- Jeep Wrangler YJ Windshield Wiper Upgrade - Riptech
I hated the look of the factory YJ wipers being in the middle of the windshield so I installed an awesome kit from Riptech - looks just like a TJ now ! www.riptech.net

Finding your videos right when I'm about to do a YJ frame windshield and wipe upgrade kit in a few days is a blessing.
That is awesome!
Thanks for making the video. Honestly thinking about picking one up now for mine.
Your welcome Nick - yeah it does make a huge difference on visibility and the way the windshield looks. Havent had any issues with the kit for 9 months :)
Awesome. I finally finished painting my windshield frame and just received my glass, gaskets, clip, primer, and adhesive and was about to order new wipers/arms until I saw this video. Ended up ordering the same kit, so glad I saw this, thanks for posting.
Cool let me know how it turns out ! David
Really glad I found your Videos, they've been assisting me quite a bit. Thanks David.
Thanks Patrick 😁
Just got my first wrangler and thought the wipers in the way was kinda weird. Thanks gr8 vid! So doing this!
Awesome you are welcome ! hope you find some useful vids ;)
this is awesome i have a 95 yj and it was in rough shape when i got it
essentially the guy i bought it from treated the jeep as a 4 wheeler and everything was on the cheap but this appears to be the channel to have all my jeep anwsers
+1 sub
That conversion is really nice. This Jeep is turning out to be a great one.
Thanks Bro!
Thanks so much for your videos.
Welcome ! Glad you enjoy them :)
I've driven Jeeps for 30yrs now and I really never took notice to the wiper placement until this video. Now, I'm wondering why nobody has every thought of this upgrade YEARS ago!? I just visited RipTech website and see they make this upgrade for CJ's too. Looks like I know what I'm purchasing for the CJ5! Thanks again for a great video.
So far tonight I've ordered an upgrade wiper kit and halogen conversion headlights. Your videos are costing me $$$. :)
+Chris Aiken So sorry Chris but both upgrades are super cool LOL
Keep the videos coming! Good stuff.
Thanks Chris !!!
So that aftermarket linkage that goes on the motor basically allows for the wipers to go further down and maybe the wiper arms are a bit shorter too.
I guess they designed it that way because it cleans the windshield better (further towards the driver side view area). The kit moves the wipers out of view but takes some of the wiping area away. I simply modified my wiper arms but i also took away from the cleaning area on the driver side. Always a trade off.
Dill Wiggle I know I wasn’t the only who saw that...thanks
A worm hole opened up at 7:22. :)I just ordered these, hoping they are as good as they look!
+ditttohead LOL I am really glad I put the kit on :)
this is greatest vid ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks
Thanks for the videos. My new aftermarket frame has same extra metal inside near wiper motor. It's rubbing bad, i tried squeezing down with c clamp but still rubbing... what did you end up doing to get it out the way. Thank you sir for any advice
I have a jeep wrangler 94. Mechanic and me don't know how to fix wipe blades, it's not working. The motor is good but something happened when I took it to car wash.
Where did you get the motor linkage bushings? Do they need to be pressed in?
Thank you for the information. My 91 yj has been driving all over without wipers. My problem, when I replaced my windshield frame, I removed the activating arms. The bushings were in bad shape. One fell appart when being removed. I have gone thru several bushings. They are crap. I just bout 2 from Doirman . But I need the ones on the wiper arm. Do these come with new bushings. Or do you use the old ones? HELP!
Will it work on your original wiendshield frame
So what did the thingy on the motor do?
I hear mixed reviews about this kit. Would you buy this kit again or deal with the stock wipers?
Thanks
your wrangler , be as peculiar as u like. BUT interior plastic cover how did you remove ?
Does anyone have 1991 Jeep YJ windshield wipers that fold out away from your windshield and stay, so you can wash your windshield with holding the wipers out?
My YJ linkage won't stay together anymore. They stopped making the bushings. I know my 1991 doesn't have a tubular linkage bar inside it - all three linkage arms are stamped flat stock. Did you do something to yours to change the linkage aside from this kit?
I think I bought some bushings from Morris 4x4
you didn't explain exactly how the arms come off or go back on. I can't get the arms off of my YJ.
So in order to ger to that wiper motor u drop the windshield frame or u still have to take the dash off
It is easier to take the dash off I believe but you could do it by leaning the windshield frame forward
Thanks great vid by the way
what was wrong with the old windshield frame that you replaced it? it didn't look too bad in the video
At some point the Jeep had been rolled and one of the top corners on the frame was a bit mangled and bent up. The windshield was cracked - so rather than fool with that I thought it was easier to just install new glass in a new frame.
ok that' makes sense, keep up the good work the jeep is looking sweet
I did not know that enginer Johny was responsible 4 the frame specs though
How do you feel about a yj as a daily driver? 2.5l is easier for me to find. or should I save up for a tj?
+Jon Torres wow that's a tough question. A YJ with a 2.5 vs a TJ W/ 2.5 as far reliability is similar. A TJ does have a smoother ride due to the suspension. The interior of the TJ is more "modern" . I like both but if you can swing the money I would get a TJ - if not a YJ is still a wrangler 😀
You didn't answer Jerry about why you didn't use the old frame.
well give me a minute .... :)
Have you had a chance to use them in the rain? I am guessing the visibility on passenger side is just as good as the original. I have mine and will be installing soon, But no rain in sight for us here in Central Texas.Guess they will be dust wipers...:)
yeah there very little difference between the performance of the old vs new.... LOL dust wipers ....
I am having some trouble getting the motor and the actuating arm out of my old frame. Do you have a video detailing how to do this? I can't seem to find one anywhere.
How long did this actually take. I noticed you started in the day and ended up at night haha
+Michael C probably 2 to 3 hrs total
it's binding so bad that's it's scratching the inside of my frame top and bottom. this is a sad sad day for me......
+Patrick Huttner So sorry Patrick - double check the replacement arm..
thats unusual .. sorry bout your problems - I did have to reposition the wiper arms a few times
+Redneck Garage well good thing was I called the guy up and unfortunately I wasn't able to get it to work. the guy helped me out on the phone for like 45 mins. but I'm just gunna return it. he said he'd be able to give me a full refund
Hey Dave I've been following your videos for sometime. I just had a question. I ordered these wipers from riptech a few days ago. I haven't received them yet....how long did it take for these to come in the mail for you?
a week or so I think - thanks for watching !!!
so I got the package in the mail. And Dave I'll tell you what haha those sons of ******* are a pain in the butt. they are binding up my linkage and the whole motor is bucking.
I called the guy and he was helpful. unfortunately there is nothing else he can do besides send me a smaller arm for the motor.
in this video the " new " frame was it an OEM part or did you buy it new?
the frame was a replacement from China - mine was fine after I got the arm on the motor adjusted
I think I'll pass on this upgrade. Never bothered me in my yj. No one ever notices it until I point it out anyway. I like all the quirks that make my jeep unique.
I personally love having them display on the windshield. It’s one of those weird yj quirks I love it.
No new video in two days? It must be raining at your house again.
Hey King - no working on another video tonight on the flairs. A bunch of little things and havent stitched it together for a vid :)
Alright. Keep up the good work.
That kit is $100.oo now,,, I'll just lengthen my drive arm and save the $100.oo
That won'r work
sacrilege 😑
