Maybe Queen's crazy little thing called love from their album the game
Voiceplays daddy sang bass cover.
Sorry.maggie i do my Exponation in German .
Philip Quast "Stars"
Caruso by Tommie Christiaan.
He also did this song together with Tania Kroes a dutch opera singer
One interesting fact, is that Monseratt was from Barcelona. She had so much emotion in the song, because she was singing about her home town. There will never be another duet like this. Simply perfection!
Thank you for your lovely comment! Hope to see you on my live stream tomorrow night where I will be singing songs to bring you joy ua-cam.com/video/rarzh0YWEDM/v-deo.html! 😊💖
They are in heaven together singing.
This is one of Freddie's true masterpieces, used in the Barcelona Olympic games.
I just knew it would blow your mind!
Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé found out that they were huge fans of each other, and this song cemented a friendship between them that lasted until Freddie's untimely death.
There were a host of entries invited for the official song for the games, but once this was entered, any others were competing for 2nd place, and this became the official theme song for the games that year - and rightfully so. All the parts were written by Freddie, instrumental and vocal.
This is the period in time (88) when he'd already been diagnosed, but the world didn't know he was dying. He was starting to look very gaunt, and the press were already asking a lot of questions about his health.
In any case, this is one of the rare moments in those last few years of his life where he was still sounding good. He wasn't going to make it to the 92 Olympics, and I think he kinda knew it. So he went all in on this, and made some history here. It wasn't long after this that he all but disappeared from the public spotlight.
😭😭😭😭
@@Mr.Ekshin Bringing the spotlight on Barcelona in 1992 was so great. I was there in beautiful Barcelona during the Games. I saw the Montjuic fountain programmed to this song. Quite the spectacle. I witnessed "our" Dutch Ellen van Langen win the Olympic 800m, and met her later that night. It all so very inspiring and the song brings me back to those special days.
I recommends you to react to the songs both had beeing singuing in " La nit" from Barcelona celebration. Specialy "How can I go on" and "The Golden Boy™
They represent the voice of the friendship. Only the pure and generous hearted people can have true friends.
When I watch this I cry as 68 year old man it reduces me to tears because it reminds me so much of what we lost with Freddie’s passing so young.
Like Karen Carpenter Freddie a true genius had so much more joy to give us as this collaboration truly shows us apart from Queen which will never be replicated.
I remember the room going silent when the news broke upon his death
But the star that burns twice as bright burns half as long
It is nice to see an opera singer react to this duet. Freddie Mercury was an exceptional composer, he created all of the music, that he sang with Montserrat, he sang all of her parts in falsetto, to work out exactly how it should sound. You should listen to Ensueno - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe from the Barcelona album. That is the one song where Freddie Mercury takes a more operatic approach. I would love to see an opera singer's opinion on that song. The whole Barcelona album is amazing.
I agree with you. I just purchased it and play it continuously. ❤️
Please, let's give Mike Moran the credit he deserves here...Freddie asked his friend Mike to help him write all the duets on the Barcelona album. Tim Rice also collaborated on two songs. Thanks
And what a poor ''substitute'' we heard later at the opening ceremony SHAME SHAME!!!!!
I agree with you it's nice to hear from someone who is a proper opera singer and can obviously lend their perspective to the song because this helps give an idea of just how magnificent and incredible Freddie's ability truely was.
Yes, he's done wonderful stuff both with Queen and some solo tracks but obviously this is something that is completely different and it's one thing to be passionate and enjoy opera music but it's a different thing to get up on stage and perform it alongside someone who is already quite well established in the genre but Freddie did so and not only that he did it so well that he doesn't really look out of place.
I think that without a doubt Freddie deserves his legendary status but above all he had such unbelievable courage and determination.
RIP Freddie Mercury.
RIP Monserrat Caballe.
The most beautiful duet I have ever heard. I love them both.
Love this song, love him, love her, it's just amazing. I listened to it when it came out and have not stopped. Makes me cry that he was taken too soon. So much talent.
Isn't it just perfection? And see how much Ms Caballe enjoyed this. Wonderful.
