Apparently in New York clubs where they played this they all thought Queen were Afro American New Yorkers not some English dudes and the chap from Zanzibar Freddie.... Queen are one of those bands that go from R&B, Operatic, concert hall to pop to whatever with ease........ Song remind me of cocaine scene and gun violence and playing space invaders ! So many of the greatest groups do a few great songs in different genres since The Beatles really.. They were lucky enough to grow up with TV, no National Service, concert hall, all the Blues records at Liverpool docks and Elvis and Chuck Berry , Little Richard, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Holly and all. Queen had this and The Beatles and opera and hard rock ...... Great song...... I was kind of shocked with Spotify in 2022.... Queen and Pink Floyd were two of the top played acts!! Which is why I use 10” subs for the additional “punch” to bass drum sound. Punchy bass is the higher end of bass octaves, roughly 40-88hertz. All the frequencies below 40 are “boomy” sounds of bass. Frequency is so imperative to accurate bass reproduction. You can actually design your stereo to optimally play a certain band’s unique sound. I designed mine for the hardest band to reproduce accurately, Tool💯. They have more polyrhythms than any band and it is laughable how far they own prog metal🔥
Michael Jackson was good friends with Queen and was in and around the studio when Another One Bites The Dust was recorded. Not that MJJ ripped Queen off, but he knew exactly the direction he wanted to take with the Thriller album after hearing this song. The influence is clear, something Michael didn't deny.
@@NeolithGrey "I listened to a lot of soul music when I was in school, and I've always been interested in that sort of music. The song got picked up off our album and some of the black radio stations in the US started playing it, which we've never had before. Michael Jackson actually suggested we release it as a single. Queen did not write this song because Michael told them they needed a dance club hit, as you say.
It's a John Deacon song, and all the instruments and sounds are played by the four of them, Dr Brian May on Guitar which he made himself, has different ways of making certain sounds, and John Deacon built an Amp which helps both himself and Brian with the sounds
John Deacon played all of the instruments except the recorded drum loop. John played bass, guitar, keyboards and handclaps. Brian added enhanced guitar noises. Brian and Roger hated this song and didn't want to play on it. Freddie, John and Mack liked it.

If you ever get to the point that a Queen song does not sound different from the Queen music that you have already heard, you have probably listened to almost all of their music (OK slight exaggeration there, but only slight). Having said that, this song was so different from anything Queen had done before, that the band argued over whether it should even be on the album, but a certain Queen fan on hearing it, told the band it should be released as a single, because it would be a hit. That fan was Michael Jackson and in the US, the single was #1 in the 'Billboard Hot 100' and 'Cash Box' charts and #2 in Billboard's Disco and Soul charts, and in the top 10 of all but 4 of the worlds popular music charts, and to date is the best selling Queen single.

The sound effects were likely made by Brian May's 'red special' guitar that he and his father made from wood found around the house. The guitar neck was made from a fireplace mantel. The reason the guitar could make so many sounds is that John Deacon, the bass player has a top electronics degree and rebuilt Brian's amp with scavenged parts. Brian returned to University to study physics and is an astrophysicist. Roger Taylor, the drummer, has a degree in biology. Freddie had a degree in graphic arts with an emphasis in fashion. Since you mentioned Metallica you should react to Queen’s Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974. Metallica covered this song years later and was awarded a Grammy for it. Enjoyed your reaction.
This track is often used in conjunction with battle scenarios, as the colloquial term ‘biting the dust’ refers to a person dying, on top of the overall hard sound of the song. However, it seems that this tune is actually just as much, if not more about a tumultuous romance than it is physical violence or death. The track begins with the scenario of a guy walking down the street, on his way to a gunfight. This section was actually inspired by real-life, historical gangsters. In fact the term ‘bite to dust’ is said to have been specifically linked to the infamous Chicago mobsters during the Prohibition period of American history. However, in the second verse, the subject of the song switches to that of a romantic relationship. Here we find Queen frontman Freddie Mercury stating that his partner has deserted him and in the process left him with nothing. And he sarcastically asks this person if they have actually found contentment in doing so. So in this section of the song, the singer seems to use ‘biting the dust’ as a reference to yet another lover. The content of the final verse can be applied to the situation presented in the first verse or that of the second. In this section, the band is basically exclaiming that no matter what opposition comes their way, they are prepared for it. They are going to stand strong throughout the whole confrontation! And another one, and another gone, another one bites the dust! Ohhhhhh yeah!!!! Is this the original? For real??? Yeah, this is the original. Queen are original, every time. I'm sure you've heard these many times in some many movies, commercials, whatever. Queen are universal, they absolutely are. Best band. Period. John Deacon, who plays the bass, wrote this n1 song.
