Billie Jean was released in 1982 and Another one bites the dust in 1980. By the way was Michael Jackson (who loved Freddie) that told Queen to release this song as a single, would be a success. Who inspired who ?
His vocal performance in The Show Must On is priceless to me. Especially considering the physical condition he was in at the time of recording. One of a kind ❤🔥
Fun Fact : despite what is shown in the video, Brian’s only contribution in the studio recording of “Another One Bites the Dust” is the weird sound effects, made on his Red Special guitar. The actual guitar parts were played by John Deacon, as well as the iconic bass line !
MJ was a huge Queen fan and he persuaded them to release this as a single in the USA. He took many ideas from Queen including the single glove with jewels which Freddie did first.

If you are going to see Live Aid 1985, keep in mind that this day, doctors seriously warned Freddie not to perform, because he had a bad infection in his throat. But of course he didn't pay attention to them...and then he made history
Maggie, u needed to see the LIVE, no autotune etc, and I saw them on August 26th, 1980 in Toronto Canada! The best concert I ever attended! Freddie had the greatest Stage Presence, and QUEEN as a whole were all extremely talented! See their Live Aid Perfornmance from 1985, considered the BEST GROUP performance of the 100's of performers during Live Aid
I was in Phili for Live Aid and can attest the Queen set was the absolute, positively the best 25 minutes of that long hot day. And over 90 000 people in and around the stadium at Phili cannot be wrong.
You were lucky to be born at that time, when Freddie was still in good condition. I was born 17 years after Freddie’s death, in 2008. But my biggest dream is to listen to him live. But when the group was still whole, there was another problem I would have had to face- we were a part of the commie states. And as much as I know, Queen didn’t go to commie countries to perform.
True, Queen like other Bands were not allowed in. The Boys were all 30 to 32 in Age in 1980, and were so darn good, they played Live and sounded like their Albums, no Autotune

Always been a huge Queen fan, with The show must go on being the one that touches me the most. Was released about a month prior to his press release confirming he had aids after two weeks of media speculation, and only six before his death. Was amazing he recorded such a great vocal for it so sick and a shame he never would preform it. Song you liked on release and then found it so sad but affirming just weeks later.
*Michael Jackson* was a Queen fan and friends with the band. When Queen toured the US he visited their concerts and was hanging out backstage. There MJ heard a yet unreleased tape from this song and told Queen they should release it as a single, it would be definitely a #1 hit -> Queen took his advice and he was right: it went to #1!
Thanks! This and most of Queen’s legendary tracks were before Michael Jackson. Was MJ listening to Queen a lot? The face is of drummer Roger Taylor. Up there behind the drums no one could see his face. So Freddie had the big sign made. LOVED watching your reaction and listening to your improvised singing.
Indeed, MJ was rather obsessed with Freddie in the late 70s and the influence is significant upon MJs stage presence adjustments made during that time. This in no way diminishes Michael’s presence, but we saw at the time often static interspersed with amazing dance grow to playing specifically for the larger audience of arenas and stadiums whereas the J5 in those venues were still staged primarily for the camera. After seeing Freddie work the crowd Michael transitioned his traditional presence with exaggerated moves visible to the “nosebleed” seats and took things to the next level during “Off the Wall” & “Thriller” shows that cemented the King of Pop stage presence that became defining and legendary.
Maggie, more Queen reactions please! "Show must go on" Great lyrics, great vocals. Recorded on 1990, when Freddie was very ill, (so there was not live version)
If you have not reacted to Under Pressure (Queen & David Bowie), I highly recommend that you do. Freddie hits some incredible notes. Plus it's an all time classic song.
Our middle school sports teams are the Blazing Bullets, so when they would come out to a basketball game, they would play this and stress the lyrics "out of the doorway the bullets rip..."
There are two different "dust" phrases which I think you are mixing up. Someone dying and falling face first on the ground/dirt/dust, would "bite the dust." Someone following another car or horse in a race (thus in the loosing position) is typically in a cloud of dust thrown up from the lead driver/rider, and would "eat dust." Though loosing, not necessarily dying.
If there was any inter-group inspiration being harvested between Michael Jackson and Queen with regard to "Another One Bites the Dust", it would have been Jackson being inspired, since "Billie Jean" wasn't released until January of 1983, while "The Game", which was the album with "Another One Bites the Dust" was released at the end of June, 1980.
Well, Thriller was out sometime in 82, but still. Queen had this song done and out before Billie Jean as even likely recorded. All great musicians inspire those around them, which, in turn, can create more great music. I never would have thought of Chic, but I can't unhear it now lol
