Just got this kit as my first attempt at learning some drums. One thing I noticed quickly is that the headphone output sucks. Super thin sound out of it, and was kinda worried that I'd made a mistake. However, using the audio out into an interface, and then into headphones lets you hear the kits sound like they are supposed to sound, so it def needs some extra power to get the full sound out of it. That plus creating your own kit from the best sounds in the brain make it sound miles better than it did when I first plugged it in.
I received my kit in January 2021. The headphone output sounded perfect. A few months later I set up for my daily practice and the low EQ was pretty much gone, same as yours. I too switched to the "audio OUT" and ran it through an old drum module's AUX IN, and it worked fine.

Some channels are just a good source of damned good information and this channel is one of them. @@laszlozoltan5021 Hah cheers dude! I'm practicing as much as possible while also working around my neighbours work hours since they work from home now. It's so obvious when samus plays how much practice he's had on the drums, I had an electric kit for a couple months and decided I needed the real thing about 4 months ago and I'm loving it! So I'm practicing as hard as I'm allowed to.. I'm just pissed I didn't start when I was younger!
@@BegetterVIIEVEN It was only about 6-7 months ago I got my first electric kit and started playing drums. Played that for about 3 month and decided I needed a real kit which was only a few months ago now. I'm 19 atm, I just wish I had picked up the drums instead of sax at 9! I played the sax for 5-6 years and got pretty darn good at it but my interest for bands and the music I was playing fell off so I quit. I then discovered metal from an awesome friend of mine who showed me all the songs he listened to and I was hooked! I gravitated towards drums while listening to this kind of music and thought It'd be waste to not even try and see if I could play drums, safe to say, I haven't looked back!
I've been watching your videos for about three years now and don't know why I'm just now subscribing as your vids are awesome! You sir have a new subscriber. That kit seems like a decent kit, although it could use a slightly bigger snare pad.
That's actually really cool- what a set for beginners. I might just have to grab this and learn. Love your channel- you're obviously a bad ass drummer.
Never use a cheap kits module sounds. Ez drummer will improve the sound of just about any E kit, but higher end modules, you know like ones that cost just as much as the kit, usually have legit samples similar to easy drummer. Plus any decent module is gonna have the capability to import your own sounds, so you can sample your own real kit if you have one. Ezdrummmer is easily (see what I did there!) The greatest thing to happen to ekits in a long time. Mesh pads are also the ONLY way to keep the experience even close to realistic. If you buy a cheap ekit then do yourself a huge favor and snag at least the EZDRUMMER basic. It has enough drums and profiles to git within any type of music. You can also test the basic kit out free for a week I use an Alesis Surge just to screw around when I'm trying out new patterns or I'm practicing my blasts (I'm sure thats neighborhood appreciated). I use EZDRUMMER with the METAL! add-on and it sounds tiiiiiighhtt. Oyuuurrrrrr
@@AaronXplosion1989 is is possible to record when you trigger the EZ drummer with your kit and using audacity as a DAW? I mean, can you record your playing using the EZ Drummer in standalone?
I bought this kit (minus one cymbal) from Amazon 3 years ago to be played in a small apartment. When I played it for the first time I was like, 'this is a real instrument.' It's a great low-priced started kit for someone exploring e-drums or who needs to play quietly indoors.
I seem to have bought the same kit, except mine is from Millenium, the house brand of Thomann. Nice to see it played on by someone who can actually play, as opposed to me still learning the basics. It does work as an incentive, so thanks for that. Oh, btw, I do have a double bass pedal hooked up and it kinda works on the single kick pad....separate kick pads were available for this kit so I bought one for my girlfriends kit
90% of how good something will sound comes from practice. The other 10% comes from the quality of the instrument. You make this kit sound great. So anyone looking to start just know that you will sound awful on even the most expensive kit out there. This is great to start
Can confirm. ;) .. I suck at drums now...was "good" back in my youth (80's and early/mid 90's). Then...well, life and shit. Fast forward to about 3 years ago when I picked up an Alesis Strike Pro (11 pc) so I could "get back into drumming" now that I'm living in an apartment and am a cool 51 years old. You know the old saying? "Use it or loose it"? Yeah...turns out it's not just a saying, it's a fact! LOL! .. So, bottom line, my $5500 (I think that's how much it cost me, maybe a bit more or less) e-drums sit there and get played every couple days, just for fun. I play songs I played in my youth...the easy stuff; mostly "Hair Band Metal" or "Metal" (for those days; AC/DC, Motley Crue, Motorhead, Ozzy, ...Poison, Cinderella, Def Lepard, etc). With my rather bad fibromylagia, I can usually only warm up for 5 minutes then play one or two songs. Then I'm done and need to recover for a day (fibro SUCKS!!! >:( ). .. But you know what? Just dickin' around with the drums for 10 minutes puts a big ass smile on my face Every. Single. Time. :D Even if it hurts! And "hurts" both physically, and emotionally knowing just how much a SUCK now! ;)
I mean most of the in-built presents sounded decent, but with some, especially the cymbals were very electronic and kinda cheap sounding. Although his playing was spot on perfect, the end result was cheap-sounding recording of a professional drummer. So I don't fully agree, as once again, at least in terms of sound quality it was lacking even with a pro drummer. However, after loading some presets from EZDrummer those problems went away and the sound quality/samples were very good and the audio was matched with the skill of the drummer. It's great that you can do that- in cheap electronic kits the sample quality and how 'real' vs 'cheap' or plasticky they sound it's a limiting factor and having an option to load some better samples it the most important thing from what' I've seen and heard from people.