This song is used for CPR on someone having a heart attack, it has the correct speed for heart contractions on the chest, ironic the other song with the same cadence is Stayin alive by the Bee Gees
The bassist and writer of this song, John Deacon, got inspired by Bernard Edwards' bass line on "Good Times". The thumping sound is the drums, but they're muffled and on a loop to produce that sound. The "guitar solo" is synths, which is the first time Queen used them on an album.
The instrument was not really the bass drum, just one part, mostly it was the bass guitar. Rarely is the bass guitar allowed to the front of a song. Most of the time it remains in the background like the glue that holds the song together, not so noted in its presence, but surely noted in its absence.
Great reaction as always. Liked. Random Tidbit: When you play the "another one bites the dust" part backwards, it says "It's fun to smoke marijuana". It's the alarm on my radio show for the 4:20 block of music.
From 1980 (their EIGHTH album by then!). Their bassist, John Deacon, wrote the tune. It was HUGE on the radio, and deservedly so. I credit my brother (RIP) for turning me on to Queen long, long ago, in a decade far, far away.

This monster hit was written by John Deacon (bassist) & it was a pet project of John & Freddie. MJ loved it “that’s it, that’s the gravy”. Then encouraged Queen to release it as a single said it would be a big hit. #1 in U.S. & U.K. FYI - MJ was a fan of Queen & would go to their concerts when Queen was in L.A. Thank you for your reaction!!
Sorry but when did you all get this nonsense that Michael visited Queen in the studio during recording AOBTD. They recorded it in Munich, Germany, Europe and at that time Michael probably wasn"t doing any trips to Europe. Michael was attending their concerts and then he advised them to release it as single. But the truth is that John Deacon wrote this famous bassline during a visit in New York in one of the studios where band Chic recorded song Good Times which inspired John to pen this song
@@debramoore7513 I know you're very enthusiastic( correct me if i'm wrong) about Queen and want to inform every one around about them which is fine but please check your information before you write.
That bass line...iconic. You probably know at least 20 songs from Queen and you don´t know that they are from them. No other band made so many worldwide hits, and like you said, the songs are so diferent from each other, they have such wide range in their sound. Great reaction!!
In the late 70’s, several huge rock bands did songs that are really disco (my favorite) at heart; this is one of them!❤️❤️❤️ Other examples are Rod Stewart “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” and The Rolling Stones “Miss You” (Mick Jagger was spending A LOT of time at Studio 54 at the time). Bronx/Brooklyn girl here; would Love it if you reacted to these songs and some deep disco, too! 🙏🙏🙏
The 1929 slaying was the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre - Al Capone's gang machine-gunned their rivals in Chicago. I never knew this song was referencing that tho. Nice reaction :)
Michael Jackson told Queen that this song would be a number one song before it was released and he was right. One of the most recognizable classic rock songs of all time.
Queen has a huge worldwide fan base. They remind me of The Doors in that they both have such a variety of sounds. Pure rock, blues, funky, groovy, and slow. Hope to see future reactions on these 2 legendary bands.
It was, until he ruined it by smoking and other drugs and not looking after it. He also had nodules which he refused to have removed. He was ALWAYS amazing, but he lost so much of his earlier range after the 70's. His voice and range on Queen and Queen II though are indeed phenomenal!