One of the best collaborations I’ve heard in these two completely different genres of music! These two are legendary and they truly made history not just for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 but for the rest of the history of earth! Definitely should watch more opera/pop/rock collaborations id love to see your reactions!❤️😁
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😀💖 Hope you to see you on my singing LIVE stream tomorrow here: ua-cam.com/video/fqV8x8S4VDQ/v-deo.html
Freddie is not only the one who could sing something, above all he is the genius who could write something like that.
Check out these two with "The Golden Boy" & "How can I go on". Montsy just adored singing with Freddie.
Yes! they so loved each other and singing together - these are also my favorites -- I really love how in "how can I go on" Montsy just can't help herself lip-synching while Fred is singing...
beautiful emotional golden voice 👏👏
My musical history begun at my 8 years old, first song 'Another one bites the dust', Queen, just imagine... Freddie, we miss you so much!! 🎶🎶🎤🎤🎸🎸
😎
Another one gone too soon. Loved Freddie and Queen.
I always get chills listening to this. Every single time!
Here's a little backstory to this song.
- 1987, Freddie was at home since after finding out that he had AIDS, he stopped touring with Queen and he didn't know what to do with himself. Out of the blue he exclaimed "God, I wish I could have gone to see (Legendary opera singer) Luciano Pavarotti!" And his long term boyfriend Jim went "What's keeping you, take a plane to Italy and go watch him!"
- And so Freddie began to attend opera performances left and right. But it was when he saw Montserrat Caballé live that he stood up and exclaimed "That's the best voice I ever heard!" He made a few calls to her management and met her. The two got on like a house on fire.
- But when the subject of recording an album together came to be, Freddie found out how closed minded the Opera world is, NONE of the symphony orchestras he approached wanted to work with him since he was a lowly pop singer. So, Freddie went "Well, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!" and recorded almost all of the music himself using synthesizers and samplers..
- Montserrat for her part said that she enjoyed the recording process, Freddie and Jim were perfect English gentlemen and treated her like royalty. But her fellow Opera singers weren't so accepting. Singer Ingrid Bergman condemned Montserrat for having done the album and snidely remarked after hearing about Freddie's death that he "Must have screamed himself to death."
- Fast forward to the 2012, Queen's "We will rock you" musical was doing really well and the musical arranger of the show, Stuart Morley, went "Now let's record that album with a PROPER orchestration." and basically re-recorded the entire album using the London Symphony Orchestra, much like how Freddie had intended it to be.
No matter how many times I see hear this it always gives me full body chills. It was great to see someone else enjoy it as deeply.
When Freddie first heard her voice sing when he saw her perform in concert, he was jumping up and down on the balcony like an excited kid.
I heard and saw it for a hundred times… but it keeps bringing tears to my eyes. Love your professional comments 🥰🍀
Freddie Mercury was such a special talent and most definitely one of a kind.
It's so fitting that this song was used as the theme to the 1992 Olympic Games in the city.
It serves as very fitting tribute to such a wonderful and lovely man. A real musical genius.
Tribute also to Monserrat Caballe who has also passed away now, but even her daughter still speaks of how warmly her mother enjoyed working with Freddie and his friendship was something that she treasured.
This music is not for us, humans. This music is for Angels
Freddie wrote this for her, his favorite opera singer. She asked him to write a song about Barcelona. What a genius. What beautiful voices. Perfection to the ears. You can tell they adored each other. Try Freddie Mercury -Exercises in Free Love. Sensational.
WOW!!!!!!! I always loved Freddie, but this duet blows the roof off! This is now one of my favourite songs of his. 🥰🥰
This is my favourite. I'm with you all the way. It makes me weep everytime. The beauty!!!
“THIS IS PERFECT” …. Brilliantly declared 😍
I LOVED YOUR REACTION 🍃🌸🍃🍃
👏👏 THE GOLDEN BOY (My favorite)
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😀💖 Hope you to see you on my singing LIVE stream tomorrow here: ua-cam.com/video/fqV8x8S4VDQ/v-deo.html
It’s really great watching someone else’s pure joy.
Missing. Never forgotten.
Freddie Mercury 1946 - 1991.
Montserrat Caballé 1933 - 2018
Stunning
It really is! 😊
As I think you mentioned, Freddy loved opera and listened to it most of the time.
