The nice thing about Shorts is that when UA-cam finally does find your audience, whether it takes a day or a year, they often go back and re-suggest your older posts to your new found audience. So Never Give up on a short! Even the ones that plateau at a couple thousand views could get millions one day once UA-cam finds the right audience for your account. I saw this happen to all of my first shorts.

no just keep at it... when you get a topic that hits it will be nothing... when i was focusing on Shorts earlier this year i was able to get 10million views in 1 month doing shorts. I dnt really focus as much on them anymore but if you do it could happen

It took me uploading daily for 2 and a half months sometimes uploading even more to get monetised . Most people would give up but now I am finally seeing some rewards in revenue !!
Shorts still work really great for me on my second channel. I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of famester, but that's a necessity nowadays). I just give all my videos small initial boost, and that caused them to spread literally everywhere, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

If UA-cam doesn’t want you to reup a vid perhaps they ought to show it to people. People spend time on videos. They deserve a chance.
I think something that needs to be genuinely addressed by youtube is how people can go from getting consistent views with every upload to LITERALLY 0 views not like their views declined or anything like some people here are stating, no the fact that you can go from getting thousands of views per video to youtube not showing your video to literally anyone its really hard to tell what you're doing wrong when you don't even have analytics to look at, it's really discouraging to new creators such as myself
It’s because UA-cam suddenly stops showing videos in suggestions and searches. This is how channels die, like mine. I'm tired of hearing BS like “you're not getting views = you need to improve your content” because that's simply not true. Viewers don't really decide what to watch, UA-cam does, manipulating the success of videos through statistics it misinterprets.
That's exactly the problem I'm facing right now.
@@LeoTheGoodBoi I just experienced this, but it has only been for the past 3 days. I was averaging 2.5k and all the sudden it dropped to 800, then 100, and then literally only 2 views on my last 2 shorts.
@@TK-db6tg oh man, it sucks. Same for me, I was averaging about 2K and during the past 2 days, the views are down to 2-10! I'll let you know if I figure out how to fix it.

The only thing I can think that could have caused it is the fact that I tried to make a little bit more of an effort on one of my posts; unfortunately effort is very often not rewarded and its the simple stuff that gets eaten up. Perhaps for some reason my extra effort threw off the algorithm.
What I have seen lately, is that youtube really pushes older shorts more than newer ones. Literally, it promotes already approved and great shorts rather than put new ones to the test.

I don't think a channel should be flagged as spam "and for good reason" for reuploading a video with one view only to see it immediately get hundreds of views. I think that is somebody finding a solution to an obvious problem with UA-cam's algorithm. And yes, I mean algorithm this time, not audience. Also, if only one person saw it before, how could that be spam? Who is getting spammed?
This isn't something I've done because I'm generally happy with my Shorts performance, and if they don't perform well, I always know it's because it just wasn't good enough. But it's not something I would be against at all if I actually cared a tremendous amount and was getting no views.
I have this problem with my main account. I don't think it's the audience, since there is no audience... is like, how is supposed the video is not of interest to people of the video is not being shown to them? I had videos with 1 or 2 views, and probably those were mine, and the video is stuck like that for days, so I rather deleted it and try again, thiking that maybe I picked the wrong time, but if I do that then according to what I saw in this video is spam??? So how I'm supposed to do it better? I did that formula in TikTok, same videos, deleted them and uploaded again in different hours, then I found the right time for me and I improved! Also it sucks that in YT you need to go to third websites to see in which time exactly you uploaded a video, while in TikTok is just there, along with the day and month, that is how I was able to see what time was best for me.

Once you stop believing in an imaginary algorithm and understand the problems originate from phone farms in Asia, it make a lot more sense.
This clears up a lot. I've only started doing shorts earlier this year. And I didn't really understand it. I saw that a lot of my shorts would get hundreds or a few thousands of views and then stop. But I considered that a success as a small channel. I had one short that blew up in popularity (relatively, for my channel) and is still get consistent views. Still, I get plenty of new subscibers from the shorts even if they suddenly drop off in views. A bunch of them unsub within a day or so, but it's still growing my channel nicely. I'll try timing them better and see if that works!
Why does it seem like every time UA-cam attempts to do something to help channels get discovered it has the opposite and negative effect? Maybe they should stop trying to fix what honestly wasn’t broken.
The shorts algorithm is all jacked up thou. I get shown the same video 4-6 times all the time. No other platform does that.
When UA-cam tests your shorts with a seed audience, the audience should be people who have watched similar videos. Surely, they have the data from viewers to set that up. If the initial seed audience for a short is simply a random selection of people then the likelihood of the short succeeding is obviously greatly reduced. UA-cam has tons of data on their viewers and content creators. It doesn't sound like it's being used in a beneficial way at all. So much for technology.