@@jamesbyersmusic his voice is phenomenal on pretty much all of their albums , and i'd argue it peaks near the end of his life on the miracle and innuendo
Queen is the big part of the soundtrack of people's lives - older people I guess. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have Queen's music in their life . . as part of their own soundtrack ~ so I am very happy you have discovered them.
Facts about “Another One Bites the Dust” This song was written by John Deacon. The bass line was inspired by the classic 1979 “Good Times” by the R&B band Chic. That is why it has such a familiar funk beat to it.
This is a classic EPIC song! One of the best simple bass lines of all time! ♥ Gotta check out their songs: Keep Yourself Alive, Under Pressure, We Will Rock You, Fat Bottom Girls, Killer Queen & Bicycle Race
A great thing about Queen is that so many of their songs don't sound like their other songs. They could do so many styles. Unbelievably versatile and talented. I'd say relationships, not drugs or gang violence. John got the idea from old westerns.
Brad, I love your intro to these reactions....u get straight away with it. And Lex, so quirky, inqusitive, and energetic. U guys rock the reactions!!!!! Love the style. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!!!!
They always had a hard rock edge no matter what they did. Especially live. So yeah. They experimented a lot wich brought them mass appeal but overall yeah, they are a rock and roll band.
React to "Queen: Who Wants To Live Forever". I know you both like to guess what the songs about as you hear it, but for this one song If you research what it's about ahead of time, I know It'll have a bigger impact.
The flamboyant Freddie Mercury got all of the press but I think the most interesting member of Queen is Dr. Brian May, CBE, the lead guitarist. Dr. May holds a PhD in astrophysics, is a member of several premier scientific organizations, has coauthored at least two books on astrophysics, has worked with NASA, and has an asteroid named after him. In addition to his obvious guitar skills, he is an accomplished pianist and singer and he also plays the synthesizer. Privately, he is an animal rights activist. A diverse and fascinating man!
Queen was never just one music genre, and if you here it from Queen it's usually the origin. All four members wrote number one hits, that made them so creative and diverse.
Since Lex mentioned wanting to see a concert of Queen, Metallica and Guns N' Roses, I think the only time they were all together at the same venue was unfortunately for the Freddy Mercury Tribute concert. Metallica and GN'R both played there, and the remaining members of Queen also did songs with James from Metallica and Axl/Slash from GN'R among others. Would definitely check that out!

Yes, John started out writing this song based on the Valentines Day Massacre.
That 'beat' is the kick drum and bass guitar hitting at the same point. And it's awesome
My uncle wanted this played at his wedding so bad 😂😂 my aunt relented and they left the building to it
It was played at my friend's wedding as they walked in. Phenomenonal.
Fun fact: when this song debuted in the U.S. it made number 1 on the R&B billboard’s top 100
This song is used for CPR on someone having a heart attack, it has the correct speed for heart contractions on the chest,
ironic the other song with the same cadence is Stayin alive by the Bee Gees
The best b line and drum groove ever......full stop!
I credit my brother (RIP) for turning me on to Queen long, long ago, in a decade far, far away.
consisted of Deacon playing almost all instruments: bass guitar, piano, electric guitar, and handclaps. Roger Taylor added a drum loop and Brian May contributed noises with his guitar and an Eventide Harmonizer.
written by john for their 1980 album the game
no 1 US did well on most of the us charts
john had the basic, freddie really liked it so helped him with it and supported him to get it on the album
despite freddie supporting it and michael jackson! saying it should b e a single the other two who didnt like it were still reluctant
brian said radios started playing it a lot so they felt forced to release it!
its their best selling us single!
its their third most downloaded song, reached 1b in may i think
Absolutely love your reactions. See how the whole band works together & check out the Making of One Vision & then the song.
@@eroy66 Thank you I was misinformed!

@@debramoore7513 I know you're very enthusiastic( correct me if i'm wrong) about Queen and want to inform every one around about them which is fine but please check your information before you write.