Teacher, it's really exciting. It's impossible not to cry.
Aaaahhh!! 😃🙆♀️ I've been a fan of Freddie Mercury since kindergarten, he's my favourite artist. And your reaction will premiere on my birthday 😊👍
YAY! Happy early Birthday! Thank you for your lovely comment. 😊 Hope to see you on my singing LIVE stream today? ua-cam.com/video/fdme7TZDU3c/v-deo.html

I swear I'm not crying,, there's something in my eyes,,,
What a final note by Montserrat Caballé !!!
I remember seeing it when it first appears on TV, during the Olympics in Barcelona : I'm so old ! But clearly enough, this duet isn't old at all
Same here!
Same here
Im 54 love music...and this is the BEST song I have ever heard...love, love, love...
Montserrat Caballé y Freddie Mercury , Grandes !!!!
Dios los tenga en su gloria 🙏🙌
I have loved this song since it came out and always gives me chills. What I loved about your reaction is that you made me listen to what the background singers were doing for the first time. Added an additional layer to my enjoyment
Happy Holidays and thank you for your comment! 🎅🎄🎁 Glad you enjoyed my reaction video! There is still time to become my Patron for 2021 and beyond, if you are interested: www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee Thank you for your support! 💖
I had 19 years when I heard them together and loved it since that day, even if I couldn´t understand what they were singing back then, their voices are mesmerizing. Hugs from Sonora, México.
I love this duet so much - though it breaks me a little when he sings 'God Willing we will meet again - some day' - hope that they are enjoying a duet together again
Sweet love me some Freddie Mercury
Thank you. See you tomorrow! 😊
Simply put, this is why Freddie was one of the greatest voices, ever.
She totally gets it. Good on you. "perefct collaboration." "They sound great together." Thank you for your explication on this.
Apparently she refused to ever sing this with anyone else. She did with a couple other songs from the album, but not this one.
Freddie wrote the whole Barcelona album for her. He absolutely loved Montserrat and she had total respect and love for Freddie. When she was in England Freddie made sure Montserrat wanted for nothing. She was the one who Freddie told first that he was dying. It broke her when Freddie died and she sang at his funeral
Thank you for appreciating this
High camp, done with great love and panache. I think they spent a lot of time together understanding each other's craft. Montserrat was famously picky about what she would and would not do, and with whom. Those ascents to floated pianissimo high notes are the calling cards of her operatic voice, and they are fully honoured in Freddie's composition. He knew how good she was. They are unlikely couple, but there was real affection there. It's hilarious and touching all at once to see this high-priestess of bel canto (and an incomparable Norma in her day) wigging-out and swapping out the 'Casta' to be a 'Rock Diva', and doing a few Freddie hand gestures that even in opera would be considered over-the-top. Lovely frock too - and another thing she could be picky about too 😲
Thank you for your comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
Yes! No matter how often I hear/see this, tears flow down my cheeks. Thanks for your reaction.
the thing that made this so great is the huge amount of mutual respect they gave and showed eachother... you should check live version infront of the huge crowd.
This is just a master class. I have goosebumps
This is one of the great duet collaborations between two equally talented vocalists delivering a knockout powerhouse performance.
Brilliant stuff indeed.
🎫This is the only ticket stub it will let me use. Beautiful song by Freddie and Montserrat! Absolutely love the two of them together. She's amazing. And I loved the parts where Freddie brought out his True Freddie Mercury style while they were singing. Beautiful!
This was written by Freddie and Monstserrat for the Barcelona Olympics opening ceremony accompanied by massive illuminated dancing waters at the foot of Juic where the olympic stadium stood proudly on top
Catch any of her interviews about him, years after his death...the love will touch you. Asked if she would ever do another cross over duet she said it would be difficult because with Freddie, it was so special. He shared with her about his illness - as he did not believe he could depend on his strength to carry this live...and for him to say that you know it must have been crushing.
This collaboration shows when human beings, poles apart in their journies through life, get together, and produce the most beautiful
I don't normally listen to opera but it is Freddie Mercury. I get goosebumps everytime I hear this
I like opera songs, but not entire operas all at once. It's like my auditory sense gets saturated and I start having trouble focusing on the notes. It just starts turning into a wall of sound for me. The same goes for most club music. After a while the 120 beats per minute is all I hear with a blur of noise behind it.