Shorts have been frustrating for big channels too. I put the same shorts on Instagram and UA-cam at the same time and the Instagram videos go viral fast whereas the UA-cam shorts take an entire month or more to gain momentum. Would love some advice to know what I’m doing wrong.
I think bc IG pushes your reels better. That’s what that platform basically is. Your audience is there and not on UA-cam shorts. I still believe UA-cam shorts are a channel killer and UA-cam doesn’t want to admit it. They keep pushing it and the payout is pennies. 115k views on one short and it made me almost 45 cents. It’s a joke.

Thank you for this. I literally just started putting out shorts last week and I’ve had a few that just took off, got over 1,000 views and them bam, flatline. I thought maybe I wasn’t doing something right or was hoping maybe the algorithm would maybe try putting it out there again later.
I’ve always referred to the view death spot as a "plateau" since that’s what it’s called in graphing. Initially, I thought this was normal. But then after a while I thought, "well what if I could stop the plateau from happening and get more views?" I noticed that I've started to get views if I post videos daily, but if I post more than one video in a day, the views for the second video are always close to 0, like it's suddenly Shadow banned, like UA-cam is punishing me for thinking I can go ahead and share my thoughts on more than one subject in any given day.
This is good insight. I am also small content creator with mainly some faceless content, and I started posting bunch of Shorts lately. The thing that worked best for me was giving my videos a initial dose of views and likes on fames ter. This caused them to spread everywhere literally, bringing more and more organic views day after day.

I’ve experienced this with long form videos, suddenly I only get views from search and nothing from browse although my content has remained the same and doesn’t target search at all, this also meant I get like 10% my normal views
I've got thousands of views daily only when my videos were suggested. Since January 2023, I have never received EVEN a single view from suggestions again. Not even one. On all my videos. My channel died.
But people here say it's not the algorithm. Very funny.
I got 200K views on shorts in 20 days and then bam 40 views per day, I was averaging 29k views per day from shorts. Idk what happened but UA-cam just doesn't send Shorts in feed now, this happened to a lot of other creators. I still haven't started making the content that I initially planned to make but I think UA-cam algo still needs improvement, I have shorts that were sent to literally 2 people and then it just stopped, 100% watch rate 145% retention but to no avail. I'm glad I still have ideas left but seriously this is very demotivating. Anyways, I'll still grind lol.

I had 2.5 million views on my main channel - not shorts and out of the sudden I woke up in the middle of the night as apparently I was only dreaming about millions of views. Just kidding 😂😂 I have few millions on each video.
Through my experience its odd though, recently had a video with high drop off but also good engagement compared to channel average. Suppose it just hit really will with seed audiences but underperformed with a brauder scope.
Would love if you went in depth as to how to find & make content that can please your niche audience as well as those who dont engage as often in a future video! Good stuff :)
I have the opposite problem. My shorts get millions of views and my long form content died because of that. I've stopped creating them at all.

Yeah, algorithm has changed. From getting 1000 views to down to few 100s is totally disappointing. UA-cam has gone harder when millions flocked to it when UA-cam announced monetization in 90 days..It's saturated now with more enough content

My gaming channel struggles with long form and short form for sure, the account is also an old one from 2007 and has changed its direction many times (bad for growth)
I didn't realise this was an actual thing I just thought my shorts died off really early in some situations, great advice!
Only thing I would take issue with is the advice to “do what works for others/what’s trending and popular. Personally I’m sick of hearing the same trending music over and over and over and over and over again on Instagram. It starts to become all the same.
I say, take the non-trend road and do YOU. In the end, it’s you and your uniqueness that people will stick around for, not trending music, templates, soundbites, etc.