@@eroy66 I read the story online but you’re right …. I should’ve fact-checked. TY
Freddie Had That Energy That Set Him Apart He Was Someone i Could Watch For Hours on Stage. Such Cool Times. 😊
Thank goodness you have atleast heard this one, queen is the greatest rock group ever
Weird way of spelling The Beatles
Nah Lynyrd Skynyrd is the greatest rock group
Weird way of spelling Nickelback
Pink Floyd! 🥇
As long as we’re disagreeing 😂🤣😂
Weird way of spelling GnR
Queen does all genres, every song is different. Do White Queen live at Hammersmith.
The entire Queen II album is boss. They were truly musical geniuses.
Queen is one of the greatest of all time rock bands. American music in the 60's 70's moved a lot of bodies. Across all cultures. Around the world.
Fun fact: when you manually played the vinyl record backwards you can hear Freddie saying over and over, "Smoke Marijuana."
Ugh I love this band so much.
Dragon Attack is another great track from Queen...
Dragon Attack is my favorite Queen song
Their best song! And most people don’t even know it.
Absolutely. The lyrics are made more interesting by the backstory - but heck EVERYONE is at the top of their game in this song so WATCH WATCH WATCH.
this has been sampled to hell and back and it still is iconic. the bass riff but obviously also freddie.
Freddie Mercury's vocal range is phenomenal!!
That’s an understatement. The guy was a phenomenal talent beyond the rest.
I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't have Queen's music in their life . . as part of their own soundtrack ~ so I am very happy you have discovered them.
super deep thought. deresves 1M likes. And I'm not a regular UA-camr, a singer myself
I feel so old, lol. The original song in its entirety
No one struts like Freddie. He definantely had the moves.
Queen is Timeless...🔺🔺🔺
#QUEEN🐐
Facts about “Another One Bites the Dust” This song was written by John Deacon. The bass line was inspired by the classic 1979 “Good Times” by the R&B band Chic. That is why it has such a familiar funk beat to it.
This is a classic EPIC song! One of the best simple bass lines of all time! ♥
Gotta check out their songs: Keep Yourself Alive, Under Pressure, We Will Rock You, Fat Bottom Girls, Killer Queen & Bicycle Race
bohemian rhapsody???
I saw Queen 3 times in concert, Styx and Bob Seger twice :)
Simple. No two Queen songs are the same. Queen does so many genres of music.
That bit in the middle with just the drums was called the Disco Break -- that was where all the dancers worked their hardest and showed off!
A great thing about Queen is that so many of their songs don't sound like their other songs. They could do so many styles. Unbelievably versatile and talented. I'd say relationships, not drugs or gang violence. John got the idea from old westerns.
Actually, he got the idea from the Valentines Day Massacre.
Brad, I love your intro to these reactions....u get straight away with it. And Lex, so quirky, inqusitive, and energetic. U guys rock the reactions!!!!! Love the style. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING!!!!
That thump is the bass and kickdrum in unison
Watching yall bang out in unison with that song!😃😃
What I love about Queen is how you can't pigeonhole them. Are they hard rock? Funk? Operatic? Glam? Syntho? They're eclectic
They always had a hard rock edge no matter what they did. Especially live. So yeah. They experimented a lot wich brought them mass appeal but overall yeah, they are a rock and roll band.
@@adriantrusca1245 Not so much in the 80s -- I Want To Break Free, Who Wants To Live Forever ... but I get your point
This was a major hit for Queen on R & B radio stations
Epic bass line!
QUEEN IS SO VERSATILE. ITS LIKE EVERY SONG IS DIFFERENT . AND THAT SOUND IS THE BASS LEX
Next you must hear "Hammer to Fall" and "I Want It All"
Queen was never just one music genre, and if you here it from Queen it's usually the origin.
All four members wrote number one hits, that made them so creative and diverse.
its about failed relationships chewing people up and spitting them out like bullets
Yes Ding ding ding
Since Lex mentioned wanting to see a concert of Queen, Metallica and Guns N' Roses, I think the only time they were all together at the same venue was unfortunately for the Freddy Mercury Tribute concert. Metallica and GN'R both played there, and the remaining members of Queen also did songs with James from Metallica and Axl/Slash from GN'R among others. Would definitely check that out!