I was just going to write this, but you already did. I heard it many years ago and got goosebumps. I sometimes return to it and STILL get the goosebumps. No question, both incredible singers - but when Freddie goes "all out", that´s just insane.
I've read in a comment that in an interview Montserrat gave, she said it was the happiest she'd ever been after she met Freddie, and she was there for him till the end....
Epic! Montserrat Caballé was simply the coolest. She had the courage to collaborate with a rock vocalist, but she knew he was gifted. A legendary collaboration.
I've watched many of your reactions, especially the metal ones. :)
But with this one, you got me.
I had tears of joy watching this and seeing how much impact Freddie still have.
Thank you so much for heading up with and also thanks to the sponsoring one.
Really dig this.
All the best from Germany.
Chris
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the Alice in Chains reaction I just posted?
Loved this song and performance!! Truly remarkable. Still waiting for you to get back to Voctave. So many songs to hear!! You Will Be Found is awsome!
Stay tuned! 😊
Freddie really and truly loved her
Freddie Mercury...a truly generational talent.
This was Freddie Mercury's great desire to sing with his diva, I recommend you listen to the whole album because it's fantastic. Also I believe that at minute 7:23 of your video Freddie Mercury has surpassed his diva in power.
NO😂😂😂😂
You should listen to Exercises in Free Love (by Freddie). The story I heard is he wrote it with Monsterrat in mind because he was a big fan of hers and he mentioned this in an interview, and that's what led to the two of them teaming up. She wrote words to it and it became Ensueno on the Barcelona album.
Also, this song was used as the big theme for the Olympics when they were in Barcelona. :)
There was an interview done by the BBC in Montserrat's home several years after Freddie had passed away and the interviewer asked Montserrat what the biggest difference was between singing with Freddie and singing normal opera songs. She immediately replied "freedom" and then went on to explain that as an opera singer she had very little freedom with how she sang. The conductor was responsible not only for the orchestra but also for how she sang the song and to be a successful opera singer you had to follow how and what the conductor wanted. Freddie on the other hand left a lot of how she sang her parts up to her. Of course there are the parts in harmony and that requires they blend together which they did beautifully but there were other parts (especially in the song "The Golden Boy") where Freddie was singing the main vocal and she did not have an obvious vocal part. She asked Freddie what she should be doing at those parts and he told her to ad-lib. That was something very foreign to her and it took her awhile to get comfortable doing so but she said it was the most wonderful freeing feeling she ever had while singing. You can see the joy on her face in the video of "The Golden Boy". She is having the time of her life in that video and the respect and love the two of them had developed for one another really comes through in that video. Since you have already reacted to this version of "Barcelona" on your channel, you might also want to privately watch the live version of "Barcelona performed at La Nit in 1988. They had a much larger choir and orchestra in that version and that version is live (you can hear the audience, fountains and fireworks in the background). Just search La Nit in UA-cam's search box and the first video in the results should be the remastered version. Don't miss out on reacting to "The Golden Boy" which is a wonderful song but is worth the reaction just because of how much fun Montserrat is having.
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😀💖 Hope you to see you on my singing LIVE stream tomorrow here: ua-cam.com/video/fqV8x8S4VDQ/v-deo.html
Pure talent, different styles, perfect blending!! Beautiful... 👏👏👏👏 Loved all of your facial expressions!!! Lol 🎫🎫🎫🎟🎟🎟
Freddie Mercury was indeed a musical genius.
Especially when you describe the fine intricacies required in a great duet, Maggie.
It just goes to show how well he wrote it and that he really knew exactly what he was doing.
Such a sweet guy, who is sorely missed.
RIP Freddie Mercury x
I have almost wore out the Barcelona album, it is truly beautiful ! He wrote some outstanding music for her, they had a wonderful relationship and were very good friends. There are several interviews and articles about their first meeting and the making of their music together. Beautiful and talented people !!! This makes me cry everytime I watch this, we lost him just a year or two later. She had some lovely things to say about Freddie, whom we lost too early.
always love the maggie shocked look
The emotion they bring to this is very real!