So the question after this is once the seed audience interest tapers down and the views fall to zero, what does it take to get the views back up? Also, with shorts back catalog, how does UA-cam know which videos to test with newer audience and what triggers that?

after making 6k shorts i can tell you that its a random chance if a good video becomes evergreen but every few hundred or so i get an evergreen short. its honestly if it gets picked up and grouped with other videos in a rabbit hole, it seems, once a short is connected to other popular videos it becomes evergreen. i have one short that hasn't stopped after 16 months or so, and a few others too. its a game of lottery it seems :)

Hey, have you ever faced a period where UA-cam would just not send your shorts in feed anymore? My shorts were assured 2k views, like literally I could post a white screen and I'd get 2k views but my last 5-7 shorts just don't get feed views, daily views have gone from 29k to 50 views only, many people have encountered this issue, I have had this issue on other channels as well. Is this common or are we cursed here? For perspective I got 200k views in my first 20-25 days and I usually get a retention of 90-105%.

They are really not kidding about "don't re-upload" I noticed I made a major editing mistake and missed it some how after uploading. It was still private and waiting to be published so I deleted it and re-uploaded. It got into feeds 0 times and was seen 0 times in the 24hrs after it got published. They should make an exception for unpublished videos, especially if it's reuploaded with edits,(could tell by the length) because it's not an attempt to subvert the algorithm if the algo hasn't been allowed to touch it yet.
Experience has shown me that a short with zero views can be deleted sometimes and then re-uploaded and suddenly gets a few thousand views.
You are only allowed to be in the spotlight if you follow their narritive. If they can't control you they won't let you have a voice.
I find this really hard as a history channel, even if you mention mad Adolf in any form you can see the negative impact on the channel

Almost all of my shorts get a few hundred to thousands of views for the first hour. Then never again doesn’t matter how good my retention is, the like to dislike ratio, how many comments, or anything. I’ve had shorts with 200% retention and it still died at 1 hour

my shorts they do really well for 3 days, i had one short and i ended up with 5,5k views and then suddenly BOOM no views no more lol. it's like youtube is pushing you in the algorithm and sees how many people you attract. new videos always has amazing opportunities

I have found that my urge is to post as soon as I make a video. But scheduling videos on the hours analytics show my viewers are viewing works better. It takes discipline.

This is a great explanation. I just passed my one-year anniversary on UA-cam and have made almost 900 Shorts. Early on I did about as many per day as I could do. Now I'm doing two a day. I've seen the views die off on most of them as you describe. But every once and a while I get one that takes off. My most popular video received about 1 million views in the first 20 or so days. Then, BOOM, it really took off. I've studied the video and have tried to replicate it. Sometimes I come close but there is a uniqueness in it that grabs the viewer. My swipe away percentage is fairly low for it. For those just starting out, find something you like to do and do it often. It took me about 3 months to see much success. Then, 6 months in I had my Silver play button. UA-cam has been good to me but it has taken time and effort. Good luck to all!

Uploading then deleting a video then uploading again can cause a shadow ban? Many times after I upload I see the video and notice a need for an edit or audio adjustment so I delete it, fix it, then re-upload it. I hope that isn't causing problems?
Once I had a short horribly tank, I was kinda sad, but I didnt wanted to let that make me feel bad, so I went and made another one the next week to see if that could improve. After I finished that, I linked the previous short in the comments, now both have over 600K views when back then the first one barely passed 1000 views in the first week. I noticed Disney uploaded a video related to my new short, and that started driving trafic to it driving trafic to my next link, so dont give up in that short, try to see how you can drive attention to it!

That intro is so wrong. For many small channels the shorts dont get into the feed. I dont even get a seed audiance. Many different creators experience this at the start. Why is this?
Let me add one thing, sorry for my bad English. The posting time, in my case, is not that important. What happened to me is that when one or two shorts started working (posting something that also attracted and responded to audience searches) the other shorts, already pubblished in my channel, had started working too, as if UA-cam had identified me as a quality creator of shorts and perhaps because shorts have been offered to the same public. So it is important to find coherence between the shorts, in content, style and a duration that is not too long (30 sec)
Recently, in an attempt to enhance visibility, I used a VPN while uploa since making this change, I have noticed an enormous decrease in views on my videos. This is deeply troubling as it directly impact the reach and engagement of my content.

I respect and appreciate your knowledge. I have made 12 multi-million view shorts in the past year. Now explain this: I make a short, gets 90% view vs scroll away statistic and 140% audience retention and the "algarithim" shelves it after 2K views? What does it/they want from a short if not 90% watching and average watch % more than 100%?

