so embrace yourself and be prepared
I truly enjoy watching your videos, , you speak the truth, keep going.
Thank you, I will
A Big Thumbs up.
Be realistic and you'll find ways to grow the channel, not just doing it for fun
I Did it guys, my channel was created on October 15,2024
Oh yeah, good job with the shorts channel
Wow I didn't expect this. A video I wished I'd watched when I started my channels. Thanks for sharing, truly eye opening
You're still at your early UA-cam stage, good that this got pushed to you :)
I decided to build a channel about breaking misconceptions and sharing real, firsthand experiences to foster better understanding, for business as well!
sounds like a good idea!
Been making videos for 12 years, and I've yet to figure out the cheat code for growth & views.
I don't think there is a cheat code, just UA-cam gurus claiming they 'know' the secret :)
@@noflyzone485 never claimed I'm a UA-cam guru :)
This information is timely. I have made 545 subscribers and still growing. I should just calm down and grow my audience. Thank you Kevin.
UA-cam has its mood swings. Sometimes the algorithm just gets it right and recommends the video to the right audience, other times it just refuses to do so.
Im so happy for u, im also just recently started my yt again and i just love making videos, i love the process and also i can be more productive
Been on here since 2021. It's crazy how I've been picking up only recently due to the Shorts craze.

Good Summary, even though i watched the entire video. thank you!
Yup, will never sucseed. I got that. The dude whom make this video never going anywhere too, super suck.
I've noticed it seems like most people I watch has experienced slow growth recently. Been trying to figure out if its algorithm changes, time of year, or what.
Yeap, me too. Haven't been growing for the past month or so. Not sure what's going on, could be a drop in interest, could be summer holiday in US, could be anything.
@AceOf77 yeah the last couple months have seemed really weird on UA-cam I don't know what is going on.
I think it'll grow slower and slower forever because theres more and more people doing it
@@Big_Theft_Auto I'm not that pessimistic but right at this moment things seem to suck.
@@Swanzo I hope now that AI is so advanced, that they improve their algorithm again, and make it so the videos are shown to people who is more interested instead of random people who may not be. And i think they will probably do it because its good for them as a business

Thanks for this. Just started my channel. There are so many videos saying ‘turn this setting on’, ‘turn that off’ 99% of these are just click baits. I try daily to remind myself not to live by the analytics. Good luck to everyone
You are on the right track. Good luck.
Appreciate you sharing the truth for other creators. Everything you said is true. Thankfully our focus is sharing while we are personally growing. Thanks for the great video.
Well said!
Thank you so much 🙏 Finally an honest video about YT. I literally hate those "changed life" clickbaiters who live in some bubble of positivity. Don't start YT is the only true recommendation I would give to anyone. It's so random and mentally devastating that it's really not worth it.
The "changed life' topic is trending like crazy so everyone jumps on board. I tried jumping onboard too and I am not ashamed to admit that lol.. Having said that, I've been doing honest videos for years but YT just doesn't seem to like pushing contents like this. Ah well...
@@KevinChee Yeah, definitely. YT doesn't reward honesty, because people clicking on controversy, clickbaits and scammers.

Kevin- I have always enjoyed your videos as I have grown my channel the last few years. I am starting to look at what I could do from a business stand point with my channel in the future- Affiliates, brand deals, etc. My channel has been more of a hobby but its nice to make money to at least fund the hobby. Thanks for the great content! Keep it up!
That's excellent. I've started to take in brand deals as well. My channel is growing but it is not sustainable for me to keep creating content for free as my time becomes more precious. I have had some success with some brands, hope I can share with you someday.
No kidding it's feeling impossible to be seen. It can definitely feel disappointing. Thank you for the much needed pep talk.
Thanks. Sorry I ramble too much sometimes

It depends on your country and niche. English speaking countries are the highest paying - USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Finance, Money, Health, Real Estate are some of the highest paying niches.
That's the whole reason not to rely on just making money from views and UA-cam Ads. Diversify to gain control over the revenue I would say.
I think your the first person that's actually told the truth. It's been very sobering. But at least i know where i stand. Thanks 👍
Oh really? Thanks for that. I just feel like everyone should value their time more. This is also the reason why I don’t really like big channels saying this is easy or just fix this and that and you’ll be fine. Asking people to do things that they themselves can’t replicate is an insult to people’s time and effort.

This is a smart man speaking. Not a lot of youtubers speak with that type of honesty and intelligence. Hats off to you Kevin.
Honest yes.. not sure about intelligence lol
What made you click though? I'm curious. Was it the title, thumbnail or just my silly looking face?
@@KevinChee Kevin, for me it was the title. Enjoyed your sense of realism and the need to be clear on your objectives and not just chase the numbers. Timely video to watch.
I hope this video take you to a new level bro 🤙🏾
Thats it.

I enjoy what I am making in my small channel. So when I finish editings I upload videos with out waiting for viewers or sub!
that's fantastic!
Definitely trying to put my music out there on UA-cam, hopefully I can convert views to possible clients.
all the best!
thanks, Kevin! what you say really inspires me! I think as a new UA-camr i put more time into creating videos rather than thinking of providing value to my audience!
Understandable, I fell into that trap as well. But if you can work your way backwards then I'm sure you will be able to figure it out.
Good perspective and advice. I really appreciate your point on how one should identify his/her end-goal with YT and then direct one's energy producing contents.
Yeah, I think that's a better direction than blindly following others
You are so right! I only have 227 subs, but I still do some sales. I haven’t been much found, but those people who follow me, trust me.
227 and have some sales is crazy. I think you should keep it up.
@@KevinChee for sure I do! I make only about 100 € a month, but I am sure I can get bigger.

It's all about the revenue. It doesn't make sense for some to start a UA-cam channel when ur worried about bills for example.
@@KevinChee I think you have the right approach. Don't change a thing.

To everyone reading this, I wish you success in achieving your channel's goals and reaching new heights. 🌟📈🎉🚀
good job
Thank you.
Did you get most of your subs from Shorts? I see many Shorts creators with this problem you mention.
YT is pay to play
5.5 years, over 300 videos, 150K subs.... Today was my last day on YT... it's just not worth it...
Quitting at 150K subs? Many people would love to get to even that level.