Freddie is and was the greatest ever
Oh my goodness I have shivers :-)
I swear I hear an angel when Montserrat sings
This was recorded live :-) you can get the album or the whole video from the performance :-) and it’s like my thousandth time watching this and it still brings tears to my eyes! It’s so beautiful
It just amazing that you as a pro Singer every heard this song. Cannot belive it :)
Bless Freddie, he loved Monserrat. They wrote these songs together or should i say he wrote them for her voice with her help. The song opened the Barcelona Olympics. Its heavenly.
I admittedly thought it would be the official video as I didn't know this existed.
Nice review.
As soon as I saw you review this I thought you would enjoy it.
this should be in a museum
The best vocal pairing ever. I dont blame you for getting emotional. It happens to me every time i hear this.
Freddie wrote this about meeting monserrat for the first time in Barcelona!! So special!!
This could be the best of all performances of anyone of anytime?
The entire tape is worth listening to the rest of the songs
Of all your reactions i dont think youve ever looked so shocked and impressed with what youve just experienced
I am sooo upset that I can only give you 1 like!!!! You deserve a million for this awesome reaction. Freddy was one of my favorites growing up (yes, I'm ancient). I would love to hear you Opera out with someone like Peter Hollens. His voice is so reminiscent of Freddy's.
Freddie is here litterally fanboying..impressed by her pressence, nervous for the singing, deeply respecting, overwhelmed... not afraid to sing for thousands of people, but Montserrat... he adored her, and they became close friends
Don't worry about the goosebumps, still having since the first time I heard this masterpiece.
Freddie Mercury had been approached by the International Olympic Committee to write a song for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Monserrat Caballe's hometown is Barcelona, and she was actually an idol of Freddie's
In the movie Bohemian Rhapsody it's touched on that Freddie's a fan of Opera. Which of course he was and that is well demonstrated here.
It is perfection!
It's the best reaction to this duet I've ever seen! You watch and feel by all your heart it's so so beautiful and it's precious because an opera singer knows music well I suggest you to watch the golden boy too stay safe
I love Queen, and Freddie, but THIS brings me to tears every time I hear it and to see you reacting to one of my all time favorite songs is amazing! ❤ 😍 💖 You must watch her performance at the Barcelona Olympics!
Freddie wrote the song. It was his dream to sing with her. He was already ill so it was a dream for him.
Wow the joy in your face!
Well fortunately they did a whole album together. Check out the golden boy and guide me home.
Great reaction, this is the first time I heard this as well. Magical, full body goose bumps. Chris
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
Maggie, as always depends on what is going on. I am disabled so I am available. But life does get in the way sometimes. If I see it I will join in. Thanks for asking. :)
😊
He loved her so much she was one of the few he told he was dying of AIDS
Broken Maggie is right up there with Extra Maggie and False Start Maggie as my favorites. Always love your reactions and über happy to see this one as I did not see this in the live. Awesome! A perfect cross genre blend that just made sense. Loved this song in 1988. Loved it again in 1992. You’ve helped me rediscover it and love it again in 2021. ❤️
Thank you! See you soon! 😊💖
Thankyou so much for reacting and bringing your love of opera and expertise to this piece. The first time I heard this in 1992 was for the opening of the Barcelona Olympics. I just sat listened opened mouthed and had goosebumps. Honestly left me shaking a little. I never knew music could do that before. I loved Queen and Freddie before this but after I was also started listening to Opera and especially anything with Montserrat Caballe. I'm 55 now and this music will stay with me to the end. Love and peace to you from the UK.
Two beautiful, precious humans, giving the performance of a lifetime. Perfection.
Huge Queen fan but this one is just beautiful. Love your passion, it just flows through your videos
Thank you for your lovely comment! 😀💖 Hope you can join my singing LIVE stream tomorrow here: ua-cam.com/video/fqV8x8S4VDQ/v-deo.html
Amazing live performance
It is epic ! I always was a queen fan. This was just crazy… never expected so good !
Let this be followed by "The Golden Boy" from the Barcelona album - i promise you won't be disappointed!