This is honestly a perfect explanation of what's going on, I post a short (not on this channel), and it goes gangbusters usually overnight owing to different time zones. I might tweak the search key words to give it a bit of a boost, but inevitably, engagement tapers off within about an hour of that initial jump. Out of over 100 shorts, only 1 gives me consistent growth in terms of views, and even then, my channel is still susceptible to the "NO DATA" message. But it keeps me interested in producing content.

I don't have that information even though I have been posting for 2+ months and have well over 25K+ views? Is it a lag or anything it just says "not enough information or data".

Maybe a lot of shorts took a dive once people realized you can reupload a short if it didnt get views. So essentially there are twice as many shorts uploads that you get buried under.
Also ive noticed that YT will push so.e of my older vids and shorts if i dont upload as often, like its trying to keep me going. I think when you publish too often u make youtube win but you do not.
Maybe i would advise yall to not upload so often. Or randomly take a break and watch your older vids get pushed

My analytics are insane for shorts normally have around 90-110% watch time which I thought was pretty good so I never understood why it dropped
Wow, good to know! I was wondering how shorts work. I've always noticed a spike in views after around 6 hours, sometimes more, and then the views stop. It means the algorithm didn't find my target audience, but I'm okay with that :) I hope someday it will change. Keep grinding, my friends!

New youtuber here, posted a few shorts. I have had two shorts go to 2.5k views within 5 hour time frame then flatten out. Figured out that evening time to publish is best, most folks are home and in bed watching youtube I figure. I am excited to produce more and thanks for all the helpful tips!

I believe this channel is just regurgitating information that is freely available by UA-cam themselves, but with an added twist of misinformation. Everyone who is playing the UA-cam game is in a battle against the algorithm..... if the algorithm gives you exposure, you will get views and subs.....
Couldn't agree more. But people seem too naive here to understand it.
They don't really help anyone, they just say clichés and things that you could have figured out on your own. Everything else is pure misinformation about this platform. I believe that in a lot of videos they don't even know what they're talking about. They just want to exploit your disappointment to make money without telling you anything concrete

Man, you are still lucky to go from 2k to 100, i got nothing for the past 5 days (from 4-10k). Dont know why youtube just stop sending my vids to feed ("Shown in feed" metrics is less than 10 in my case now lol)

I've actually found a groove outside the times UA-cam has recommended for me to post. I'll try one of the two shorts I do daily to post during the time UA-cam Recommends and see what happens.
this exactly happened to me, i have been making plenty of shorts while trying to stick with algorithm, once that twitter drama happened i made a short then it suddenly crashed my channel ever since my channel has been growing only because of two video's and now it stopped again and i haven't gotten a single view in about 2 - 3 weeks
I had 4 straight months of 1-4K views and my channel grew steadily well (different channel) then all of a sudden, the same similar content, same schedule, and same ideas all just stopped getting views. I’m now averaging 30-50 views per video when that used to be my total after a few minutes. I truly don’t understand
Explain how I had a short that was 5 weeks old with 2100 views then yt pushed it for another 3k views.
This always happens to me with shorts but not with vids. For example, a short has been stuck on 11K for 3 months now. Thanks for explaining!
This happens no matter what for me. Less people swipe away and watch time is over 100%, so I think maybe this video will do better than normal, but that's not the case. Instead, it stops earlier than the other shorts.
I think the biggest problem of shorts is that until you have a main audience it's a hit or miss with them as they just send out shorts to completely random people.
If they do not like the first few seconds they are going to swipe away.
So they have to be appealing to as wide as an audience essentially if you are looking to grow(which is also a problem, as wide appeal is boring).
They are a great promotion tool though for finding some people that could be interested in your videos out of a random audience. Think of shorts as advert on tv.

Based on what a lot of other channels have tested:
Either you are a complete shorts channel, that only does shorts as a product or you use them as sneak peak advertising for your channel to get people to maybe one day watch your long form product.
What do I know tho, I am under 200 subscribers :'D
And in regards to publishing times... the shorts algorithm has this weird thing where that surge sometimes comes within the first 15-30 minutes after posting OR after 6 hours.... again : completely random which of the two it is.... I have quite sone shorts I posted at the time my target audience is online, only to see it get pushed six hours later... (seen it happen with long form as well btw, same six hours!). However, six hours later there's practically no-one from my target audience online bc it's in the middle of the night! This has quite a few times destroyed my clickrate (long form) or viewed-swiped ratio (shorts) and it seems there's nothing you can do...?