If that were true the best musicians would play the cheapest crap instruments available. I don't see Steve Vai playing a $200 GRX Ibanez. Quality of instruments effects playability and sound. I would say closer to 50/50, and ot shrinks with how amazing you are.
@@burningempire666 I had thought about adjusting percentages and come to the conclusion that it’s too difficult to accurately quantify anyway. However the point still stands. I’d also like to compare another idea to the concept of how we tend judge people’s ability. Once we turn things into a competition, even the most minute of differences become super apparent. Take top Olympic runners for example. The difference between their race times are often ranging from 1-2%. Say they raced with an old pair of ordinary sneakers. That would be enough of a difference to go from gold to possibly no medal. Either way with almost any pair of running shoes they’d beat nearly anyone in the world. But to hang with the best of the best they need their top equipment. In music it’s even more necessary. But either way the most important part to hang with the top people would be practice. Thanks for your input though. It is clear that pro musicians should still buy pro level equipment
My dad actually got an electric kit, I don't remember when he got it. He always uses it for Rock Band since it works like the drum set that came with the game.
I bought the ded-100. Just arrived 2 days ago. It’s for my 8 yr old 😬. Very well made and good quality. Would definitely recommend the company. I can even adjust the sound output on each head/ symbol in settings. I can Hook up a iPad or phone and learn/jam along with vids. I Added a wireless headset and amp also. You don’t half to hit hard or bang on drum to get a good loud noise since it’s electronic.
So I just really started watching this channel about a month ago and part of what’s kept me coming back - aside from the phenomenal drumming, farts and sex lol - is that I was so fascinated and relieved to find another human that walks around the house saying wild shit and making up little songs to themselves all the time lmao. Nice to find more if your own out there sometimes 😂
I have a Roland TD15-KV kit that I got second-hand for $1000 4 years ago. The benefits that it has over this is each tom is dual zone (not just the snare), it uses a traditional hi-hat stand, the module is better and includes many more sounds, and one of the cymbals is 3 zone (includes the bell). That said, I'm not sure that those extra features are worth double the cost of this kit. This is something seriously worth considering if you're looking to get an electric kit.
My millenium mps-750 has thx same features for a similar price to this, including input volume trim pots for every pad and cymbal, but the rubber rims on it are garbage, I wasn’t able to get the toms high enough for me (they’re at the right height for me after changing my setup around) and I’ve found Roland to have better stock samples. I am quite tall and a fairly heavy hitter though, so that probably explains alot of my problems. The only other issue I had is that the kick pad keeps sliding away.
I have an electric kit like this and love it, it’s fun and I’ve had it for about a year and a half and the only thing that needs replaced is the bass pad
I can remember back in the late 90's / early 2000's when mesh heads were just becoming a thing and we were starting to make our own - the price of this thing is insane... I would have KILLED to have this back then.
I love my e-kit... though yes it is a cheap alesis kit, I have since frankensteined it with some nicer roland components. Cool thing about e-kits too, I managed to expand the number of triggers by wiring additional triggers to the rim shot sensors of certain pads, then configured the brain to make a cymbal sound on those triggers. I almost never intentionally use a rim shot while playing, so that trigger is bypassed and gave me extra cymbal sounds.
Thanks for reviewing this Samus! I have an Alesis Command-X with the mesh heads, which retails for about double this Donner kit in the US. It's my first drum kit and I bought it when I was living in an apartment so I needed something quiet-ish (my downstairs neighbors would probably disagree on the "quiet" part but w/e, I tried). From what I can see in the video, it looks like the Donner has similar features, if a bit stripped down. I could go on about the differences I'm seeing but it seems to be "you get what you pay for." If I upgrade, I would seriously look at a more expensive but more expandable Roland. There are some amazing drummers on Twitch and YT using really nice Roland kits and they don't seem hampered at all. Really I'm just tired of seeing "real" drummers shit talk electronic kits. I've played on acoustic kits, yes it feels different, no I don't feel like I'm "not a real drummer." Plus I can record to a DAW like Reaper in MIDI or OGG/WAV. I didn't have to spend $800 on mics and another $300+ on a decent 8-channel mixer to do that. With COVID my drum lessons have been through Melodics and it's pretty fun, even if I'm missing the personalized feedback and guidance of a teacher. For me, an electronic kit was a perfect starter and does exactly what I want it to. Yes there are things I'd like my kit to do that it doesn't, but for now and at that price point it's great.
So, I recently purchased this kit. I even picked up the PDP 400 double pedal. They work just fine and haven't killed the kick drum (I'm a heavy footer). Works great with Reaper and using the MT Power drumkit (although I haven't figured out how to change which input goes to which midi note). I wasn't able to use the discount code, but I did note that it was your video that got me to buy this kit.
What are your thoughts so far? I'm looking for a quiet kit to practice in an apartment without breaking the bank, but it needs to be durable. It's also going on carpet, not hard floor.
@@callsignjoker1 My wife can definitely hear me playing on the kit when she is in her office downstairs. Neighbors can’t though. I’m going to try to muffle the kick pedal vibrations a bit by putting the rubber exercise mat under the kit. I should note that my office is directly above hers.