Ok I thought I was imagining what was happening with the views. I would have a short do very little or some skyrocket and then sputter out. I’ll have to look at the ones that did well and figure out why; then try to replicate it.
Great video ! Here's what I still don't understand, let me give you a case study :
-> Short did well in the beggining, like you explain in your video, reaching 400k views in about 10 days
-> Short currently stands at an overall 78% View Duration, flatline retention graph all the way through the end , 66.3% average view to swipe away ratio.
So essentially this is a short with a strong hook at over 100% retention for the first 10 seconds, with close to 70% View to Swipe ratio and yet it hasn"t seen any views for the past month (about 50 views/day).
That's what I don't understand. According to your points , this short would be a good candidate to throw a couple millions more views at it , until those retention and swipe away numbers go way down and UA-cam goes "Welp, guess I can't find any more new people to like this". Why is it stopping now with these great analytics ?
same, but didnt got more then 15,000 views, always getting flatline, it grows to like 5,000 views and then flatline, i cant understand anymore !
i had 84% swipe ratio on 10k views over 115 subs and 440 likes but it still died because im limited to 10k max on a short

I'll tell you how it works for me. I post three shorts daily with an average of 8 seconds for each. I have a travel channel. I have about 8 shorts that were picked up by the algorithms. And they also appear in searches from February until now. I attract around 280 monthly new subscribers from shorts.
YT really needs to improve their algorithm
i noticed it always the shorts i don’t put much effort into that sky rockets in views/subs. i did a reaction video last year and made a shorts the next day, didnt think much of it until my phone starting going off that same night my shorts was at 20k and its now at 27k over a year later
As a new content creator this was very helpful. I use my You Tube page to direct clients to give them an idea on how I install tiles and ideas. I do want to expand it to make a profit as well. I am enjoying it, it makes me want to do better. I want to teach people how to do home renovations of all ages. Thank you for taking the time to better understand.

I often find that if this happens and you can't bounce back and your primarily a shorts channel just start over with a new one I've done that 3 times
Question: What about when we IMMEDIATELY delete the video like within a few minutes, because we noticed there was some sort of error (example: text being partially out of frame)? I've had to deleted shorts immediately after uploading and then re-uploaded, but never because "it wasn't getting views". I just take the L in those cases. But I have deleted and re-uploaded a FIXED version of the short after noticing there was a problem after uploading

This must occur with long form videos as well and logically it makes sense. Any video, no matter what it is, will always be shared initially. It's worth it for youtube to take an initial risk on your video by pushing it. After all you could be a no name channel uploading something that millions of people would watch start to finish, so youtube will always initially share your video to see how it shakes out. However once it's clear your video sucks, then youtube stops sharing it and the only way you will get further views is if people manually seek the video out in search or otherwise. So the solution is to sweat and git good. If you aren't making youtube your full time job and pouring hundreds of hours into editors or if you aren't a super hot woman just give it up.
Please also explain why videos also stop getting views or why UA-cam suddenly stops recommending the video. I noticed that after two days the graph for the reach went flat
I've been using shorts with my Tiberian Sun Tips & Tricks videos. I see that burst of views the first couple of days then the subsequent plateau. However, my views then start to pick up slightly, apparently by more engaged viewers as my view and view time percentages increase.
Few Months ago UA-cam made a update and after that My Channel views getting down . Before that update I usually get 5 to 10 million shorts views a day but now it's tough to get 1 million views in a day .I think My targeted audience are not getting my videos properly 😔
Interesting, i've heard of this before too and i'm sorry to hear that. The sudden change of growth like that can be very hard to swallow. Many changes coming, hopefully it gets sorted.
Same thing happened with me also I was posting 2 shorts everyday and I was getting 60M views a month now I am posting 3 shorts everyday and I am only getting 20M views.

I'm more curious about when I was uploading 3 shorts a day, I would get maybe 5 impressions and 0 views. I was speaking about the same topic for several shorts, so I think it thought I was spamming.
My views come from shorts feed, but the videos never made it there.