I have 2 acoustic sets, and am going to sell them and go electric. I prefer acoustic drums but I'm 63 and have a bad left leg. I can still play strong, but I can't move my acoustic sets anymore. It hurts too much. They both weigh a ton. The electric sets are looking a LOT easier to move for practice and gigs...
@@DowJonesDave they would work great for you. The pads weight practically nothing. From what I've learned in all of this. If you can afford a good roland e kit go for it. The higher end models have better drum voices. My alesis was a tad over 700. It's awesome, I love it but there are only two voices I really play with. I got mine on my Sweetwater card. Maxed that puppy our for sure but I had a guitar and a bass on it as well lol
@@insertmetalusernamehere Well, one of my sets is a Pearl Masters Custom but it's old and kind of not perfect condition as far as the finish goes. Still, both sets have heavy duty Pearl hardware in good condition, so just selling some stands would get me the unit in the vid probably. Does it make thicker sounds like a hydraulic head makes?
As someone who purchased a 400ish dollar Simmons kit a few years ago, this thing sounds pretty damn good comparatively. Seems to register on fast rolls, something the Simmons kit struggled with mightily. It was so bad I went and bought a roland td-17 in the last year.
I actually have this exact kit for a year now with a double pedal and it works pretty good, the only thing is that the sensors on the pads can wear over time surprisegly fast.
Awesome vid! Just as a sidenote from experience with an all-mesh edrum kit, always use a plastic or rubber bass drum beater when using a bass drum trigger with a mesh head. Felt beaters add extra friction to the mesh head, which will cause the head to wear prematurely and can damage the trigger
I have the alesis crimson 2 and I agree stock sounds aren't the best but u can adjust the trigger, pitch, pan, reverb, and volume for each pad..helps alot..plus software like ezdrummer take em to a whole other lvl.
I used to play bass in a band where the drummer had an electronic drum kit. It was great because we did not have play that loud. I used a crate 1-10 practice amp. It was easier to hear everything that was going on because of the volume. The drummer used a double bass pedal.
I was an OCDP guy back when they were actual custom drums. I was hesitant to go electronic, but I’ve got a Roland TD-8 module, 6-piece set of mesh Rolands, dual-trigger cymbals, and a double Speed Cobra pedal. Have had them a few years and they are still soooo much fun. I still discover something new in the sound options all the time!
That TD-8 module should have some great midi songs to play along to. The TD-11 and 12 even let you edit those songs and build your own in a step sequencer, which is only found now on the TD-50's.

Some channels are just a good source of damned good information and this channel is one of them.

Holy shit, when you connected the kit to the EZDrummer everything sounded 1000x better and clear
You can also test the basic kit out free for a week
I use an Alesis Surge just to screw around when I'm trying out new patterns or I'm practicing my blasts (I'm sure thats neighborhood appreciated). I use EZDRUMMER with the METAL! add-on and it sounds tiiiiiighhtt. Oyuuurrrrrr

8:20 Fully expected Chris Pontius to burst out of no where and tear off his pants when you started playing this.
90% of how good something will sound comes from practice. The other 10% comes from the quality of the instrument. You make this kit sound great. So anyone looking to start just know that you will sound awful on even the most expensive kit out there. This is great to start
Can confirm.
;)
..
@@plumfun6750 god damn you’re so cool to me lol

I bought this exact kit a year ago for practice. Decent little kit, although the high hat pedal has a hard time triggering sometime. Worth the money.

I can remember back in the late 90's / early 2000's when mesh heads were just becoming a thing and we were starting to make our own - the price of this thing is insane... I would have KILLED to have this back then.
The angelic "ohhhh yurrr" was great xD caught me off guard!
1:28 his laugh just makes me incredibly happy and warm inside I don't know why XD
9:07 in bloom is my favorite nirvana song to play on the drums!
The sound is really good, and the setup looks great.

@@DowJonesDave they would work great for you. The pads weight practically nothing. From what I've learned in all of this. If you can afford a good roland e kit go for it. I'm not sure what your set up is like, but I've heard using plastic beaters instead of felt ones can help
@@ZebraStandards yeah I've had plastic kick beaters for a while now and it definitely prolonges the life of the heads

I used to play bass in a band where the drummer had an electronic drum kit. It was great because we did not have play that loud. I used a crate 1-10 practice amp. It was easier to hear everything that was going on because of the volume. The drummer used a double bass pedal.
